三、阅读理解
20. Tony Blair, former Prime Minister of Britain, would not have felt excited over Oxford’s intention to offer him an honorary doctor’s degree had he known it were later to be taken back.
The story should begin from a girl called Catherine Lisa Bell.
Catherine Lisa Bell was a girl from a remote mountain area. She was the first graduate in that area to reach Oxford’s entry scor e, but her application was refused in the interview, because the professors thought she lacked creative potential.
The government of the girl’s hometown paid a special visit to Minister of Education and asked him to speak for her to Oxford. The Minister called at Oxford and hoped they would give the girl special admission. Quite unexpectedly, however, his pleading was
refused. The Minister turned to the deputy prime minister, but he got turned down as well. The deputy prime minister couldn’t help but turn to Prime Minister Blair. Blair telephoned to Oxford himself to show his personal attention to the matter. He tried his best to persuade the university officials to change their decision, only to be greeted with a declaration from Oxford: “We admit that Prime Minster’s proposal comes out of concern for the students from less developed areas, but it is unacceptable. There is but one reason: On matters of enrolment (招生), no one has the right to change the interview conclusion the professors draw. This is hundr eds of years of tradition of Oxford.” Ks5u
Feeling a loss of face, Blair complained in private that Oxford was too stiff (古板) and needed reforming. Famous people have no privacy (隐私). The complaint soon found its way to the teachers and students of Oxford and aroused great anger among them. Immediately the university cancelled the plan to give Blair an honorary doctorate and delivered a strong protest against government intervention (干涉) on university affairs.

Can’t step away from the BlackBerry? Leaving a
work voicemail at 10 p.m.? You might be a workaholic(工作狂)
No surprises there.
But new research suggests that may not be a bad thing.
A paper out of the Rouen Business School in France says workaholism defined by work involvement, feelings of being compelled (强迫) to work and work enjoyment can actually be constructive (建设性的).
As long as the compulsion to work is self-driven, it can lead to personal feelings of accomplishment (I finished that project' I solved that accounting problem!) and benefit the organization (That project is finished ahead of schedule!) according to Yehuda Baruch, the management professor behind the study.
To be sure, many view workaholism as an addiction that requires treatment, just like alcoholism and drug addiction, as the workaholic moves away from the work-life balance accepted by most of society.
But many workaholics still feel balance in their lives, they just have a different work-to-life rate than most.
In some ways, workaholism is like chocoholism(功克力瘾).Baruch explains: Eating some chocolate on a regular basis can have health benefits and provides energy and satisfaction. It's the same with work for a workaholic. They are energized by their work and feel good when succeeding at a task.Unless a chocoholic or workaholic is damaging their physical or mental health, Baruch says they should just be left to eat or work in peace.
However, workaholism is often confused with being over-worked.It's not just about the hours worked, says Baruch. The need for overtime pay, or a cruel boss, might force you to work long days. And if you express too much enthusiasm about your work, a boss could take advantage of your willingness to work and eventually make you feel over-worked.That's when positive stress turns into distress, he says.
68.According to the passage, workaholism can be constructive if the worker______. A.is forced lo work B.finishes the project in time
C.is treated for the addiction D.feels balance in his life 69.Baruch holds the view that _____.
A.eating much chocolate can hare health benefits
B.workaholism is quite different from chocoholism
C.a workaholic fan become more energetic after success
D.a chocoholic or workaholic should be left to eat or work heartily 70.According to Baruch, which of the following is TRUE?
A.Workaholism can he defined working hours.
B.The workaholic just can't find work-life balance in their lives. C.The need for overtime pay might lead to overwork.
D.A workaholic has a cruel boss in his office.
71.What's the author's attitude towards the workaholism?
A.Opposed. B.Favourable.
C.Inactive. D.Doubtful.
