13、Swimming in the water of Hawaii’s Big Island is a fun experience. And it can be more exciting if there are dolphins swimming around and jumping out of the sea too. For many people,it would be a wonderful dream to swim with these lovely animals! However, this may not be good for dolphins. They may get hurt because of human interaction (互动). Dolphins are active and usually look for food at night. In the day, they like to rest in shallow bays(浅湾). Many people think the dolphins are awake during the day as they swim. But when they sleep they rest half of their brain and keep the other half awake to breathe,so they may be sleeping even when they’re swimming in the water.
From 2010 to 2013,spinner dolphins (飞旋海豚) of Hawaii’s Big Isl and appeared to human activities more than 82 percent of the time, according to Julian Tyne,a researcher at Australia’s Murdoch University.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) says disturbing the animals in their near-shore habitat could force them to swim to less pleasant places where they may be attacked by sharks and other animals.
Moreover, when people are around, dolphins become more active. Thus, they can’t get enough sleep. “Disturbing their resting behaviors can actually affe ct their long term health and the health of the dolphin population.” Ann Garrett of NOAA’s National Marine Fisheries Service said.
As a result, the NOAA wants to make rules to help protect the dolphins. For example, people may not be allowed to swim with the Hawaii spinner dolphins. Or they may stop people from swimming in shallow bays when the dolphins are resting. Tour operators must also be taught to watch for signs to know when the dolphins are in their resting state.

2.When dolphins are disturbed in their near-shore habitat,they ________.
A.would swim to you

“The two nurses who put private locks on public-use bikes disturbed the public order,” said Liu Lin, a lawyer at Beijing Shuangli Law Firm, because it prevented other people from using the bikes.
Those who intentionally damage property(故意破坏财产) may face a 5-day administrative detention(行政拘留), according to the Law on Public Security Administration Punishments.
Tang Ke from the publicity office of OFO, the company that owns the bikes, confirmed the news and said further investigation(调查) was underway.

17、Are you feeling sad, tired, forgetful or unhappy today? It may be caused by the weather.
Weather has a great effect on people’s health, intelligence and feelings. Different weather makes people feel different.
In August, it is very hot and wet in the southern part of the United States. There are usually more patients in the hospitals during this month. Some of them have heart trouble and other kinds of health problems. In February or March, it is very hot sometimes and very cold at other time in the north and the west. People there have heart trouble more often.
The weather can influence intelligence. Scientists have discovered that people’s IQ may change in different weather. For example, in a 1983 report by scientists, one’s IQ may be very high when a very strong wind comes. It may be 10% below after the strong wind. The wind could improve people’s intelligence. On the other hand, hot weather may make a person’s IQ lower. For example, students in many schools of the United States may get worse grades in exams during the hot months of the year.
Weather also has a strong influence on people’s feelings. Winter may be a bad time for thin people. They might feel unhappy during cold weather. But fat people may have a hard time in hot summer. Lower air pressure may make people forgetful. It’s more possible for people to leave bags on buses or in shops on low air pressure days. Of course, there is “good weather” for work and health. People feel best at a temperature of about 18 °C.

18、Next time you make yourself a hot cup of tea or coffee, you might want to let it cool down a bit before drinking.
Researchers say letting your hot drinks cool off could help you avoid some kinds of cancer. Researchers at the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) found evidence that drinks at temperatures above 65 degrees Celsius, when swallowed, can cause cancer of the esophagus (食道). The researchers examined findings from other studies where tea and coffee were often served at 70degrees Celsius or above. Those studies were completed in Iran, China and South America.
In developed countries, health experts have linked esophageal cancer to smoking and alcoholic drinks. However, this form of cancer is more common in areas where people drink beverages at very high temperatures.
In Europe and the United States, many people drink coffee and tea at temperatures around 60degrees Celsius. And they often add milk which lowers the temperature considerably. However, tea﹣drinkers in Iran and mate﹣drinkers in South America often enjoy their beverages at closer to 70degrees Celsius.
The researchers note that South Americans not only drink their mate very hot, they also drink it through a metal straw. This sends the scalding liquid directly into the throat.
The findings, however, are good news for coffee drinkers. In 1991, the World Health Organization listed coffee as possibly carcinogenic (致癌的). WHO officials have since changed their position on that listing. They now suggest that the temperature of your hot drink is a greater risk factor than the actual drink itself.
The results suggest that drinking very hot beverages is one probable cause of esophageal cancer and that it is the temperature, rather than the drinks themselves, that appears to be responsible.
1.What might be the cause of esophageal cancer in developed countries?
A.Smoking. B.Alcoholic drinks. C.Unhealthy vegetables. D.Hot drinks.
2.Where do tea﹣drinkers like adding milk?
A.In China. B.In Iran. C.In South America. D.In Europe.
3.What does the underlined word “scalding” in paragraph 5 mean?
A.Sweet. B.Hot. C.Sour. D.Harmful.
4.What is the best title for the passage?
A.Cool it Down before Drinking B.Hot Drinks Are Still Popular
