After doing three years of the five years sentence, Porter emerged from the prison（出狱） in1901 and changed his name to O. Henry.
He moved to New York City,where over the next ten years before his death in 1910,he published over 300 stories and gained worldwide acclaim as American favorite short story writer（作为美国最受欢迎的短篇小说 作家获得了世界的好评）.
