We will think of a market as a set of economic forces called supply and demand. Supply forces tend to bring goods and services into production. Demand forces tend to result in consumption of those goods and services. Supply and demand forces interact to form a price. Since markets play a large role in our economy, we say we have a market economy.

2. The term market can be considered as a set of economic forces called supply and demand. ( )

5. Markets play an important role in our market economy. ( )
Passage 2
The speed of work, new technology and shift work are the causes of work related illnesses
which cost industry $ 1.3 billion a year. Company culture is often an important factor. Many employees have to spend long hours at work to get promotion. This is often the case in office jobs where companies expect people to work longer for their basic hours as anything else is disloyal.
Stress cerates problems for the individual and the organization. It is a danger to the employee’s health, family and social life. But employers often ignore the effects in the work place: absenteeism, poor work and dangerous health and safety factor. When people are tired, they make mistakes and mistakes cost money.
Questions:
1.What are the causes of work related illnesses?
2.What does the company expect its employees to do?
3.What does stress result in? Is it dangerous?
4.Do employers worry about the employee’s health, family and the like?
5.If people are tired, what will happen?
Passage 3

they sent me on a course in personnel management. So from 1987 to 1992 I was in personnel department. I really liked my job, but it didn’t seem to be getting anywhe re. I left in 1992 to work for ICIA, the chemical company. They took me to the training department, where I trained new sales people. In 1994 they sent me overseas to train local staff. I lived in Europe for a couple of years. I came back at the end of 1996, and was promoted to Training Manager, which is what I am doing now.

2.
In the world of business, it is not always easy for women to do the same things as the men. Consider the working dinner.
In order to do your job well, it is important to sometimes meet clients and business contracts away from the office in a more relaxed atmosphere like sports ground or restaurant. But it
is tough to invite men out for a game of golf or tennis. Men usually prefer to play sports with other men. You might think that restaurants are the perfect playing field. But they can be dangerous ground. If people from the office see two men they know having dinner together, they think it is business. If colleagues see a woman dining with a man, they often wonder if it is another kind of business.
