In Copenhagen, an 8-year dream was realized when the first paid skiers took their runs down a one-third-mile course (路线).They skied on what is possibly the greenestpower factory in the world. The factory is so clean and safe that designers were able to turn its buildings into a new center for social life.
The waste-to-power factory itself opened in 2017 under the name Amager Bakke.Bjarke Ingels is the architect whosecompany came up with the idea eight years ago of designing a power plant building that would join mountain sports into its very nature.
“It is the cleanest waste-to-energy power plant in the world. It is not only better for the environment, it is also moreenjoyable for the lives of its citizens.” Ingels says 97% of city people get their heating as a by-product of energy production. It comes from a system where the electricity, heating, and waste disposal (处理) are mixed into a single process. He dreams that it is also becoming an example that others can look to and say, “IfCopenhagencan do it why can' t we?"
There are no hills in this island city, but now people can ski locally, while enjoying the best views ever seen of the harbor.Another thing missing hereis snow cover throughout the winter, so designers set up a kind of special "plastic grass" that provides the perfect friction (摩擦力) for downhill winter sports.
In a country where 600, 000 skiers always had to travel to practice sking, to be able to finally ski in their backyard-and, all year round - is, as one skier said, “AMAZING.”
The company hopes to see 300, 000 visitors enjoying the experience of Copen hill each year, with the ski slope costing $ 22 an hour or just $ 366 for a full season pass.Meanwhile, the city is one step closer to its final goal of becoming the world's first carbon-neutral city by 2025.We thinkit might be all “down hill” from here.

A student had to get his long hair cut off in a middle school in GuangDong Province. It was talked a lot among teachers and students.
In fact, all schools have their own rules. In most schools, boy students are not allowed to have long hair while girls are not allowed to dye their hair. And most school rules say that students should wear their school uniforms at school. And students must obey these rules so that they can get healthy development at school.
But some students have disagreements. They think that boy students having long hair doesn't mean that they are not good students. They want to show their own personality. They think that they would look cool too if they had long hair and the hairstyles like their favorite stars.
A girl student thought that she would look much more beautiful if she had brown hair. So she had her dark hair dyed brown one day. When she went back to school the next day, the teacher was very angry with her. She said that she worked hard at her lessons and did well in every subject. She just didn't know why the teacher didn't allow her to dye her hair while women teachers can.
It is not wrong for teenagers to love stars' hairstyles or wear their favorite clothes. However, a school has its own rules for all the students to obey so that the school can be in good order. Students should not break the rules at school.

A. The students should be against them.
B. They are bad for students.
C. They can make schools in good order.
D. They can't make students grow healthily.
11. What is the passage mainly about?
A. Hair styles and clothes.
B. Schoolboys and schoolgirls.
C. Students and famous stars.
D. School rules.

It was very cold and I had been watching a homeless man make himself comfortable in a “shelter” on the river bank. His “shelter” was a tarpaulin (油布)tied to rocks to keep the wind from blowing it away. He had been living there for over a month. I never saw him with warm clothing or food. I knew what I wanted to do.
When I told my parents what I wanted to do they werealarmed. They said I could be putting myself at risk, taking a box to a homeless person at night! But I knew, in my deep heart, that I would be safe.
I got a box. My parents watched as I added warm gloves, a heavy blanket ... into the box until it was full! Then, I put a Christmas card on top. It said, “Even though we hardly know each other, I want to wish you a Merry Christmas!” I put ten one-dollar bills inside it as well.
My father insisted he went there with me as it was 10 pm on Christmas Eve. I said he could drive me but he had to stay in the car. He agreed.
I took the box and walked towards his “house”. I called, “Sir, I have a Christmas box for you!”
“Go away!” he shouted.
“Sir,” I repeated.
“Go away!” he shouted.
“Why?” I asked him.
He walked over and I expected to see an angry face. Instead I saw two of the most beautiful, gentle, blue eyes I have ever seen.
“Merry Christmas!” I said.
“Why are you doing this?” he asked.
“Because you matter to me,” I said. With that I gave him the box.
Tears came to his eyes and he thanked me. I got back to the car and watched him carry the box like it was
filled with gold. I didn’t want to embarrass (使困窘) him by watching him any more so Dad and I left.
