A handsome middle-aged man walked quietly into

The University of Chicago conducted a survey to determine w hat adults want to study. That survey cost $ 25,000 and took t wo years. The last part of the survey was made in Meriden, C
onnecticut. It had been chosen as a typical American town. E very adult in Meriden was interviewed and requested to answ er 156 questions such as “What is your business or professio n? Your education? How do you spend your spare time? Wha t is your income? Your hobbies? Your ambitions? Your proble ms? What subjects are you most interested in studying?” and so on. That survey revealed that health is the prime interest of adults and that their second interest is people; how to unders tand and get along with people; how to make people like you; and how to win others to your way of thinking.
So the committee conducting this survey decided to conduct s uch a course for adults in Meriden. They searched for a practi cal textbook on the subject and found none. Finally they appr oached one of the world’s outstanding authorities on adult ed ucation and asked him if he knew of any book that met the ne eds of this group. “No,” he replied, “I know what those adults want. But the book they need has never been written.”
I knew from experience that this statement was true, for I mys elf had been searching for years to discover a practical handb ook on human relations. Since no such book existed, I have tr ied to write one for use in my own courses. And here it is. I ho pe you like it.

Take a doctor for example: AI will soon be able to detect and diagnose common diseases more quickly and accurately than humans. Now, doctors can spend more of their time explainin g the possible diagnoses, communicating with patients and de veloping unique, reliable treatment plans that are most effecti ve for each specific patient.
However, AI is so powerful and its adoption will only accelerat e as it begins to help our work and allow us to focus on t
he parts of our job that are most important. But part of why AI is so attractive is also why it’s so dangerous. That is, that sam e power allows AI that are making inco
rrect decisions to do so with greater speed and impact than h umans have ever had.
This is why, as AI becomes more useful in 2018, it will also be come more closely examined. 2018 will be the year when co mpanies purchasing AI products don’t just ask about the pow er of AI—
they will make sure that it is tested carefully in advance, mini mizing their potential unexpected impact.
