Teaching Aims:
After learning this period , the students should be able to :
1.Learn about kinds of knowledge about manners .
2.Talk about how to behave well in public in English .
3.Develop the students’ good manners behavour habits .
Teaching importance and difficulties:
Vocabulary: politely, litter, run, pick, turn, keep quiet, drop litter, pick flowers.
Sentences:
You are old enough to learn about manners now.
You are never too old to learn.
Don’t drop litter everywhere.
Teaching aids:
Smartboard , pictures of good manners , pictures of bad manners
Teaching methods:
Task-basic Approach, listening and speaking
Teaching Procedure:
Welcome to the unit
Step 1 Warming up and Leading in
1.A free talk about good manners in class.
2、Show the pictures about some good manners and bad manners on the screen and talk about them one by one like this:
T: What is he/ she doing? Is he/ she doing the right thing? What should he/ she do?
S: He/ She is...
While talking, teach and learn some new words and phrases:
drop litter everywhere
leave the tap running
obey traffic rules
Step 2 Presentation
1、T: I’m glad to see that you know how to do the right things in public places. Now we are coming to “Unit 5 Good manners”. Look at P65 and finish Part A.Then check the answers.
1) T:What should the boy do when he crosses the road?
S:He should obey the traffic rules.
2) T:What is the girl doing?
S:She is picking flowers in the park.
3) T:What should we do in the library?
S:We should keep quiet in the library.
4) T:What are the man and woman doing?
S:They are dropping litter everywhere.
5) T:What is the man doing?
S:He is queuing for his turn.
6) T:What did the boy do?
S:He left the tap running.
2、Who is doing right and who is doing wrong? Why?
Step 3 Listening and Speaking
1. Amy and her cousin Shirley are discussing what they should and should not do in the library. Listen and answer:
1)What should we do in the library? ( We should keep quiet . We should keep the library clean.
We should put the books back after reading)
2)What should we not do in the library? (We shouldn’t chat in the library. We shouldn’t drop
litter everywhere. We shouldn’t write in books.)
2.Read Part B after the tape, and then try to act out in groups。
3. Discussion (A pair work)
Think of the following situations. Work in pairs and discuss what they should do and should not do in public place like in a cinema, on the bus... Then ask some of them to show their conversation. Step 4 Comic strip
Step 1 Presentation
1.T: Do Eddie and Hobo have good manners?
2. Listen to the conversation between Eddie and Hobo and answer the following questions.
1)Do you think Eddie really wants to teach Hobo? (No.)
2)What does Eddie teach Hobo?
(First, always share things with others. Second, don’t cut in on others. Always wait politely.)3)What does Eddie really want from Hobo? (The cake.)
Check the answers.
Step 2 Practice
1Now please repeat after the tape . Pay attention to your pronunciation and intonation .
2.Now work in pairs . One will play the role of Eddie and the other Hobo. Read the conversation.
3.Now it’s your turn to act out the conversation.
Step 3 Language points

Complete the exercises on the screen.
Step 5 Homework
1. Recite the two conversations.
2. Remember the new words and phrases by heart.
3.Ss make dialogues about good manners in class, in a library, in public, at school and so on.
4. Search more information about good manners in different countries.
