On Saturday, with a thunderstorm coining soon and my son’s birthday party later in the day,we all went out in the dar of the morning for elly to participate in her first triathlon. She was nervous but trying to eep it together.
And then it was her turn. From the second she jumped into the water, my heart soared. My daughter transformed into the most confident human being I had ever seen. She dominated(主宰) that swim, crushed that bie ride and ran to the finish with the biggest smile on her face.
I can honestly say that I never felt so proud of someone in my entire life. It wasn’t because she did a sport or anything lie that. It was because she was afraid of something and conquered (克服) that fear with confidence and a fire I hadn’t seen before.
All day I would find myself just looing over at her and smiling. She might be wearing the finalist medal but I felt lie I won that day. I won the chance to see my girl shine.
Shine on, sweet baby.

The oddness of life in space never quite goes away. Here are some eamples.
First consider something as simple as sleep. Its position presents its own challenges. The main question is whether you want your arms inside or outside the sleeping bag. If you leave your arms out, they float free in ero gravity, often giving a sleeping astronaut the loo of a funny balled (芭蕾) dancer. “I’m an inside guy,” Mie Hopins says, who returned from a si-month tour on the International Space Station. “I lie to be wrapped up.”
On the station, the ordinary becomes strange. The eercise bie for the American astronauts has no handlebars. It also has no seat. With no gravity, it’s just as easy to pedal violently. You can watch a movie while you pedal by floating a microcomputer anywhere you want. But station residents have to be careful about staying in one place too long. Without gravity to help circulate air, the carbon dioide you ehale (呼气) has a tendency to form an invisible (隐形的) cloud around you head. You can end up with what astronauts call a carbon-dioide headache.
Leroy Chiao, 54, an American retired astronaut after four flights, describes what happens even before you float out of your seat, “Your inner ear thins your’re falling. Meanwhile your eyes are telling you you’re standing straight. That can be annoying—that’s why some people feel sic.” Within a couple days—truly terrible days for some —astronauts, brains learn to ignore the panicy signals from the inner ear, and space sicness disappears.
Space travel can be so delightful but at the same time invisibly dangerous. For instance, astronauts lose bone mass. That’s why eercise is considered so vital that National Aeronautics and
Space Administration (NASA) puts it right on the worday schedule. The focus on fitness is as much about science and the future as it is about eeping any individual astronauts return home, and, more importantly, how to maintain strength and fitness for the two and a half years or more that it would tae to mae a round-trip to Mars.
32. What is the major challenge to astronauts when they sleep in space?
A. Deciding on a proper sleep position
B. Choosing a comfortable sleeping bag
C. Seeing a way to fall asleep quicly
D. Finding a right time to go to sleep.
33. The astronauts will suffer from a carbon-dioide headache when .
A. the y circle around on their bies
B. they use microcomputers without a stop
C. they eercise in one place for a long time
D. they watch a movie while pedaling
34. Some astronauts feel sic on the station during the first few days because .
A. their senses stop woring
B. they have to stand up straight
C. they float out of their seats unepectedly
D. whether they are able to go bac to the station
35. One of the NASA’s major concerns about astronauts is .
A. how much eercise they do on the station
B. how they can remain healthy for long in space
C. Whether they can recover after returning home
D. whether they are able to go bac to the station

书面表达参考范文
Dear Mr. Headmaster,
I am Li Hua, a student from inhua high school, Senior II. I am writing to draw your attention to some improper behavior among us students littering and scribbling, which maes our school dirty and unpleasant. And it does harm to the image of our school. I always feel ashamed whenever I see this.
It is clearly not appropriate for a student to litter and scribble about. I wonder if the school could place more dustbins around and set up specific rules against such behavior. At the same time,
students should be encouraged to develop good habits and behave themselves better. I believe that, with the joint efforts of both teachers and students, our school will become a more enjoyable place in the near future.
I would appreciate it if you could tae my suggestions into consideration.
Yours faithfully,
Li Hua。
