Though she is already one of the most famous pop stars, you’ve probably never heard of a 25-year-old singer-songwriter named Stefani Germanotta. That’s only because almost everyone knows her by her stage name, Lady Gaga.
Born in New York in 1986, Lady Gaga enjoyed music, singing, and dancing from an early age: she started playing the piano when only four years old and loved performing in musicals in high school. At 17, she went to a special school for the arts, but later left because she wanted to become a professional singer as soon as possible.
She became a global star with her first Album The Fame in 2008 and followed it in 2009 with the The Fame Monster. Earlier this year she released a single, “Born this Way,”which broke the record for the quickest sales for a piece of music on iTunes, with one million downloads in only five days.
Most music critics say that what make Lady Gaga’s music stand out is her strong voice and also the strong electric rhythm of most of her songs, which makes them popular in nightclubs.
More original than her music, perhaps, is the way she looks. A big part of her image is her unusual clothes, with her strangest piece of clothing probably having been a dress made partly out of meat, which she wore once in 2010.

Parents who spend more time with their children do more than good schools in helping children’s exam results, according to researchers in America. The team studied more than 10,000 teenagers across the US.
Toby Parcel, a teacher at a university, said, “Our study shows that parents need to know how important they are. They should check homework, attend school events and left their children know that school is important.” The researchers found that pupils who didn’t go to good schools but whose families were supportive of their education and involved in school life did better in their studies than students who went to good schools but whose families were not supportive. “in other words, while both school and family involvement are important, family involvement can help children more when it comes to academic success,” explained Mr Parcel.
The research collected information on many things, including parents’involvement in homework, school events and students’ exam results. They found that the most important things in the relationship between parents and children were trust, good communication and active involvement in a child’s academic life. So the researchers advised the government to improve parenting skills.
But many parents have to work longer and have less time to play with their children o rtalk with them. Then what can the government do? The researchers advised the government to allow
