The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) included on December 17, 2020 China's Tai Chi on the RepresentativeList of the Intangible(无形的)Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The decision was announced during the online meeting of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage held from December 14 to19 inKingston, capital ofJamaica.
“Born in the mid-17th century in a small village named Chenjiagou located in Central China's Henan province, Tai Chi is not only a kind of traditional Wushu integrated with slow movements and deep breathing, but is also deeply rooted in many areas of Chinese culture, such as medicine and philosophy,”Zhu Xianghua says, who is the son of the famous Tai Chi master Zhu Tiancai.
Although it has spread to more than 150 countries and regions, attracting more than 100 million people to practice, the idea that Tai Chi is for the elderly has stopped many young people practicing the ancient Wushu. They think of it as a slow exercise, which is specially made and better suited for their grandparents. Instead, many young people are turning to the Indian practice of yoga(瑜伽)to relieve stress, which was placed on the UNESCO's List in 2019.

Even as Google plans to test its fleet (车队) of self-driving cars on public roads this summer, its business model remains abit of a mystery. By 2025, as many as 250,000 self-driving vehicles could be sold each year globally,
according to a study by an industry research firm.
“Vehicles that can take anyone from A to B at the push of a button could transform mobility for millions of people,” said Chris Urmson, director of Google’s self-driving car project. For now, Google has no plans to sell any of its self-driving cars. They are strictly for research. But they will hit public roads this summer near Google’s headquarters inMountain View,California. Previous testing has taken place only on closed courses.
The cars are built to operate without a steering wheel, accelerator (油门) or brake pedal. “Our software and sensors do all the work,” Urmson said. “The vehicles will be very basic — we want to learn from them and adapt them as quickly as possible — but they will take you where you want to go at the push of a button.” The prototype (雏形) is the first of a 100-car fleet the tech giant is building.
In the long run, Urmson sees a future of safer roads — the majority of auto accidents are caused by human error — and fewer traffic jams. Robotic cars could also shuttle people who can’t drive because of age or illness.
Google has said that self-driving cars could launch new business models in which people buy the use of vehicles they don’t own. The company has already tested other types of self-driving cars on public streets, including modified Lexus sport-utility vehicles, under a special permit program by the California Department of Motor Vehicles that requires a human driver at the controls.
The state has issued six other companies permits to operate such cars, includingDelphi, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, Tesla, Bosch and Nissan. The vehicles that will be tested on open roads this summer will have removable steering wheels, accelerators and brake pedals to allow “safety drivers” to take control if needed.
8. According to Chris Urmson, __________.
A. self-driving cars can give driving orders to humans
B. self-driving cars are specially designed for the elderly
C. software and sensors are vital for self-driving cars
D. ordinary vehicles will be replaced by self-driving cars
9. Paragraph 4 is meant to tell us that __________.
A. many traffic accidents are caused by human error
B. some people can’t drive because of illness or age
C. Urmson has promised to create safer roads in the future
D. self-driving cars will probably help to make safer roads and decrease traffic jams
10. The underlined word “issued” in the last paragraph can probably bereplaced by__________.
A. given
B. claimed
C. awarded
D. prohibited
11. What’s the author’s attitude towards self-driving cars?
A. Objective.
B. Indifferent.
C. Subjective.

Too much TV-watching can harm children’s ability to learn andeven reduce their chances of getting a college degree, new studies suggest in the latest effort to examine the effects of television on children.
One of the studies looked at nearly 400 northern California third-graders. Those with TVs in their bedrooms scored about eight points lower on math and language arts tests than children without bedroom TVs.
A second study ,looking at nearly 1000 grown-ups in New Zealand, found lower education levels among 26-year-olds who had watched lots of TV during childhood. But the results don’t prove that TV is the cause and don't ride out that already poorly motivated youngsters (年轻人)may watch lots of TV.
Their study measured the TV habits of 26-year-olds between ages5 and 15. These with college degrees had watch an averageof less than two hours of TV per week night during childhood, compared with an average of more than 2.5 hours for those who had no education beyond high school.
In the California study, children with TVs in their rooms but no computer at home scored the lowest while those with no bedroom TV but who had home computers scored the highest.
While this study does not prove that bedroom TV sets caused the lower scores, it adds to increasing findings that children shouldn't have TVs in their bedrooms.
12. According to the California study, the low-scoring group might _________.
A. have had computers in their bedrooms
B. not be interested in math
C. be unable to go to college
D. have watched a lot of TV
13. What is the researchers' understanding of the New Zealand study results?
A. Poorly motivated 26-year-olds watch more TV.
B. Habits of TV watching reduce learning interest.
C. The connection between TV and education levels is difficult to explain.
D. TV watching leads to lower education levels of the 15-year-olds.
14. What can we learn from the last two paragraphs?
A. TV sets shouldn't be allowed in children's bedrooms.
B. Children should be forbidden from watching TV.
C. More time should be spent on computers.
D. Further studies on high-achieving students should be done
15. What would be the best title for this text?
A. Computers or Television
B. Effects of Television on Children
C. Studies on TV and College Education
D. Television and Children's Learning Habits

选项中有两项为多余选项The word "emoji" comes from Japanese, literally meaning "picture character".___16___They come in different categories, such as faces and people, plants and animals, and food and drink.
When first introduced inJapanin 1999, emojis were limited to 176 simple designs. Now there are more than 3,000 emojis. Due to their popularity, the Oxford Dictionaries Word of the Year in 2015 was a pictograph instead of a traditional word.
In today’s world, emojis have become more and more popular.___17___People like them because they add emotional meanings, and are quick and easy to use. With a smiling or sad face added to a message or post, your reader can "see" your facial expression while reading your words.

___19___A Shakespeare series for young readers has taken William Shakespeare’s popular plays and replaced some words with textspeak and emojis. The intention of these adaptations is to make the classics more accessible to young readers. Some people, however, believe that these new versions have taken away the heart and soul of Shakespeare’s plays.
As we can see, emojis have a tendency to pop up all over the place. Users of emojis say that they facilitate the way we communicate and express ourselves. But this makes others, especially educators, worry that we are losing the ability to communicate properly using the written word, or even the spoken word. After all, how many of us today would rather send a message packed with emojis than make a telephone call?___20___On that day, emojis will have become a real pictorial "language". But, for now, maybe it’s best that we just enjoy using them.
A. Maybe emojis’ best days are ahead.
B. The most popular emojis are classics.
C. The use of emojis has even spread to classical literature.
D. Perhaps people will one day choose to communicate in pictures.
E. It seems that emojis have clear advantages over written language.
F. Emojis are small symbols representing ideas, emotions or feelings.
G. Emojis can also help people express their feelings when they can’t find the appropriate words.

Nowadays we can still see some behavior against public morals. As was often the case, people tend to talk loud in public places, annoyed others around. Spitting and littering rubbish can be seen anywhere. Besides, it’s common that the young or middle-aged sit on the bus when the elderly have to stand.
Measure must be taken to change this situation. First of all, as students, we should manage our own behavior but help people around you form good habits. Meanwhile, it is necessary for the government and some organizations to encourage people to behave proper.
Don’t undervalue the role we can play with. Do remember we can make difference! Take action right now!
