Abstract
Studying on projectile penetration problem has an important guiding significance for projectile design, it is helpful to understand the penetration characteristics, and better for the national defense service. This paper mainly studies the penetration of egg-shaped projectile made of 4340Steel in different speed and the different ratios of warheads curvature radius and diameter to concrete of different compressive strength, gaining penetration principle of penetration depth and overload acceleration. We study and verify from two aspects of theoretical analysis and numerical simulation. The theoretical analysis uses Forrestal formula and numerical simulation uses the nonlinear software of impact dynamics—LS-DYNA to simulate different conditions. Firstly through the theoretical analysis, we get ovoid projectile ( CRH=3 ) penetration situation at the speed of 400-1200m/s, knowing that in the lower speed penetration depth increases with the penetration velocity increasing and acceleration increases with the increase of speed. Verify the penetration of different CRH and different concrete targets finding that CRH is larger, that is the bullet shape more pointed, projectile penetration depth is larger, acceleration shorter and concrete target strength is more obvious on projectile penetration that target strength is greater and penetration depth is relatively smaller with the acceleration changing larger. For the penetration problems with different situations, we firstly simulate the simulation of different speed, obtaining the simulation curve of penetration depth of the time-history and acceleration of projectile. Compared with experimental results, proving the reliability of numerical simulation. Then simulating the penetration condition of different CRH projectile, different target materials and different ratio of length to diameter, the simulation results show that: the warhead more pointed, target hinders smaller on projectile penetration; target strength is greater, the greater the obstacles is; in a certain range, the ratio of length to diameter is larger, the smaller target block is on the penetration.
