Established in 1993, the School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD) of the Asian Institute of Technology, has been serving a higher education of the region. The SERD mission is addressed towards the achievement of sustainable development, poverty alleviation while mitigating the effects of climate change. SERD offers three clusters of ten fields of study including Energy and Environment, Bioresources, and Development Studies. The new SERD academic programs are dynamics and multi-disciplinary which could contribute to the regional needs in a timely manner. In 2011 and beyond, SERD is committed to undertake more challenging tasks in preparing well-round committed professionals. Let us work together to make a SERD an exciting higher learning environment.

School of Environment, Resources and Development
For nearly half a century, AIT has been serving the human resource development needs of developing countries in Asia, taking into account their specific development priorities, gender issues and social values. SERD activities and functions are within this framework, as a majority of its graduates return and participate in the development goals of their countries. SERD responds to regional needs by mobilizing and enhancing capacities for socioeconomic and environmental development in partnerships with public and private sectors. The School emphasizes on thematic areas including Bio-resources, Energy and Environment, Development Studies, and Interdisciplinary that integrates technology and natural and social science knowledge in its academic, studies and training activities. The school will continue its leadership role in offering excellence academic programs relevant to regional needs and responsive to students’ interests. Research will be concentrated in focal areas and conducted by core teams. Outreach will be community-service-oriented. The school will be consolidated and financially viable. The school’s activities, including the students, staffs, faculties, and curricula, will be subjected to quality assessment.

The Asian Institute of Technology promotes technological change and sustainable development in the Asia Pacific region through higher education, research and outreach. Established in Bangkok in 1959, AIT has become a leading regional postgraduate institution and is actively working with public and private sector partners throughout the region and with some of the top universities in the world. Recognized for its multinational, multi-culture ethos, the institute is composed of the School of Engineering and Technology, School of Environment, Resources and Development, School of Management, and AIT Extension. The campus is located just north of Bangkok, Thailand.
