Sweat rolled off my forehead as my younger brother and I sat under the tree.
“Hi, Jason,” said my brother, Chad. “Do you hear the train?” I listened, but I heard only thunder in the distance. It was still miles away, but I heard it. It grew stronger and louder as it gained speed and got closer. How could that be? I wondered.
We were about to grab our bikes to see what it actually was when we stopped. What looked like a flock of birds darkened the sky overhead. When I looked at it closer,
I realized it wasn’t birds. It was a tornado (龙卷风). The hairs on the back of my neck stood up as the air turned green and heavy. The sun disappeared. The wind strengthened and roared. I grabbed Chad’s arm and pulled him toward the house.
I tried to open the door, but it was as if an invisible force pushed against me. The door refused to open. When we finally managed to get inside, we found it was as dark as night. Our family had practiced a tornado safety plan many times. But I had never imagined that it would be just Chad and me at home the first time we needed to use it.
“Inside the closet!” I yelled. It was small and crowded, but we got in it anyway. Chad began to cry. “It’s going to be all right.” I told him. But I was worried about Mom. I hope she’d found a safe place to wait out the storm.
The storm continued. I heard a thud on the roof. I felt the whole house shaking. Then it was quiet. I opened the door and we inched our way out of the closet. Rain had got in through the open window and wet the carpets. A kitchen window had shattered, its screen blown away. I looked at the backyard. The tree was uprooted, and broken branches lay on the ground.
“Jason, I can’t get service,” Chad said as he held the phone in his hand. We had no electricity, either. I glanced at the wall clock. Had it been only 20 minutes since we’d first heard the thunder?
Then I heard footsteps toward the house. Mom had made it home safely. “Boys!” she yelled. “Are you all right?”
We ran out and hugged her. The sun came out, and this time it shone bright and clear.
56. When the tornado struck, ________.
A. the boys felt terrified and asked for help
B. a flock of birds darkened the sky overhead
C. the boys protected themselves in a safe place
D. the sound of the train grew stronger and louder
57. What can we learn from the passage?
A. Mom had trouble in finding the boys.
B. Jason knew how to deal with a tornado.
C. The tornado lasted for over half an hour.
D. Their house was flooded by the heavy rain.
58. Which of the following words can best describe Jason?
A. Calm and thoughtful.

I first knew the myth(荒诞的说法)that twins come packaged as a pair more than 20 years ago in my local supermarket. As I pushed my shopping trolley(手推车)with my ten-month-old twin daughters towards a woman, she said, "Which one is the good one and which one is the bad one?" I was upset and hurried past. There I caught my breath, smiled at my two girls—who were busy playing with each other—and wondered how anyone could ask such a question.
Since twins are born a "matched set", they are often seen as symbols(象征)of the good and bad in all of us. Ancient myths and modern movies are full of situations where twins are made to represent that one is good and the other is bad.
Unfortunately, most people are more familiar with twin myths than with living, breathing twins. As one mother of adult twin sons put it, "I was amazed at how good both my twins were. From an early age there was so much care between them. If I offered one a biscuit, he wouldn`t take it until he made sure that his brother was going to get one too. I tried, but I could never get my single-born kids to be as thoughtful about each other." She said she protected her boys from twin myths while they were growing up by giving them different names. She never dressed them alike and avoided emphasis(强调)on their twinship.
While few parents believe the myth of good twin/bad twin, some fall into the trap of comparing their twins’ personalities and abilities. Of course, there are times when any parent becomes disappointed with one over the other. Wise parents keep these feelings to themselves. When they speak of differences between their twin children, they translate them into positive points and avoid negative labels(标签). Within the
family, parents can control their own behavior. But there`s no easy way to protect them from wrong questions and comments from their classmates, teachers, coaches and strangers. The best defense is to show a positive attitude toward twinship and about any difference between your children.
59. What is the twin myth mentioned in the text?
A. Twins have a lot in common.
B. Twins are always best friends.
C. There’s a good twin and a bad twin in every pair.
D. There are some slight differences between twins.
60. The author left the woman in the supermarket in a hurry because________.
A. she was in an emergency
B. the woman had hurt her before
C. the woman was a total stranger
D. she didn’t like what the woman said
61. According to Paragraph3, the twin brothers________.
A. have similar tastes in dresses
B. love each other very much
C. dislike other family kids
D. have similar names
62. The author advises parents to ________.
A. learn more about twin myths
B. avoid comparing their twin children
C. tell their twin children their shortcomings
D. encourage their twin children to learn from each other

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, Florida — On Tuesday, SpaceX sent the Falcon Heavy rocket into orbit(轨道). The Falcon Heavy is now the most powerful rocket in the world.
SpaceX is a private space company. The company was started by a businessman named Elon Musk. He loaded the Falcon Heavy with his own cherry-red Tesla car. The car was built by another one of his companies. He planned to send the Tesla into an orbit that would take it near Mars.
Space travel in the United States used to happen only under NASA. NASA stands for National Aeronautics and Space Agency, which is part of the government. Unlike NASA, SpaceX is not part of the government.
Thousands of people came to watch the Falcon Heavy’s launch(发射). The launch took
place in Florida. It was the rocket’s first test. The launch was also the first time an American rocket that was not built by NASA tried to leave orbit.
Experts are not sure about the Falcon Heavy. There may not be as many uses for the rocket as the company thinks. SpaceX wanted to fly a pair of tourists around the moon. On Monday, Elon Musk went back on his word. He said the Falcon Heavy likely would never fly humans.
John Logsdon is a space historian. He thinks the Falcon Heavy will make people excited about space again. NASA ended its space shuttle program in 2011. Since then, space programs have stayed close to Earth. With the Falcon Heavy, space travel could push deeper into space.
President Trump has said he wants Americans to return to the moon. NASA could get to the moon by working with SpaceX. SpaceX is trying to make space travel cheaper.
For years, NASA has also been working to build the Space Launch System. It would be an even more powerful rocket than the Falcon Heavy. However, it is more expensive. There was room for both systems.
63. Which part of a newspaper is the text from?
A. Science news.
B. Political news.
C. Advertisement.
D. Famous people.
64. Which statement is true according to the text?
A. SpaceX will not work with NASA.
B. SpaceX is a company owned by NASA.
C. SpaceX will send humans into space soon.
D. SpaceX launched the Falcon Heavy rocket.
65. Why will SpaceX make people excited about space again?
A. Because it will bring tourists to space on its rockets.
B. Because its Falcon Heavy rocket has returned to the earth.
C. Because it is trying to push space programs deeper into space.
D. Because it wants to take over all space exploration from NASA.
66. What does the underlined sentence mean in the last paragraph?
A. NASA’s Space Launch System is too expensive.
B. Both systems have disadvantages to overcome.
C. NASA’s Space Launch System is more powerful.
D. The Falcon Heavy is better than the Space Launch System.

Recent months have seen a revival of the bike across China, with an increasing number of people choosing cycling instead of driving to schools, to workplaces or to do sightseeing. The introduction of bike-sharing systems has brought the trend (趋势)to a new level.
Many cities in China have government-run bike-rental programs, but Mobike and Ofo have made things so much easier as users can borrow and return bikes, which are equipped with GPS systems, with just a smart phone. No complicated(复杂的)procedure, such as going to a specific place to pay a deposit(定金), is required.
“Right now, we are transporting more people than taxis in China in many cities,”Mobike CEO Davis Wang said recently at Fortune’s Brainstorm Tech conference. “And in some cities, for example in Chengdu, we are transporting more people than the subway (地铁). So Mobike is becoming one of the major transportation means in many of the cities in which we operate.”
Davis Wang also added that bike sharing allows users to park their bikes anywhere they want, unlike previous city-bikes where riders had to look for a certain place to return the bikes. The ability to use a bike whenever and wherever without having to worry about losing the bike offers great convenience.
It’s very convenient to use the bikes if you have a smart phone. First, you have to download such an APP on your smart phone. Then what you need to do is to find a nearest bike through the APP, scan(扫描)the QR code(二维码)on the bike or connect your phone with the bike over a Bluetooth wireless connection. You will find the bike can be unlocked itself. Then you can enjoy your trip.
However, with the development of bike sharing, some problems occurred, such as illegal parking, vandalism(故意破坏)and theft.
“Bike-sharing is a greener method of transportation,” said Liu Xiaoming, vice-minister of transport. “But it’s a combi nation of online and offline business. Operators are usually strong in online services, but lack offline business experience, which causes problems.”
67. The underlined word “revival” in paragraph 1 means .
A. disappearance
B. survival
C. recovery
D. existence
68. Which of the following wasn’t mentioned by Davis Wang?
A. Users do not need to pay a deposit.
B. Users needn’t worry about losing the bikes.
C. Users can park the bikes wherever they want.
D. Users needn’t return the bikes to a cert ain place.
69. Which is the right order of using a shared bike?
① find a nearest bike through the APP
② download an APP on your smart phone
③ unlock the bike and enjoy your trip
④ scan the QR code on the bike
A. ①②④③
B. ①②③④
C. ②①④③
D. ②③①④
70. According to the last paragraph, the problem of bike sharing results from .
A. the bad behavior of some people
B. lacking offline business experience
C. the bad competition between companies
D. lacking enough public parking space
第II卷非选择题(共4大题;满分35分)
第四部分:任务型阅读(共10 小题;每小题0.5分, 满分5分)
注意:每空只填一个单词。
The personality of a person can be defined as a set of qualities, beliefs, feelings, thoughts, attitudes, emotions and ideas that distinguish him from others. There is a widespread belief that if the factors responsible for shaping a person’s
personality are controlled right in the childhood, a person can have a desired, well-rounded personality.
There are a lot of factors responsible for personality development in children, and parental influence is the most important. The way a child’s parents behave will have a great effect on his mental development. In early childhood, children learn a lot about socializing from the way their parents interact with their friends, neighbors, acquaintances, etc. If the parents are sociable, the same characteristic will most probably be developed in the children. Thus, parents should take care to become positive role models and provide the child with the best environment, where he gets ideal opportunities to develop his personality.
A child first begins to understand emotions through his mother. He can develop a variety of emotions, both positive and negative. Happiness, love, care, support, fear, anxiety, jealousy, anger and shyness-a child starts showing all these. Again, it is up to the parents to make sure that the child includes the positive emotions in his personality and stays away from the negative ones. An absentee mother or father who stays away from home for a long time can have a negative influence on the child. To ensure that a child turns out to be a confident, positive person, there are some things that parents should avoid, such as being too authoritative, trying to control the child overly, scolding him often, punishing him severely, criticizing him, discouraging him, comparing him with others and giving preference to one child over the other.
Besides the home environment, a child’s school also plays a major role in shaping his personality. Once a child starts going to school, he learns how to interact and deal with his peers(同龄人). He comes to know how to get involved in games according to the rules and regulations. He gets educated, learns how to read, write and most importantly, how to communicate effectively. A child’s personality is greatly influenced by the way he is treated at school, both by his teachers as well as his peers.
The influence of culture in personality development cannot be ignored. For example, a child brought up in Western countries is taught to be a little bit individualistic,
independent and competitive, while children brought up in Asia, African and South American countries are taught to cooperate with others.

With the program Readers becoming popular recently, two handwritten letters read in it drew the audience’s attention. Many people suggest that we should communicate by writing letters, which has caused a heated discussion among students in our school. Students’ opinions vary.
70% of the students are in favor of it. On one hand, handwritten letters can help students express their feelings better while communicating with others. On the other hand, by writing letters, students can practise their handwriting well, which is very beneficial to their future development.
However, 30% of the students are against it. For one thing, it’s a waste of time and paper for students to write letters. For another, they hold the view that handwritten letters are out of date, which should be given up.
On my personal note, it is a good tradition that we need to hold on to. What’s more, letters are easy to store, which will become great treasures for us to value when we memorize our past in the future. (151 words)。
