develop well into the 1990s. Still operating on many of the original principles, today’s instruments are more
robust, predominantly software controlled, data intensive and highly
for reliable, precise vacuum measurement across a wide vacuum range, from 10-11 Torr to 1,000 Torr, for the most demanding mass spectrometry applications. MicroPirani™, Micro-Ion® and hot and cold cathode gauges offer high quality, increased reliability and superior lifetime performance.
detecting and quantifying compounds over a large dynamic range of concentrations to very low limits.
New Challenges in Mass Spectrometry
Mass spectrometers have improved rapidly in performance and can differentiate between molecules that weigh 356.0005 amu from those that weigh 356.0006 amu. These highly sensitive instruments are routinely used for high throughput analyses, generating terabytes of data. Resolving power, robustness and accuracy has also migrated to other laboratory areas such as clinical

A-2 SilkWorm 2000 Entry Family Reference vvi SilkWorm 2000 Entry Family ReferenceChapter Overview1The SilkWorm 2000 Entry Family of switches are low cost, high-performance 8-port,gigabit Fibre Channel switches used to interconnect storage devices, hosts, and servers ina Storage Area Network (SAN). The switches offer full non-blocking performance for alleight ports with each port able to deliver 100 MB/s full duplex. Cut-through routingguarantees a maximum latency of 2 microseconds from switch port to switch port.Seven of the eight ports on the SilkWorm 2000 Entry Family switches are fixed short-wave length optical media for interconnecting devices at distances up to 500m. One port isconfigured as a removable GBIC slot providing the flexibility to configure other physicalmedia such as long-wave length optical or copper.Designed as a 1U high device, the switches may be installed in industry standard EIAracks or in a table-top environment. Overall cost of ownership is reduced through the useof high reliability components, continuous monitoring of environmental components (fanstatus and temperature), and a Single Field Replaceable Unit (FRU) design strategy. The SilkWorm 2010 Loop SwitchThe SilkWorm 2010 Loop Switch is configured as a high-speed interconnect for fiber-channel arbitrated loop (FC-AL) environments. As an alternative to hub-based solutions, the SilkWorm 2010 offers a true switching environment that provides enhancedperformance, increased availability through better fault isolation, and investmentprotection through migration to full fabric topologies. The SilkWorm 2010 is suited forlow-end SAN environments with hosts and devices that only support FC-AL, such as NTclusters. By enabling the embedded software with a software license key, the SilkWorm2010 can be upgraded to a 2050 using the already deployed hardware. The SilkWorm 2040 Entry Fabric SwitchThe SilkWorm 2040 provides a low-cost fabric alternative for entry-level SAN environ-ments. It delivers true switch fabric scalable performance in a simple switch topology.Using the SilkWorm 2040, an entry level SAN can be implemented using a single or dualswitch configuration. Each switch can allow one other fabric switch to be connected tothe SAN in addition to storage devices. This provides an additional expansion step toextend fabric configurations before moving to the full fabric design. The SilkWorm 2040 is the dominant configuration for most entry-level SANs. Itsuniqueness allows simple fabric connectivity without the intricacy of a cascaded mesh offabric switches. It provides all of the benefits of a switched environment while keepingthe simplicity of the entry-level SAN configuration. As the SAN connectivityrequirements grow, the SilkWorm 2040 can be upgraded to a SilkWorm 2250 by enablingpreloaded software with a software license key.SilkWorm 2000 Entry Family Reference1-11OverviewThe SilkWorm 2050 Full Fabric SwitchThe SilkWorm 2050 supports all of the functionality of the SilkWorm 2040 model with theaddition of Full Fabric capability. Full Fabric allows the SilkWorm 2050 to be linked orcascaded to other SilkWorm fibre channel switches to build a highly scalable SAN fabriccapable of supporting thousands of attached storage devices. The SilkWorm 2050 supportsF, FL, and E port connections and Distributed Name Server (DNS).1-2SilkWorm 2000 Entry Family ReferenceChapter Setup and Installation2Power SupplyNote:The SilkWorm 2000 Entry Family does not have a power switch. When thepower cord is connected to the switch, the switch is powered on.The SilkWorm 2000 Entry Family switch is ready to go once the unit is plugged in. TheSilkWorm 2000 Entry Family switch meets IEC 61000-4-5 surge voltage requirements.See Appendix A for specific information on power requirements for the SilkWorm 2000Entry Family switch.Figure 2-1SilkWorm 2010/2040/2050 SwitchGBIC ModulesThe switch accommodates up to eight GBIC modules. All interfaces have status lightsvisible from the front panel giving a quick, visual check of the switch port’s status andactivity.GBIC modules supported are the short wavelength (SWL) and long wavelength (LWL)fiber-optics, and Copper (Cu) versions. If your installation requires installing less than eight GBIC modules, the unused portpositions are protected by a metal, spring-loaded door that covers the opening.SilkWorm 2000 Entry Family Reference2-12Setup and InstallationInitialize the SwitchTo initialize the switch:1.Insert the GBICs into the the GBIC ports and connect the Fibre Channel cable to theGBIC. This may be done before or after the switch is initialized.2.Connect the power cord to the AC module of the switch. The switch automaticallyperforms a Power On Self Test (POST). The POST will take approximately 2.5 min-utes.Note:If a switch boot failure occurs, the switch must be taken offline forrepair or replacement. Contact your switch supplier for assistance.3.If the factory set IP address is compatible with your network, connect the Ethernetconnection.Note:The factory set IP address is: 10.77.77.77. The Subnet Mask is:255.255.255.0If the factory set IP address is not compatible with your network, connect the serialport connection, then follow the procedure to set the IP address on page 3.4.Monitor the status indicators for port status, see “Status Indicators” on page4.If a malfunction occurs during POST, specific error messages are written to the systemerror log and can be analyzed via a telnet session when the POST session completes. If themalfunction prohibits the switch from completing the boot process (fatal error), the switchstops the boot process. If the switch does not fully boot, the switch prompt will not bedisplayed when the serial port is connected.Serial Port and Ethernet ConnectionsThe SilkWorm 2000 Entry Family contains serial port and Ethernet connections for initialconfiguration and remote monitoring and testing.Ethernet ConnectionAn Ethernet connection must be established to obtain access to the internal SNMP agentin the switch and local area network. Once the connection is made remote Telnet and Webaccess is made available. To establish an Ethernet connection, connect to an existingEthernet 10/100Base-T local area network (LAN) via the front panel RJ45 connector.Note:Remove shipping plug from the Ethernet port before insertingEthernet cable.Serial Port ConnectionThe SilkWorm 2000 Entry Family has a serial port for initial configuration of the IPaddress. This port may also be used for service purposes. The serial port should not beused during normal operation.Note:Remove the dust cover from the serial port before inserting theserial cable.Note:Do not use the serial port during normal operation or for regularmaintenance. Remove the serial port cable and, using the dustcover supplied with the switch, cover the port during normal opera-tion of the switch.2-2SilkWorm 2000 Entry Family ReferenceSetup and Installation2 To set the IP address on the switch for normal Ethernet access, perform the followinginitial procedure:1.Attach the provided serial cable between the serial port on the switch and an RS-232serial port on your laptop or host computer. The cable is wired with only pins 2, 3 and5 wired straight through.NOTE: If needed, the adapter can be removed to allow for RJ45 serial connection to your host computer.2.Plug in the switch and wait for the power on self test (POST) to complete. POST iscomplete when all LED activity has stopped, this takes approximately 2 minutes. 3.Disable all serial communication programs running on your computer, such as syncprograms for a PDA.4.Run a terminal emulation program such as Hyperterm on NT/W95, or TERM in aUnix environment.5.Configure the terminal for 9600 Baud, 8 Data Bits, No Parity, 1 Stop Bit, and noflow control. Click OK.6.Press <return> to get a prompt.7.If prompted, provide a login and password. The default is login = admin and thepassword = password8.At the prompt, type the command ipAddrSet, then press <return>9.When prompted, provide the IP Address, Subnet mask, and Gateway Address in thestandard IP form of xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.NOTE: For now only edit the Ethernet addresses, not the Fibre Channel address.10.When prompted type y and press <return> to apply the new values.11.Power down the switch and disconnect the serial cable (and adapter, if used). Connectthe switch to a 10/100BaseT Ethernet connection.12.Power up the switch. IP based management (telnet, SNMP or WebTools) can now beaccessed by using the newly defined IP address.13.Record the IP address on the label provided on the switch.Setup and Installation2Status IndicatorsEach port contains an LED that indicates the status for that port. If the switch has had its rubber mounting feet installed, they may need to be removedfor a rack installation. Contact your switch supplier for the optional rack installation kit.Rackmount Safety GuidelinesIn a rackmount installation, follow these safety guidelines:•When installing a switch in a closed or multi-rack assembly, make certain the airtemperature, measured at the front panel, does not exceed 40° C during operation.•Ensure that the airflow available to the switch is at least 300 cfpm.•Verify that the switch installation, both with the slides closed and fully extended, doesnot unbalance the rack or exceed the rack’s mechanical limits.•Verify the supply circuit, line fusing, and wire size are adequate. Refer to the switch’snameplate for its power requirements.•Verify that all equipment installed in the rack has a reliable ground connection. Donot rely on connection to a branch circuit, such as power strips.Route and support the power cord to ensure that the switch moves freely on its slideswithout crimping or damaging the power cord or interfering with other equipment andcabling installed in the rack.2Setup and InstallationChapter3 DiagnosticsThe Silkworm 2010/2040/2050 switch is designed for maintenance-free operation. Itcontains self-diagnostic capabilities that provide switch status, operating statistics, and, inthe case of a failure, aid in isolating the problem.Loopback paths are incorporated into the switch hardware. Internal Fibre Channel portlogic functions and the paths between the interfaces and central memory are verified by aninternal loopback path test within the switch. An external loopback path test that includesthe main board, fixed media, and the GBIC module checks installed fiber cables and portfault isolation in cross-port configurations, requires cables to be looped from one port toanother.Diagnostic TestsBelow are the tests available along with the command to initiate each; they are run fromthe local telnet port. Inspect power cord periodically and, if damaged, have it repaired by an authorized technician. Inspect all moving parts and mounting bolts prior to use. Control handle and power switch must be kept clean, dry and free from oil and grease at all times.!Lubricate the cable occasionally with light oil.!Grease the gears every 6 months. To do this, remove the clutch knob and separate the left and right housing. Use any good quality waterproof grease.AssemblyWiring your Electric WinchYour Winch may be used with temporary or permanent wiringNOTE: Mount the winch prior to completing the wiring.Temporary Wiring1. Lift the rubber seal and plug the POWER CABLE (#39) into the PLUG (#36) on the right side ofthe winch body. This plug is labeled “power.” Route the Power Cable from the winch to your battery, being careful to avoid tangling it in moving equipment, or causing a tripping hazard.2. Connect the Black Clamp Handle of the POWER CABLE (#39) to the frame of your vehicle, establishing a ground connection. Connect the Red Clamp Handle to the Positive (+/Red) terminal of your battery. Note:Be sure you are using a 12V automotive battery or equivalent, in good condition.3. Lift the rubber seal on the left side of winch body. Taking the Remote Control Unit, insert theSocket at the end of the cord into the Plug on the left side of the winch body labeled “Remote Control.”4. Set the remote control aside in a safe place until ready for use.Permanent wiring1. Attach the OVER-CURRENT PROTECTOR (#31) to the Positive (+/Red) terminal of your battery, using the battery terminal clamp bolt.2. Plan a route for the wiring from the point of the vehicle where the winch will be mounted or usedto the battery. This route must be secure, out of the way of moving parts, road debris, or any possibility of being damaged by operation or maintenance of the vehicle. For example, you may wish to route the wires under the vehicle, attaching it to the frame using suitable fasteners. Donot attach the wires to the exhaust system, drive shaft, emergency brake cable, fuel line, or any other components which may create damage to the wiring through heat or motion, or create a fire hazard.3. If you drill through the bumper or any part of the body to route the wires, be sure to install arubber grommet in the hole to prevent fraying of the wires at that point.4. Route the POWER CABLE (#39) from the point the winch will be used to the battery. Followingthe precautions discussed above.5. Remove the Red Clamp handle, and attach the red wire to the OVER-CURRENT PROTECTOR(#31) which is mounted onto the Positive (+/ Red ) terminal of your battery.6. Remove the Black Clamp handle, and attach the black wire to the frame of your vehicle, creatinga secure electrical ground.WARNING:Always connect Red to Red (Positive to Positive) and Black to the vehicle’s frame, making a ground connection, when using battery power from your vehicle.Never continue use of your winch or other accessory until the battery is completely run down. This can permanently damage your battery! You may wish to keep your engine running while using this winch, to continually recharge the battery. However, exercise extreme caution when working around a running vehicle. (See USING YOUR WINCH on page 7 of this manual.)Do not use a dirty, corroded or leaking battery. You may suffer injury from acid burns.Always wear ANSI-approved safety glasses when working around or with a battery.OPERATIONMOUNTING YOUR WINCHYour winch is designed to be mounted temporarily, using the Trailer Hitch Mounting Bracket. However, you may also mount your winch permanently.Permanent Mounting1. Select a mounting site on the bumper of your vehicle, truck bed, boat trailer, or other suitablelocation. NOTE: This winch can generate 2000 lbs. pulling force. Be sure the location you select can withstand this much force. You may need to use steel reinforcement plates, or weld on additional bracing, depending on the desired mounting location.2. Align the winch with the desired location, and mark for drilling the locations of the 4 holes on thebase of the winch.3. Drill these locations on your vehicle.4. Using hardened steel bolts at least 3/8in. in diameter, install your winch to the location.Temporary Mounting1. Attach the three Plate Stud Bolts to the Adapter Plate, as shown, (see Diagram on page 9)usingthe supplied Nuts. Tighten securely.2. Index the heads of the Plate Studs into the keyhole slots on the back of the winch.3. Attach the Winch/Adapter Plate assembly to your trailer hitch, by inserting the trailer hitch ballthrough the shaped hole in the Adapter Plate.WARNING!Keep hands, clothing, hair, and jewelry clear of the drum area and cable when winching.Never use the winch if the cable is frayed, kinked or damaged.Never allow anyone to stand near the cable or in line with the cable behind the winch while it is under power. If the cable should slip or break, it can suddenly whip back toward the winch, causing a hazard for anyone in the area. Always stand well to the side while winching.USING YOUR WINCHCAUTION:Never touch wire rope or hook while operating the winch, or while the rope is under a load.1. Put your vehicle in Neutral. Only use batteries from the same man-ufacturer and which have the same capacity.u Take the batteries out of the measuring tool when you are not using it for a pro-longed period of time. The batteries can corrode and self-discharge during pro-longed storage in the measuring tool.Starting OperationSwitching on/offu Before switching on the measuring tool, ensure that the sensor area (19)is dry. If necessary, use a cloth to dry the measuring tool.u If the measuring tool has been exposed to a significant change in temperature, leave it to adjust to the ambient temperature before switching it on.To switch on the measuring tool, press either the on/off button (8) or the red start button (16).To switch off the measuring tool, press the on/off button (8) again. If no button on the measuring tool is pressed for approx. 5 minutes and the measuring tool is not moved, the measuring tool will automatically switch itself off to preserve bat-tery life. You can change the switch-off time in the main menu (see "Main Menu",page 26).Bosch Power Tools 1 609 92A 7JX | (10.05.2022)18 | EnglishOverview of the measuring modesThe measuring tool has the following measuring modes:–<Object Detection>: For detecting objects in walls, floors and ceilings,–<Leakage Detection>: For detecting leaks,–<Distance Measurement>: For measuring distances. You can change the measuring mode in the main menu (see "Main Menu", page 26). Measuring Mode <Object Detection>How it WorksThe measuring tool checks the substrate of the sensor area. Objects that are different from the material of the wall are detected. If multiple objects are located over each other in the wall, the display will indicate the ob-ject whose surface is nearest to the measuring tool.Detectable objects–Plastic pipes (e.g. water-filled plastic pipes, such as underfloor or wall heating pipes, etc. with a diameter of at least 10 mm, or empty pipes with a diameter of at least20 mm in solid surrounding material)–Electrical cables (regardless of whether live or not)–Three-phase power cables (e.g. to oven)–Low-voltage cables (e.g. doorbell, telephone, network, smart home)–All types of metal pipe, rod or carrier (e.g. steel, copper, aluminium)–Reinforcing steel–Wooden beams–CavitiesSpecial measuring casesUnfavourable conditions fundamentally impair the measuring result:–Multi-layered walls–Empty plastic pipes and wooden beams in cavities and lightweight partition walls–Objects lying at an angle in the wall–Metal surfaces and moist areas; if in a wall, these may be displayed as objects under certain conditions (e.g. high moisture content). Please note that concrete requires several months to dry out completely.–Cavities in a wall; these may be displayed as objects–Proximity to devices that generate strong magnetic or electromagnetic fields, e.g. mo-bile phone base stations or generators1 609 92A 7JX | (10.05.2022)Bosch Power ToolsEnglish | 19 u Before drilling, sawing or routing into walls, refer to other sources of informa-tion to ensure that you eliminate hazards. Since the measuring results can be influ-enced by ambient conditions or the wall material, there may be a hazard even though the indicator does not indicate an object within the sensor range.Change the wall typeAlways set the appropriate wall type for best possible measuring results. To do this, re-peatedly press the left-hand (14) or right-hand arrow button (7) until the required wall type is displayed. Press the red start button (16) to accept the selection. The maximum measuring depth is 8 cm. Any deviations from this value are described in the individual wall types and views.Wall Type <Brick / Universal>The <Brick / Universal> wall type is suitable for most applications in solid masonry or other homogeneous materials. It displays plastic pipes and metal objects as well as elec-trical and other cables. Cavities in masonry or empty plastic pipes with a diameter of less than 2 cm may not be displayed.Wall Type <Concrete>The <Concrete> wall type is suitable for applications in dry concrete. It displays plastic pipes and metal objects as well as electrical and other cables. Empty plastic pipes with a diameter of less than 2 cm may not be displayed. When selecting the wall type, you can additionally set the maximum measuring depth between 8 cm and 20 cm.Wall Type <Drywall>The <Drywall> wall type is suitable for detecting timber joists and metal supports, as well as electrical and other cables in drywalls (wood, plasterboard, etc.). Filled plastic pipes and wooden beams appear identical on the display. Empty plastic pipes are not re-cognised.Wall Type <Panel Heating>The <Panel Heating> wall type is especially suitable for detecting metal, metal-compos-ite and water-filled plastic pipes and electrical cables. Empty plastic pipes are not dis-played.Wall Type <Vertical Coring Brick>The <Vertical Coring Brick> wall type is especially suitable for applications in vertically perforated bricks. Vertically perforated bricks are bricks with many small, mostly ver-tical, cavities. It displays metal objects, electrical and other cables, as well as water-filled plastic pipes. Cavities or empty plastic pipes may not be displayed.Bosch Power Tools 1 609 92A 7JX | (10.05.2022)20 | EnglishWall Type <Horizontal Coring Brick>The <Horizontal Coring Brick> wall type is especially suitable for applications in hori-zontally perforated bricks. Horizontally perforated bricks are bricks with a few, mostly horizontal, cavities. It displays flat lying metal objects, electrical and other cables, as well as water-filled plastic pipes up to a maximum measuring depth of 5 cm. Cavities or empty plastic pipes may not be displayed.Wall Type <Early Age Concrete>The <Early Age Concrete> wall type is especially suitable for applications in concrete which has not yet fully cured and dried. Metal objects are displayed up to a maximum measuring depth of 6 cm. Plastic pipes and cables may not be displayed. A distinction between live and voltage-free conductors is not possible. Please observe that concrete requires several months to cure and dry completely. Change the viewTo change the view, repeatedly press the top (17) or bottom select button (12) until the required view is displayed. Press the red start button (16) to accept the selection.<Spot View>In the <Spot View>, a first measuring result is already displayed without moving the measuring tool over the substrate. It is therefore particularly suitable for measurements in corners or narrow places. The maximum measuring depth is 6 cm. Objects found are displayed with material properties, if available, but without depth information. Whenever possible, you should also move the measuring tool over the substrate inthe <Spot View> to ensure the best possible measurements. Locating plastic pipes and timber joints is particularly limited without moving the measuring tool.1 609 92A 7JX | (10.05.2022)Bosch Power ToolsEnglish | 21 Measuring indicator:If no object is found, only the outer circle will appear on the display and it will light up green. If there is an object nearby, the outer circle will light up red. The closer the measuring tool is to an object, the more the deflection in the measuring indicator (number of circles) will increase. The deflection decreases when the measuring tool moves away from the object.Orientation arrows are displayed if the signal strength is sufficient. To specifically locate the object's centre, move the measuring tool in the direction of the orientation arrows. Above the centre of an object, the measuring indicator will exhibit maximum deflection, and with sufficient signal strength, a centre cross is displayed. The colour coding for the material property is identical to that in the <Object View>.If the orientation arrows or the centre cross are not displayed, an object may neverthe-less be located in the immediate vicinity.<Object View>The <Object View> offers the best possible measuring results and the maximum meas-uring depths. The detected objects are displayed over the measuring path with depth in-formation and, if available, with material properties.Measuring process:–Place the measuring tool on the substrate and move it over the substrate in the direc-tion of travel. The measuring results are shown on the display after a minimum meas-uring path of approx. 10 cm.–Always move the measuring tool in a straight line while applying light pressure over the substrate so that the wheels remain in contact with the wall.Bosch Power Tools 1 609 92A 7JX | (10.05.2022)22 | English–To obtain optimum measuring results, move the measuring tool slowly over the entire area to be checked and observe the measuring results as you move the tool back. The measuring path should be at least 40 cm.–You can start a new measurement at any time by pressing the red start button (16).–If you lift the measuring tool away from the wall during the measuring process, the last measuring result obtained remains on the display. The measurement is restarted when the device is set down or moved. The tool's function allows for reliable detection of the nearest edges of objects that run transverse to the direction of movement of the measuring tool (see figure C). For this reason, always move crosswise over the area to be checked. To locate objects, moving the measuring tool once over the measuring path is sufficient. To identify the exact location of a detected object and to mark the object, move the measuring tool back over the measuring path. The direction of a found object in a wall can be determined by moving along several off-set measuring paths one after another.Measuring indicator:If no object was detected in the sensor range, the dashed lines and the centre line are completely green. If an object was detected under the sensor, it will appear in the sensor range between the two dashed lines of the display. The two dashed lines and the centre line are at least partially red.In the right-hand depth scale, the object depth to the nearest edge of the found object is displayed. The representation of the properties of detected objects in the display can deviate from the actual object properties. In particular, very thin objects appear thicker on the dis-play. Larger, cylindrical objects (e.g. plastic pipes or water pipes) may appear narrower on the display than they actually are.Depending on type and depth of the object, identification of the material is possible. TheInformation on material identification:–For live objects, no further characteristic is displayed.1 609 92A 7JX | (10.05.2022)Bosch Power ToolsEnglish | 23–Three-phase mains wiring may not be detected as live conductors.–At a relative humidity above 50 %, detecting the "live" property may be limited. Marking objects:–If you want to mark a found object on the substrate, move the measuring tool so that the object is centred on the centre line in the display. Use the upper marking aid (1) as well as the left-hand and right-hand marking aid (5) to make a mark on the sub-strate. The centre of the object is located at the intersection point of the drawn mark-ers.–Alternatively, move the measuring tool to the left or right until the found object is centered on one of the two dashed lines in the display. Then it is located under the corresponding outer edge of the measuring tool. Draw a line along this outer edge on the substrate and mark the position of the corresponding lateral marking aid (5) on this line. This is the centre of the object.–The direction of a found object in a wall can be marked by moving along several offset measuring paths one after another and connecting the respective markings.<Signal View 2D>The <Signal View 2D> indicates the signal strength at each measuring point in combina-tion with the object depth. The <Signal View 2D> is a variant of the <Object View>. It displays signal strengths instead of object symbols. The maximum signal strength rep-resents the upper edge of the objects. The <Signal View 2D> can be used to locate closely adjacent objects and to better as-sess complicated material structures. Weaker objects and objects in a row can also be found under certain circumstances.Follow the instructions on the measuring process in <Object View>.Bosch Power Tools 1 609 92A 7JX | (10.05.2022)。

IRON AND STEEL

IRON AND STEEL

1 Gerald Houck, "Iron and Steel," from Mineral Commodity Summaries, U.S. Bureau of Mines, January 1995, p.86.2Ibid.IRON AND STEELmodity SummaryThe iron and steel industry, including primary and secondary producers, is composed of 79 companiesthat produce raw steel at 116 locations. Iron is generally produced from iron ore (taconite) in a primary mineral production process, while steel is produced using both primary and secondary processes. Primary production refers to those op erations whe re the feedsto ck is comp osed of at lea st 50 perc ent ore (or o re that has bee n beneficiated ). Electric arc furnaces use a high percentage of scrap steel as the feedstock in their operations and are therefore classified as secondary production and not considered primary minerals processing. Although the electric arcfurnace process is described in this section, some of the wastes generated from this operation are currently regulated under RC RA Sub title C. Specifica lly, electric arc furna ce dust (K 061) is a listed hazardo us waste. The ann ual aggrega te raw steel pro duction ca pacity is 99 m illion metric tons ; 1993 p roduction is reported to be 87 million metric tons. According to the U.S. Bureau of Mines, the iron and steel producers and ferrous foundries produced goods valued at $55 billion. Currently, pig iron (i.e., molten iron from iron blast furnaces) is produced at 15 com panies op erating integrate d steel mills, with ap proxima tely 58 blast furn aces (of whic h 41 or 42 are incontinuous operation). Integrated companies accounted for approximately 67% of steel production, including output of their electric arc furnaces (which are classified as secondary production).1Pig iron production in 1994 is estimated at 49 million metric tons. Pig iron is sent to either basic oxygenfurnaces or e lectric arc furna ces for further p rocessing at ste el facilities. Basic o xygen furnac es (BO Fs) and ele ctric arc furnaces (EAFs) account for 61 percent and 39 percent of steel production, respectively. Continuously cast steel accounted for 89 percent of steel production. Lastly, open hearth furnaces (OHFs) have been phased out and were not used domestically to produce steel in 1993.2 Exhibit 1 p resents the nam es and loca tions of facilities invo lved in the primary p roduction of iron and ste el.EXHIBIT 1S UMMARY OF P RIMARY I RON AND S TEEL P RODUCERS IN 1989S UMMARY OF P RIMARY I RON AND S TEEL P RODUCERS IN 1989B.1. Discussion of Typical Production ProcessesThe pro duction of ste el produc ts from iron o re involves two separate step s: ironmaking and steelma king. Each of these is described in detail below. Iron blast furnaces prod uce molten iron (pig iron) that can b e cast (molded) into products; however, the majority of pig iron is used as the mineral feedstock for steel production. Steel furnaces produce a molten steel that can be cast, forged, rolled, o r alloyed in the production o f a variety of materials.a Gerald Houck, "Iron and Steel." from Min erals Yea rboo k Volu me 1. Me tals an d M inera ls, U.S. Bureau of Mines, 1992, p. 649.S UMMARY OF P RIMARY I RON AND S TEEL P RODUCERS IN 1989IronmakingOn a tonnage basis, about nine-tenths of all metal consumed in the United States is iron or steel. Iron and steel are used in the manufacture of transportation vehicles, machinery, pipes and tanks, cans and containers, and the construction of large buildings, road way superstructures, and bridge s.3 Accord ing to the U.S. Bureau o f Mines in 1993, steel consumption was divided amongst the following uses: warehouse and steel service centers, 26%; transportation (mainly for automo tive production), 16%; construction 15%, cans and containers, 5%; and other uses, 38%.4Iron is produced either by blast furnaces or by one of seve ral direct reduction proce sses; blast furnaces, however, account for over 98 percent of total domestic iron production.5 The mo dern blast furn ace consists o f a refractory-lined steel shaft in which a charge is co ntinuously add ed to the top through a ga s seal. The c harge con sists primarily of iro n ore, sinter, or pellets; coke; a nd limeston e or dolo mite. Iron and steel scrap m ay be add ed in small amounts. Near the bottom of the furnace, preheated air is blown in. Coke is combusted in the furnace to produce carbon m onoxide which redu ces the iron o re to iron. Silica and alumin a in the ore an d coke as h are fluxed w ith limestone to fo rm a slag that ab sorbs muc h of the sulfur from the charge. M olten iron an d slag are inter mittently tapped from the hearth at the bottom. The slag is drawn off and processed. The product, pig iron, is removed and typically cooled, then transported to a steel mill operation for further processing in either an electric arc furnace or a basic oxyge n furnace, as d epicted in E xhibit 2. As sho wn in Exhib it 2, the iron can also be dire ctly reduced before it is sent for further p rocessing.Recent changes in the process include modifications in the fluxing practices. Flux is often introduced through fluxed sinter or fluxed pellets rather than by direct charging. The use of external desulfurization of hot metals prior to steel making has also increased.63 Gerald Houck, "Iron and Steel," from Mineral Facts and Problems, U.S. Bureau of Mines, 1985, p. 412.4 Gerald H ouck, 1994, Op. T hree majo r furnace type s can be use d for makin g steel:C open hea rth furnaces, no longer used for dome stic steel prod uction; C basic oxygen furnaces, with 62 percent of the total; andC electric arc furn aces, acco unting for the rem aining 38 p ercent. The latter predominantly uses scrap (i.e., non-mineral material) as feedstock and is classified as a secondary process. T he open-h earth proc ess was prev alent in the Un ited States be tween 1908 and 1969, but it is no lo nger in use domestically. The ba sic oxygen process has sup planted it as the predomina nt primary steel-making process, making up approximately 95 percent of domestic primary steel production in 1987.7Modern steelmaking also includes treatment of steel in ladles. This use of ladles (1) improves thecleanliness of the steelmaking process, (2) increases throughput in steel vessels, and (3) allows for shape control of inclusions in continuous casting operation s.82. Generalized Process Flow DiagramA general flo w diagram for the prod uction of raw steel from iron ore is presen ted in Exhib it 2. In general, the process involves (1) beneficiation of the iron ore, (2) either direct-reduction or reduction in an iron blast furnace,(3) processing in steelmaking furnaces, and (4) casting.Ironmaking Beneficiation of the Iron Ore: Sintering, Pelletizing, or BriquettingThere are a variety of beneficiation methods that can be used to prepare iron ores, depending on the ironcontent in the o res. Some ores conta in greater than 60 percen t iron and req uire only crush ing and blen ding toprepare them for further processing. In other cases, operations including screening and concentrating are necessary to prepar e the raw ma terials. The ch aracteristics of the iron-bearing ores vary geo graphically. Sp ecifically, magnetite is the m ain iron-bea ring ore in the L ake Supe rior district and in the northeas tern United States, while hematite and hematite ma gnetite mixtures tend to be fo und in ores in Alabama and the So uthwest. When magnetite occurs in lower grade deposits, the ore is ground, and the concentrate is separatedmagnetically from the gangue with the ore in a water suspension. Ore containing hematite can be high in claycontent and requires washing to remove the clay and concentrate the iron. Low grade ores that can not be separated magnetically may also need to be concentrated via washing, jigging, heavy media separation, or flotation.9Ores that will be sent to blast furnaces for ironmaking need to be permeable to allow for an adequate flowof gas through the system. Additionally, concentrates in raw ores that are very fine need to be agglomerated before they can be used as feed stock for the blast furnaces. The three major processes used for agglomeration include:C sintering;C pelletizing; andC briquetting.Sintering. Sinter ing involves m ixing the iron-b earing mate rial such as ore fines, flue dust, or co ncentratewith fuel (e.g., cok e breeze o r anthracite). 10 The mixture is then spread on surface beds which are ignited by gas burners. T he heating p rocess fuses the fine particles, and the resulting pro duct is lumpy m aterial known as sinter.11 J. Astier, "Present Status of Direct Reduction and Smelting Reduction," from Steel Times, October 1992, pp.453-458.The sinter is sized and the fines are recycled. Sintering operations are used to recycle wastes from other iron and steel manufac turing proce sses.Pelletizing. P elletizing involve s forming pe llets from the raw ore or co ncentrates, then hardening th e pellets by heating. So lid fuel can be combine d with the con centrate to p romote the heating nece ssary to harde n the pellet. Comm on binde rs added to strengthen the pellets include limestone, do lomite, soda ash, benton ite, and orga niccompounds. After the pellets are sized, any remaining fraction of materials are recycled back through the sintering process.Briquetting. Briquetting, a nother form of agglome ration, involve s heating the or e and pre ssing it intobriquettes while the materials are still hot. Once the briquettes are c ooled, they are sent directly to the blast furnaces.Reduction of the Iron OreThere are two basic methods for reducing iron ore:C direct reduction; and Creduction in a blast furnace.Direct Reduction. Direct reduction involves the reduction of iron ore that is in the solid state - at less than 1000 o C.11 The solid primary me tal produc ed by direc t reduction o f iron ores (D RI) can b e used to sup ply electric arc furnaces.Blast Furnace. During ironmaking, agglomerated iron ore is combined with prepared limestone, silica, and coke and placed into a blast furnace. Heated air is blown into the furnace and causes the limestone and silica to form a fluid slag which combines with other impurities. The slag can be separated from the molten iron and sent to a slag reprocessing unit. Generally, the molten iron from the blast furnace is transferred directly to the steelmaking furnaces.12 William S. Kirk, "Iron Ore," from Minera ls Yearbo ok Volu me 1. M etals and M inerals, 1992, p. 618. 13 Association of Iron and Steel Engine ers, The Making, Shaping and Treating of Steel, 1985, pp. 539-652.A number of integrated steelwork facilities in the United States have increased their use o f fluxed pellets, which are more easily reducible. The fluxed pellets are produced by adding limestone (CaCO 3) and/or d olomite[(Ca,Mg)CO 3] to the iron ore concentrate during the balling stage. Flux is added until the ratio of calcium and magnesium oxide to silicon dioxide and aluminum oxide ((CaO+MgO)/(SiO2+Al 2O 3)) in the pellet is ab ove 0.6. The most common ratio documented is approximately 1.0.12Steelmaking Processing in Steelmaking FurnacesThere a re three basic methods o f steel produ ction:C open hearth furnaces (no longer in use domestically);C basic oxygen furnaces; andC electric arc furn aces (seco ndary pro duction).Open Hearth Furnace (no longer used). During the open-hearth process, a relatively shallow bath of metal was heated by a flame that passed over the bath from the burners at one end of the furnace while the hot gasesresulting from combustion we re pulled out the other end. T he heat from the exhaust gas was retained in the exhaust system's brick liners, which were known as checker-brick regenerators. Periodically the direction of the flame was reversed a nd air was d rawn throug h what had b een the exha ust system; the ho t checker-br icks prehea ted the air before it was used for combustion in the furnace. Impurities were oxidized during the process and fluxes formed a slag; this slag was drawn off and processed or discarded.Basic Oxygen Furnace. The basic oxygen process uses a jet of pure oxygen that is injected into the molten metal by a lance of regulated height in a basic refractory-lined converter. Excess carbon, silicon, and other reactive elements are oxidized during the controlled blows, and fluxes are added to form a slag. This slag, one of the RCRA special waste s, is drawn off an d proce ssed or disc arded. The first step in the BOF process is charging the furnace. Hot metal (molten iron from the blast furnace)which accounts for most of the metallic charge is added to the furnace by ladles. Once the furnace has been charged,a water-coo led oxygen lance is lowere d into the furna ce and high purity oxygen is blown in the to p of the furnac e. One modification to this process is the Q-BOP in which the oxygen and other gases are blown in from the bottom of the furnace instead of the top. In the bottom blown process, oxyge n is introduced through a num ber of tuyeres, consisting of two concentric pipes in the bottom of the converter.13EXHIBIT 2I RONMAKING AND S TEELMAKING P ROCESSESGraphic Not Available. In the furnace, oxygen co mbines with the carbon a nd other un wanted elem ents to oxidiz e the impurities in the molten charge, and thereby converting the molten charge to steel. The lime and other fluxes help remove the oxidized impurities as a layer of slag. The refined steel is then poured into ladles. At this point, any alloys can be added to the steel to ob tain the desired strength and c haracteristics re quired in the final produc t.Electric Arc Furnace (secondary production). Electric arc furnaces are generally used for scrap processing and have traditionally been used to produce alloy, stainless, tool, and specialty steels. Scrap steel is the principal metallic charge to electric furnaces. Direct reduction of iron ore also produces pellets with high enough iron content to be used. Limestone and other fluxes are charged after the scrap becomes molten. As in the blast furnace operation, the impurities in the steel form a floating layer of slag that can be poured off. The molten steel is then poured into ladles and sent to be ca st.In all steelmaking operations, gases from the furnace must be cleaned in order to meet air pollution control requirements. Facilities may use dry collection (e.g., bag houses, filters, or electrostatic precipitators) or wet scrubbers or, as is most often practiced, both types of controls. Large volumes of dust and scrubber sludge are collected for either further processing or disposal. Some of these air pollution control residuals are RCRA special wastes. The molten steel, from whichever type of furnace is used, flows into ladles and is sent for further processing at rolling mills to for m the finished p roducts.3. Identification/Discussion of No vel (or otherwise distinct) Process(es)C Dezincing and Deto xification of Ele ctric Arc Fu rnace Stee lmakingD ust via Amm onium Ca rbonateLeaching. The use of ammoniacal ammonium carbonate (AAC) leaching for the treatment of carbon steel making EAF dust has been investigated on a laboratory scale. The tests were performed using dust samples from three European steel companies. The dusts were found to be toxic due to the leachability of silver, mercury, lead, and cadmium. After treatment, the toxicity tests indicated leachates below past and current EPA toxicity threshold limits.14C Recovery of Manganese from Steel Plant Slag by Carbamate Leaching. The U.S. Bureau of Minesinvestigated the feasibility of using ammonium carbamate leaching to recover manganese from steel plant slag. It was found that treatment of the slag with hydrogen prior to the leaching increased the amount ofmanganese recovered. Results indicated that the method cannot be applied satisfactorily to all steelmaking slags.15C Glassification16 of Electric Arc Furnace Dust. A new process has been developed to treat hazardousmaterials, including electric arc furnace dust, slag, and spent refractories. The process, known asGlassification, utilizes electric arc furnace dus t from both th e steel and no nferrous me tals industries toproduce glass pro ducts.17C Treatment of Steel Plant Wastes by Magnetic Cyclones. Steel plants generate sludges containing highconcentrations of iron which display ferromagnetic properties. Methods of treating these wastes to takeadvantage of these properties using magnetic cyclones have been evaluated. The results indicated that the cycloning process creates an underflow with a high solids content and a clean water overflow.1814 R.L. Watson and Suren Mishra, "The Treatment of Steel Plant Wastes by Magnetic Cyclones," Conference Paper from Symposium on Emerging Process Technologies for a Cleaner Environment, Phoenix, AZ, February 24-27 1992.4. Beneficiation/Processing BoundaryEPA established the criteria for determining which wastes arising from the various mineral production sectors come from mineral processing operations and which are from beneficiation activities in the September 1989 final rule (see 54 Fed. Reg. 36592, 36616 codified at 261.4(b)(7)). In essenc e, beneficiatio n operatio ns typically serve to separate and concentrate the mineral values from waste material, remove impurities, or prepare the ore for further refinement. Beneficiation activities generally do not change the mineral values themselves other than by reducing (e.g., crushing or g rinding), or en larging (e.g., pe lletizing or briq uetting) particle size to facilitate processing. A chemical change in the mineral value does not typically occur in beneficiation.Mineral processing operations, in contrast, generally follow beneficiation and serve to change the concentrated mineral value into a more useful chemical form. This is often done by using heat (e.g., smelting) or chemical reactions (e.g., acid digestion, chlo rination) to change the chemica l composition of the mineral. In con trast to beneficiation operations, processing activities often destroy the physical and chemical structure of the incoming ore or mineral feedstock such that the materials leaving the operation do not closely resemble those that entered the operation. Typically, beneficiation wastes are earthen in character, whereas mineral processing wastes are derived from melting or chemical cha nges.EPA approached the problem of determining which operations are beneficiation and which (if any) are processing in a step-wise fashion, beginning with relatively straightforward questions and proceeding into more detailed ex amination o f unit operatio ns, as necessa ry. To loca te the beneficia tion/proce ssing "line" at a given facility within this mineral commodity sector, EPA reviewed the detailed process flow diagram(s), as well as information on ore type(s), the functional importance of each step in the production sequence, and waste generation points and quantities presented above in this section.EPA determined that for this specific mineral commodity sector, the beneficiation/processing line occurs between agglomeration (sintering, pelletizing, and briquetting) and reduction of iron ore in a blast furnace. EPA identified this po int in the proce ss sequence as where be neficiation end s and miner al processin g begins be cause it is here where a significant chem ical change to the iron ore o ccurs. The refore, bec ause EP A has dete rmined that a ll operations following the initial "processing" step in the production sequence are also considered processing operations, irrespective of whether they involve only techniques otherwise defined as beneficiation, all solid wastes arising from any such operation(s) after the initial mineral processing operation are considered mineral processing wastes, rather than beneficiation wastes. EPA presents the mineral processing waste streams generated after the beneficiation/processing line in section C.2, alo ng with associated information on w aste generation rates, characteristics, and managem ent practices for each of these waste stream s.C.Process Waste Streams1.Extraction/Beneficiation WastesWaste characterization data, waste generation data, and waste management data are not available for all of the wastes iden tified as genera ted from the produc tion of iron an d steel.Tailings. Wastes from magnetic separation include tailings consisting mostly of silicate rock. Themagnetite ore from lower grade deposits is ground, and the concentrate is separated magnetically from the gangue with the ore in a water suspension. These wa stes are typically m anaged in ta iling impoun dments.Wastew ater and W aste Solids. O re containing hematite can be high in clay c ontent and require was hing to remove the clay and concentrate the iron. The wastewater and waste solids generated from washing orescontaining clay are not expected to be hazardous. No information is available on management practices for these wastes.192.Mineral Processing WastesFerrous metal prod uction operations genera te four RCRA sp ecial mineral processing wastes: iron blast furnace slag, iron blast furnace air pollution control dust/sludge, steel furnace slag, and steel furnace air pollution control dust/sludge. The Agency did not evaluate the four RCRA special mineral processing wastes further. Besides these RCRA special wastes, the only other types of wastes generated appear to be various types of wastewater, including cooling water, wash water, and scrubber water.19 U.S. Env ironmenta l Protection Agency, 1988, Op. Cit., p. 3-128.Iron Blast Furnace Slag. In 1988, iron blast furnace slag was reported as generated at 26 of the 28 ferrous metal prod uction facilities in the U nited States sur veyed by the U.S. Env ironmenta l Protection Agency in1989 -- all 24 integrated iron/steel facilities and two additio nal blast furnac e operatio ns.Blast furnace slag contains oxides of silicon, aluminum, calcium, and magnesium, along with other traceelements. There are three types of blast furnace slag: air-cooled, granulated, and expanded. Air cooledslag comprises approximately ninety percent of all blast furnace slag produced. The physical characteristics of the slags are in large part de termined b y the method s used to co ol the molten slag. In the surveys, allfacilities characterized their slags as solid, though slag is molten at the point of generation.20The prim ary manage ment prac tice for iron bla st furnace slag is p rocessing (e.g., crushing, sizing) and salefor use as agg regate. In 1990, only on e facility dispose d its slag in an ad jacent water body in or der to build up a land area that was intended for use managing other waste materials as part of an Army Corp ofEngineers approv ed fill projec t.21Iron Blast Furnace Air Pollution Control (APC) Dust/Sludge. In 1988, iron blast furnace APC dust/sludge was genera ted at 26 o f the 28 ferro us metal facilities in the United Sta tes submitting sur veys, including a ll24 integrated iron/steel facilities and the two additional b last furnace operations.Air pollution control (APC) devices treat the top gases emitted from iron blast furnaces. The air pollution control devices generate either dusts or sludges. APC dust/sludge is composed primarily of iron, calcium, silicon, magnesium, manganese, and aluminum.22The two primary waste management practices at the iron facilities regarding APC dust/sludge are disposal in on-site units and the return of the material to the produc tion process via the sinter plant opera tion or blast furnace.23Steel Furnace Slag. In 1988, steel furnace slag was generated at 26 of the 28 ferrous facilities in the United States that submitted surveys, including all 24 integrated iron/steel facilities and the two additional steelproduc tion opera tions. Steel slag is co mposed primarily of ca lcium silicates and ferrites comb ined withfused oxides of iron, aluminum, manganese, calcium, and magnesium. At the point of generation, the slag is in a molten for m. The m olten slag is air co oled and is broken into varying sizes on ce proce ssing (e.g.,crushing) begins.24The prim ary manage ment prac tice for steel slag is p rocessing (e.g., granulating, cru shing, sizing) and salefor use as aggregate, though several facilities dispose or stockpile their steel slag.Steel Furnace Air Pollution Control (APC) Dust/Sludge. Steel furnace APC dust/sludge was generated at26 of the 28 domestic ferrous metal production facilities surveyed in 1989, including all 24 integratediron/steel facilities and the two add itional steel pro duction facilities. S teel APC dust/sludge c onsists mostly of iron, with smaller amounts of silicon, calcium, and o ther metals.Waste management practices were reported for only ten of the 26 facilities in 1989. Eight of the tenreportedly dispose the APC dust/sludge on-site; the remaining two return the material to the productionprocess via the sinter plant o peration.Wastewater. Wastewater is generated from a number of sources during both the ironmaking and thesteelmaking processes. In addition to process wastewaters, wastewater streams also are generated fromnon-contact operation s (i.e., cooling tower water, cooling tower blo wdown) and from non-processoperations including maintenance and utility requirements. However, the primary source of wastewater20 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, "Chapter 8," from Report to Congress on Special Wastes from Mineral Processing, Vol II, Office of Solid W aste, July 1990.21 Ibid.22 Ibid.23 Ibid.24Ibid.from ironmaking is water used for the cleaning and cooling of gases. Most plants either recirculate orrecycle their co oling proc ess wastewate r to reduce the total polluta nt load disch arged from their facilities. The was tewaters from the blast furnac e process contain susp ended p articulate matte r and cyanid e, phenol, and ammonia. All of these pollutants are limited by NPDES perm it requirements. Other wastewaterscontain toxic metals (predominantly zinc) and organic pollutants which come from the raw materials orform during the reductio n process. Many of the pollutants in the process wastewaters are the result of compounds found in the charges andfluxes added to the furnace. In both iron and ferromanganese blast furnaces operations, ammonia is present in the exit gases and as a result is also present in the process wastewater. The ammonia is formed from the various nitrog en comp ounds that a re remov ed from the coke char ge during b last furnace op erations.Fluoride is also present in the wastewater as a result of fluoride compounds, primarily calcium chloridefrom the limestone flux. Manganese is present in wastewaters from ferromanganese production and other elements ma y be presen t depend ing on the var ious ores an d alloys used in produc tion. Lastly, cyanid e isgenerated as a result of the reaction of nitrogen, in the blast air, with carbon from the coke charge in thereducing atmosphere of the blast furnace.Existing data and engineering judgment suggest that this material does not exhibit any characteristics ofhazardous waste. Therefore, the Agency did not evaluate this material further.D.Ancillary Hazardous WastesAncillary hazardous wastes may be generated at on-site laboratories, and may include used chemicals and liquid samples. Other hazardous wastes may include spent solvents (e.g., petroleum naphtha), acidic tank cleaning wastes, and polychlorinated biphenyls from electrical transformers and capacitors. Non-hazardous wastes may include tires from trucks and large machinery, sanitary sewage, and some waste oil and other lubricants. Other ancillary wastes associated with the coke making process, stainless steel production, and the spent pickling liquors resulting from ste el finishing at some integrated stee l mills are curren tly classified as listed an d/or chara cteristic wastes and re gulated und er RCR A Subtitle C requireme nts.。

MATERIAL STANDARDS1. Introduction1.1 ObjectiveTo provide a uniform material standard that covers all ductile cast iron used in AGCO complete machines, attachments, accessories and implements. It facilitates global part sourcing by providing a single AGCO material specification. It ensures that continuous component quality and integrity is maintained.1.2 ScopeThis standard applies to all ductile iron material purchased after the standard’s effective date. Ductile iron grades previously used by all AGCO Companies were specified by standards identified in Annex C. This new uniform standard is intended to replace the previously used standards. This standard describes five different grades of ductile cast iron, D250, D300, D360, D420 and D480. These grades include one that was specifically developed for applications where local hardening is required, D420. Grade designations are based on the combination of three factors: mechanical properties, hardness and microstructure of the cast product.Standard grades are specified with the prefix “D”; structural grades with prefix “DX”. Structural grades differ only in that they are more tightly controlled and are required to meet, in serial production, the parameters (mechanical properties, microstructure, chemical composition and heat treatment) of the originally qualified casting.1.3 Reference Documents - None1.4 Definitions∙ Ductile Iron – a ferrous based material containing free graphite in spheroidal form characterized by a wide range of mechanical properties. It is a moderate to high strength material with medium impact resistance (toughness).∙Grade Specification - the grade of material shall be specified by use of this standard number followed by the specific grade required, i.e., AGCO GMS0010002 Grade D300. If a specific grade of ductile iron is not listed on the Engineering Drawing, or if there are any other questions with regard to the requirements, the supplier shall contact the ordering facility and request that the engineering drawing be corrected. Other additional suffix letters that may be used are N and QT, as described in Section 2.5 of this standard.∙Structural Grades – Casting grades designated by prefix “DX” (i.e. AGCO GSM0010002 Grade DX360) are structural grades. “DX ” castings are subject to engineering qualification that may include dynamic and/or structural testing. Alloy content of “DX ” castings shall be controlled within limits subject to agreement and based upon the composition of the qualified product. No process or product changes are permitted on “DX ” castings (any casting grade for that matter) withoutMATERIAL STANDARDSengineering approval. Structural castings shall be purchased only from approved suppliers, based upon the quality approval process of the ordering AGCO facility.2. Technical Requirements2.1 GeneralAll castings shall be marked (i.e. characters cast-on) with the appropriate AGCO part number, foundry identification, pattern number and either the date of manufacture or the heat number of the melt. For very small castings where cast-on marking is impractical, the ordering facility should agree on alternative arrangements that facilitate, as far as practical, means of batch traceability of components. These markings should be either indented or raised (raised is preferred – letters “I”, “O” and “X” are not utilized). Location of these markings shall be such that they are not removed by subsequent machining operations and must be identified on the drawings. Machine fixture locations along with special tolerance requirements involved and machine clamping points shall also be shown on the drawing. Other information that should be shown on the casting drawing is:Casting parting lineArea(s) where local hardening is to take place Draft anglesLocation of in-gates, feeders, runners, risers, etc Fettling and dressing requirements Shot blast surface finish requirement Prime paint requirementLocation of test specimenIt is recommended that, where possible, casting drawings be supplied to the foundry with as cast dimensions, tolerances and other information relevant to the as cast piece be included. The foundry would then sign off the casting drawing or request amendments .Alternatively, the foundry could be requested to create a casting drawing from the finish machined component drawing which would be presented to the AGCO machining source for approval. The AGCO machining source would sign off this casting drawing as acceptable or seek amendments prior to the start of production.MATERIAL STANDARDS2.2 Mechanical PropertiesTable 1. Mechanical Properties (Minimum Values Unless Otherwise Specified)Mechanical properties shall apply to the cast product based on a test specimen cut from the casting. Specimens shall be machined from areas specified on the engineering drawing and in accordance with the requirements of Annex A.For foundry process control purposes, mechanical properties shall be measured from separately cast test specimens per Annex B. These specimens shall be poured at approximately the same time and under conditions similar to that of the production castings.MATERIAL STANDARDSHardness of the casting shall be measured at the surface after suitable metal removal, 1.5 mm (0.06 inches) minimum, and at a location specified on the engineering drawing. If no location for testing is specified, the location of test shall be at the option of the receiving facility, unless otherwise agreed. Core hardness of the casting shall not deviate from the measured surface hardness by more than 30 points HBW.2.3 MicrostructureTable 2. MicrostructureMicrostructure requirements defined in Table 2 pertain to areas of the casting away from the cast rim or areas near the riser or gate contact. Cope side surfaces should be avoided when evaluating the overall microstructure.Regarding nodularity, the spheroidal graphite component of the microstructure shall consist of at least 85% graphite spheroids conforming to Type I and II of ASTM A 247.Matrix microstructure of grade D250 shall range from totally ferritic to a combination of ferrite with pearlite that does not cause the hardness to be above the specified upper limit. Grades D300 and D360 shall contain combinations of ferrite and pearlite. Grade D420 shall contain a minimum of 70 percent pearlite for local hardening. Grade D480 shall contain less than 5 percent ferrite and may be produced with a pearlitic matrix microstructure or a tempered martensite matrix microstructure. Carbides are undesirable and shall be kept to less than 2 percent by volume (measurements to be conducted with a photomicrograph with the percentage measured within any field of view).2.4 Chemical CompositionThe composition limits of Table 3 apply to all grades of ductile iron.MATERIAL STANDARDSTable 3. Chemical Composition (Weight Percent)Typical ranges of other elements are: 3.2 to 4.1 weight percent carbon; 1.8 to 3.0 weight percent silicon; and 0.02 to 0.06 weight percent magnesium (if magnesium is used for inoculation).Elements that are not carbide stabilizers are preferred for use in stabilizing pearlite in grades D360 through D480. Preferred alloying elements are copper, tin and nickel.Alloying elements and the ranges used shall be subject to agreement at the time of sample approval for all DX grades.2.5 Heat TreatmentTable 4. Heat TreatmentGrade D250 may be provided in the as-cast or annealed condition. Grades D300 through DX420 shall be produced in the as-cast condition without subsequent heat treatment. When heat treatment is required for stress relief purposes, it shall be specified as stress relieved on the engineering drawing along with the required stress relieving temperature. If salvage heat treatment is required in order to achieve the specified tensile strength and hardness, engineering deviation approval is required. Grade D480 may be produced as-cast, normalized or quenched and tempered at the producer’s option, unless otherwise specified. A heat-treating process may be specified by use of the following suffix letters: D480-N, for normalized; D480-QT, for the quenched and tempered product.MATERIAL STANDARDS2.6 Quality2.6.1 Castings shall conform to the engineering drawing as supplied by the ordering facility, unless otherwise agreed or specified. The removal of gates and riser contacts shall not produce projections or depressions beyond the normal design contour, except as approved by the ordering facility. Cast eyebrows and flats around bolt hole locations shall be flat and free of excess metal.2.6.2 Castings shall be mechanically cleaned to remove all adherent sand, scabs and scale. Fins shall be ground off on all external surfaces and shall not exceed 1.5 mm (0.06 inches) in height on internal surfaces. Internal surfaces shall be free of all material that may loosen during subsequent use of the component in the finished assembly.2.6.3 Castings are subject to inspection for internal soundness. Whether this testing is conducted by radiographic or ultrasonic testing methods, or by sectioning for inspection of cut surfaces is at the option of the receiving facility. In general castings are required to be sound and free from internal shrinkage porosity; however, shrinkage porosity in heavy non-critical locations can be permitted if approved by the responsible product engineering department. Shrinkage porosity when allowed in non-critical locations is not permitted to extend from the interior to the cast and/or machined surfaces.2.6.4 Casting soundness shall be sufficient to prevent leakage through the cross section of fluids that are contained within the assemblies where these castings are used.2.6.5 Linear defects such as cracks and hot tears are not permissible. All castings are subject to inspection for these defects and inspection methods that may be used to detect the defects include magnetic particle, dye penetrant, visual and other methods.2.6.6 Generally, welding is not permitted for repair of casting defects. Salvage repair of cosmetic defects can be permitted in non-structural areas or in non-structural castings if specified either on the engineering drawing or by written approval of the controlling product engineering group. Under no circumstances may organic fillers (e.g. polyester or epoxy) be used to repair cosmetic defects.3. First Article Approval RequirementCastings shall be subject to the approval of the ordering facility based on the currently accepted AGCO Initial Sample Inspection Report practice for the ordering facility. Continuing acceptance or rejection will be based on the conformance to the engineering drawing (or signed-off casting drawing), material specifications and other items of agreement between the ordering facility, Product Engineering and the supplier as stated in the Purchase Order. Suppliers should clarify with the ordering AGCO plant location if there is any requirement to pre-machine location pads both for the initial machining sample and ongoing supply.Structural castings (i.e. AGCO GSM001002 Grade DX360) shall be subject to engineering qualification that may include dynamic and/or other structural testing.4. Continuing Quality Control RequirementsCertified reports of mechanical property test results, microstructural examination and chemical compositionMATERIAL STANDARDSaccording to the agreement between the supplier and the ordering facility. They shall indicate the range of test results obtained for that period, unless otherwise specified or required by the ordering facility. These reports may summarize the monthly activity of the foundry by listing the part numbers and quantity of parts produced.Dimensional: If a supplier plans to use a casting checking fixture for routine inspection of production castings, he should identify the frequency of calibration of the fixture(s). Also, the supplier should produce, prior to volume production, an approved master sample casting for which a full three-axis CMM inspection report exists.5. RecordsEach foundry supplier shall retain records of chemical composition and mechanical property test results and shall be able to show or supply those records upon request for a minimum of 3 years. The supplier shall also be able to furnish test bars upon request from the approximate time the castings were made, for a minimum period of up to 6 months (test bar storage should be negotiated between Purchasing and the supplier due to the necessary structure to store a big quantity of test bars).6. Attachments∙ Annex A – Test Bars Machined from Castings∙ Annex B – Separately Cast Test Specimen∙ Annex C – Previously Used StandardsMATERIAL STANDARDS7. Document Control8. Leadership / ApproversDocument approvals shall be solicited from the Senior Vice-President of Engineering and his direct reports, as he directs, along with other affected departments and functions. Refer to GOP0010002, Creation and Approval of Global Documents, for the document approval procedure.MATERIAL STANDARDSANNEX A – Test Bars Machined from CastingsTest bars machined from castings shall be located in the cross section as near the surface of the casting as possible. In keeping with this requirement the centerline of the test specimen should be located less than 0.25 X the section thickness from the cast surface.Preferred sizes for the tensile test bars are listed as a function of the casting section thickness as shown below. Alternative sizes may be used if approved by Product Engineering.Test specimens may be located on the centerline of the cast section when the section thickness does not exceed two times the gage diameter of the machined test bar.Test specimens that have shrinkage porosity or any casting defect in the test gage length shall not be used. However, such porosity or defects shall be judged on the basis of the effect on part and/or function of the casting.Note: For a given casting, mechanical properties measured with the use of test bars cut from the casting may be somewhat lower than those measured from separately cast test specimens.MATERIAL STANDARDSANNEX B – Separately Cast Test SpecimensThe separately cast test specimens from which the tensile bars are machined shall be cast in molds that yield standard Y or Keel blocks (Figures 1 and 2). These molds shall be made from a suitable core sand and have a minimum wall thickness of 40 mm (1½ inches). The castings shall be cooled in the mold to a black color, approximately 480°C (900°F). Length of the Keel and Y block specimens shall be approximately 150 to 175 mm (6 to 7 inches).Figure 1. Y Block Figure 2.
