Cars powered by gasoline were sold for many years before hybrid vehicles that use gasoline, electricity, and solar energy, Car companies are now making cars that are fully powered by electricity only. How do these electric cars measure up to (符合标准) traditional gasoline cars?
Electric and gasoline vehicles look similar on the outside. They have very different parts under their hoods. though. Electric cars have one main moving part: the motor. But gas cars literally have hundreds of parts, often requiring frequent maintenance (保养) Having fewer parts makes the electric car cheaper to maintain and less likely to have mechanical problems.
Electric vehicles are energy efficient, also making them cheaper to operate. It costs about $1.
00 to travel 43 miles in an electric car, which is a clear contrast to a gas car, which costs about $1.
25 to go 18 miles. Basically, an electric car can go twice as far as a gas car for the same price.
Electric vehicles do not have tailpipe emissions, making them more friendly to the environment, too.
While some details make electric cars seem attractive, other details aren’t as favorable. For example, some electric cars can travel only 60 to 120 miles on a full charge (充电) . Most gas cars can drive hundreds of miles on a full tank.
An electric car has to stop more often to get recharged. Therefore, a gas car would be a better option (选择) if you have far to drive. And electric cars aren’t as convenient (方便的) to power up as gas cars are. There are plenty of gas stations, but not many charging stations for electric cars. Then, once an electric car reaches a charging station, it can take up to six hours to charge.
There are certainly benefits to both electric cars and gasoline cars. It’s good to know that

Though times have changed, falling asleep in class is still a common occurrence(常事)among teenagers.
Why do students sometimes fall asleep in class? An obvious reason is lack of sleep. However, there are also causes for getting too little sleep.
Homework is a daily occurrence for most students, one that can take three to four hours per night.A teenager who wants to be able to take part in any activity besides homework must stay up late to fit everything in.Club activities, sports, computer﹣game playing, and TV viewing.for example, all contribute to (促成)teens having less time for both homework and sleep.Sometimes teens lack sleep because of after﹣school jobs that are taken on to earn extra money for college, family expenses,or simply for clothes.
Physical problems are another factor that can cause students to fall asleep in class. For example,
insomnia, which may keep a student up at night, causing exhaustion(疲惫不堪)during class hours,
is a serious problem that may require medical attention.Medical evidence also supports the idea that
each person has a body clock that helps to decide his or her sleep pattern.Unluckily, these body
clocks do not always work according to school timetables.
The effects of falling asleep in class can be quite serious.First of all, sleeping in class is not a
good way to endear(使受喜爱)yourself to teachers. In addition,it is highly possible that other students may make jokes about those who sleep in class. However, the most harmful effect of sleeping in class is missing out on important points. In the long run, sleepers may end up failing classes.
Since teens are probably not going to deal with the problem, falling asleep in class will probably
remain an all﹣too﹣common occurrence. It will continue until more teens find a way to balance their
personal and social lives with school and work, while still finding enough time to sleep.

Millie Bobby Brown, a child actor with great talent, is growing into a successful adult actor. She’s best known for the role of Eleven in the science fiction drama Stranger Things. In that show, she plays a girl who escapes from a laboratory that was doing experiments on her. She comes out from the lab near a small town in the central United States. Strange events have been taking place there. Millie’s performance in Stranger Things is thought highly of. The role was especially challenging because it required her to show intense emotion (激情) without speaking
much. According to the show’s creators, child actors often find it hard to stay in
character when their characters aren’t speaking. Millie didn’t have that problem, though.
Although she speaks with an American accent (口音) on Stranger Things, Millie
is actually English. However, she was born in Spain and has also lived in the U.S. and Canada. Her parents have supported her dreams of acting, even moving the family to Los Angeles, California, to give her more chances to act.
In 2013, the year after the family moved to Los Angeles, Millie made her first appearance in public as Alice in the TV drama Once Upon a Time in Wonderland. Shortly after that she played the lead role in the show Intruders.
Things haven’t always gone smoothly for Millie, however. At one point, she struggled to get roles, and it was difficult for her family to support her acting dream. They finally moved back to England. But just then Millie was worrying that she would never become a professional ( 职业的) actor. She got the role in Stranger Things. It began to air in 2016.
Since then, Millie has continued acting, appearing in the movie Godzilla: King of the Monsters. She also produced and starred in Enola Holmes, a Netflix movie about the teenage sister of detective Sherlock Holmes. As a producer, she helped make decisions in the casting and overall look of the film.
Millie has also become UNICEF’s youngest Goodwill Ambassador, a role in which she speaks out for children who need help.
Millie’s rise to fame came as a surprise after a long struggle. But her continuing
popularity will likely be more than a passing fad (时尚).

Should schools pay students to come to class?
Friday is payday for students at one charter high school in Cincinniti. Dohn Community High School recently began rewarding students who had perfect attendance and good behavior with cold, hard cash. At the end of each week, seniors who have shown up on time all five days and stayed out of trouble receive $25, while younger students who have done the same receive $10.
People who support the program and others who like it say the rewards motivate (激发)many kids to come to class when they would otherwise stay at home. Those who oppose (反对) such programs say that paying kids sends the wrong message. They say students should come to class because they want to learn, not because they want to earn money.
Students’ reporters Joseph Maneen and Peter Brosnan hold different opinions.
YES.
I believe granting money to high school students for attendance is a good idea. Teens can use that money to help themselves later on in life, whether for college, an apartment, or a rainy day.
Studies have shown that rewards can motivate students to go to school and that the more kids are in school, the more they learn. Chloe Hughes, a 15-year-old high school student from Bradford, Mass agrees. “The money at the end of the week encourages students to try hard in school and get better grades.” she says. “By making money at school, there is no need to get a separate job, so
they can focus on their studies.” Receiving the money will make many teens want to come to school, rather than be on the street getting into trouble.
NO.
Think about what motivates you to go to school every day. Your list might include learning new information or spending time with your friends. Should getting paid be included on that list? Of course not!
Learning to be self-motivated is an important life skill. “Students should want to come to school and want to learn, not to make money.” Leigh Kouril, an eighth grader from N.Y. explains. “Students should realize that doing well in school now could help them to earn a good living in the future.”
In addition, students may be unlikely to pay attention in class if they are being paid just to attend.
Finally, paying students to attend class sends the wrong message. Students may think that basic tasks deserve tangible (有形的) rewards. Intangible rewards, such as gaining self-confidence, are worth much more than money. Anna Kouril, another eighth grader from Yorktown Heights, says, “What students put into their education is what they will get out of it.”
