Unit 5 Into the Wild
Materials:
Pictures of various landscapes and wildlife
Writing paper and pencils
Procedure:
Introduction:
Start the lesson by asking the students about their experiences with nature and wildlife. Have a class discussion about their favorite outdoor activities and what they enjoy about spending time in nature. Show the students some pictures of landscapes and wildlife and ask them to describe what they see using descriptive language.
Reading and Discussion:
Have the students read the textbook. After they finish reading, ask them to discuss the following questions with a partner:
What is the article about?
What did you learn from the article?
Descriptive Writing Practice:
Ask the students to choose one of the pictures of landscapes or wildlife that you showed them earlier. Have them write a paragraph describing the picture using descriptive language. Encourage them to use sensory language to paint a vivid picture for the reader. Remind them to include details about colors, textures, smells, and sounds.
Peer Editing:
Have the students swap papers with a partner and edit each other's writing. Ask them to look for any errors in grammar, punctuation, or spelling. Encourage them to give feedback on the descriptive language used in their partner's writing.
Conclusion:
Wrap up the lesson by having a few students share their writing with the class. Ask them to read their paragraphs aloud and have the class give feedback on what they liked about the writing and how it could be improved.
Homework:
For homework, ask the students to write a longer descriptive paragraph about a landscape or wildlife that they have experienced in person.。
