“The Solitary Reaper”
The poem was composed in 1805, and first published in
1807. And It is one of Wordsworth's most famous
lyrics.
The four eight-line stanzas of this poem are written in tight iambic tetrameter.
• The whole poem is obviously a spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings recollected in tranquility. It eulogizes the harmony between things in nature and the harmony between nature and man
Each follows a rhyme scheme of ababccdd. Though in the first and last stanzas the “a” rhyme is off.
• The author describes vividly and sympathetically a young peasant girl working in the fields and singing as she works.
Wordsworth’s Writing Features

“I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud”
• This poem was written in 1804, and published in 1807.
• It is the loveliest and most famous lyric poem.
• It consists of four six-line stanzas, in iambic tetrameter and an ababcc rhyme scheme.
• The poem mainly discusses the theme of poetry. Songs are poetry too.
• In it, Wordsworth maintained that poetry should not rely on artificial diction for its effort. Rather, it should be written in more ordinary language and simpler form so that all classes might appreciate it.
