有的品种叶片密生黄色斑点，被人们喜爱地称为星点木，有的品种叶片上有黄色的纵向条纹，能分泌出一种表淡的香味，人们称它为香龙血树，有的品种叶片上嵌有白色、乳白色、米黄色的条纹，人们又称之为三色龙血树。

龙血树的茎干，能分泌出鲜红色的树脂，为之“龙血”龙血树的美名便由此而得。

形态特征常绿小灌木，高可达4m，皮灰色。

叶无柄，密生于茎顶部，厚纸质，宽条形或倒披针形，长10~35cm，宽1~5．5cm，基部扩大抱茎，近基部较狭，中脉背面下部明显，呈肋状，顶生大型圆锥花序长达６０cm，１～３朵簇生。

花白色、芳香。

浆果球形黄色。

同属多种和变种用于园林观赏。

又不能当柴禾，真是一无用处，所以又叫“不才树”。

生长习性龙血树性喜高温多湿，喜光，光照充足，叶片色彩艳丽。

不耐寒，冬季温度约15C，最低温度5~10C。

温度过低，因根系吸水不足，叶尖及叶缘会出现黄褐色斑块，喜疏松、排水良好、含腐殖质丰富的土壤。

繁殖方法龙血树引入中国后，除少数热带地区增育出种子外，其他地区主要采用高压和插条的方法进行无性繁殖。

压条繁殖龙血树的茎干大多直立生长，发枝少。

植株生长数年后，基部叶片脱落，自然失去观赏价值。

根据这种情况，莳养者可在5至7月的高温湿润季节，进行高压繁殖。

方法是：在植株茎干的适当部位，进行环状切割，环口宽为1.8-2.2厘米，深至木质部，并用小刀剥去环口皮层，用干净湿布擦去切口外溢的液汁用5000-1000ppm的萘乙酸水溶液涂抹切口上端皮层，再用白色塑料薄膜扎于切口下端，理顺做成漏斗状，装上用苔藓和山泥土混合配制的生根茎质，环包刀口，灌一次透水，扎紧江膜上端，再把植株置于室外莳养，加强肥水管理。

在我家的小院子里,有一棵树龄已久的龙血树。

这棵树伴随着我的成长,见证了我童年的点点滴滴。

龙血树的树干有些肿胀,暗红色的树皮似乎在述说着它的沧桑历史。

虽然年岁已高,但它依旧郁郁葱葱,每年春夏交替时都能长出嫩绿的新叶。

阳光穿过叶片,在地面投射下绿色的光斑,就像一池清泉在闪烁。

但是龙血树的观赏价值高和稀有都不足以体现出它的特别，那特别在哪里呢？我们就来说说它的名字吧，龙血树，龙血树，那它的“血”呢？其实你只要用刀将它的皮划破，鲜红鲜红的“血”就自然地流出来了。

“血”我们已经找到了原因，那又为什么是“龙血”呢？其实关于“龙血”还有一个流传至今的神话故事呢。

“很久以前，云南省西双版纳有一条河。

因为河中有九条龙，所以这条河被命名为“九龙河”。

原来河中的龙每天都在帮助那里的村民，所以村民们认为龙是一种极其神圣的动物。

但是突然有一天，龙厌倦了以前的生活，杀死了所有的当地人。

一个名叫雅的仙女再也受不了了，杀了龙。

在他死之前，龙在山上吐了一口精血。

几年后，他在山顶上吐出了一种树，叫做龙血树。

这就是龙血树名字的由来。
