第三部分阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)
第一节(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)
阅读下列短文,从所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。
A
Until last spring, Nia Parker and the other kids in her neighborhood went to school on Bus 59.But as fuel prices rose, the school district needed to find a way t o cut its transportation costs. So the school’s busing company redrew its route map, canceling Nia’s bus. Now Nia and her neighbors travel the half mile to school via a “walking school bus”—a group of kids, supervised (监护) by an adult or two, who make the walk together.
Many parents are delighted to see their kids walking to school, partly because many did so themselves. According to a 1979 survey, nearly half of school kids walked or biked to school, compared with only 16 percent in 2011.Modern parents have been unwilling to let kids walk to school for fear of traffic, crime or simple bullying, but with organized adult supervision, those concerns have reduced.
Schools and busing companies are finding other ways to save.In rural areas where busing is a must, some schools have even chosen four-day school weeks. Busing companies instruct drivers to cancel extra stops from routes and to turn off the engine while idling(挂空挡).They are also using computer software to determine the most fuel-efficient routes, which aren’t always the shortest ones.
There could be disadvantages, however, to the busing cutbacks. If every formerly bused student begins walking to school, it’s an environmental win—but if too many of their parents decide to drive them instead, the overall carbon footprint can grow. Replacing buses with many more parent-driven cars can also increase safety risks.
A 2011 report concluded students are 13 times safer on a school bus than in a passenger car, since buses have fewer accidents and withstand(承受) them better due to their size. And some students complain about the long morning hikes, particularly when the route contains a really big hill.
56. In regards to walking to school, modern parents seem much concerned with the
_____.
A. safety of their kids’
B. kids’ physical strength
C. time spent on the way
D. changes in the route
57. To save money, some schools choose to _____.
A. shorten the school week
B. take the shortest routes
C. stop using school buses
D. use fuel-efficient buses
58. Busing cutbacks may lead to _____.
A. fewer complaints about long morning hikes
B. more students taking public transportation
C. an increase in carbon dioxide emissions
D. a decrease in the safety of school buses

When it comes to success in business and success in life, there are few qualities as important as confidence.
People naturally have different levels of confidence. Some have a higher level of confidence than others do, but even those whose confidence is lacking can learn to build their level of confidence and reach their most important goals. Increasing self confidence is one of the most common reasons people give for seeking the help of psychologists and other professionals.
One of the many places where a greater level of confidence is useful is in the workplace. We all know how difficult it can be, for instance, to ask the boss for a raise. This process can be extremely difficult for those who lack confidence in their own abilities. After all, if you are unsure about your own abilities, how will you ever convince your boss that you deserve more money for the work you do?
Even if you are not asking for that big raise, having plenty of confidence in your abilities is important to success. If you are certain of your abilities, chances are that those around you, whether they are your coworkers, your colleagues or your superiors, will see that confidence, and that will help to assure them that you are the best at what you do.
Being thought of as the person to go to, and being seen as an expert in your chosen field, is naturally very important to success on the job. If you can make yourself the person people go to for guidance and advice, you will help to protect yourself from the ever present danger of downsizing(裁员).After all, if you are a recognized expert at the office, you will be regarded as an indispensable member of the team.
Having a high level of confidence, after all, does not mean overlooking the places where you could improve. Knowing what you do well and where you need help will help you enjoy increased success and confidence.

A. who think their goals are hard to reach
B. who expect to give guidance to others
C. who want to ask the boss for a raise

65. What does the underlined word "indispensable" in Paragraph 5 probably mean?
A. important
B. attractive

B. To make full use of one's advantages.
C. To have great confidence in one's abilities.

Keeping a busy social life among lots of friends may keep people thinner than
spending hours doing some exercises, according to scientists. They say that socializing and meeting with friends help increase levels of brown fat in the body which burns calories(卡路里)to produce heat.
Living in an exciting social environment was found to reduce fat in mice's belly by half over four weeks, even if they ate more. US researchers say that social excitement aids weight loss by turning white fat into brown. White fat stores calories and makes us fatter, while brown burns energy to produce heat. Turning white fat into brown is extremely difficult, normally requiring long- term stay in cold conditions or exciting part of the body's nervous system.
However, scientists from Ohio State University now think that having a busy social life is an even more effective way of changing white fat into brown. The team came up with their theory by studying the effects of various living environments on mice. Those, who lived alongside a greater number of mice, had more space and toys to excite themselves and then lost far more weight over the course of the study than their “couch potato" fellows.
Study author, Dr Matthew During, whose team's findings appear in the journal Cell Metabolism, said, "I'm still amazed at the degree of fat loss that occurs." Explaining how new technology had threatened face-to-face socializing, he added, "It's not just a sedentary (久坐的)lifestyle and high calorie foods, but an increasing lack of social activities." Co-author Dr Lei Cao said,"Loneliness is a potential factor for cancer and death; it's equal to cigarette smoking to a certain extent. Social activities are very vital.,,
67. What information can we get from the first two paragraphs?
A. Brown fat stores calories and makes us fatter.
B. It doesn't take long to turn white fat into brown.
C. Social excitement helps gain more weight.
D. Brown fat can burn energy to produce heat.
68. Which of the following statement does the text support?
A. Levels of brown fat can be increased by socializing.
B. The mice lacking social life lose more weight.
C. The research findings haven't been published so far.
D. Dr Matthew During wasn't convinced of the result.
69. We can conclude from the text that _______.
A. the fat in mice's belly was reduced because of the relaxing environment
B. a sedentary lifestyle and high calories foods influence people's social life
C. surfing the Internet may influence people's face-to-face communication
D. cancer and death are mainly caused for lack of social life
70. What’s the main idea of the text?
A. Brown fat is beneficial to people's health.
B. Socializing is unnecessarily important in people's daily life.
C. White fat can be changed into brown fat.
D. Socializing contributes to people's losing weight.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)

Doctors say anger can be an extremely damaging emotion, unless you learn how to deal with it. They warn that anger can lead to heart disease, stomach problems, headaches, emotional problems and possibly cancer.
71 Some people express anger openly in a calm reasonable way. Others
burst with anger, scream and yell. But other people keep their anger inside. They can not or will not express it. This is called repressing anger.
For years many doctors think that repressing anger is more dangerous to a person’s health than expressing it. They say that when a person is angry, the brain releases the same hormones (荷尔蒙). They speed the heart rate, raise blood pressure, or sugar into the blood, etc. 72
Some doctors say that both repressing and expressing anger can be dangerous. They believe that those who express anger violently may be more likely to develop heart disease, and they believe that those who keep anger inside may face a greater danger of high blood pressure.
73 They say the first step is to admit that you are angry and to recognize the real cause of the anger, then decide if the cause is serious enough to get angry about. If it is, they say, “ 74 Wait until your anger has cooled down and you are able to express yourself calmly and reasonably.”
Doctors say that a good way to deal with anger is to find humor in the situation that has made you angry. 75
A.In general, the people feel excited and ready to act.
B.They say that laughter is much healthier than anger.
C.Expressing anger violently is more harmful than repressing it.
D.Anger may cause you a cancer.
E.Do not express your anger while you are angry.
F.Anger is a normal emotion that we all feel from time to time.
G.Doctors say the solution is to learn to deal with anger.
