It was a drugstore. While Europeans were served at the counter, a long line of Africans queued at the window and often not only were kept waiting, but when their turn came to be served, were rudely treated by the shop assistants. One day I was determined to make a public protest against this kind of thing, and many of the schoolboys in my class followed me to the store and waited outside to see what would happen when I went in.I simply went into the shop and asked the manager politely for some medicine. As soon as he saw me standing in the place where only European customers were allowed to stand, he shouted at me in a bastard language that is only used by an employer when speaking to his servants.I stood at the counter and politely requested in English that I should be served. The manager became exasperated and said to me in English, "Even though you stand there till Christmas I will never serve you."I went to the District commissioner's office. Fortunately the District Commissioner was out, for he was one of the old schools; however, I saw a young District Officer who was a friend of mine. He was very concerned to hear my story and told me that if ever I wanted anything more from the drugstore, all I had to do was come to him personally and he would buy my medicine for me. I protested that that was not good enough. I asked him to accompany me back to the store and to make a protest to the manager. This he did, and I well remember him saying tothe manager, "Here is Mr. Kaunda who is a responsible member of the Urban Advisory Council, and you treat him like a common servant. "The manager of the drugstore apologized and said, "If only he had introduced himself and explained who he was, then, of course I should have given him proper service. "I had to explain once again that he had missed my point. Why should I have to introduce myself every time I went into a store? I want to prove that any man of any color, whatever his position, should have the right to go into any shop and buy what he wanted. Why didn't the writer wait at the window of the drugstore like other black African?→ ←A. Because he thought he was educated and should be treated differently.B. Mobile of rice has become a solution that provides users with convenient, prompt, safe, reliable, and reasonably priced communications and office faculty anywhere anytime via the support of mobile interconnection platform(MIP)and its applications systems. When you leave your office to attend meetings or travel on business, what would happen to your business routine? Of course, faxes and e-mails would be still sent to your fax machine or e-mail box, but you can't read them and make prompt reaction timely. When your clients need you to make some urgent modifications on your work and you are neither in the office nor carrying relevant documents, what can you do? Today, unexpected numbers of young adults are living with their parents, "there is a major shift in the middle class," declares sociologist Allan Schnaiberg of Northwestern University, whose son, 19, moved back in after an absence of eight months.Analysts cite a variety of reasons for this return to the nest. The marriage age is rising, a condition that makes home and its pleasantness particularly attractive to young people.A high divorce rate and a declining remarriage rate are sending economically pressed and emotionally hurt survivors back to parental shelters. For some, the expense of anaway-from-home college education has become so excessively great that many students now attend local schools. Even after graduation, young people find their wings clipped by skyrocketing housing costs.Living at home, says Knighton, a school teacher, continues to give her security and moral support. Her mother agreed, "Its ridiculous for the kids to pay all that money for rent. It makes sense for kids to stay at home. " But sharing the family home requires adjustments for all. There are the hassles over bathrooms, telephones and privacy. Some families, however, manage the delicate balancing act. But for others, it proves too difficult. Michelle Del Turco,24, has been home three times and left three times. "What I considered a social drink, my dad considered an alcohol problem," she explains. "He never liked anyone I dated, so I either had to hide away or meet them at friends house.Just how long should adult children live with their parents before moving on? Mostpsychologists feel lengthy home comings are a mistake. Children, struggling to establish separate identities, can end up with "a sense of inadequacy, defeat and failure." And aging parents, who should be enjoying some financial and personal freedom, find themselves stuck with responsibilities. Many agree that brief visits, however, can work beneficially. One of the disadvantages of young adults returning to stay with their parents isthat→←.A. there will inevitably be inconveniences in every day lifeB. most parents find it difficult to keep a bigger family goingC. the young adults tend to be overprotected by their parentsD. public opinion is against young adults staying with their parents9.(单项选择题)(每题 2.00 分) Polyester (聚酯)is now being used for bottles. ICI, the chemicals and plastics company, believes that it is now beginning to break the grip of glass on the bottle business and thus take advantage of this huge market. All the plastics manufacturers have been experiencing hard times as their traditional products have been doing badly world-wide for the last few years. Between 1982 and 1984 the Plastics Division of ICI had lost a hundred and twenty million dollars, and they felt that the most hopeful new market was in packaging, bottles and cans.Since 1982 it has opened three new factories producing "Melinar", the raw material from which high quality polyester bottles are made. The polyester bottle was born in the 1970s, when soft drinks companies like Coca Cola started selling their drinks in giant two-liter containers. Because of the build-up of the pressure of gas in these large containers, glass was unsuitable. Nor was PVC, the plastic which had been used for bottles since the 1960s, suitable for drinks with gas in them, A new plastic had to be made.Glass is still cheaper for the smaller bottles, and will continue to be so unless oil and plastic become much cheaper, but plastic does well for the larger sizes.Polyester bottles are virtually unbreakable. The manufacturers claim they are also lighter, less noisy when being handled, and can be reused. Shopkeepers and other business people are unlikely to object to a change from glass to polyester, since these bottles mean few breakages, which are costly and time-consuming. The public, though, have been more difficult to persuade. ICIs commercial department is developing different bottles with interesting shapes, to try and make them visually more attractive to the public. The next step could be to develop a plastic which could replace tins for food. The problem here is the high temperatures necessary for cooking the food in the container. Why aren’t all bottles now made of polyester?_→←A. The price of oil and plastic has risen.B. It is not suitable for containing gassy drinks.C. The public like traditional glass bottles.D. Shop-keepers dislike reusable bottles.10.(单项选择题)(每题 2.00 分) The mode of operation in passing laws in the U. S. And yet it is central to a lasting, satisfying marriage. What is this thing called respect? It is not the same as admiration. "When you fall in love, you admire the other, "says Dr. Alexandra Symonds, associate clinical professor of psychiatryat the New York University, School of Medicine.” You look up to someone-much the way a child idealizes a parent.”Such romantic admiration thrives and even depends on the illusion that he or she is "perfect for you.95 Thafs why it doesnt last. "You come to see that the person you married isnt exactly what you expected.", says Francine Klagsbrun. "There are differences of personality, of approaches to life, different ways of doing things. ”You can try to change your mate back into your fantasy. But for the marriage to last and grow its better to →agree to disagree←, to learn to let each other be. Only by taking this path can you begin to develop real respect toward each other.“I have one patient whose husband loves sports, especially tennis,”says Dr. Symonds.” She would prefer to go to the theatre, or to stay at home and read. She could simply say, ‘We have different tastes.’ Instead, she says, How can he waste his time and money that way? She puts him down."The put-down is the chief symptom and weapon of lack of respect or contempt. "Contempt is the wors t kind of emotion.” says Symonds. "You feel the other person has no worth.’ We’ve all seen marriages in which one or both partners attack the other quite savagely in the guise of Its for your own good. Any "good" is→ undone ←by the hostile tone. A wife nag s her husband to be more ambitious and makes him feel like a failure because he prefers craftsman- ship or community projects to the competitive business world. Or a husband accuses his wife of wasting time whenever she gets together with a friend. "Why isnt she doing something productive?"In good marriage partners nurture each others self-esteem. They may express humorous incomprehension of one anothers preferences, but they never make the other person feel like an idiot. "Martyrs idea of a vacation is to go down to the basement on a sunny day and spend time woodworking, "says Dr. Alexandra Symonds of her husband, psychiatrist and surgeon Martin Symond. But theres fondness in the gibes and firm support for the others right to be himself. Respect is expressed in words like. ul dont want to go to the concert, but you have a great And occasionally, "Sure, III come with you. Just dont him angry if I fall asleep. " Respect, then is appreciation of the separateness of the other person, of the ways in which he or she is unique. These things take time to discover and accept.Thats the paradox of a good marriage: only by respecting each other as you are do you open the door to change. The root meaning of the word respect is "to look at". Respect is a clear yet loving eye. It sees what is really there, but it also sees what is potentially there and helps bring it to fruition. Respect is the art of love by which married couples honor what is unique and best in each other. The underlined word "undone" in Paragraph 7 suggests that_____.A. what you said reversed what you meantB. what you said was not what you meantC. what you said meant nothing to your partnerD. what you said failed to touch the heart of your partner17.(单项选择题)(每题 2.00 分) It is believed that the feeding patterns parents→ ←on their children can determine their adolescent and adult eating habits.A. compelB. imposeC. evokeD. necessitate18.(单项选择题)(每题 2.00 分) —Do you know if Linda is willing to take charge of the program?—→ ←, does it?A. Pruning involves the cutting away of overgrown and unwanted branches, and the inexperienced gardener can be encouraged by the thought that more damage results from doing it unnecessarily than from leaving the tree to grow in its own way.First, pruning may be done to make sure that trees have a desired shape or size. The object may be to get a tree of the right height, and at the same time to help the growth of small side branches which will thicken its appearance or give it a special shape. Secondly, pruning may be done to make the tree healthier. You may cut diseased or dead wood, or branches that are rubbing against each other and thus cause wounds. The health of a tree may be encouraged by removing branches that are blocking up the centre and so preventing the free movement of air.One result of pruning is that an open wound is left on the tree and this provides an easy entry for disease, but it is a wound that will heal. Often there is a race between the healing and the disease as to whether the tree will live or die, so that there is a period when the tree is at risk. It should be the aim of every gardener to reduce which has been pruned smooth and clean, for healing will be slowed down by roughness. You should allow the cut surface to dry for a few hurts and then paint it with one of the substances available from gardenshops produced especially for this purpose. Pruning is usually without interference fromthe leaves and also it is very unlikely that the cuts you make will bleed If this does happen,it is, of course, impossible to paint them properly. Pruning should be done to→ ←.A. make the tree grow tallerB. improve the shape of the treeC. get rid of the small branchesD. make the small branches thicker22.(单项选择题)(每题 2.00 分) Recent research has claimed that an excess of positive ionsin the air can have an ill effect on peopled physical or psychological health. What are positive ions? Well, the air is full of ions, electrically charged particles, and generallythere is a rough balance between the positive and the negative charged. But sometimes this balance becomes disturbed and a larger proportion of positive ions are found. This happens naturally before thunderstorm, earthquakes when winds such as the Mistral, Hamsin or Sharavare blowing in certain countries. Or it can be caused by a build-up of static electricity indoors from carpets or clothing made of man-made fibers, or from TV sets, duplicators or computer display screens. When a large number of positive ions are present in the air, many people experience un- pleasant effects such as headaches, fatigue, irritability, and some particularly sensitive people suffer nausea or even mental disturbance. Animals are also affected, particularly before earth- quakes snakes have been observed to come out of hibernation, rats to flee fromtheir burrows, dogs howl and cats jump about unaccountably. This has led the US Geographical Survey to fund a network of volunteers to watch animals in an effort to foresee such disasters before they hit vulnerable areas such as California.Conversely, when large numbers of negative ions are present, then people have a feeling ofwell-being. Natural conditions that produce these large amounts are near the sea, close to waterfalls or fountains, or in any place where water is sprayed, or forms a spray. This probably accounts for the beneficial effect of a holiday by the sea, or in the mountainswith tumbling streams or waterfalls. To increase the supply of negative ions indoors, some scientists recommend the use of ionizers: small portable machines, which generate negative ions. They claim that ionizers not onlydean and refresh the air but also improve the health of people sensitive to excess positive ions. Of course, there are the detractors, other scientists, who dismiss such claims andare skeptical about negative/positive ion research. Therefore, people can only make up theirown minds by observing the effects on themselves, or on others, of a negative rich or poor environment. After all it is debatable whether depending on seismic readings to anticipate earthquakes is more effective than watching the cat. Some scientists believe that→ ←.A. watching animals to anticipate earthquakes is more effective than depending on seismographyB. the unusual behavior of animals cannot be trustedC. neither watching nor using seismographs is reliableD. earthquake is destructive23.(单项选择题)(每题 2.00 分) Which of the following best describes first language acquisition?→ ←A. Yet something seemed different that day when I entered it for the first time. My job was to make classroom visits and encourage implementing a training program focusing on language arts, ideas that would empower students to feel good about them and take charge of their lives. Donna was one of the volunteer teachers in this project.I sat in the back and watched. All the students were working on the task, filling their notebook paper with thoughts and ideas. A student next to me was filling her page with "I can’t kick the soccer ball." I can’t do long division with more than three numerals." He r page was half full and she showed no signs of letting up. I walked down the row glancing at students papers. Everyone was writing down things they couldnt do.By this time the activity engaged my curiosity. I decided to check with the teacher to see what was going on but I noticed she too was busy writing "I cant get Johns mother to come for a teacher conference." "I cant get my daughter to put gas in the car," "I cant..."Curious and puzzled about what they were doing, I returned to my seat and continued my observations.Students wrote for another ten minutes. They were then instructed to fold the papers in half and bring them to the front. They placed their "I Can’t”statements into all empty shoe boxes. Then Donna added hers. She put the lid on the box, tucked it under her arm and headed out the door and down the hail.Students followed her. I followed the students. Half way down the hall way, Donna entered the custodians room, came out with a shovel, and marched the students out to the farthest comer of the playground. There they began to dig. They were going to bury their "I Cant’s"The digging took over then minutes with dirt. Students stood around the freshly dug grave. At this point Donna announced, "Boys and girls, please join hands and bow your heads." They quickly formed a circle around the grave. They lowered their heads and waited. Donna delivered the eulogy. "Friends, we gathered here today to honor the memory of I Cant. While he was with us on earth, he touched the lives of everyone, some more than others. We have provided I Cant with a final resting place and a headstone that contains his epitaph. He is survived by his brothers and sisters, I Cant, I Will, and Im going to right away. They are not as well known as their famous relative and are certainly not as strong and powerful. Perhaps some day, with your help, they will make an even bigger mark on the world. 英语口语话题-Parents
Love is a flickering flame Marriage is a flickering television
Parents
A good parent-children relationship should be set up on the basis mutual understanding and respect. Parents can not impose their ideas on their children. They should treat their children as independent individual. It is advisable for the parents to learn to listen to children’s ideas and encourage them to think on their own rather than decide everything for the children. On the other hand, children should listen to their parents’ advice for they’re more experienced. Try to be understanding when there is disagreement with parents. Always keep one thing in min---whatever they do comes from their love for us. It is necessary children to exchange ideas with parents from time to time so that the gap between parents and children will be narrowed.

We would just sit and talk — sometimes until sunrise. I was so completely thrilled to have finally found that one special person. However, it was not long after our honeymoon when my husband climbed into the tomb called “the office” and wrapped his mind in a shroud of paperwork and buried himself in clients, and I said nothing for fear of turning into a nagging wife. It seemed as if overnight an invisible wall had been put up between us. He just lay beside snoring like a hibernating bear unaware of my winter. When our daughter was born, she quickly became the center of my world. I watched her grow from infant to toddler, and I no longer seemed to care that my husband was getting busier and spending less time at home. Somewhere between his work schedule and our home and young daughter, we were losing touch with each other. That invisible wall was now being hardened by the mortar (砂浆) of indifference. Then tragedy struck our lives, when my husband’s younger brother was killed on September 11, 2001, along with thousands of other innocent people. He made it out okay and spoke to his wife to say he was going back in to help those that were still trapped. He was identified only by the engraving on the inside of his wedding ring.Attending our brother’s memorial service was an eye-opening experience for both of us. For the first time, we saw our own marriage was almost like my in-laws. At the tragic death of the youngest son they could not reach out console one another. It seemed as if somewhere between the oldest son’s first tooth and the youngest son’s graduation they had lost each other. Their wedding day photograph of the young, happy, smiling couple on the mantle of their fireplace was almost mocking those two minds that no longer touched.Later one night, my husband told of his fear of dying. Until then he had been afraid to expose his naked souls. I spoke of trying to find myself in the writings of my journal. It seemed as if each of us had been hiding our soul-searching from the other. We are slowly working toward building a bridge — not a wall, so that when we reach out to each other, we do not find a barrier we cannot penetrate or retreat from the stranger on the other side.4.From the second paragraph, we can learn that the author’s husband _________.A.didn’t show any affection for her B.was fully occupied with his workC.preferred his work to his family D.got tired of his nagging wife5.What does the underlined word in Paragraph 5 refer to?A.The author’s husband’s parents.B.The author’s husband’s brothers-in-law.C.The author’s husband’s brothers.D.The author’s husband’s sisters-in-law. 6.What can be inferred from the passage about the couple?A.Their brother’s death triggered their reflection on marriage.B.Attending the memorial service worsened their relationship.C.The fear of dying prevented the husband from reaching out.D.Communication was a most effective means to break the barrier.7.Which of the following best describes the author?A.Sympathetic and emotional.B.Hardworking and ambitious.C.Sensitive and sensible.D.Independent and critical. Many of the major supermarket chains have come under fire with accusations of various immoral acts over the past decade. They’ve wasted tons of food and they’ve contributed to excessive plastic waste in their packaging, which has had its impact on our environment. But supermarkets and grocers are starting to sit up and take notice. In response to growing consumer opposition to the huge amounts of plastic waste generated by plastic packaging, some of the largest UK supermarkets have signed up to an agreement promising to transform packaging and cut plastic wastage. In a pledge to reuse and recycle all plastic wastage by 2025, supermarkets are now beginning to take some responsibility for the part they play in contributing to the damage to our environment, with one major supermarket announcing their plan to eliminate all plastic packaging in their own-brand products by 2024.In response to criticisms over food waste, some supermarkets are donating some of their food surplus. However, charities estimate that they are only accessing two per cent of supermarkets’ total food surplus, so this hardly seems to be solving the problem. Most supermarkets operate under a veil of secrecy when asked for exact figures of food wastage, and without more transparency it is hard to come up with a systematic approach to avoiding waste and to redistributing surplus food. Some smaller companies are now taking matters into their own hands and offering consumers a greener option. Shops like Berli’s Original Unverpakt and London’s Bulk Market are plastic-free shops, encouraging customers to use their own containers or degradable bags. Online grocer Farmdrop eliminates the need for large warehouses and the risk of huge food surplus by delivering fresh produce from local farmers to its customers on a daily basis via electric cars, offering farmers the lion’s share of the retail price. There is no doubt that we still have a long way to go in reducing food waste and plastic waste. But perhaps the major supermarkets might take inspiration from these smaller grocers and gradually move towards a more sustainable future for us all.8.Some of major UK supermarkets promise to reduce plastic waste, because _________.A.they want to take the responsibility for environmental damage caused by othersB.they promised to eliminate all plastic packaging in their own-brand products by 2024C.an increasing number of people want supermarkets to reduce plastic waste they produceD.the policy issued by the authority serves as supervision to decrease plastic waste 9.What does the author imply in the third paragraph?A.Supermarkets are still denying that food waste can cause damage to our environment.B.Supermarkets are making every effort to take measures to cut down on food waste.C.Charities are to blame as they only obtain limited access to supermarkets’ total food surplus.D.Supermarkets are unlikely to avoid waste unless they disclose the exact figures of food wastage.10.What do the underlined words “take matters into their own hands” mean?A.Take the risk of completing difficult tasks.B.Deal with problems yourself after others fail to do so.C.Take the initiative to address problems.D.Settle problems in collaboration with others.11.What is author’s attitude towards the major supermarkets’ current action?A.Unsatisfied B.Indifferent C.Favorable D.UncertainImagine accessing traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) services with just a tap on your smartphone. What once required a hospital visit — often leading to long waits and considerable inconveniences, especially for the elderly — is now available at your fingertips. The innovative mini-program “Wang She Wen Shan” (Tongue Diagnosis and Dietary Guidance) is transforming TCM consultations. Users can now receive a detailed health report in under two minutes simply by taking a quick snapshot of their tongue. More than that, this AI-powered tool also provides personalized dietary and wellness recommendations.According to the mini-program’s developers, this transformation has been made possible through the seamless integration of the traditional TCM tongue diagnosis method with cutting-edge AI image recognition technology. The program has been trained on over 20,000 clinical tongue images, enabling it to provide accurate and convenient health assessments.Since July 2023, Guangzhou has been at the forefront of piloting TCM services with AI assistance. A research team from the South China University of Technology developed an AI-powered TCM Constitution Identification Device based on machine learning models. Trained by TCM doctors from local hospitals, this device has “learned” to identify users’ constitution typesthrough facial and tongue images and provide personalized health recommendations. By October 2023, this smart device had been adopted in 11 communities across Guangzhou, serving over 12,000 residents. In addition, other AI-driven innovations, such as prescription systems, pulse signal acquisition systems, acupuncture robots, and massage robots, are making their way into public use, bringing a high-tech touch to traditional medicine.Despite the progress made, the integration of AI into TCM is still in its early stages. One of the primary hurdles is the lack of theoretical standardization within TCM. For the same illness, different schools and experts may recommend varying treatment plans.Another challenge lies in the integration of medical and engineering technologies. Although computer applications in TCM date back to the 1980s, early systems relied on pre-programmed standards that often fell short due to the complex nature of patient symptoms. The unpredictability and variability of these symptoms pose significant difficulties for AI’s deep learning processes.Anyway, there is every reason to believe that the integration of AI into TCM will profoundly revolutionize healthcare by making TCM more accessible and efficient. It holds significant promise for underserved areas with limited medical resources. Nevertheless, as the journey is only beginning, it is crucial to acknowledge its current limitations in clinical settings. While AI offers substantial potential for TCM, accurate diagnosis still relies heavily on the expertise of physicians. AI is intended to complement — not replace — human doctors. 12.What do we know about “Wang She Wen Shan”?A.It provides invariable dietary and wellness suggestions for users.B.It requires users to take a photo of their tongue for consultation.C.It has been trained on abundant tongue images of medical staff.D.It fails to function properly without facial recognition technology.13.What’s the main idea of the fourth paragraph?A.A glimpse of the development of AI-driven TCM innovations.B.An introduction to an AI-powered device developed by doctors.C.An insight into the potential use of AI-driven devices in TCM.D.A comparison between different AI-powered TCM innovations14.Who might benefit most from the mini-program?A.Folks in places with few experienced doctors.B.Patients with symptoms rarely seen or reported.C.Physicians with great diagnostic capabilities.D.Senior citizens with difficulty using smart phones.15.What can be a suitable title for the text?A.AI: The Future of TCM B.Doctors at Your FingertipsC.Modernized TCM with AI D.Integration of AI into MedicinePeople who experience loneliness may assume that they are unlovable, which may cause profound shame and injure self-esteem. 16 We all feel lonely at times just like we all feel hunger or thirst. There is no reason to be ashamed of being human. Here are a few ways to work through the shame and find or reestablish connections.Develop your relationships. You can be surrounded by people and still feel lonely if what you want or expect from your relationships is different from what you perceive. 17 A few minutes of honest, authentic human connection can transform how we feel. If you’re accustomed to texting friends or relatives, try a phone or video call instead. It doesn’t need to last long, but it may rekindle a friendship and lift your mood.Look for commonalities. We each have unique ways of finding friends, initiating communication and maintaining our relationships. “If you’re a bookworm, don’t expect your next best buddy at a party.” said Louise Hawkley, a research scientist who studies loneliness. “ 18 ”19 V olunteering is a way to broaden your social networks. In a study of 10,000 volunteers in Britain, about two-thirds agreed that volunteering had helped them feel less isolated. Some organizations can help you find opportunities in your area.Taking a small step toward building social connections can help your confidence. If you’re finding it difficult to initiate contact with someone or you’re feeling socially isolated, don’t hesitate to tell someone that you’re struggling. 20 “Lonely people have more control over the situation than they think they do if you reach out.” Hawkley said.A.People are not necessarily to be struck by someone like them.B.Effort and honesty are crucial to strengthening those connections.C.Don’t abandon yourself to loneliness.D.You have to look for people who share your interests and values.E.But the truth is loneliness is a universal human experience.F.Offer support to someone else.G.It could be a relative, a friend, a therapist or a health care provider.二、完形填空After moving into her new home, the mistress hadn’t finished tidying up yet. 我们应该体贴父母英语作文
我们应该体贴父母英语作文Title: The Importance of Being Considerate to Our Parents。
In today's fast-paced world, where our lives are often consumed by various responsibilities and distractions, it's easy to overlook the importance of being considerate to our parents. However, showing empathy, understanding, and appreciation towards our parents is crucial for fostering strong familial bonds and creating a supportive environment. In this essay, we will delve into the significance of being considerate to our parents and explore ways in which we can demonstrate this virtue.First and foremost, it's essential to recognize the sacrifices and efforts our parents have made for us throughout our lives. From the moment we were born, they have been our primary caregivers, providing us with love, guidance, and support. They have sacrificed their time, energy, and resources to ensure our well-being andhappiness. Therefore, showing appreciation for their dedication and selflessness is the least we can do.Being considerate to our parents also entails understanding their perspectives and empathizing with their struggles. As we grow older, we may develop our own lives, goals, and priorities, often diverging from those of our parents. However, it's important to remember that they have their own dreams, fears, and challenges. Taking the time to listen to their concerns, validate their feelings, andoffer support can go a long way in strengthening our relationship with them. Moreover, being considerate to our parents means being mindful of their needs and preferences. As they age, they may require more assistance with daily tasks, face health issues, or experience loneliness. By being attentive to their needs and providing them with the care and attention they deserve, we can make a significant difference in their lives. Whether it's helping them with household chores, accompanying them to medical appointments, or simply spending quality time with them, our actions speak volumesabout our love and respect for them.Furthermore, being considerate to our parents involves treating them with kindness, patience, and respect. They may have their own quirks, habits, and limitations, butit's important to accept them for who they are without judgment or criticism. Instead of focusing on their shortcomings, we should cherish the moments we share with them and cherish the lessons they have taught us over the years. In addition to individual acts of kindness, there are also broader ways in which we can demonstrate our consideration for our parents. For example, we can advocate for policies and initiatives that support elderly care, promote intergenerational bonding, and provide resourcesfor families facing financial hardships. By actively participating in efforts to create a more supportive and inclusive society, we can ensure that our parents and other seniors receive the respect and care they deserve. In conclusion, being considerate to our parents is notjust a moral obligation but also a deeply rewarding experience. By acknowledging their contributions, understanding their perspectives, and supporting their needs, we can strengthen our familial bonds and create a nurturing environment for ourselves and future generations. Let us strive to show gratitude, empathy, and respect towards our parents every day, recognizing that their love and sacrifices have shaped us into the individuals we are today.。
孩子是否应该一直听从父母的话英语作文
孩子是否应该一直听从父母的话英语作文Should Children Always Obey Their Parents? In many cultures, it is considered a virtue for children to obey their parents. However, as children grow older and develop their own sense of identity and independence, they may begin to question whether they should always follow their parents’ instructions. In this essay, I will explore the pros and cons of children always obeying their parents and offer some suggestions for how parents and children can navigate this complex issue. On the one hand, there are several reasons why children should obey their parents. First and foremost, parents have more life experience and wisdom than their children. They have gone through many of the same challenges and experiences that their children are currently facing and can offer valuable advice and guidance. Additionally, parents are responsible for their children’s well-being and safety, and their instructions are often designed to protect their children from harm.Another reason why children should obey their parents is that it helps to build a sense of trust and respect between parents and children. When children follow their parents’ instructions, they are showing that they trust their parents’ judgment and respect their authority. This can lead to a stronger parent-child relationship and a more harmonious family environment. However, there are also some potential drawbacks to children always obeying their parents. One concern is that it can limit a child’s independence and creativity. If children are always told what to do and how to do it, they may not have the opportunity to develop their own problem-solving skills and decision-making abilities. Additionally, if parents are too strict or controlling, it can lead to rebellion and resentment in children.Another potential issue is that parents may not always be right. While parents have more life experience, they are not perfect and may make mistakes. If children are always expected to follow their parents’instructions without question, they may miss out on opportunities to learn from their own mistakes and develop their own sense of judgment. So, what is the best approach? I believe that a balance is needed. Children should respect their parents’ authority and listen to their advice, but they should also be encouraged to think for themselves and make their own decisions. Parents can help by providing guidance and support, but also by allowing their children the freedom to make mistakes and learn from them. One way to achieve this balance is through open communication. Parents should encourage their children to express their opinions and feelings, and they should listen attentively and respond with respect. By having honest and respectful conversations, parents and children can work together to find solutions that are in everyone’s best interest.Another important factor is for parents to set a good example. Children are more likely to follow their parents’ lead if they see them behaving in a positive and respectful manner. Parents should model the values and behaviors that they want their children to adopt, such as honesty, kindness, and responsibility. While it is important for children to obey their parents, it is not always necessary or beneficial for them to do so blindly. A balance is needed between respect for authority and the development of independence and creativity. By communicating openly, setting a good example, and allowing for some degree of autonomy, parents and children can work together to build a strong and healthy relationship based on mutual respect and trust.。

照顾老人的英语作文
照应老人的英语作文照应老人的英语作文范文(通用 21 篇)照应老人的英语作文篇 1It is estimated that by the year 20xx,Chinawill have 150 million elderly. We should take an active attitude toward old people. They should not be regarded as burdens but part of the wealth of society. Having gone through all sorts of trials and tribulations in life, the elderly know better than the younger generation about the meaning of happiness and grief. Having stood up to the tests of life for many years, they have accumulated knowledge, wisdom and practical experience, which are indispensable to social development and human civilization. “Respecting the old and caring for the young” has been part of our fine tradition and valuable heritage. When people become old, they tend to easily get upset, frustrated, and are afraid of being loneliness. They, therefore, expect more spiritual comfort and emotional interaction from their children and friends. The younger generation should take more time to talk with them. Meanwhile, a better social environment should be created, one in which old people will be feeling life is beautiful and worth living.Personally, I would like to make the following proposals: Teams of young volunteers should be set up to help these pensioners. They can spare some time to have a heart-to-heart communication with them, hoping to find what they are thinking in their inner world and offer some help to them. Classes for retirees should be organized, where old men and women can study calligraphy, painting, health care, singing and dancing and have sports suitable to them. Some special clubs should also be established, which old people can talk to each other so as to ward off loneliness and lose.【参考译文】据估计,到 20xx 年中国的老人数量将会达到 15 亿。

Should aged parents be sent to the nursing home?
Nowadays, more and more people choose to send their aged parents to the nursing home. Many of them think it would make their parents live more comfortable and get professional care. But I think it is totally wrong.
First of all, What our parents need is not to have a comfortable environment, what they need at this time is love and care from their sons and daughters who they put their all hopes on. A piece of data says that 65 percent of aged people don’t want to be sent to a place which is far from their children. Besides, when they are sent to a strange place and get on with strange people they won’t fell very well. So we should give them love and look after them as they did to us when we were young.
Furthermore, old people may feel lonely at the nursing home. Many people say that there are a lot of old people in the nursing home. So all the old people can communicate with each other and it’s good to old people. But I think the ability of old people to adapt to the new environment is weak. Maybe they have adapted to the fami9liar family and neighborhood, so they are not willing to change.
Last but not the least, many people argue that they have no time and energy to take care of their parents. And they believe that nursing home can provide more professional care. I think even though there are many nurse and doctor, but most of them are work for money but not passion. Besides, there are so many aged people at the nursing home and they won’t attend everyone.
For all these reasons above, I think it’s children’s duty to attend our aged parents, and we should do it as well as they do when we are young.。
