一、高中英语阅读理解教育文化类
1.阅读理解
It's a common belief that the roles actors play might somehow reflect their true personalities. It's usually not true, but British actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge, 34, is an exception.
Just like Fleabag, the character she played in the comedy-drama series of the same name, Waller-Bridge feels that her life is a mess. "It's just really wonderful to know that a dirty and messed up woman can make it to the Emmys," she said. She may be "messed up", but Variety magazine calls her an "all-around icon".
Last month, Waller-Bridge took home three Emmy awards for her work on Fleabag —best writing in a comedy series, best lead actress, and best comedy series.
Her success is partly because of her family. Waller-Bridge was brought up in a free environment. Her mother always told her, "You can be whatever you want if you imagine it." So Waller-Bridge broke all the rules about what a "good" girl should do. "Our laws and moral codes don't apply —she lives without fear of consequence," The Sun noted.
That fearlessness extends to being authentic (真实的) in her writing and acting. Unlike the can-do heroines and strong, successful women in many TV dramas, Waller-Bridge shows a flawed but real character. The character Fleabag was a screw-up who always found a way to say or do the wrong thing. "It resonated with the lives of stressed-out women everywhere in reality — doing their best to find balance in their lives," a viewer wrote on US movie website.
Villanelle in Killing Eve, another hit TV series developed by Waller-Bridge, was a little bit violent but showed no interest for the rules others created, which make many people see themselves in her.
"People have been scared to write characters like these. But I think, now, women are so relieved to have this new template (样板). And, aren't we all a bit of everything?" Waller-Bridge said in an interview with Indian Express.
With such courage and sincerity, Waller-Bridge is, without a doubt, a "golden girl" in Hollywood, Australian news website The New Daily commented.

A.What helped Waller-Bridge succeed in comedy.
B.The popularity of the comedy-drama series Fleabag.

(2)How did Waller-Bridge's parents influence her growth?
A.They pushed her to follow social codes.
B.They constantly encouraged her to be herself.
C.They always reminded her to be curious and fearless.
D.They taught her to write and act when she was young.
(3)The underlined phrase "resonated with" in Paragraph 7 probably means "__________".
A.messed up

2.阅读理解
Dear Mom,
The big question which shocked parents often ask their child after a confrontational(冲突) moment is, "Where did you get this attitude from?" I know you hate to admit it, but I get much of my determined and strong-willed nature from you.
Mom, I know it's hard dealing with the teenage anxiety and the ever-changing moods that
come with raising a child. But you should also marvel at the fact that I've made it this far, that I'm healthy and happy.
When I was small, I would attend barbecues and family events and wander away from my parents. It wouldn't be long before someone would stop me to ask whether I was my mother's daughter.
"Your mom is Melissa," they'd say, a warm smile on their faces. "Is that Tight?" I would nod. I think parents feel much hurt when their child talks back or defies them, I was shocked at this statement. To me, I acted nothing like you, Mom.
No one says, "I know you're Melissa's daughter because of your eyes and nose". It's the character traits(特点)that seal the deal. Dry wit, intelligence, and yes, maybe a little bit of attitude-these are the things I am grateful I have received from you. There's nothing wrong with having attitude.
Like for most black individuals, attitude is what defines you and me, and it's what keeps us from being mentally oppressed and defeated. Attitude is a non-violent form of protection and confrontation-where would we be in the world without this tool? Surely not where we are.
Mom, when people ask me where I get my attitude from, I tell them: you. And when they ask me where I got my drive, my work ethic, my good hair, and my sense of humor, I say you as well. I will always say this.
When I'm asked why I am the way I am, why I refuse to allow others to hurt me with their words or actions and why I think and speak about things openly and without fear. I'll tell them it's because of you.
I'll complain to you about the arguments between us that leave me wondering about how God made us so much alike that we hardly even noticed. But I'll tell them about you.
Love,
Malahni (1)In this letter, Malahni mainly expressed her to her mother.
plaint
B.love
C.argument
D.anxiety

Recently, people in the US education have got extremely worried because a new report has shown that American students have a maths problem.
The 2015 Programme for International Student Assessment(评估)(PISA) shows maths scores in the US getting lower and no improvement in science or reading. PISA tests 15-year-olds from different countries and regions in their maths, science and reading skills. About 540,000 students
from 72 countries and regions took part in the assessment in 2015.
US scores in reading and science were about the same as three years ago, leaving Americans near the middle of the bigger group. But the situation in maths is much more worrying. The US average score was 470,below the OECD(经合组织) test average of 490,meaning the US was No.40 among the 72 countries and areas. It was 12 points lower than in 2012 and 18 points lower than in 2009. So, what is going on with American students' maths skills?
One reason may be that the US does not teach maths in enough depth." Students are often good at answering the first part of a problem in the United States," said Andreas Schleicher, director of education and skills at OECD." But as soon as students have to go deeper and answer the more complicated part of a problem, they have difficulties." In comparison, many high-performing countries and regions in maths teach a lot less but focus in much greater depth, especially when you look at East Asia, Japan and Singapore, according to Schleicher.
Another reason may be the fact that many people in the US are unwilling to travel to foreign countries to learn better teaching practices." One of our biggest challenges in the US is that the teachers are not going out and seeing what high-performing countries do differently," said Wendy Kopp, who started Teach for America ,in a news programme.
(1)When it comes to the 2015 PISA results, people in the US education are more concerned about .
A. the US average score
B. the differences from the previous PISA
C. American students' performance in maths
D. American students' situation in science and reading skills
(2)What can we learn from the passage?
A.American students are not interested in simple maths problems.
B.American students are unwilling to go abroad for further study.
C.American maths teachers envy high-performing countries better teaching skills.
D.American maths teachers seldom teach students how to solve complicated problems.
(3)What is the main purpose of the passage?
A.To inform people of American students' 2015 PISA results.
B.To analyse the causes of American students' problems with maths.
C.To stress the importance of learning maths well to America students.
D.To give American maths teachers some advice on how to teach maths.

Chewing gum(口香糖) has its origins in ancient times from Mayans to Greeks who would chew the resin(树脂)of certain trees for medical purposes and maybe even for freshening breath. The history of chewing gum continued as Native Americans introduced it to European settlers.
Chewing gum hit the market after Santa Anna brought a case of chicle(糖胶树脂) from Mexico to New York. Santa Anna gave some to the part-time inventor Thomas Adams Thomas Adams changed the gum and marketed it as a candy. The invention took off and was known as Chiclets. In 1900 Frank Fleer coate chewing gum with sugar, and in 1906 Blibber Blubber was invented, but never made it to market. The gum was named Dubble Bubble. Pink was the only color which could be used at the time, and Dubble Bubble has remained pink ever since.

5.阅读理解
My challenge for you is this: to read a book for 15minutes every single day for a month.
Let me explain a bit by telling you where the challenge came from. I have many things in common with my dad, like music taste and sense of humor, but sadly reading isn't one of them. I can happily spend a whole day with a book, but my dad can't read a book for longer than about 5 minutes. He reads emails, websites and papers for work, but not books. He's busy, so I think sitting down to read for just 15 minutes a day is a good way to relax and to introduce him to reading.
My dad is not the only person who avoids books. I know lots of people would rather relax on their computers or in front of the TV. Everyone is different and has their own interests, but I think there are lots of benefits to reading, which screen﹣based activities don't have.
Firstly, it's better for your eyes. Looking at screens can be very stressful for your eye muscles, and clearly you should avoid looking at screens for an hour before bed, to get a good night's sleep. One thing I personally love reading, is being transported to another world﹣I often forget the time or things around me! Reading is a great way to switch off before you go to bed, because you think more about the world of the book, rather than the real world, so you can truly relax. I know you can be transported to a different world in a film or a TV show, but I think books do it better. I also enjoy hearing what people are doing and finding out what they think. Reading gives me the chance to get to know hundreds of new people! It also teaches you to see things from other people's point of view, and understand other people's decisions or opinions. With a book, you can hear everything a character is thinking or feeling﹣you really can be inside someone else's head!
So give it a go! Take 15 minutes when you are waking up, going to bed, eating lunch, or having a coffee. If you read a lot, why not try 15 minutes of an English book, or pass the challenge on to someone else? Good luck, and happy reading!

6.阅读理解
Why is it that many people who have suffered a major shock, such as divorce or death of a family member, seem to be weaker against a variety of major and minor illness? One common idea among psychologists has been that people could deal with suffering more effectively if they were able to understand and accept it. Indeed, many experts stress the value of expressing thoughts and feelings connected with upsetting events.
Recently, a team of medical researchers studied the links between describing psychologically painful events and long-term health. In one experiment healthy college students were asked to write about either personally disturbing experiences or ordinary topics over a period of four days. In the months afterwards, students who had chosen to show their inner thoughts and feelings in their writing visited the health center for illness much less often than those who had written about everyday topics.
In an experiment that followed, another group of healthy students were given the four-day writing exercises. Some chose to write about highly personal and upsetting experiences (including loneliness, problems with family and friends, and health). When questioned immediately afterwards, they said that they did not feel any better. However, their blood samples(样本) taken before and after the experiment showed evidence of an improved resistance to illness. The white cells that fight off bacteria and viruses had increased their reaction and sensitivity to these "invaders". This trend continued over the following six weeks, when another blood sample was taken. Individuals who showed the best results were those who wrote about topics that they had actively kept from telling others about.
The researchers suggested that failure to face up to painful experience can be a form of stress
itself, and can increase the possibility of illness. It follows, then, that actively dealing with a major shock makes possible its understanding and acceptance. The answer is not to suffer in silence. It may not always be possible to talk about personal problems, but writing them down will help the body to fight disease in the long run.
(1)In the first experiment, the students who wrote about painful events ________.
A.started to suffer psychological problems
B.enjoyed sharing their inner thought and feelings
C.were less likely to seek treatment for sickness
D.couldn't deal with suffering effectively
(2)People who wrote about personal problems in the second experiment ________.
A.had more bacteria and viruses in their blood
B.had decreased feelings of loneliness
C.showed an improved white cell reaction
D.did better in their writing tasks
(3)What does the underlined word "invaders" refer to?
A.The white cells.
B.Bacteria and viruses.
C.Resistance to illness.
D.The reaction and sensitivity of the cells.
(4)What is the best title of the passage?
A.Suffering and Health
B.Inner Thoughts and Feelings
C.Illness and Health
D.Mental Illness and Social Acceptance
【答案】(1)C

Most parents realize that a diet of soda and candy isn't a healthy choice, but what should they do if their children are picky eaters who refuse fruit and vegetables? There are ways to help kids eat healthily and avoid involving many fights at the dinner table.
Jane E. Brody wrote an article for The New York Times in August 2015. The articled title is Another Approach to Raising Healthy Eaters. In this article, she shares her experience as a child who was a picky eater. She provides some useful views for parents who have children that are very picky about what foods they will eat.
It turns out that demanding (要求)that a child eat something doesn't really work well. The command to "clean your plate" can end up teaching children that it is normal to continue eating after their stomach is full. This habit may continue into adulthood and can lead to overweight bodies or food disorders.
Instead, parents can try other methods that might actually influence their children to try new foods. One very simple method is to offer your children a small amount of newly introduced food.
A large amount can seem intimidating (令人生畏的).One or two bites might feel less "scary" to try.
Another really easy thing parents can do is to read the ingredients (成分)on food instructions. You might be surprised by the kinds of food that have some form of sugar added to them. One way to be a healthier eater is to reduce the amount of sugar a person eats. Read the ingredient labels, and pick a product that doesn't have extra sugar added. Start making your own type of your child' s favorite foods at home instead of buying processed (加工过的)ones. Consider organic foods over the popular, well-known foods that are full of sugar.
Sometimes, all it takes to get a child to eat healthily is to offer a food in a different way. Kids that hate raw cauliflower (菜花)might eat it after the vegetable is roasted. It is possible to turn a head of cauliflower into rice. It looks the same and your child may not notice the difference between it and real rice.
(1)What do we know about Jane E. Brody?
A.She wrote a book to help kids eat healthily.
B.Her article for The New York Times was written in winter.
C.She shared some methods with parents having picky children.
D.Her experience as a picky eater once made her parents annoyed.
(2)The command of cleaning one's plate usually_____.
A.doesn't work at all
B.leads to children's stomachache
C.ends up with children's hating eating
D.gets children into a bad eating habit
(3)What can parents do if they want their children to try a new food?
A.Offer a small amount of it.
B.Give all of the food to them.
C.Tell them the ingredients in it.
D.Reduce the amount of sugar in it.
(4)Which of the following can help your kid become a healthy eater?
A.Making him eat up all food.
B.Only eating organic foods.
C.Buying processed foods.
D.Eating less sugar.

Other people may have their own ideas about our lives. We can value their advice, but we don't have to take it to heart.
Our parents have dreams for us. They want us to do well in school and to do whatever is necessary to reach our highest potential (潜力). Later in life, friends may try to set us up with their ideas of the perfect partner or the perfect job. People close to us may have ideas about how we should live our lives, ideas that usually come from love and the desire for us to be happy. Other times, they come from a place of need within them whether it is a parent who wants us to live out his or her dreams or a friend who wants us to play a good role. Whatever the case, we can appreciate and consider those people's advice, but ultimately we must follow our own guidance.
There may come a time when all the suggestions can become overbearing (专横的). We may feel that the people we love don't agree on our judgment, which can hurt our feelings. It can affect the choices we make for our lives by making us doubt ourselves before we've had a chance to decide what we want. We can tell our loved ones how much we appreciate their thoughts and ideas, but that we need to live our own lives and make our own decisions. We can explain that they need to let us learn from our own experiences. When they see that we are happy with our lives and the path we are taking to reach our goals, they can make sure that all we need them to do is to share in our joy.
