The first carnivals were held long ago. Italians
organised festivals before the beginning of Lent.
Carnivals became widely—celebrated public events in the 15th century. People enjoyed wearing masks and clothes
that are not fitting closely in order to hide their identities。

Today a carnival costume may include a ballet skirt or an extravagant(奢侈的) suit。

It is interesting that today carnivals are popular in many European countries.

Carnival fans can enjoy amusing festivities in the UK。

A famous carnival of Notting Hill is considered to be the second largest street festival in Europe. It began in 1966 and was influenced by the Caribbean music. The Notting Hill festival takes place at the end of August. Thousands of tourists come to London to live out this unforgettable experience。

People can organize their own carnival parties at home when celebrating birthdays, weddings and other memorable events。
