一、阅读理解

If you have a long holiday to spend, where do you want to go?
Nikoi Island, Indonesia
Approximately 85km—but somehow a whole world away—from Singapore's shining skyline lies Nikoi Island. Surrounded by white sandy shorelines and vivid coral reefs, Nikoi's centre is hidden in the rainforest, resulting in amazing biodiversity(生物多样性)seen in its native plants, animal and bird life. Marrying traditional Indonesian craftsmanship with contemporary design, Nikoi boasts just 15 stilt(支柱)beach houses, all with breathtaking sea views, guaranteeing privacy and a total escape from the daily grind.
Amanpulo, Philippines
As the only property on Pamalican Island, the luxurious Amanpulo resort offers extremely impressive accommodation, with only access to over five kilometres of clean coral sand beach. Designed to resemble local Bahay Kubo homes, Amanpulo's beachside, treetop and hillside villas all feature comfortable decks with hammocks(吊床)from which to enjoy the spectacular views of the greenish-blue sea below. Fill your schedule with Amanpulo's signature—aquatic adventures (including diving, windsurfing and sailing), recharge in the award-winning spa or feast on locally caught seafood—the choice is yours.
Song Saa, Cambodia
Song Saa's incredible ocean views and breathtaking sunsets are a very typical example of the pure place. Its 24 villas—each with their own sea view private plunge pool—are designed to reflect the natural beauty of Cambodia's coastline; built from recycled wood with straw roofs and driftwood furnishings, these villas are stylish proof of Song Saa's admirable commitment to sustainability and conservation. You can choose to do as much or as little as you want here. With rainforest tours, island safaris and reef snorkeling, just some of the activities on offer showcase this spectacular destination.

When Gitanjali Rao shared how she likes "finding solutions to real problems", it was hard to imagine this dynamic girl could settle a problem that had escaped scientists for years.
In just three months, Rao came up with a device(装置)that can replace the costly and lengthy tests currently used to reliably determine lead levels in our fresh water. Inspired by the current litigation(诉讼)in Flint, Michigan, a case of water pollution from 2014 until present, Rao designed a new testing system that resulted in her being named "America's top young, scientist" for 2017.
Rao had been following the water problem for about two years. She was amazed by the number of people affected by lead pollution in water and wanted to do something to change this. Rao spent months trying to convince local high schools and colleges to give her lab time to continue her experiment. At home, Rao worked on her project in the "science room" she asked her parents to create for her. Rao has created a device that uses three parts: a cartridge, a Bluetooth reader and an app. To put it simply, the cartridge contains carbon nanotubes(纳米管)that react to lead. This reaction is then registered by the Bluetooth reader, which sends a signal to a mobile app that can tell you immediately if your water is safe to drink. Rao appropriately named the device Tethys and is hoping to make a little improvement to get the device on the market. While we may not be aware of any lead pollution present in our aging pipelines, lead poisoning can cause delays in physical and mental development. With Rao believing that the "purpose of science is to make a difference", her incredible invention could make a difference to millions of people in the United States.
(1)What do we know about Rao's device?
A It's cheap and quick.
B It's cheap and inaccurate.
C It's expensive and
reliable. D It's portable and time-consuming.
(2)What made Rao have the idea of designing the device?
A Her parents' suggestions.
B Her desire for winning the award.
C Her interest in settling real problems.
D The water pollution litigation in Flint.
(3)What do the carbon nanotubes function as?
A Sending immediate signals.
B Detecting the presence of lead.
C Recording the reaction results.
D Showing the water quality results.
(4)What does the author think of Rao's invention?
A It will lead Rao to make a fortune.
B It will help millions of Americans drink safe water.
C It will promote the development of science in America.
D It will soon settle the lead-polluted problem thoroughly.

If you ever visit an English village, make sure to look out for morris dancing. Undoubtedly as one of the strangest of English culture, morris dancing is a form of folk dancing that dates back to the 15th century. If you ever get the opportunity, you really have to see it.
Men and women wearing old-fashioned, tattered(破烂的)clothing dance in the street of towns and villages across the country during the holiday periods. Women wear long, frilly
(有褶边的)skirts and men wear short trousers with bells attached to them. They dance to traditional folk music which is often played on traditional musical instruments.
Some groups carry heavy black sticks with which they bash against each other while they dance. Other groups wave handkerchiefs in the air whilst they perform. The dances are usually performed near a pub so that when it's over, the dancers and audience can sing some traditional folk songs over a pint of beer. The festivities will often continue long into the night, by which point most people are too drunk to think about performing again.
Morris dancing is a great English tradition but it's facing a big crisis. As the years go by, fewer and fewer young people are joining morris dancing groups. The dancers are getting older and older and eventually, if nothing is done to change this trend, the tradition will die out within the next few decades.
If you've ever had the fortune to see morris dancing, you may understand why teenagers aren't rushing to sign up. Putting it bluntly(直言地), it's not exactly the coolest thing for an 18-year-old to be doing. Why dress up in bells and funny costumes when you could be going clubbing? Or playing sports? Or doing anything else?
However, it would be a great shame to lose such a fun and energetic part of England's history and culture. It's important to look after some traditions and customs especially when it's something as harmless and happy as morris dancing. So here's a toast to the next generation of would-be morris dancers! Let's hope they don't leave it behind.
(1)What is the article mainly about?
A The popularity of morris dancing in the UK.
B The origins of morris dancing in the UK.
C Different attitudes toward morris dancing in the UK.
D Traditions and development of morris dancing in the UK.
(2)What can we know about morris dancing?
A Dancers usually wear long dresses with bells attached.
B People sing traditional folk music while they are dancing.
C Dancers perform with sticks or handkerchiefs in their hands.
D People prefer to dance till nighttime near pubs and then stop to drink beers.
(3)What is the present situation of morris dancing?
A There is a lack of professional dancers.
B It is losing appeal among young
people. C It is accused of lacking fun and variety. D Its traditions and customs have been forgotten.
(4)What does the author think about morris dancing?
A It is a good way for people to stay healthy and positive.
B It is a cultural heritage that deserves more attention.
C It is too old-fashioned and needs to be improved.
D It is fun and vibrant and every teenager should learn to do it.

Many Canadians are aware that problems with the nation's health care system have resulted in a lack of hospital beds and medical equipment, overcrowded emergency rooms, long waiting lists, and not enough family doctors.
Over the last 10 years, the number of medical students choosing the family practice as their
lifelong career has been dropping at a surprising rate. When asked why they lack interest in family medicine, the students cite(援引)a heavy student debt load and the long hours required of a doctor who is managing the family practice. As in other kinds of work, young doctors today want a balance between their professional and personal lives.
In British Columbia (BC) this problem is made worse because the province produces fewer medical graduates for each person than any other province in Canada. The provincial government has committed itself to doubling the number of medical student graduates. This strategy doesn't come close to giving us the new doctors needed each year in BC to replace those who are retiring, moving out of the province, reducing their hours of practice, or dying. The primary care system is showing its cracks. Ten years ago, 2,030 of BC's family doctors were providing obstetrical(产科的)care. Today just 945 are performing this invaluable service. Although delivering babies is a "good news" area of medicine, the hours are long, but the reward for bringing new life into the world is modest. It's no surprise, then, that many of BC's family doctors are no longer taking on new patients. In 1999, there were 1,420 family doctors accepting new patients—in 2004 that number declined to 599, a drop of 58%.
The foundation of primary care needs to be strengthened. The Working Agreement between the doctors and the government includes a series of primary care renewal projects designed to make the family practice more attractive to medical graduates, improve upon working conditions, and entice family doctors from outside BC to start their business here. Yet still more needs to be done.
(1)What makes medical students unwilling to be family physicians?
A The student debt and long working hours.
B Long term of study at a medical school.
C A limited number of places in medical school.
D An increasing number of patients and long waiting lists for specialists.
(2)What does the text say about family doctors in BC?
A They are no longer needed.
B They are too few in number.
C They will soon become abundant.
D They are rapidly leaving the province.
(3)Which can replace the underlined word "entice" in the last paragraph?
A Forbid.
B Hire.
C Remind.
D Attract.
(4)What is the primary purpose of the text?
A To show sympathy for family doctors.
B To inspire young people to be family doctors.
C To stress the urgent need of more family doctors.
D To tell the disadvantages of being family doctors.

As new car prices continue to climb, you can find reliable but cheap used cars for sale. Many
are readily available online, but car lots and local auto auctions(拍卖)also provide excellent sources for inexpensive vehicles. Here are the tips.
Search online
(1)______, some sites specialize in automotive sales and may contain hundreds of local lists. Private sellers may offer considerably lower prices for their cars than a dealer and be more receptive to negotiation. You will find dealer lists on these sites as well.
Visit local auctions
Though many car auctions take place online, you still can find a cheap used car at a specialized auto auction. These auctions, available in many bigger cities, are the same ones where local dealers purchase cars for sale.(2)______, so check with your local auto auction center to confirm.
(3)______
Many organizations that manage a fleet of vehicles sell their used cars when they remove them from active service. Car rental companies frequently sell late model, relatively low mileage former rental cars for well below the price a dealer would charge for a similar vehicle. For a very cheap used car, consider buying retired police cars and government surplus vehicles.(4)______.
Be prepared to negotiate
(5)______, you likely will have the opportunity to negotiate for a lower sales price. When negotiating with a dealer, according to the financial magazine Forbes, you may be able to get the lowest possible price on the last day of the month, a day with poor weather, or late at night on the weekend. Negotiations with a private seller often are more direct and consist of simply offering your ideal and reasonable price.
A. Consider retired vehicles
B. Ask advice from local dealers
C. These cars will help you save a lot
D. Unless you buy your used car in an auction
E. Rules can vary significantly from auction to auction
F. When you find a chance to ask about the local situation

Dear Shelly,
I'd like to invite you to join us in an activity of caring children with autism, which is to take place at Zhongshan Road next Saturday. Needless to say, there are a number of such special children around us who are incapable of communicating freely with others and need more people to take care of them. That day we will give performances like singing, dancing and playing musical instruments to draw attention to the children. In the meanwhile, some pretty works designed by us students will be displayed for sale. The money collected will go to charity. We should be back around 4 o'clock in the afternoon. If you are able to come with us, please let us know and we'll wait for you at the school gate at 9 in the morning.
Looking forward to your reply.
Yours,
Li Hua。
