A pet is an animal tamed and kept as a favorite and treated with love. The range of animals kept by people as pets today is very wide. For example, rabbits, mice, goldfish, pigeons, horses, pigs, or even snakes are kept as pets by different people. However, dogs and cats are still the most popular pets, and about half the households in Britain own one or the other. The importance of pets in British life is reflected in many ways. In the past, landowners liked to be portrayed with their dogs and horses and many such pictures can be seen in art. In many families, pets are regarded as family members. That’s why British people often say “Love me, love my dog.”

What is a fable?
A short allegorical narrative making a moral point, traditionally by means of animal characters who speak and act like human beings.
Examples: 1. In Aesop's fable "The Ants and the Grasshopper" we are taught that industriousness is a virtue and the lazy often go without their supper. 2. "In the first place, the fable must exhibit the animals as being endowed with human reason, and initiated into all the customs and conditions of our mode of living, so that their behavior has nothing at all odd in it." -- Jacob Grimm
