• There are nearly 100 million people who visit France every year. The capital city is Paris. This is regarded as a beautiful and romantic place. Many newly married people spend their honeymoon there. The Eifel tower is perhaps one of the best known buildings in the world. • There are many museums including the Louvre and many people say that French art is the best in the world. • Disneyland is in France and is a major international tourist attraction. • In the south of France there is the French Riviera . this is a one hundred kilometer winding coastline with some rich and beautiful towns. Swimming is excellent. The French Riviera has over three hundred days of sunshine every year and thousands of restaurants. • The French railway system is perhaps the best in Europe. Every train travels at a very high speed usually not less than 320 kilometers every hour. There is a tunnel which connects France with England. It is about 50 kilometers long and it was constructed under the English Channel. The train is called The Eurostar.
• In the 18th and 19th centuries France conquered many countries and became an important world power. There are many different types of climate in France. In the south east it is hot and dry with little rain but the north and west have a climate rather like the U.K. The alps extend into France from Switzerland and France does have some high mountains. Forests make up over 28% of the land area. This contrasts with the U.K. where there is very little forest. • France has a prosperous economy and is the world’s sixth largest exporter of goods especially wine and cheese. French companies are very important to the prosperity of the country, • French people do not like pollution and has taken measures to ensure that it does not emit much carbon dioxide gas. • France is known for its agriculture especially grapes for making wine. It is also known for poultry ( chicken, goose, duck) and beef. The wine which is white and sparkles called champagne is world famous.
• France is the most visited country in the world with nearly 82 million tourists every year. Some English people go and live permanently in France after they have retired ( finished working) • France has a large army .France Also is a member of the United Nations. • The name France comes from thBaidu Nhomakorabea Latin “Francia” which means country of the Franks. • The oldest records of human life in France date from 1,800,000 years ago. Then there was a very harsh climate with ice ages. At the end of the last ice age some 10,000 years ago the people stopped being nomads ( moving around) and began to live in villages. • Emperor Julius Caesar the leading soldier of ancient Rome conquered the land we now know as France and called it Gaul. The conquerors and the conquered were at war for many centuries. After the fall of the Roman Empire the king became more and more important and in the end his power was absolute. France is a famous country in western Europe which extends from the Mediterranean sea in the south to the English channel in the north. It is the second largest country in Europe although it has the same population as the U.K. Over the last five hundred years France like the U.K. has been a major power in the world with very strong cultural, military and economic influences. During the 17th and 18th centuries France conquered parts of North America and Asia. Following the French Revolution of 1789 France became a republic. France is one of the world’s most developed countries and has the world’s fifth largest economy. French people have a high standard of living with excellent schools and universities. People live very long.. France is said to have one of the best standards of health care in the world.
