第三部分阅读理解(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)
请认真阅读下列短文,从短文后各题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳答案。

A
Famous centenarians (百岁老人) still active in arts, science are in no mood to retire. "Those who stand still, die," is one of Oliveira's favorite phrases. He knows from experience what it means, as the Portuguese film director has reached the age of 102 and is still active in his profession. Every year, Oliveira shoots a film and is currently working on his next project. "You have to work, work, work in order to forget that death is not far away," he said. When asked about his age, Oliveira said with some humility: "It's down to mother nature. It gave to me what it took from others."
Being both mentally and physically fit in old age is partly a matter of luck, but it also has something to do with character. Not every white-haired person is wise and social skills, openness and the ability to train the brain are essential for senior citizens.
Along with the architect Oscar Niemeyer (103), Nobel laureate Montalcini (101) and director Kurt Maetzig (100), Oliveira is one of those people of whom it would be very wrong to think as members of a listless elderly generation.
Another master in his profession is the architect Oscar Niemeyer. The 103-year-old Brazilian is best known for his futuristic-looking(未来派的)buildings in Brasilia, but he also speaks out on behalf of the poor. "The role of the architect is to struggle for a better world where we can develop a form of architecture that serves everyone and not just a privileged few," said Niemeyer recently. He spends almost every day working in his office in Copacabana, and even when he falls ill he
keeps working on ideas: After a gallbladder (胆囊) operation he composed a samba tune (桑巴舞曲) in the clinic.
Another man who could sing a song about age is 107-year-old Heesters. The Dutch-born opera singer spent most of his life performing in Germany, where he still works. Recently Heesters said: "I want to be at least 108-years-old." He also plans to keep performing. "Should I just sit at home and wait until they come and pick me up?" Heesters has not given up trying to add to his tally of awards and is looking for a "good stage role".
Italian scientist Rita Levi-Montalcini, who is 101-year-old and is still active in medical science, has described the force that keeps driving her on: "Progress is created through imperfection." In 1986 she and her lab colleague were awarded the Nobel Prize for Medicine for their work on nerve growth factor. She's convinced that humans grow on challenges.
With so many brilliant examples given, we can see clearly that age is no barrier to some high achievers.
56. From the first two paragraphs, we can see ______.
A. being active at 102 is achievable for everybody
B. Oliveira owes his long life to his mother’s help
C. being fit in old age is a matter of luck and character
D. social skills and wisdom are difficult for the senior
57. How many centenarians are mentioned in this passage?
A. 4
B. 5
C. 6
D. 7
58. By saying "Should I just sit at home and wait until they come and pick me up?", Heesters
shows us he ________.
A. wants to sit or lie in comfort
B. is waiting for people to pick him up
C. is willing to work till he dies
D. prefers to give performance at home
B
Can people change their skin color without suffering like pop king Michael Jackson? Perhaps yes. Scientists have found the gene that determines skin color.
The gene comes in two versions, one of which is found in 99 per cent of Europeans. The other is found in 93 to 100 per cent of Africans, researchers at Pennsylvania State University report in the latest issue of Science.
Scientists have changed the color of a dark-striped zebra fish to uniform gold by inserting a version of the pigment(色素) gene into a young fish. As with humans, zebra fish skin color is determined by pigment cells, which contain melanosomes(黑色素). The number, size and darkness of melanosomes per pigment cell determines skin color.
It appears that, like the golden zebra fish, light-skinned Europeans also have a mutation(变异) in the gene for melanosome production. This results in less pigmented skin.
However, Keith Cheng, leader of the research team, points out that the mutation is different in human and zebra fish genes.
Humans acquired dark skin in Africa about 1.5 million years ago to protect bodies from ultra-violet rays of the sun(太阳光紫外线), which can cause skin cancer.
But when modern humans leave Africa to live in northern latitudes, they need more sunlight on their skin to produce vitamin D. So the related gene changes, according to Cheng.
Asians have the same version of the gene as Africans, so they probably acquired their light skin through the action of some other gene that affects skin color, said Cheng.
The new discovery could lead to medical treatments for skin cancer. It also could lead to research into ways to change skin color without damaging it like chemical treatment did on Michael Jackson.
59. The passage mainly tells us that ________.
A. people can not change their skin color without any pain
B. the new discovery could lead to search into ways to change skin color safely
C. pop king Michael Jackson often changed his skin color as he liked
D. scientists have found out th at people’s skin color is determined by the gene
60. It can be inferred from the passage that ________.
A. nowadays people who want to change their skin color have to suffer a lot from the damage
caused by the chemical treatment
B. Europeans and Africans have the same gene
C. the new discovery could help to find medical treatments for skin cancer
D. there are two kinds of genes
61. Scientists have done an experiment on a dark-striped zebra fish in order to ________.
A. find the different genes of humans’
B. prove the humans’ skin color is determined by the pigment gene
C. find out the reason why the Africans’ skin color is dark
D. find out the ways of changing people’s skin color
62. The reason why Europeans are light-skinned is probably that ________.
A. they are born light-skinned people
B. light-skinned Europeans have mutation in the gene for melanosome production
C. they have fewer activities outside
D. they pay much attention to protecting their skin
C
When I was a child I never said, "When I grow up, I want to be a CEO," but here I am.When I look back on my career, I realize the road to becoming a CEO isn't a straight, clearly clarified path.In fact, no two paths are the same. But whether you want to be a boss one day or not, there's a lot to learn from how leaders rise to the top of successful companies.
As this series of stories shows, the paths to becoming a CEO may vary, but the people in that position share the qualities of commitment, work ethic(守则)and a strong desire for building something new.And every CEO take risks along the way—putting your life savings on the line to start a software company or leaving a big business to be one of the first employees at a startup.
I grew up in Minnesota, and learned how to be an entrepreneur(企业家)from my father, who has run a small business for almost 30 years.I went to Georgetown University and tried a lot of business activities in college with varying degrees of success. And I always had a dream job pattern: to walk to work, work for myself and build something for consumers.
I'm only 29, so it's been a quick ride to CEO.Out of college, I worked for AOL as a product manager, then moved to Revolution Health and ran the consumer product team.In mid-2007 I left Revolution Health and started LivingSocial with several other colleagues, where I became a CEO.Career advice: Don't figure out where you want to work, or even what industry you'd like to work at.Figure out what makes you do so.What gives you a really big rush? Answer why you like things, not what you like doing...and then apply it to your work life. Also, just because you're graduating, don't stop learning.Read more books than you did in college. If you do, and
they're not, you're really well-positioned to succeed in whatever you do.
63. What can we know from the first paragraph?
A.The author hasn't achieved his childhood ambition.
B.The author thinks there is some easy way to become a CEO.
C.The author had an ambition of becoming a CEO in his childhood.
D.The author believes success stories of CEOs can be beneficial to everybody.
64. According to the author, successful CEOs should _____.
A.try not to take risks
B.stay in the same business
C.have a strong sense of creativity
D.save every possible penny
65. What can we know about the author from the passage?
A.He started LivingSocial when he was still a student of Georgetown University.
B.He used to run the consumer product team for AOL.
C.His business activities at college ended up in more failure than success.
D.His father had far-reaching influence on him.
66. Which of the following proverbs may the author agree with according to the last paragraph?
A.Well begun is half done.
B.Everything comes to him who waits.
C.Time and tide wait for no man.
D.One is never too old to learn.
D
Special trees that grow faster, fight pollution, produce better wood, and even sense chemical attacks are being planted by scientists in the US.
When 40 per cent of Hawaii's US$14 million-a-year papaya (木瓜)industry was destroyed by a virus five years ago, work began on creating genetically engineered (转基因的) trees.
Researchers successfully introduced seeds that were designed to resist the virus. Since then, more and more people have been testing genetically engineered trees.
Some researchers put special bacteria into trees to help them grow faster and produce better wood. Others are trying to create trees that can clean polluted soil.
Meanwhile fruit farmers are looking for trees that are strong enough to resist worms, and paper companies want trees that produce more wood and therefore more paper.
The Pentagon (五角大楼,美国国防部所在地) even gave the researchers US$500,000 this year after they developed a pine tree that changes its colours if it senses a chemical attack.
So far, the poplar, eucalyptus (杨树与桉树), apple and coffee trees are among those being engineered. A ll these can be done today because we have a better understanding of tree genomes (基因组).
However, some people fear that the genetically engineered trees will cause dangerous results. They are worried that the new trees will breed with natural species and change the balance of the forest environment.
“It could be destructive,” said Jim Diamond, an environmentalist. “Trees are what is left of our natural environment and home to many endangered species.”
But researchers insist that science could give nature a fighting chance against both natural and man-made dangers.
They hope to answer the critics by stopping the new trees from breeding, so their effect on the environment can be controlled.
67.Which kind of tree is not the ones that scientists are planting in the US?
A. Trees that worms can't hurt.
B. Trees that can react to a chemical attack.
C. Trees that can resist wind better.
D. Genetically engineered trees.
68.What caused the American scientists to work on special trees?
A. They think science could give nature a fighting chance against both natural and
man-made dangers.
B. Great numbers of trees have been lost due to attacks by viruses.
C. Researchers successfully introduced seeds designed to resist the virus.
D. Tree genomes are mapped out so scientists know how to improve trees.
69.Which of the following was probably the first kind of trees being engineered?
A. Papaya.
B. Pine.
C. Apple.
D. Poplar.
70.Why did critics think engineered trees dangerous? Because _______.
A. these trees may eventually destroy the balance of nature
B. everything except trees has been genetically engineered
C. trees are home to many endangered species
D. these trees will replace normal trees

第四部分任务型阅读(共10小题;每小题1分,满分10分)
请认真阅读下面短文,并根据所给内容在文章后表格中的空格里填入最恰当的单词。

注意:每空格一个单词。

How to Graduate from College with a High GPA (Grade Point Average)
One Hour a Day
One of the most challenging things about college is time management. It’s not that you don’t have enough. In fact you usually have too much time, and as a result time gets wasted. If you take good notes in class, and review your notes for one hour every day before going to sleep, you make use of the power of the subconscious to absorb information and by the time exams come around you’ll know all the material on a subconscious level, and you don’t have to sit up the night before exams. Considering the amount of free time you usually have in college, one hour a day is not much in view of the long-term benefits.
Select Easy Courses
In your first term of college, load up on as many “easy A’s” as possible. There are several reasons for this. The first term of college is full of excitement as it is, and there are probably even more today than ever thanks to Facebook, Twitter, and more. The last thing you want to do is add difficult coursework to this. The other reason why selecting easy courses is powerful is that it allows you to start off your college career with an extremely high GPA. Good grades have less and less of an impact on your GPA later in your college career and raising your GPA becomes much more difficult. Selecting easy courses in the first term also leaves room for the occasional failure when coursework becomes more challenging.
Join (or Form) Study Groups
If you go to a large public school where classes often have 700 plus people, study groups are an extremely effective way to ensure good grades. Study groups are often led by older students who have taken the course and received A’s in that partic ular course. They also often provide you with resources such as practice tests, practice problems, and many others that might not be provided by professors.
Use Personal Development
I can honestly say I didn’t involve myself in personal development when I was in college. Looking back I realize that I suffered from low self-respect and a very unhealthy self-image. Without doubt this had a negative impact on my GPA. But, if I had combined personal development techniques with the three steps above, my college career would have turned out very different.
If you have already started school, I recommend developing a strategy that applies these four ideas to your current schedule. If you haven’t started school yet, do some research on easier courses and what study groups might be available. If you follow through and commit to the four recommendations above, you’ll set yourself up for a very successful first term, and hopefully a very successful college career. Good luck to all of you starting the college journey.

Good afternoon, everyone!
The topic of my speech to day is “Do trust us—a generation born in the 90s”.
Living in an environment full of fierce competition, we, a generation born in the 90s, are faced with more problems in entering higher schools and getting employed. Under these circumstances, we are develo ping our special manners and values, which has raised people’s concern.
They worry we care too much about ourselves and are unwilling to cooperate with others, which makes it hard for us to achieve success in whatever we do. Besides, they consider us as lacking in determination, and this is what it takes to do any job well. Without it, we may easily give up in time of difficulty. They are also concerned that we are so eager to win instant fame that we follow fashion blindly, which will in turn ruin our values and future.
However, we, a generation born in the 90s, have our own advantages despite some weaknesses. Firstly, we have the courage to meet challenges and take risks, which helps realize our dreams. In addition, we are quick-minded and creative. We can do our work more efficien tly. Yet, we still need to learn more from those experienced. Please do trust us!
Thank you for your listening!。
