Car needs gas to run as your body needs food to work for you. Eating the right kinds of food is very important. A good eating habit can help your body grow strong if you take care of what you eat.
There are four main food groups altogether. The dairy group has food like milk, cheese and sour milk. The other three groups are the meat and fish group, the fruit and vegetable group, and the bread and rice group. Each meal should have at least one food from all four main groups. When I was about 10 one day, I was walking down the street with my mother. She stopped to speak to Mr. Lee. I knew I could see Mr. Lee anytime around the neighborhood, so I just stood there. After we passed him, my mother stopped and said something unforgettab le, “You let that be the last time you ever walk by somebody you know without opening your mouth to speak, because even a dog can wag its tail when it passes you on the street.〞 That sentence sounds simple but it made me become who I am.
At work, I used to say hello to the president of the company and ask him how our business was doing. But I also spoke to the people in the café and people who cleaned the buildings, and asked them how their children were doing, for every single person deserves to be accepted, no matter how humble(卑微的) they are. I remember that after a few years of passing by the president, I had the courage to ask him for a chat. We had a great talk. At some point, when I asked him how far he thought I could go in his company, he said that if I wanted to, I could get all the way to his seat.
I’ve become vice-president, but that hasn’t changed how I treat people. I speak to people wherever I am. Speaking to people creates a pathway into their world, and it lets them come into mine, too.
The day you speak to someone who has his head down and then see him lift it up and smile, you will realize how powerful it is just to open your mouth and say hello.

We all love festivals. But since culture develops differently in many places, some festivals are, to us, very strange. Let’s take a look at some unique(独特的)festivals around the world.
Cheese Rolling Festival (England)
The festival started in the 15th century in May. When a round cheese is rolled, competitors run down the hill and try to catch it before it reaches the bottom. As the cheese can reach speeds of up to 112 km/h, it’s rare that someone catches the cheese. First to the bottom wins the cheese. But running down a very steep(陡峭的) hill behind a cheese can be dangerous. Eight people were injured in 1992.
Roswell UFO festival (New Mexico, US)
The Roswell UFO festival celebrates the anniversary(日) of the “Roswell Incident〞, when a UFO was said to have crashed(坠毁) nearby. Every year in July, experts, authors, researches and lecturers come to discuss the incident. The celebration also includes an alien parade, an alien costume contest, and an alien hot air balloon ride.
Hemingway Days (Florida, US)
This festival has normal stuff (材料,东西) like short-story readings and exhibits about the author. But the highlight (亮点) of the festival is definitely (一地) the Hemingway look alike contest.
Imagine walking into a bar and being greeted by 20 middle-aged men who all look alike: stocky
with thick white beards. The festival takes place in mid-July every year.

No fight can end, and no friendship can move on, until everyone says these little words: I’m sorry. Sometimes, though, they can be difficult to say. 71 .
It’s not about winning.
Friendships aren’t like the Super Bowl, and there should never be a winner and a loser. When you start fighting with a friend, it may feel important that you “win〞 the fight by proving you’re right and he is wrong, or by making him be the first to apologize.
72
You may have heard the expression “His pride stood in the way.〞 It is usually used to describe a person who is so determined to be“right〞that he lets an opportunity for happiness pass him
by forever. 73 Remember: as time goes on, we usually forget who was right and who was wrong in a disagreement, and only remember the sadness of losing a friend.
Take the first step.
Are you sick of fighting? Do you think this fight is just not important enough to ruin your friendship? 74 You don’t have to take full responsibility for starting the fight, or even say that your feelings were wrong. But you should find something you did or said that’s worth apologizing for. Maybe you’re sorry that you let the fight go for so long, of that you overreacted(反过度的) to something your friend did. If you say you are sorry, it’s like an invitation for your friend to do the same. 75
A.Then try to be the first to apologize.
B.Stop thinking about your pride.
C.I t’s about taking some responsibility for the argument.
D.Don’t let this happen to a friendship you care about.
E.Here are some things to keep in mind.
F.There are some special cases when you shouldn’t be the one to apologize first.
G.Once you’ve both said it, you’ll both feel a million times better.

书面表达
My Opinion on Cheating in Examinations
It is known to us all that some students cheat in examinations at school.
As students, we often take examinations at school, but sometimes we have too many examinations which are too difficult for us. On the other hand, some of us are lazy and don’t work hard at their lessons. So when taking examinations, they sometimes cheat in order to get better results to please their parents and teachers.
In my opinion, it is wrong to cheat in examinations because it breaks the rules of schools. We students should be honest and try to get good results by studying hard instead of cheating in examinations. What’s more, we should improve our study methods and get well prepared for examinations.

But I really have a good example of buying wedding gifts, and it may be helpful. That’s about my friend and her husband. Before the wedding, they made a list of thing they wanted. People signed their names by the item they would buy.
M: That’s a great idea! Then everyone knew that they were buying something the couple really wanted and there was no chance of two people buying the same gift. What things were on the list? W: Most of the things were articles of daily use, such as a cooker, cosmetics and decorations.
I think that idea made it easy for people to choose gift.
M: So, what did you get them?
W: I bought perfume. I know that’s my friend’s favorite.
M: Did she like your gift for her?
Yes, when she saw my gift, she nodded her head and said: “That’s what I need.〞
M: All right, then I know what I should buy for John. He is crazy about music, so I will buy him a stereo.
W: That sounds great.
(TEXT 10)
A young father visited an old neighbor. They were standing in the old man’s garden and talking about children. The young man asked, “How strict should parents be with their children?〞 The old man pointed to a string between a big, strong tree and a thin, young one. “Please untie that string,〞 he said. The young man untied it, and the young tree bent over to one side. “Now tie it again, please,〞 said the old man, “but first pull the string tight so that the young tree is straight again.〞 The young man did so. Then the old man said, “There, it is the same with children. You must be strict with them, but sometimes you must unite the string to see how they are going on. If they are not yet able to stand along, you must tie the string tight again. But when you find that they are ready to stand along, you can take the string away.〞。
