German artist HA Schult is an unusual artist who uses trash(废物) to make sculptures.“We are living in the time of garbage,” says Schult.“I created a thousand sculptures of garbage. They are a mirror of ourselves.” Here,Schult was talking about his 1,000 trash sculptures in the form of humans. He first exhibited them in 1996 in the western German state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
“They are social sculptures,” he explains.“They are not only sculptures for the eyes. They are sculptures to spread the idea that we live in a time of garbage.” So far,Schult’s social sculptures have been on show in Paris,in Moscow’s Red Square,on the Great Wall of China, and in the desert next to the Pyramids of Giza near Cairo.
HA Schult’s work is unforgettable.Although his work has had a big influence on the art
world,Schult remains modest about his creations:“Artists have to learn every time.We are not important. All that counts is the time in which we are living.”
Trash art has been around for years. But it seems that only the popular artists are regarded as true artists when working with trash. Why can’t common people be considered artists when they use the same
things and change them into some forms of personal art?Maybe it’s because we all have our own preset ideas of what art is and isn’t,or whom artists are or should be.
You can be an artist like Schult if you try.Look at used metal cans. What might be done with them?Imagine them in any number of new uses,or imagine them simply as an art form. What about boxes or clothing?Boxes can usually serve as new storage containers and houses for pets. And clothing?Imagine taking old clothes and turning them into hats or hanging organizers.

A.They served as garbage containers.
B.They reflected environmental issues.
C.They were first shown in Paris,France.
D.They were to raise economic awareness.

A.it takes talent to be a trash artist
B.preset ideas are important to artists
C.trash art can’t be seen as a real art form
D.average people can also make trash artists
27.Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A.Could You Be a Trash Artist?
B.What Are Social Sculptures?
C.Do You Know about Trash Art?
D.How Can We Deal with Used Cans?
C
Mention sand art and the image that comes to mind is that of an intricately(杂乱的) carved sculpture or design sketched on a beach surface.Though impressive, they are transient(短暂的) masterpieces that disappear with the first large wave or splash of rain.However,24-year-old Tim Bengel’s sand art is permanent. That’s because the German artist uses the grit(粗砂) to “paint” his masterpieces on canvas. While the final product is certainly beautiful, what is even more so is the way it is created.
Bengel begins by covering a blank canvas with a special adhesive(黏合剂) that dries extremely slowly, giving the artist enough time to draw the desired image. He then begins “painting” with grains of black sand and in some cases, gold foil.It takes the young man anywhere from 200 to 300 hours to complete each work of art.
What is most intriguing about Bengel’s process is that only the artist knows what the final image will be.To the rest of the world, the canvas appears to be a mess of black sand.It is only when Bengel sprinkles white sand over the canvas and then dramatically sweeps off all the excess grit that the masterpiece is revealed!
The talented artist, who is currently studying art at the University of Tubingen, says his interest in the subject began after he visited the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart Art Museum as a child.Bengel was so inspired that he came home and began trying to reproduce the paintings he had seen at the museum. After winning an art competition at this school at the age of 18,Bengel knew that it was the career he wanted to pursue. But the young man also realised that to be successful,he would have to develop his own unique style.
28.From the first paragraph we can see that .

B.Bengel’s works are intricately carved sculptures
C.Bengel’s works stretch on the beach
D.the creation of sand art is more beautiful

A.The artist creates his work on the beach.
B.It takes the artist a long time to finish each work of art.
C.This kind of art work is very easy to create.
D.The artist has to work quickly because of the adhesive.
30.Bengel became interested in art .
A.when he became a university student
B.after he went to an art museum
C.after he saw some sand sculptures
D.when he was at the age of 18
31.What did Bengel realise he had to do if he wanted to be successful?
A.He must visit museums often.
B.He must reproduce the paintings.
C.He must have his own unique style.
D.He must win art competitions.

One of America’s best-known artist colonies, the MacDowell Colony, will turn 110 next year.It is a place where artists of all types can sweep away distractions(分神之事) and just create.
MacDowell’s operations are funded by foundations, corporations and
individuals.Writers, composers, photographers, filmmakers and sculptors—both famous and unknown—compete for the 32 free studios at the place.Once accepted,an artist can stay for as little as a couple of weeks,or as long as a couple of months.
When they arrive, artists find a kind of isolation(隔绝) hard to find in our world. There’s no phone. No fax.No friends. No family. It’s just a cabin in the snowy woods.
Writer Emily Raboteau lives in New York City. She came to MacDowell to work on a novel. She received a desk, chairs, pencils and paper—and ice grippers. The walk from one isolated,one-room studio to another is icy,so colony residents fasten the ice grippers to the bottom of their shoes.
Another colony resident,Belfast composer Elaine Agnew, play a piece called “To a Wild
Rose”,written by Edward MacDowell. She says it’s so famous that every pianist in the world has played the tune.A hundred years ago,MacDowell owned the land where the colony now sits.He liked its isolation and his ability to get work done there. After his death, his wife,Marion, encouraged other artists to come.
And for the last century, artists have accepted the invitation, coming to step outside of their daily lives for a short time.Privacy is respected, but cooperation and discussion is common.
Screenwriter Kit Carson—who wrote Texas Chainsaw MassacreⅡ and the film adaption of Sam Shepherd’s play Paris,Texas—has visited MacDowell twice. He says that the interdisciplinary(学科间的) discussion there is valuable.
“You sit around at dinner, talking, and then somebody runs off and brings you back some stuff and shows it to you,”he says.“That,I didn’t realise, was part of the magic here, because people are really open to showing their opinions here.”
32.Who sponsored MacDowell’s operations?
A.Artists of all types.
B.The government and individuals.
C.Foundations,corporations and individuals.
D.Writers,composers,filmmakers and sculptors.
33.What can we learn about colony residents?

34.Why is Elaine Agnew mentioned in the text?
A.To show respect for MacDowell.
B.To admire her great musical talent.
C.To introduce the origin of the colony.
D.To tell us the wide range of the residents.
35.What would be the best title for the text?

Think “art”.What comes to your mind?Is it sculptures in the Louvre,or Chinese paintings in the Palace Museum?Or maybe, just maybe,it’s a dancing pattern of lights?
The artworks by American artist Janet Echelman look like colourful floating clouds when lit up at night.Visitors can not only enjoy looking at them, they can also interact with them—literally.36 Exhibits such as these are certainly new and exciting, but are they really art?
Whatever your opinion, people have been expressing their thoughts through art with various tools and technologies for thousands of years.Yet Michelangelo and others have been labelled as“artists” rather than “technicians”.37
Today, however, technological advances have led to a combination of art and technology. As a result, the art world is changing greatly.38 Take for example one of China’s most famous paintings,Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival. As this artwork is rarely on display, people have sometimes queued a long time for a chance to see it.Thanks to technology however, more people have been able to experience a digital version of it with 3D animation.
39 Not only can we interact with art,but also take part in its creation. With new technological tools at our fingertips, more and more people have created exciting new art forms, such as digital paintings and videos.
However, such developments are making the line between art and technology less distinct. Is the artist the creator of the art itself,or the maker of the technology behind it?
40 But one thing is for sure—with so many artists exploring new possibilities,we can definitely expect the unexpected.
A.Now art is more accessible to us than ever before.
B.Where technology will take art next is anyone’s guess.
C.It’s not important whether they are artists or technicians.
D.They do this by using their phones to change their colours and patterns.
E.They watch as the different scenes change from daylight into night time.
F.The art—tech combination is also changing our concepts of “art”.
G.This means that art and technology have always been seen as two very separate things.

Located halfway up the Italy’s Apennine Mountain, about 100 miles northeast of Rome, the Hotel Rigopiano has never been easy to reach. But its isolation(隔绝) only adds to its appeal, attracting a great number of tourists.
Snow began to fall across the Apennines in January and lasted for days. From his home in the Rome suburbs,Matrone watched the weather with concern. He and his wife,Cicioni, had planned an overnight
getaway to the hotel. But now he wondered whether they should go.After phoning the hotel, they decided to make the trip.By the time they neared the hotel six hours later, they were battling a snowstorm. When they finally arrived, they were both cold and exhausted. They checked into their room and went to bed early.
As they awoke the next day, they discovered that their difficulty had worsened overnight. The cars in the parking lot were invisible. The phone and power lines were down. They were having breakfast when the hotel began to shake. An earthquake with a magnitude(震级) of 5.7 had struck the mountain.“Get out of here!” Matrone shouted to his wife. They headed quickly to the parking lot, where others were digging their cars.Fifteen minutes after the first earthquake, another quake hit, this one measuring 5.6.
With a dozen vehicles freed by noon, the guests set off down the driveway. But when they reached the main road, the path was blocked by a six-foot-high wall of snow.Matrone climbed out of his car and investigated it.There was no road in sight.“We’re trapped!” he told his wife.So they had no choice but to make their way back to the hotel.
As it was getting dark, they managed to be back. That was when the snow on the mountain began to slide. They heard the avalanche(雪崩)before they saw it.The avalanche gathered speed and size, grabbing rocks and trees and anything else in its way down the mountain, tearing the hotel from its foundation. When the avalanche came to a stop, those caught inside the hotel were left buried in the icy rocks and ruins.
注意:续写词数应为150左右。

When Matrone came to himself,he was stuck in the darkness.
It was not until the next morning that the rescuers finally arrived.

(Text10)
Today I am going to talk about what going to school was like in the late 1800s.In the 19th and early 20th centuries, most American students went to a one-room schoolhouse.A single teacher would typically have students in the first through eighth grades, and she taught them all.The number of
students varied from 6 to 40 or more. The youngest children sat in the front, while the oldest students sat in the back. The teacher usually taught reading, writing, arithmetic, history and geography.Students memorized and retold their lessons.
The classroom of a one-room schoolhouse probably looked much like your own.The teacher’s desk stood on a raised platform at the front of the room, however, and there was a wood-burning stove since there was no other way of heating. The bathroom was outside in an outhouse.
In Honeoye Falls,New York, there is a one-room schoolhouse where kids today can experience what it was like to the students in the late 19th century. For a week during the summer, they wear 19th century clothes and learn the way children learned more than a hundred years ago.
What else has changed about school since the 19th century? For more information, please listen to my talk next time.
