It was Saturday morning. I heard loud noises of moving furniture in the next room. I could almost feel the excitement of John who was soon going to get a room of his own. I remember my own feelings when I was 13. I knew how much he longed for his right to privacy (私人空间) when he was sharing a room with his younger brother, Robot. He sai d, “Mum, Can I please have a room of my own I could use Jeff’s. He won’t mind.”
It was true that Jeff had graduated from college and flown from the nest. But would he mind? The room was the place where I told him a thousand stories and we had a thousand talks. As
into areas that had less to do with family. I no longer could-or should-know everything about him.
It turned out that getting Jeff’s permission was easy. He said, “Of course, Mum, it would be selfish of me to hold on to it.” Then his voice softened, “Mum, I won’t be living at home again-you know that.” Behind his glasses, his eyes were lit with all the love. There were no door closed here-they had all opened up again.
As John and I were cleaning the room, I fixed my eyes on Jeff’s things around me and could almost touch the little boy I knew was gone forever. I looked at the room and, in my heart, I let it go. To hold on would be, as Jeff said, selfish. Now it was time for John, shouldering through the door, his eyes bright with promise of independence, to disappear behind the door. It was time for letting go to happen again.
21. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?

Though problems are a part of our lives, it certainly doesn’t mean that we let them rule our lives forever. One day or the other, you’ll have to stand up and say — pr oblem, I don’t want you in my life.
Of course, we’ve been fighting troubles ever since we were born. Problems with friends, parents, girlfriends, husbands, and children — the list goes on. Apart from these, the inner conflicts within ourselves work, too. These keep adding to our problems. Problems e in different shapes and colors and feelings.
But good news is that all problems can be dealt with. Now read on to know how to solve your problems.
Talk, it really helps. What most of us think is that our problem can be understood only by us and that no talking is going to help. But the truth is that when you talk about it, you’re setting free the negative energies that have been gathering within you. Talking helps you move on and let go.
Write your problems. Havi ng a personal diary can also be of huge help if you don’t want a real person to talk with. When you write down your problems, you’re setting free all the tension from your system. You can try throwing away the paper on which you wrote your problems. By doing this, imagine yourself throwing away the problems from your life.
Don’t lose faith and hope. No matter what you lose in life, don’t lose faith and hope. Even if you lose all your money, family... you should still have faith. With faith and hope, you can rebuild everything that you lose.
Your problems aren’t the worst. No matter what problem you get in life, there’re another one million people whose problems are huger than yours. Tell yourself: when they can deal with them, why can’t I? Your problems migh t just seem big and worse, but in reality they can be removed.
Go about and solve your problems because every problem, however big or small, always has a way out.
25.According to the text, the first paragraph is trying to .

27. Throwing away the paper with your problems means_______.
A. you are throwing away your problems
B. you don’t need anyone to talk with
C. you have solved your problems
D. you’ll have no problems any longer
C
You may not pay much attention to your daily elevator ride. Many of us use a lift several times during the day without really thinking about it .But Lee Gray,PhD of the University of North Carolina ,US,has made it his business to examine this overlooked form of public transport. He is known as the “Elevator Guy”.
“The lift bees this interesting social space where etiquette is sort of odd ,”Gray told the BBC.“They [elevators] are socially very interesting but often very awkward places”.
We walk in and usually turn around to face the door. If someone else es in, we may have to move. And here, according to Gray, lift users unthinkingly go through a set pattern of movements. He told the BBC what he had observed.
He explained that when you are the only one inside a lift, you can do whatever you want –it’s your own little box.
If there are two of you, you go into different corners, standing diagonally (对角线地) across from each other to create distance.
When a third person enters, you will unconsciously form a triangle. And when there is a fourth person it bees a square, with someone in every corner. A fifth person is probably going to have to stand in the middle.
New entrants to the lift will need to size up the situation when the doors slide open and then act decisively. Once in, for most people the rule is simple – look down, or look at your phone.
Why are we so awkward in lifts?
“You don’t have enough space,” Professor Babette Renneberg, a clinical psychologist at the Free University of Berlin, told the BBC. “Us ually when we meet other people we have about an arm’s length of distance between us. And that’s not possible in most elevators.”
In such a small, enclosed space it bees very important to act in a way that cannot be construed (理解) as threatening or odd. “The easiest way to do this is to avoid eye contact,” she said.
28.The main purpose of the article is to _____.
A. remind us not to behave strangely when in an elevator
B. analyze what makes people feel awkward in an elevator
C. share an interesting but awkward elevator ride
D. tell us some unwritten rules of elevator etiquette
29.According to Gray, when people enter an elevator, they usually _____.
A. turn around and greet one another
B. try to keep a distance from other people
C. make eye contact with those in the elevator
D. look around or examine their phone
30. Which of the following describes how people usually stand when there are at least two people in an elevator?
31.According to the article, people feel awkward in lifts because of _____.
A. someone’s odd behaviors
B. their eye contact with one another
C. their unfamiliarity with one another
D. the lack of space
D
Most young people enjoy some forms of physical activities. It may be walking, cycling or swimming, or in winter, skating or skiing. It may be a game of some kind, football, hockey, golf, or tennis, it may be mountaineering.
Those who have a passion for climbing high and difficult mountains are often looked upon with astonishment. Why are men and women willing to suffer cold and hardship, and to take risks on high mountaineering? This astonishment is caused probably by the difference between mountaineering and other forms of activity to which men give their leisure.
Mountaineering is a sport and not a game. There are no man made rules, as there are for such game as golf and football. There are, of course, rules of a differen t kind, which would be dangerous to ignore, but it is this freedom from man made rules that makes mountaineering attractive to many people. Those who climb mountains are free to use their own methods.
If we pare mountaineering with other more familiar sports, we might think that one big difference is that mountaineering is not a “game”. We would be mistaken in this assumption. There are, it is true, no “matches” between “teams” of climbers, but when climbers are on a rock face linked by a rope on which their lives may depend, there is obviously teamwork.
The mountain climber knows that he may have to fight forces that are stronger and more powerful than man. He has to fight the forces of nature. His sport requires high mental and physical capacities.
A mountain climber continues to improve in skill year after year. A skier is probably past his prime by the age of thirty, and most international tennis champions are in their early twenties. But it is not unusual for a man of fifty or sixty to climb the highest mountains in the Alps. They may take more time than younger men, but they probably climb with more skill and less wasted effort, and they certainly experience enjoyment.
32. What sports are popular among people in winter in the passage?
A. Soccer and golf
B. Mountaineering
C. Cycling and hockey
D. Skiing and skating
33. The underlined word “passion” in Paragraph 2 could best be replaced by.
A. better feeling
B. good way
C. strong emotion
D. enough affection
34. We know from the passage that .
A. it is possible for an old man of fifty or sixty to climb the Alps
B. physical quality is more important than mental one for climbers
C. a mountain climber passes his best by the age of thirty
D. mountaineering has no appeal for people
35. What is the best title for the passage?
A. Sports in Winter
B. Mountaineering
C. Team Work in Climbing
D. The Quality for Mountaineering

W: Officer, officer, I have something important to report. I have just had my money stolen.
M: Before you begin, why not take a seat and calm down a little? Don’t be too excited . It won’t help us catch the thief.
W: Yes, you are right. Where should I start?
M: From the beginning. When did it take place?
W: About ten minutes ago.
M: And where exactly was it?
W: It was probably in the moving stair ing up from the underground. I think somebody had been following me since I left the bank.
M: The bank?
W: Well, you see. I went to a bank to exchange some traveler's cheques for money, so I can buy my airline ticket back home.
M: Yes, yes. How much did you exchange?
W: About $4,500.
M: And how much was stolen?
W: All of it.
M: I see.

Good afternoon, everybody. Thank you for inviting me here to talk about safety in the dormitory and personal security. First, a few points to bear in mind. You’ll notice the doors of your dorm have two types of locks. Make sure you double lock your door however long you are going out for. Make sure all the windows are closed when you go out. If you have got expensive equipment in your room, first of all, insure it. So many people lose things and haven’t got insurance. About personal security, avoid walking alone late at night, especially females. Avoid dark streets, and try to stick to the well-lit areas whenever possible. Also if you know you are going to be out late, make sure you’ve got enough money for a taxi to get home, or arrange to stay with friends for the night. The university actually offers free self-defense classes. I hope it’s something you’d never have to use, but it is certainly worth having such classes.24401 5F51 彑40559 9E6F 鹯31183 79CF 秏24847 610F 意23677 5C7D 屽31098 797A 祺28504 6F58 潘~40837 9F85 龅21275 531B 匛33331 8233 舳27526 6B86 殆L。
