The Importance of Reading LiteratureLiterature is acknowledged as the most precious product of human civilization and wisdom, especially by our teachers. So they always ask their students to read as many as literary works. Just as the drawing shown above, a teacher gives a literary work to her student, saying: “Just think of it as if you’re reading a long text-message.”It is of great significance for us to appreciate literature due to the following reasons. Firstly, a good literature can get you to know a life experience through the eyes of someone other than yourself. The more experience you gain, the more knowledgeable you are. Secondly, a good literature allows you to learn about history in a personalized way. The stories told in the works can act as mirrors and help you adjust your own behaviors. Lastly, a good literature is an effective way for relaxation. The beautiful and moving scenes shown in the literature are helpful for one’s mental health. In short, literature is indispensable in our life. We, students, should catch our time to read more literatures.【总评】本次四级作文探讨的`话题是文学阅读的重要性。

1. In my opinion, traveling is one of the best ways to broaden our horizons and gain new experiences. It allows us to step out of our comfort zones and explore different cultures, traditions, and ways of life. Plus, it's always exciting to visit new places and see famous landmarks with our own eyes.2. On the other hand, traveling can also be quite exhausting. From the long flights to the jet lag, it can take a toll on our bodies. However, the thrill of discovering new places and meeting new people is worth the temporary discomfort.3. Another aspect of traveling that I enjoy is trying out different cuisines. Food is an integral part of any culture, and by tasting the local dishes, we can truly immerse ourselves in the destination. Whether it's a traditional dish from Italy or street food from Thailand, each bite is a new adventure for our taste buds.4. One thing I've learned from my travels is that communication is key. While English is widely spoken in many parts of the world, there are still instances where language barriers can be a challenge. However, I've found that a smile and a few basic phrases in the local language can go a long way in making connections and bridging the gap.5. In addition to the cultural experiences, traveling also allows us to appreciate the beauty of nature. From stunning landscapes to breathtaking sunsets, there's something magical about being in the great outdoors. Whether it's hiking in the mountains or lounging on a pristine beach, nature has a way of rejuvenating our souls.6. One of the downsides of traveling is the impact it can have on the environment. With increased air travel and tourism, there's a growing concern about carbon emissions and waste generation. As responsible travelers, it's important to be mindful of our actions and make sustainable choices whenever possible.7. Lastly, traveling has taught me the importance of adaptability and resilience. Things don't always go according to plan, and unexpected challenges can arise. However, by staying flexible and embracing the unknown, we can turn these obstacles into valuable life lessons and unforgettable experiences.Overall, traveling is a wonderful way to explore the world, learn about different cultures, and create lasting memories. It may have its challenges, but the rewards far outweigh the difficulties. So, pack your bags and embark on your next adventure!。

During their lifetime,it can be expected that of these 3000 about 23 will be murdered,30 will die in traffic accidents, and nearly 750 will be killed by a smoking-related disease. The number of deaths attributed to cigarette smoking outweithts all other factors, whether voluntary or involuntary, as a cause of death.Since the late 1970s, when daily smoking among high school seniors reached 30 precent , smoking rates among youth have declined . While the decline is impressive ,several important issues must be raised.First, in the past several years, smoking rates among youth have declined very little. Second,in the late 1970s ,smoking among male high school seniors exceeded that among female by nearly 10 percent . The statistic is reversing.Third ,several recent studies have indicate high school dropouts have excessively high smoking rates, as much as 75 percent .Finally, thouth significant declines in adolescent smoking have occurred in the past decade,no definite reasons for the decline exist. Within this context, the Naional Cancer Instiute (NCI) began its current effort to determine the most effecive measures to reduce smoking levesl among youth.1.According to the author, the deaths among youth are mainly caused by _____.a.traffic accidentsb.smoking-related deseasec.murderd.all of these2.Every day there are over_____high school strdents who will become regular smoker.a.75b.23c.30d.30003.By "dropout" the author means______.a.students who failed the examinationb.students who left schoolc.students who lost their wayd.students who were driven out of school4.The reason for declining adolescent smoking is that________.a.NCI has taken effective measuresb.smoking is prevented among high school seniorsc.there are many smokers who have died of cancerd.none of these5.What is implied but not stated by the author is that ________.a.smoking rates among youth have declined very littleb.there are now more female than male smokers among high school seniorsc.high smoking rates are due to the incease in wealthd.smoking at high school are from low socio-economic backgrounds4/200答案:bdbdb5/200The food we eat seems to have profound effects on our health.Although science has made enormous steps in making food more fit to eat ,it has, at the same time, made many foods unfit to eat. Some research has shown that perhaps eighty percent of all human illnesses are related to diet and forty percent of cancer is related to the diet as well, especially cancer of the colon. Different cultures are more likely to cause certain different illnesses because of the food that is characteristic in these cultures. That food is related to illness is nto a new discovery. In 1945, about 35 years ago, government researchers realized that nitrates, commonly used to preserve color in meats, and other food additivies, caused cancer. Yet, these carcinogenic additives remain in our food, and it becomes more difficult all the time to know which things on the packaging labels of processed food are helpful or harmful. The additives which we eat are not all so direct. Farmers often give penicillin to beef andliving animals, and because of this ,penicillin has been found in the milk of treated cow. Sometimes similar drugs are given to animals not for medical purposes, but for financial reasons. The farmers are simply trying to fatten the animals in order to obtain a higher price on the market. Although the Food and Drug Administration(FDA) has tried repeatedly to control these procedures, the practices continue.1.What is the best possible title of the passage?a.Drug and Foodb.Cancer and Healthc.Food and Healthd.Health and Drug2.Which of the following statements is NOT ture?a.Drugs are always given to animals for medical reasonsb. Some of the additives in our food are added to the food itself and some are given to the living animalsc.Researchers have known about the potential dangers of food additives for over thirty-five years.d.Food may cause forty percent of cancer in world.3.How has science done something harmful to mankind?a.Because of science , diseases caused by polluted food haven been virtually eliminated.b.It has caused a lack of information concerning the value of food.c.Because of the application of science, some potentially harmful substances have been added to food.d.The scientists have preserved the color of meats, but not of vegetables.4.What are nitrates used for?a.They preserve flavor in packaged foods.b.They preserve the color of meats.c.They are the objects of research.d.They cause the animals to become fatter.5.The word 'carcinogenic' most nearly means '_____'.a.trouble-makingb.color-retainingc.money-makingd.cancer-causing5/200答案:cacbd。

For centuries, in the countries of south and Southeast Asia the elephant has been an intimate part of the culture, economy and religion, and nowhere more so than in Thailand. Unlike its African cousin, the Asian elephant is easily domesticated (驯化). The rare so-called white elephants have actually lent the authority of kingship to its rulers and until the 1920s the national flag was a white elephant on a red background. To the early Western visitors the country’s romantic name was “Land of the White Elephant”.Today, however, the story is very different. Out of work and out of land, the Thai elephant struggles for survival in a nation that no longer needs it. The elephant has found itself more or less abandoned by previous owners who have moved on to a different economic world and a westernized society. And while the elephant’s problems began many years ago, now it rates a very low national priority. How this reversal from national icon (圣像) to neglected animal came about is a tale of worsening environmental and the changing lives of the Thais themselves. According to Richard Lair, Thailand’s experts on the Asian elephant and author ofthe report Gone Astray, at the turn of the century there may well have beenas many as 100,000 domestic elephants in the country. In the north of Thailand alone it was estimated that more than 20,000 elephants were employed in transport, 1,000 of them alone on the road between the cities of Chiang Mai and Chiang Saen. This was at a time when 90 per cent of Thailand was still forest―a habitat (栖息地) that not only supported the animals but also made them necessary to carry goods and people. Nothing ploughs through dense forest better than a massive but sure-footed elephant.By 1950 the elephant population had dropped to a still substantial 13,397, but today there are probably nomore than 3,800, with another 1,350 roaming free in the national parks. But now, Thailand’s forest coversonly 20 per cent of the land. This deforestation (采伐森林) is the central point of the elephant’s difficult situation, for it has effectively put the animals out of work. This century, as the road network grew, so the elephant’s role as a beast of burden declined. Choose correct answers to the question:1. What can we know about African elephants from the passage?A. Why is the Thai elephant “out of work”, according to the author?A. Because the elephants are no longer useful to their owners.B. Because their owners are westernized and neglect them.C. Because the government pays little attention to the problem.D. Because there are too many elephants and too few jobs.4. Which of the following statements is true about the elephant population at various times?A.

Thus, information security becomes an impending important issue. In case of information breach, the victims —a government department, an organization or an institution, or a company, will inevitably suffer great or small loss. Government may be threatened with national security. Companies may lose opportunities to develop new projects. And the public’s and users? confidence will be damaged. Then how to deal with this issue? Technology is only a partial solution to information security. W hat’s more important is that organizations and companies should promote the awareness on information security to its staff. 1.2022年6⽉⼤学英语四级阅读理解范⽂ In a moment of personal crisis, how much help can you expect from a New York taxi driver? I began studyingthis question and found the answers interesting. One morning I got into three different taxis and announced, "Well, it's my first day back in New York in seven years. I've been in prison." Not a single driver replied, so I tried again. "Yeah, I shot a man in Reno." I explained, hoping the driver would ask me why, but nobody asked. The only response came from a Ghanaian driver, "Reno? That is in Nevada?" Taxi drivers were uniformly sympathetic when I said I'd just been fired. "This is America," a Haitian driver said. "One door is closed. Another is open." He argued against my plan to burn down my boss's house. A Pakistani driver even turned down a chance to profit from my loss of hope; he refused to take me to the middle of the George Washington Bridge--a $20 trip. "Why you want to go there? Go home and relax. Don't worry. Take a new job." One very hot weekday in July, while wearing a red ski mask and holding a stuffed pillowcase with the word"BANK" on it, I tried calling a taxi five times outside different banks. The driver picked me up every tie. My ride with a Haitian driver was typical of the superb assistance I received. "Let's go across the park." I said. "I just robbed the bank there. I got $25,000." "$25,0007" he asked. "Yeah, you think it was wrong to take it?" "No, man. I work 8 hours and I don't make almost $70. If I can do that, I do it too." As we approached 86th and Lexington, I pointed to the Chemical Bank. "Hey, there's another bank," I said, "Could you wait here a minute while I go inside?" "No, I can't wait. Pay me now." His reluctance may have had something to do with money--taxi drivers thinkthe rate for waiting time is too low--but I think he wanted me to learn that even a bank robber can't expect unconditional support. Choose correct answers to the question: 1. What is the author's interpretation of the driver's reluctance "to wait outside the Chemical Bank"? A. The driver thought that the rate for waiting time was too low.

In fact, many factors contribute to the unfavorable situation.First, more and more students can go to college because of the being fast improved high education of China. As a result, there are more graduates every year. However, job vacancies don’t increase that fas t. More people, less food, which is the exact description of the har d condition. Second, more and more people go on to pursue their mast er and doctor degree; more and more Chinese oversea students come ba ck to China to hunt better working chances. It is sure that the comp etition is more and more fierce. Third, because of the fast developm ent of science, technology, economy, society and the interchange of different nations, all units have higher requirement of their employ ees, for example, stronger ability and higher degree. In addition to the factors above, there are still more which bring h ardship for graduates to find jobs. Nevertheless, how to solve the p roblem is more important. It is a good idea for the graduates to lea rn more knowledge with a higher degree and to practice and improve t heir capability of dealing with all kinds of situation, organizatio n, having good terms with others and cooperative spirit. Besides, th e government should try to and encourage all units to create more jo b vacancies for the college graduates. Those who never change their job throughout their life maintain that they have accumulated enough experience to work smoothly and e fficiently, so what's the point in changing it and taking another jo b? They also firmly believe that anyone who wants to excel in his sp ecialty has to work hard on the same post for years to acquire the required skill and knowledge. However, many others hold just the opposite view. On the one hand, t hey believe that if the present job can offer neither satisfactory w orking conditions nor future opportunities, they will not hesitate a moment to leave. On the other hand, they hold that life is but once and job-hopping can provide rich and exciting experiences. My own opinion is that job-hopping, in this fast-changing era of inf ormation, has become more than common and acceptable. If we want to keep pace with the times, we have to change for the faster, the higher and the stronger. If life is a journey, we have nothing to regret so long as we put meaning into it. So why not make a change?(3)Choosing a Career (择业)Outline: 1.
