Proper records are jus t not kept. We know that more than 850.000 children go through hospital each year, and that every child of school age has a legal right to continue to receive education while in hospital. We also know there is only one hospital teacher to every 1,000 children in hospital. Little wonder the latest survey concludes that the extent and type of hospital teaching available differ a great deal across the country. It is found that half the hospitals in England which admit children have no teacher. A further quarter has only a part-time teacher. The special children’s hospitals in major cities do best; general hospitals in the country and holiday areas are worst off. From this survey, one can estimate that fewer than one in five children have some contact with ahospital teacher—and that contact may be as little as two hours a day. Most children interviewed were surprised to find a teacher in hospital at all. They had not been prepared for it by parents ortheir own school. If there was a teacher they were much more likelyto read books and do math or number work; without a teacher they would only play games. Reasons for hospital teaching range from preventing a child falling behind and maintaining the habit of school to keeping a child occupied, and the latter is often all the teacher can do. The position and influence of many teachers was summed up when parents referred to them as “the library lady” or just “the helper”. Children tend to rely on concerned scho ol friends to keepin touch with school work. Several parents spoke of requests for work being ignored or refused by the school. Once back at school children rarely get extra teaching, and are told to catch up as best they can. Many short-stay child-patients catch up quickly. But schools do very little to ease the anxiety about falling behind expressed by many of the children interviewed.(本题10.0分)1.(单选题)At the beginning of the passage the author points out that __________.(本题2.0分)A.every child in hospital receives some teachingB.not enough is known about hospital teachingC.hospital teaching is of poor qualityD.the special children’s hospitals are worst off答案:B.解析:无.2.(单选题)It can be inferred from the latest survey that__________.(本题2.0分)A.hospital teaching across the country is similarB.each hospital has at least one part-time teacherC.all hospitals surveyed offer education to childrenD.only one-fourth of the hospitals have full-time teachers答案:D.解析:无.3.(单选题)It seemed that the children interviewed in hospital__________.(本题2.0分)A.liked having math lessons regularlyB.wanted to play gamed most of the timeC.did not expect to receive any teachingD.did not want any contact with their schools答案:C.解析:无.4.(单选题)24.14. Children are greatly different in the amount of listening they do before theystart speaking, and later starters are often long listeners. Most children will “obey” spoken instructions some time before they can speak, though the word “obey” is hardly accurate as a description of the eager and delighted cooperation usually shown by the child. Before they can speak, many children will also ask questions by gesture and by making questioning noises. Any attempt to study the development from the noises babies make to their first spoken words leads to considerable difficulties. It is agreed that they enjoy making noises, and that during the first few months one or two noises sort themselves as particularly expressive as delight, pain, friendliness, and so on. But since these can’t be said to show the baby’s intention to communicate, they can hardly be regarded as early forms of language. It is agreed, too, that from about three months they play with sounds for enjoyment, and that by six months they are able to add new words to their store. This self-imitation leads on to deliberate imitation of sounds made or words spoken to them by other people. The problem then arises as to the point at which one can say that these imitations can be considered as speech. It is a problem we need to get out teeth into. The meaning of a word depends on what a particular person means by it in a particular situation and it is clear that what a child means by a word will change as he gains more experience of the world. Thus the use at seven months of “mama” as a greeting for his mother cannot be dismissed as a meaningless sound simply because he also uses it at other times for his father, his dog, or anything else he likes. Playful and meaningless imitation of what other people say continues after the child has begun to speak for himself, I doubt, howeverwhether anything is gained when parents take advantage of thisability in an attempt to teach new sounds.(本题10.0分)1.(单选题)The author’s purpose in writing the first parag raph is to show that children ______.(本题2.0分)ually obey without asking questionsB.are passive in the process of learning to speakC.are born cooperativeD.learn to speak by listening答案:D.解析:无.2.(单选题)Children who start speaking late ________.(本题2.0分)A.may have problems with their listeningB.probably do not hear enough language spoken around themually pay close attention to what they hearD.often take a long time in learning to listen properly答案:D.解析:无.3.(单选题)Which of the following is TRU E about a baby’s first noises?(本题2.0分)A.That is an expression of his moods and feelings.B.That is an early form of language.C.That is a sign that he means to tell you something.D.That is an imitation of the speech of adults.答案:A.解析:无.4.(单选题)The speaker implies________.(本题2.0分)A.parents can never hope to teach their children new soundsB.children no longer imitate people after they begin to speakC.children who are good at imitating learning new words more quicklyD.even after they have learnt to speak, children still enjoyimitating答案:D.解析:无.5.(单选题)The best title for this passage would be ______.(本题2.0分)A.How Babies Learn to SpeakB.Early Forms of LanguageC.A Huge Task for ChildrenD.Noise Making and Language Learning答案:A.解析:无.。

1.Three university students in Santiago,Chile have developed a phant-powerd device to charge their mobile phones. The three engineering students got the idea for the device while sitting in their school’s courtyard.Their invention is a small biological circuit they call E-Kaia.It captures the energy plants produce during photosynthesis.Aphant uses only a small part of the energy produced by that process,The rest goes into the soil.E-Kaia collects that energy. The device plugs into the ground and then into a mobile phone. The E-Kaia solved two problems for the engineering studnts,They needed an idea for a class project. They also needed an outlet to plug in their phones. One of the student inventors,CamilaRupcich, says the device charges the energy released from the plant into low-level power to charge phones. The E-Kaia is able to fully recharge a mobile phone in less than two hours.I’m Jonathan Evans.2.University of Washington researchers say they used a laser to turn hot water into cool water.Five engineers from the university are the first in the 50-year history of the laser to refrigerate liquids under normal conditions with light beams. The group used a simple approach to the experiment. Lasers are known for producing hot temperatures. The University of Washington says they “essentially ran the laser phenomenon in reverse.” The discovery has a future in the computer and medical fields. Computer interiors could be cooled by lasers. In a medical laboratory, individual cells could be cooled to see how they react. “Few people have thought about how they could use this technology to solve problems because using lasers to refrigerate liquids hasn’t been possible before,” said researcher Peter Pauzauskie. The cool laser concept can also be used in manufacturing, telecommunications or national defense. The group has an interest in hearing from businesses or scientists who may have every day applications for the cool laser. The findings were published this month in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.I’m Marsha James.3.The United States is marking the 14th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks.U.S. officials and many other Americans attended observances Friday to remember those killed and their loved ones. Nearly 3,000 people died on September 11, 2001 when hijackers used four passenger airplanes to carry out suicide attacks in the United States. In addition to the victims, the 19 hijackers also were killed. Al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden and his group claimed responsibility for the attacks. U.S. forces killed him in a surprise raid on his hiding place in Pakistan four years ago. Friday morning, President Barack Obama, his wife and White House workers observed a public moment of silence in Washington. They gathered on the White House grounds at 8:46. That was the exact time when a hijacked airplane struck the World Trade Center. In New York, families of the victims gathered for a ringing of bells and reading of the names of those killed in the terrorist attacks. Moments of silence were held at 8:46 and 9:03 in the morning, when a second hijacked plane also hit the World Trade Center.Near Washington, U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter and other officials attended an observance at the Pentagon, the home of the Defense Department. They joined in remembering those killed when a hijacked airplane hit the Pentagon, killing 184 people.Earlier Friday, a large American flag was hung down the side of the Pentagon, where the passenger jet hit. There also was a moment of silence at 10:03 a.m. That was the time whena fourth hijacked plane crashed in western Pennsylvania. All 44 people on the plane werekilled. Many Americans believe the hijackers had planned to attack a target in the nation’scapital. The fourth plane came down in a field in the rural community of Shanksville. Today, a new visitors center there tells the story of the 9/11 attacks. The Flight 93 National Memorial was set up to recognize the passengers and crewmembers who attacked the hijackers.Stephen Clark is with the U.S. National Park Service. It operates the visitors center and surrounding grounds.“It just amazes me that this aircraft was but 18 minutes away from hitting Washington, D.C.” The field was quiet on Friday, very different from the situation 14 years ago. Gordon Felt’s brother Edward was one of the passengers on United Airlines Flight93 on September 11, 2001.“It is surreal at times. Early on, it became very evident to us veryquickly that our loved ones, the events surrounding their deaths, had historical significance to our country.” The last 35 minutes of Edward Felt’s life, and others on the plane, are explained at the new visitors center. Relatives hope visitors to the memorial will understand the full effect of the actions of their loved ones.“They’ll get a sense of who those 40 heroes were, as well as what their collective actions did to help save the Capitol building that morning.” I’m George Grow.4.A suicide bomber in northwest Pakistan killed at least 26 people and left more than 40 wounded last week. The explosion occurred in the Pakistani city of Mardan. The blast took place outside the door of a government office. The office was the National Database and Registration Authority. That office was in charge of issuing national identity cards. The attacker arrived at the office’s gate on a motorbike. The cyclist was stopped by a security guard. He detonated an explosive vest, according to a witness. An investigation3 into the identity of the bomber is underway. A Pakistani official said if the bomber was not stopped at the gate, the death toll would have been higher. It is estimated that the rider was carrying up to 12 kilograms of explosives. A BBC report said about 50 people were wounded in the blast. Some were injured critically. Most of those killed or injured were civilians. The attack is one of the deadliest in Pakistan since a December 2014 massacre left 150 students and teachers dead in Peshawar, the BBC reported.A faction of the Pakistani Taliban said it carried out the attack. In a statement sent to VOA, the group said it targeted the office because it is part of Pakistan’s anti-terrorism war. But a spokesman for the mainstream Taliban in Pakistan said the Taliban had nothing to do with the bombing in Mardan.5.The government in China plans to end its one-child per family policy and instead let families have two children. The plan was announced Thursday after high-level political meetings in Beijing. The official Xinhua news agency says the country’s top legislature must approve the proposal before it becomes law. A Chinese Communist Party statement gave a number of reasons for the change in policy. The statement said the change is meant to balance populationdevelopment. It said the move also attempts to stop a declining birth rate and stren gthen the country’s work force. China, the world's most populous country, launched the one-child policy in 1980. But the government permitted only a small number of couples to have two children. For example, some rural families were given approval to have two children. A total of 19 rural provinces have a partial two-child policy. That policy states if the first-born is a girl, a second child is permitted. In 2013, the Chinese government gave other couples a chance to have two children. Families could have two if one parent was an only child. A teacher and population expert, Jiang Quanbao, explained how Chinese families will react to the policy. “Too many young people in the cities are probably no longer interested in having a second child,”he said. “People in rural farming villages may be more interested. Butagain, some of them are already allowed to have two children.” At the end of 2014, China had a population of 1.37 billion people. The government in China plans to end its one-chiltotal of 800 million of them are employed. But that job market population is expected to drop by 2050. With the two-child policy, an increase in births will ease the labor shortage, starting in 20 years.6.Luxury Skyscraper Burns in DubaiAuthorities say everyone has been evacuated from a luxury hotel in Dubai that was still burning early Friday. The city’s police chief says all residents were out of the 63-story hotel, known as "The Address." he hotel had been packed with people celebrating New Year’s Eve when fire broke out at a bout 9:30 p.m., (about 1730 UTC). At least 14 people were injured. The hotel stands across from the world's tallest skyscraper, the BurjKhalifa. The BurjKhalifa is more than 800 meters tall. It is the center of spectacular fireworks along the Dubai waterfront for New Year's. Fireworks went on as planned.Flames quickly moved through more than 20 stories of the hotel. It could be seen for kilometers in all directions.Within 30 minutes, flames raced to the top of the hotel tower, and the sky was full of thick black smoke. Burning pieces of the hotel fell to the ground from the tower.Witnesses said tens of thousands of people were crowded into the downtown area near the blazing hotel and the BurjKhalifa. Lasers are known for producing hottemperatures. The University of Washington says“they essentially ran the laser phenomenon in reverse.”The discovery has a future in the computer and medical fields. Computer interiors could be cooled by lasers. In a medical laboratory, individual cells could be cooled to see how they react.“Few people have thought about how they could use this technology to solve problems because using lasers to refrigerate liquids hasn’t been possible before,” said researcher Peter Pauzauskie. The cool laser concept can also be used in manufacturing, telecommunications or national defense. The group has an interest in hearing from businesses or scientists who may have every day applications for the cool laser. The findings were published this month in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.I’m Marsha James.。

身处浮躁的社会如何培养品德Yesterday, in the House of Commons, CharlesKennedy’s parliamentary colleag ues gave movingtributes to his life. There is never a rush, of course,to speak i ll of the dead, but these tributes had theclear ring of sincerity. David Camero n said his“character and courage inspired us all”, and NickClegg that he alwa ys put people before politics. Outside the commons, colleagues and friendsha ve spoken repeatedly of Kennedy’s compassion, decency, and principled n ature as well asof his ongoing battle with human frailty in the form of alcohol ism.It seems Charles Kennedy displayed what the New York Times Columnist Davi d Brooks wouldcall “eulogy virtues”. In his most recent book “The Road to Ch aracter”, Brooks contrasts eulogy virtues like kindness, faithfulness and hu mility with what he calls resume virtues -the kind of things we put on our CV. He’s convinced that both eulogy virtue s and resume virtues take work to develop, and is worried that western societ y pushes us to put our effortsinto the ones that will help improve our careers, not our characters. It's the age old question-what makes a good life? How do we go deeper amongst the clamourof a cult ure that monetises status anxiety and defines us by what earn, own or look like?David Brook’s call for us to do the hard work of developing character, to culti vate self-restraint and self-suspicion in the age of the selfie stick, isn't really controversial. It's obvio us, when we stop to think about it, that the real legacies of our lives aren’t jo b titles, twitter followers or cellulite free thighs. But how do we develop the eu logy virtues, when the gravitational pull of the self is so strong?Christians would be the first to acknowledge that these virtues don't come n aturally. Thechurch’s hunch is that change happens through vulnerable, co mmitted relationships. To overcome the tyrant self we must confess our fr ailty and darkest tendencies - first to God,and then to others.Behavioural science is beginning to add evidence to what religions have long understood -virtue develops best in relational communities. Not short term communities o f self interestmade up of “people like us”, but awkward, diverse, grace filled communities, established forthe long term. The New Testament encourage s Christians to be part of communities like these,to encourage one another, bear with each other and create space for the hard conversations. To keep re minding each other of the virtues that matter and the things that last. These kind ofcommunities aren't of course unique to Christianity, and they are ofte n far from perfect, but ifwe want to be remembered not for our fleeting achi evements but our depth of character, theymight be the best hope we have.In the news,Chinese authorities are working quicklyto reach survivors still tra pped under a passengership that capsized -- or turned over --in theYangtze River late Monday. There were no goods on display; there was no shop-window: nothing but a number of empty shelves at one end of the room in front of which a man was standing on a raised platform, and shouting loudly that the greatest sale of the year was about to begin. I decided to stay and see what would happen.A harassed* assistant began to pile all sorts of odds and ends on the shelves: table-lamps, cutlery-sets*, clocks, electric razors*, crockery*, vases, and a large quantity of small packets all similarly wrapped in bright red paper. When the man at the table was satisfied that a sufficiently large crowd of people had collected, he began distributing the packets, asking for the small sum of three pence in return, and declaring that the value of the contents was fifty times as much.I paid three pence for my packet and was immediately informed thatI should not open it until after the sale. The money I had given, I found, entitled me to bid* for anything on the shelves. All these beautiful and extremely valuable objects, the man announced, would be given away, simply given away. He was as good as his word, for be held up an electric razor and asked a young man (who from the look of his face needed it) whether it was worth six pence. The man had no doubt about the matter and was promptly* handed the razor for the sum asked. The same occurred with a number of other articles,Then, instead of asking for small sums like six pence, the man began to demand larger amounts for "very rare, high-quality antiques." The people present, thinking that these too were being "given away," soon found themselves paying a great deal of money for useless, yacht- like lamps and ugly clocks in carved, heavy frames. I decided I had better go quickly before being tempted into buying something I did not want. In my home country, there was lot of bargaining in almost every store. However, I heard that in the US bargaining is not allowed in large stores, Therefore, I started to explore different stores to compare prices. I spoke to some American colleaguesand neighbours about the different shopping avenues. From whatever information I collected I could find out that some of the best buys could be made at the bargain or discount* stores. That was the first time I came to know about the bargain shopping in the US.From what I have learnt, you could make use of the following techniques tor bargain shopping. Watch for sales. This is when items are offered at a discounted price. The sale might be a set a percentage discount, Sales are generally advertised. Be sure to always check the local paper issued on Sunday; usually all the sales for the week will be announced. Many stores will also have clearance sales*. Items on clearance generally will not be reordered, so the store needs to make room for new goods. Often these sales are unadvertised, Great bargains call be found at clearance sales!Look for and use coupons. These can be found in the Sunday paper, in magazines, sometimes in the telephone book. A coupon is a little slip* of paper allowing you to get a small discount when you buy the specific item described. The coupon will say "Save 40 cents on any Pledge," for example. That means that if you present the coupon at the time of purchase, and if you bought the correct brand and size, and if the expiration* date has not passed, you will pay 40 cents less for that can of Pledge Furniture polish. If the store is having a "double coupon day," the coupon is worth twice as much (you would pay 80 cents less for a can ofPledge).Purchases can be made very inexpensively at garage sales and second hand stores. Used items in good condition often can be found for a low price. Also, check newspapers and local bulletin* boards for listings of used goods for sale.Exercise: Listen to the passage and choose the best answer to each of the following questions.1. B2. A3. A4. D5. 以莫斯科恐怖袭击为主的英语作文The Moscow terrorist attack was a devastating event that shook the entire city and left a deep impact on the lives of many. The attack took place on a busy Monday morning, when a suicide bomber detonated an explosive device in a crowded subway station, resulting in the deaths of over 40 innocent civilians and injuring countless others. The aftermath of the attack has left the city in a state of shock, fear, and mourning as people struggle to come to terms with the senseless violence that has disrupted their lives. The immediate aftermath of the attack was chaotic and terrifying. The subway station was filled with smoke and debris, and the injured and traumatized victims were in desperate need of medical attention. Emergency responders rushed to the scene to provide aid and transport the wounded to nearby hospitals. The streets surrounding the station were filled with panicked and confused bystanders, trying to make sense of the horrifying events that had just unfolded before their eyes. The entire city was thrown into a state of panic and confusion as news of the attack spread rapidly through social media and news outlets. The impact of the attack was not just physical, but also emotional and psychological. The citizens of Moscow were left feeling vulnerable and afraid, unsure of when or where the next attack might occur. The sense of security and safety that they once took for granted had been shattered, and they were forced to confront the harsh reality of living in a world where terrorism could strike at any moment. Many people experienced symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder, struggling to cope with the trauma of the attack and the fear of what might happen next.In the days following the attack, the city came together to mourn the loss of the innocent victims and show support for the survivors and their families. Vigils and memorials were held across the city, where people gathered to light candles, lay flowers, and pay their respects to those who had lost their lives. Theoutpouring of love and solidarity from the community was a powerful reminder of the resilience and strength of the human spirit in the face of tragedy. The government and law enforcement agencies also mobilized to ensure the safety and security of the city. Heightened security measures were put in place at public transportation hubs and other potential targets, and a manhunt was launched to apprehend those responsible for the attack. The authorities worked tirelessly to investigate the motives behind the attack and prevent any further acts of terrorism from occurring in the city. The attack also sparked a national and international conversation about the root causes of terrorism and the ways in which it can be prevented. People grappled with questions about the radicalization of individuals, the influence of extremist ideologies, and the role of global politics in fueling acts of violence. There were debates about the balance between security and civil liberties, and discussions about the importance of promoting tolerance, understanding, and peace in the face of hatred and division. In the months and years that followed, the city slowly began to heal from the wounds of the attack. While the pain and trauma of the event would never fully fade, the people of Moscow showed incredible resilience and strength as they worked to rebuild their lives and their community. They refused to let the terrorists win, and instead, they came together to create a city that was even stronger, more united, and more determined to stand against the forces of fear and violence. In conclusion, the Moscow terrorist attack was a tragic and senseless act of violence that had a profound impact on the city and its people. It left a lasting mark on the community, both physically and emotionally, and sparked important conversations about the nature of terrorism and the ways in which it can be prevented. However, in the face of such devastation, the people of Moscow showed incredible strength and resilience, coming together to support one another andrebuild their lives in the aftermath of the attack. It is a powerful testament to the human spirit and the ability to overcome even the darkest of times.。

恐怖袭击英语作文

恐怖袭击英语作文

恐怖袭击英语作文Terrorist Attack。

Terrorist attacks have become a major concern intoday's society. These attacks are characterized by the use of violence and fear to achieve political, religious, or ideological goals. They often target innocent civilians and can cause widespread panic and devastation. In recent years, there have been numerous high-profile terrorist attacks around the world, including the 9/11 attacks in the United States, the Paris attacks in 2015, and the Manchester bombing in 2017. These attacks have had a profound impacton the way we live our lives and have raised important questions about how to prevent and respond to such acts of violence. One of the most devastating terrorist attacks in recent memory was the 9/11 attacks in the United States. On September 11, 2001, a group of terrorists hijacked four commercial airliners and used them to carry out coordinatedsuicide attacks against the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. Nearly 3,000 people were killed in the attacks, and the impact was felt around the world. The 9/11 attacks led to a significantshift in global politics and security measures, and they continue to shape our understanding of terrorism and its consequences. The Paris attacks in 2015 were another shocking example of the destructive power of terrorism. On November 13, 2015, a series of coordinated attacks took place in Paris, including shootings and suicide bombings at severallocations across the city. The attacks left 130 people dead and hundreds more injured, and they prompted a massive manhunt for the perpetrators. The Paris attacks were astark reminder of the ongoing threat of terrorism in the modern world and the need for effective strategies to prevent and respond to such acts of violence.More recently, the Manchester bombing in 2017 brought the issue of terrorism back into the spotlight. On May 22, 2017, a suicide bomber detonated a homemade bomb at theManchester Arena in Manchester, England, following a concert by American singer Ariana Grande. The attack killed 22 people, many of whom were children and teenagers, and injured hundreds more. The Manchester bombing was a horrifying reminder of the vulnerability of public spaces to terrorist attacks and the devastating impact they can have on communities. In the face of these and other terrorist attacks, it is essential that we work together to prevent and respond to such acts of violence. This requires a multi-faceted approach that includes effective intelligence gathering, law enforcement, border security, and international cooperation. It also involves addressing the root causes of terrorism, such as poverty, political instability, and social alienation, and promoting tolerance, understanding, and dialogue among different cultures and religions. In addition to these proactive measures, it is crucial to have robust emergency response plans in place to minimize the impact of terrorist attacks and to support the victims and their families. This includes training firstresponders, improving communication and coordination among emergency services, and providing psychological support to those affected by the attacks. It also involves strengthening infrastructure and security measures to make public spaces, transportation systems, and critical facilities more resilient to acts of terrorism.Ultimately, the fight against terrorism requires a united and determined effort from governments, law enforcement agencies, civil society, and individuals around the world. By working together, we can reduce the risk of terrorist attacks and mitigate their impact when they do occur. We must remain vigilant and resilient in the face of this ongoing threat, and we must continue to uphold the values of freedom, democracy, and human rights that terrorists seek to undermine. Only by standing together can we overcome the scourge of terrorism and build a safer and more secure future for all.。

Suicide bomber attacks bus station in southern
Israel
Robert Berger
A suicide bomber attacked a bus station in southern Israel Sunday, critically injuring two Israeli security guards. Hours later, Israel approved a border security deal with Egypt to facilitate a complete Israeli pullout from the Gaza Strip.
A Palestinian suicide bomber tried to board a bus at the central station in the southern Israeli city of Beersheba during morning rush hour at the start of the work week. But he aroused the suspicion of the bus driver. Police say security guards chased the bomber, and he blew himself up.
"I saw a terrible ball of fire right in front of my eyes," eyewitness Nissim Vaknin told Israel Radio.
The explosion could have caused mass casualties, had the bomber succeeded in boarding the bus.
The attack came less than a week after Israel completed its evacuation of Jewish settlers from the Gaza Strip.
"It's very troubling. We take down 21 settlements in Gaza, and it appears that terrorism is the response," said Israeli spokesman Mark Regev.
Palestinian militant groups had promised revenge, after Israeli troops raided a West Bank refugee camp last week, and killed five wanted gunmen.
Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas described that raid as a "provocation." But he also denounced the Beersheba bombing as a "terrorist attack," and urged his people to abide by the six-month-old cease-fire.
Hours after the bombing, the Israeli cabinet approved the deployment of 750 Egyptian troops on the Gaza border to prevent weapons-smuggling to Palestinian militants. The deal will enable Israel to withdraw all its troops from Gaza.
But Israeli hawks doubt that Egypt will deliver the goods. Parliamentarian Ehud Yatom says, if Israel withdraws from the border, Gaza will become an arsenal for terrorists.
"I think that it's very, very bad decision, very, very big mistake," he said.
Prime Minister Ariel Sharon wants to withdraw to the international border, so Palestinians won't have an excuse for continuing attacks against Israel.
Vocabulary:
evacuation: the act of evacuating; leaving a place in an orderly fashion; especially for protection(撤退)wanted: desired or wished for or sought(被通缉的)。
