14、A 12-year-old girl from Virginia, US, never thought that a simple message she put online could bring her big problems. She posted the words, “Killing. Meet me in the library Tuesday”, with three emojis(表情符号) of a gun, a knife and a bomb(炸弹) on Instagram, a social media(社交媒体). She was told that she broke the law because of threatening(威胁) her school.
This problem is not far away from us. Not long ago, Ni Hanxiang, a Chinese student at a university in the US, was sent back to China after expressing on social media that he would kill his teachers if he failed to pass his exams.
In China, posting threatening words online is also against the law. In 2013, Wu Hongfei, a singer, got into trouble for saying on weibo that she wanted to blow up a building.
“Threatening happens not only face to face but also through the Internet, social media and the telephone,” said Mr. Cao, a lawyer from Chongqing. “Although the law of China protects people’s right of free speech, it doesn’t include words that threaten others’ lives and national safety.”
“Some people may not mean to threaten. They may just be trying to say “I’m strong”, said Fred Pratt, a lawyer from the US.
The girl’s mother said her daughter was a good kid who had never been in trouble before. Ni Ha nxiang also said he didn’t realize that what he put online was so serious.
“But not knowing the law doesn’t mean the law will treat you any differently if you break it,” says David Allen Green, a lawyer from the UK. So, do you think we’d better spend a mi nute or two thinking about the words or emojis we use on social media before we press “send”?

A.Fred Pratt thinks some people may not mean to threaten
B.the girl’s mother didn’t think her daughter was a bad child
C.Cheating in an examination at school may get you into trouble
D.Putting threatening words on QQ may bring you problems
4.This passage mainly wants to tell us that _______.
A.we shouldn’t break the US law if we study at a university in the US
B.students and singers shouldn’t post words or emojis on social media
C.students should study hard at school and not use the Internet too much
D.we should be careful when we send words or emojis on social media

Do you ever throw away food at home? Have you ever thought about what happens to the food that shops and supermarkets don’t sell? Well, you might be shocked (震惊) to find out that nearly one third of food produced for human gets lost or wasted. What’s more, around 800 million people in the world do not have enough food to lead a healthy life.
Many people in the UK and across the world are trying to do something about this imbalance and make use of
thrown-out food that can be perfectly eaten. For example, there is a cafe in Leeds (UK) whose meals are all created using unsold food from supermarkets, including a lot of vegetables, fruit, fish and other things. This unwanted food is turned into delicious soups and all kinds of dishes that feed the hungry people of Leeds. Customers simply pay what they can afford, or help with the washing up. In just ten months, 10,000 people were fed at this cafe, using twenty tons of unwanted food!
Also, last year the UK’s first food waste supermarket opened. The supermarket is near Leeds and works on a “pay as you feel”; customers pay whatever they want for the produce. The stock (库存) changes daily but you can usually find things such as fresh vegetables, fruit and milk there. Some low-income families have said that it has changed their lives.
“Fuel for School” is another food waste project. Surplus (多余的) food from supermarkets such as vegetables, fruit and bread is used to feed hungry schoolchildren whose families may not be able to afford to buy them lunch.
I lived in Leeds for three years, and have had lunch at a food waste cafe, and it was delicious. I couldn’t believe that it was all food that supermarkets had thrown away! I have also taken part in projects such as “Foodcycle”, using supermarkets’ unwanted food to cook meals for poor people.
More cafes like this are being opened in other parts of the UK, and it is now becoming popular in the world. I think this is an amazing ac t as food waste is one of the world’s biggest problems. I also believe that the law should be changed, so that supermarkets don’t throw away so much perfectly good food!
1.800 million people in the world can’t live a healthy life because of ______.
A.unsold food B.unwanted food
C.being unable to work D.being short of food
2.According to the passage, the writer agrees that ______.
A.buying the waste food can protect the environment
B.all the people in the world make use of waste food
C.food waste in the world can be solved by the UK soon
D.the government should make the law to stop food waste
3.What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage?
A.To encourage people to save food.
B.To introduce some supermarkets in the UK.
C.To share his personal experience in saving food.
D.To explain why he cooked meals for poor people.

16、When something goes wrong, it can be very satisfying to say, “Well, it’s so-and-so’s mistake.” or “I know I’m late, but it’s not my fault; the car broke down.” It is probably not your mistake, but once you form the habit of blaming (指责) somebody or something else for a bad situation, you are a loser. Y ou have no power and could do nothing that helps change the situation. However, you can have great power over what happens to you if you stop focusing on whom to blame and start focusing on how toremedy the situation. This is the winner’s key to success.
Winners are great at solving problems. For example, if you were late because your car broke down, maybe you need to have your car examined more regularly. Or, you might start to carry along with you the useful phone numbers, so you could call for help when in need. For another example, if your colleague (同事) causes you problems on the job for being short of responsibility or ability, find ways of dealing with his irresponsibility or inability rather than simply blame the
person. Ask to work with a different person, or don’t depend on the person. Y ou should accept that the person is not reliable and find creative ways to work successfully regardless of how your colleague fails to do his job well.
This is what being a winner is all about – creatively using your skills and talents so that you are successful no matter what happens. Winners don’t have fewer problems in their lives; they have just as many difficult situations to face as anybody else. They are just better at seeing those problems as challenges and chances to develop their own talents. So, stop focusing on “whose mistake it is.” Once you are confident about your power over bad situations, problems are just stepping stones for success.
1.(小题1)What does the underlined word “remedy” probably mean?
A.Avoid. B.Accept.
C.Improve. D.Consider.
2.(小题2)When your colleague brings about a problem, you should ______.
A.blame him for his being short of responsibility
B.find a better way to deal with the problem
C.tell him to find the cause of the problem
D.ask a more able colleague for help
3.(小题3)What can be the best title for the passage?
A.A Winner’s Secret. B.A Winner’s Chance.
C.A Winner’s Problem. D.A Winner’s Progress.
