In my life everything was going well till the time I married. I had always been a very positive thinking and positive person and I always used to believe that I could overcome any challenge or win any person’s heart with my patience.
But unfortunately I failed, and that failure hit me very hard. I went through a very difficult time when I had to decide to move on and I started seeking answers. I started losing my faith in humanity for a very brief period in my life. And I decided to give up completely myself from society.
But somewhere inside I had a deep feeling of serving needy people because in childhood I was very much
inspired by Mother Teresa and the work she was doing. So after several months of suffering, I decided to do community service every weekend to change my mental state and joined an organization.
I was handed over a project to teach poor children. I started that activity and on the first day when I reached the location after much difficulty, I walked inside a poor village which was really far from civilization. There I could see people living in very difficult conditions without electricity and modern transportation but still enjoying their life and happy with their surroundings.
My interactions with the kids and parents has taught me valuable lessons about suffering and learning to celebrate daily gifts of life. After that project, I am hopeful about my future life.
I have met some wonderful and beautiful souls in this journey and they have made me believe that there are many more such souls around us, and slowly, we are making changes and touching the lives of many.

In American English when we need to admit that we are wrong, we usually eat something. For example, admitting a mistake often requires that we swallow(吞下)our pride. The expression means that we must forget ourselves in order to repair the damage our mistake has done.
Let’s say you are bragging about something you can do. But it turns out you can’t. If you say that something is true when it isn’t, you may have to eat your own words.
Sometimes when we offer a challenge, we make a bet. We may use the phrase. “If I’m wrong, I’ll eat my hat.”This is a way of saying, “There’s no way I’m wrong.” In many old American films and television show, this phrase is used as a joke. And the joke scene is always the same; someone, proved wrong, shakes the salt on his har as he pretends to eat it.
So swallowing pride, eating words, or even eating one’s hat are all fairly easy to understand. But what about eating crow? Why is eating crow a way of admitting you’re wrong?
Some language experts say this expression comes from a short story “The Strange Ride of Morrowbie Jukes.”
Morrowbie Jukes was a European in India. While traveling one day, he fell into a sand pit and could not escape. Another man, a native Indian, was also trapped in the same sand pit. The Indian man stayed alive by catching wild crows and eating them. Morrowbie was full of pride as he shouted, “I shall never eat crow!”
However, days passed and he had eaten nothing. Hungry and facing certain death, he finally did what he promised he wouldn’t do—eating crow.
28. What does the underlined word “bragging” in paragraph 2 mean?
A. Worrying.
B. Going mad.
C. Discussing.
D. Talking big.
29. How does someone probably behave when he is proved wrong in old American films?
A. He throws his hat.
B. He acts as if he ate his hat with salt.
C. He directly eats the salt on his hat.
D. He eats all of the salt on his head.
30. Why did the native Indian mentioned in the text eat crow?
A. To survive.
B. To admit his mistake.
C. To enjoy the special taste.
D. To teach the European to save life.
31. What can be the best title for the text?
A. A Story of an Indian and a European.
B. The History of England and American.
C. The Origins and Usage of Expressions in American English.
D. Some Differences between British English and American English.
