How to Edit Video in Showbiz DVD
1. Open Showbiz DVD program.
2. At open screen, choose Capture, create or edit videos.
3. Close the next screen to appear (How would you like to acquire your media?)
4. To begin a new video project, create a new album for your media clips. Go to the dropdown arrow just below Effects (beside words Untitled_#) and choose <New Album>.
An Untitled_# album will appear. You can name the album by clicking on the Untitled_# and typing in the album name.
5. To bring video into the program from your camcorder/camera, follow the directions that relate to the specific type of camcorder/camera you are using.
6. To bring media already saved on your computer into the program, go to the folder icon just below Media.
Navigate to the folder where the media files you want to edit are located. Click on the
file you want to add to your album. Then click on Open. To choose all files, hold down the Ctrl and A key. To choose a few files, hold down the Ctrl key as you click on each file you want to open. Then select Open.
If a window appears which says, “Automatic Scene Detection,” check the box that says, “Do not show this message again.” Then click on OK.
7. To edit, the video clips need to be moved to the Storyboard.
There are two ways to move the video clips: double-click on the video file in the album – it will be moved to the next open space on the Storyboard; or, click on the video clip and drag it to the Storyboard. This second option is useful when there are multiple video clips in your Storyboard and you want to place a video clip in a particular location.
8. Once you begin adding video to the Storyboard, stop and save your new project. Save often. Go to File > Save Project As > My Documents > My Videos. Name your file and click Save. At this point your video is saved as a Showbiz file. It can only be viewed in your editing program and not on other video players.
9. Once the video clip is in the Storyboard, you can begin editing. The unedited video clip will appear in the window at the upper right.
Below the video is a sliding bar with a green scissor at the start and a red scissor at the end. By dragging the red or green arrows below the scissors, you can cut out parts of the video you do not want to appear in your final video. Everything in the green and red will be removed. The video that plays between the red and green arrow will appear in the final video.
You can use scenes from the same video multiple times by going back to the album and bringing the same video clip down to the Storyboard and editing it as described above.
10. To see all edited video clips play together, choose Entire Project in the right hand corner of the editing window. Then click on the Play button. To go back to the edit mode, click on Active Clip.
11. To add a colored screen to the front of your video, go to the drop down menu just below the word “Effects.” Choose Sample Colors. Each of these colors is a picture file. Place the color file into your video by dragging it to the desired location on your Storyboard just as you would drag a video to your Storyboard. Once placed in the video, you can change how long the color will play within the final video. To the left of the edit window, will be options to Enhance the Active Clip.
Features such as duration, brightness, contrast, hue, and saturation can be changed here. This can be done for any video or picture files by clicking on the clip/picture and using the Active Clip Enhance features at the center of the program window.
12. To add a transition between two video clips (use very sparingly) go to Transitions.
To the left you will see Category with 6 different options. As you click on each type of transition a preview of the transition will play in the edit window. To add a chosen transition to the Storyboard, click on it and drag it to the small box between the videos on the Storyboard. To preview the transition in your video, click on Entire Project and move the slider to an appropriate place to view. A transition can be edited in the Active Clip Enhance area for duration and movement (for some).
13. The Storyboard is the place to begin editing video and the place to add pictures and transitions. Once basic editing is completed in the Storyboard, the place to add other elements, such as titles, audio files, and effects, will be in the Timeline. To change to Timeline, click on its tab in the lower right of the Showbiz DVD screen.
In the Timeline window, you will see four tracks. The upper track is for the placement of Text. The next track is the video track with the audio from that video. The next two tracks are audio tracks.
14. To add text, go to Text in the upper left. Choose the Style for your text, first. Drag the chosen Style onto the Title track of the Timeline. Once placed, the Showbiz Text Editor window will open. In this window, type in your text. Font, alignment, bold, underline, size and color can be changed. By moving the cursor over the dotted line around the text, you will see a four-arrow cursor. This will allow you to move the text around within the window for placement. Click OK when done. After this, a type effect can be added by dragging your selection onto the title in the track.
Once type has been added to the title track, you can move it anywhere within your video by clicking and dragging it. The duration of the text can also be changed in the Active Clip Enhance area.
15. The audio of the video clips can be adjusted in several ways. By clicking on a video clip, the Active Clip Enhance options appear. In the Volume area, the clips volume can be adjusted or muted. Another way to alter the audio within a video clip is to move the blue lines within the audio file. Additional markers can be placed along the blue line by clicking on it so that volume can be increased or decreased at desired points.
16. Other audio files such as songs, sounds or narration can be added to the Timeline. Songs already on the computer can be added to the album in the same way that video is added. Songs can also be captured from CD’s.
Go to the Capture icon in the upper left.
Choose the Audio tab in the lower left.
Choose Extract Audio from CD. Place the CD in the drive. Choose the CD track desired. Choose Record in the Edit window. Name the file in the Save As window and click OK. Once the audio is extracted from the CD it will show up in the Album. Click on the Edit icon in the upper left to go back to the Timeline.
17. To record narration, go to the Capture icon in the upper left. Choose the Audio tab in the lower left. Choose record audio. Choose the device (internal or external microphone). Click on record, name the file in the Save As window, click OK and begin
speaking. When done, choose Stop. The narration will appear in the album. Click on the Edit icon in the upper left to go back to the Timeline.
18. To extract audio from a current video file to be used solely as an audio file, right click on the desired video in the Album. Choose Extract Audio. An Extracting Audio progress window may appear. When done the file will be available for use in the Album as a .wav file with the same name as the video clip.
19. To add any of the audio files to the Timeline, click on the desired file from the album and drag it to either Track 1 or 2 in the Timeline. The file can be moved anywhere within your video by clicking and dragging it. The start and stop points in the audio file can be edited in the same way as the video files.
20. To crop a portion of the video, click on the video clip that you want to crop. Go to Effects and choose the Crop category on the left. The last option will allow you to crop all sides of the video. Drag the crop onto the video clip. A yellow box will appear over the video. In the Active Clip Enhance area, you can further edit the Crop by clicking on Edit. By clicking the video image and dragging, the video can be moved around within the black crop window. By using the Scale slider, the video image can be enlarged or reduced to further fit the video within the black crop window. Once the size and placement of the crop is determined, click OK.
The start and stop point for the crop can be changed by dragging the beginning of the yellow box to the right and by dragging the end of the yellow box to the left. To have the crop extend to the beginning or end of the clip, right click on the yellow box and choose Extend to Align – left, right, or left and right. Multiple crops can occur within the same video clip by again dragging the crop onto the video clip. (If crop is used in one clip, it should be used throughout the video to maintain visual continuity in the final product.)
21. When finished editing all media, play the entire project to be sure everything looks and flows well.
22. To put the video in a format to be viewed on other computers or in a DVD player, there are two options available: Create a VCD/DVD or to Export the video. The Create a VCD/DVD will allow you to create a menu and chapters such as seen in commercial DVD’s. It will also allow the video to play in a standard DVD player. The Export feature will finalize the video in various formats such as a Windows Media Player file, a Microsoft AVI file, a Quicktime file, etc. The Export feature will provide you with more options for image size, compression, and file format. With the Export feature, the video is a stand-alone file that can be put on a CD/DVD or a flash drive to be shared with others.
To create a VCD/DVD, choose the Create icon towards the upper middle of the Showbiz DVD window. Choose either a DVD or Video CD. Choose to add menus or to create one without menus. The Design a DVD choice will allow you to select a background, text and audio for the main menu of the DVD. After making these selections, put a DVD or CD (best to use DVD-RW – it is compatible with most DVD players) into the drive and click on Write Disc towards the upper middle. Choose the red Start button to begin the video creation and burning process.
To Export the final video, choose the Export option toward the upper middle of the window. It is important to know on what type of device the video will be viewed in order to create the final video. The final video can be created in multiple formats. For several Mac and Windows options, choose Hard Disk under Options. Under Video type, choose the desired format (see below for options). To change the frame size, frame rate or quality, choose settings. The larger the frame size, frame rate or quality, the larger the file size. This should not be a problem if the video model is less than 3 minutes in length. Choose 640 X 480 under frame size. Frame rate should be 29.97 and quality should be 100. Click on Save. Click on Start to being saving the video in the desired format. In the Save As window, name your video and save the file in your My Documents > My Videos folder. The Edit window to the left will show you the percentage of production being completed. If the final video file size is too large to put on disk, you can export it again and choose a smaller frame size.
Formats:
Microsoft AVI file – Will play on a Windows computer. File size and compression can be changed. Can be played with Windows Media Player.
Windows Media File – Will play on a Windows computer. Ideal for internet video and streaming on the web. File size and compression can be changed. Can be
played with Windows Media Player.
Quicktime Movie – Will play on a Mac. Can be imported into iTunes and played
on an iPod. File size and compression can be changed.
23. When the video is finished being produced, it can be viewed outside of the Showbiz program and shared with others. You can burn the file to a disc or save it a flash drive. If the final video file size is too large to put on disk, you can go back into Showbiz and export the video again. Go into settings and choose a smaller frame size.。
