Ⅰ.阅读理解(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)

After leaving Vancouver Airport,I got on the Skytrain to
downtown Vancouver.I'd hardly sat down when two local ladies got
on the train, sat next to me and started chatting with me.When
I got to Burrard Station,I asked a passerby for directions to
my hotel. He took a lot of time to explain it to me.But I still
got confused and had to ask another passerby for directions. This
time I was guided along the street practically to the door of my hotel.
So far, after just 45 minutes in Vancouver,I'd met four Vancouverites (温哥华人),all of whom were unbelievably friendly and helpful. Before I came to Canada,I was told Canadians were friendly.Well, that's really true.
When I arrived at my hotel,it was 4:00 pm and I only had one day to explore Vancouver,so after admiring the harbour views from my hotel room,I had a quick shower, cast one more longing glance at the bed,and then stepped out into the bright Vancouver sunshine.
It was a sunny spring day.I planned to visit Stanley Park, just a tenminute walk from my hotel,so I took a bike from Spokes Bicycle Rentals and cycled through the park, stopping every few meters to take photos, admire the wildlife and watch the locals enjoying the sunshine. As a traveler, one can walk, bike,or go roller skating around Vancouver's Stanley Park. It's a popular local hangout (某人常去的地方) whether you want to sunbathe or pose for your wedding photos.
I could have hung out in Stanley Park until dusk, but I had to keep moving as two friends and some Vancouver locals were meeting me at the hotel at 6:00 pm.So I had to leave to meet them.
If you are interested in my time in Canada, come back to my blog tomorrow.

Only a few people in Toronto have the luck to live within walking distance from their workplace. For the rest of us,commuting (乘车上下班) is a rather unpleasant
daily necessity.
So how do you avoid a traffic jam in Toronto? You can do it in the old way and listen to one of the radio stations that give regular updates about the traffic situation in Toronto's streets.Seeing the big picture of Toronto's traffic and knowing when and where heavy traffic occurs is a must. From my own experience, there are situations where a quick decision can help you make it in time for an event or a meeting. That's why we prepared three short videos showing the overall traffic situation in Toronto from dawn to night. You can click them and watch.
With the help of “Google Maps”,where you can watch the live traffic density all over the world and average traffic data based on past conditions,we were able to provide you with traffic maps for a typical (平常的) Friday.
Friday traffic in Toronto is quite fast in the early morning, with only a few hot spots showing up at the major junctions (交叉点) at 7:00 am.The morning traffic jam starts light at 7:30 and the traffic gradually slows down to reach a breaking point at 8:30.The roads are quite free afterwards, only Allen Road is likely to be jammed around lunchtime from 11:30 am to 12:00 noon.It comes as no surprise that Friday afternoon brings heavy traffic as early as 1:30 pm,mainly on the Don Valley Parkway. You won't have a good time getting away from the city from 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm,as there is a good chance to get caught in a traffic jam.The traffic in Toronto is quite heavy on a Friday night.I hope you will have a nice Friday night in the city and a safe journey home this Friday!

When I first started to learn Spanish at the age of 12,I knew I would want to live in Spain as an adult.Something drew me here, powerfully.I pursued a Spanish degree and spent my third year studying in Spain.
At first, the difference in working culture really struck me.People work very long a day—usually from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm.But they'll always take time for a decent lunch break or to enjoy a coffee at a café.There's none of tha t miserable business of stuffing a sandwich at your desk at 1:00 pm as in Britain.
I have also found it difficult to get used to the late nights.People are out at restaurants with their kids at 11:00 pm,and toprating television programmes are on at 1:00 am.It is a sleepless nation, but they have got used to it from a young age. Most foreign people,of course, are in a daze for the first few months.I still drop off at 11:00 pm,when the night's just getting started.
Spanish guys are much more confident than the British. They'll chat you up,they're outspoken and they go after what they want. They say the macho (富有大男子气概的) culture has changed a lot.You can see this in the ads for family violence hotlines (热线) on Spanish television.Spain has a horrible record for it,but when I was here in 2009,it wasn't talked about. There's a sense that the nation is growing up when it comes to gender politics.

Africa is a very diverse land with many different tribes. One tradition that many of these groups share is painting or marking their bodies and faces in color. They do this for many reasons. Some marks are used to identify people as part of a group.
16 Let's look at some different examples of body painting.
17 Among the Masai of East Africa, when men are old enough to marry and make decisions for their people, they participate in a special ceremony in which they
paint their heads and faces red. This ceremony takes place every seven to fourteen years,so there is not an exact age for participating in it.The Samburu, also from East Africa, like to paint their faces and hair red because they think it looks attractive.
18 To show that he has killed a lion,a man will paint his body with a natural white material, making special marks to represent this accomplishment. The Masai men also use this white to show that they are no longer boys and are considered adults.
One quite unusual example of face painting is done by the Wodaabe people of West Africa.Once a year, they have a beauty contest for men. 19 Then they add white and black circles and lines.Black paint is used near the eyes and on the lips to draw attention to the whiteness of their eyes and teeth, which the Wodaabe consider most beautiful. 20
As you travel, enjoy the beautiful and bright colors of Africa.
A.Red is the common color in body painting because it often represents health and long life.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
Good afternoon.Today I am going to talk about some differences between high school life in Canada and China.
First of all,I can't understand how Chinese students could attend twelve classes in one day: 5 in the morning,4 in the afternoon and 3 in the evening. In Canada, they only have four classes. They are English,Science,Speech and Drama. We are trying to adapt ourselves to the teachers' pumping facts into students while in Canada they are encouraged to express their own thoughts in class. If there is a public activity, every Chinese student has to attend it but students in Canada don't have to.
These are some of my personal views of differences between high school life in Canada and China.Thank you for listening to my speech.。
