Step 1 Lead in
(Show some pictures of Qomolangma,the Nile,the Caspian Sea and the Sahara to the students)

Teacher:What is it?
Student 1:It’s Qomolangma.
Teacher:How high is it?
Student 2:It’s 8844.43 meters high.
The teacher can help the student say the number.
Teacher:Qomolangma is the highest mountain in the world.
Let the students repeat. Then show the other pictures like this.

Step 2 Work on 1a-1c
1.学生朗读1a中的数字,教师纠正错误,然后将1a的地理事物和实际情况连线,完成后集体核对答案。

2.根据给出问题说出的句子：What is it?How high is it?加比较级或最高级
如：It’s Qomolangma.It’s 8844.43 meters high.Qomolangma is the highest mountain in the world.
3.认真听录音,将1b中的句子补充完整,完成后集体核对答案。

4.再听一遍录音。

5.两人一组利用1a和1b中的信息仿照1c的形式编练新的小短文。

Step 3 Work on 2a-2c
1.听录音,根据听到的顺序为句子标号,集体核对答案。

2.再认真听一遍录音,将2a中的数字填在合适的句子中,完成后集体核对答案。

3.两人一组利用2a句子中的信息,仿照2c的形式编练新的对话,
邀请几组学生表演新的对话。

Language points
1.population的用法.
（1）population直接作主语时意为“人口数”,这时谓语动词要用单数形式。

但是如果部分人口(分数、百分数)作主语,谓语用复数。

（2）表示“某地有多少人口”有两种表达方式： a.The population of ＋某地＋be＋数词(该句型中population前用冠词the); b.某地＋has a population of ＋数词＋(people)(该句型中population前用冠词a)。

（3）“某地有多少人口”要用“What is the population of ...?”或“Howlarge is the population of...?”提问。

（4）表示人口“多”要用huge或large修饰,表示人口“少”要用small修饰。
