DUBAI(Reuters)—
Dubai staged a test flight on Monday for what it said would so on be the world’s first flying taxi service under an ambitious pl an by the United Arab Emirates city to lead the Arab world in i nnovation(革新).
The flying taxi developed by German firm Volocopter resembl es a small, two-seater helicopter cabin with 18 propellers(螺

It was unmanned for its first test run in a ceremony arranged f or Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed. Meant to fly without remote control guidance and with a maxi mum flight duration(持续时间)

“You can use your smartphone, have an app, and order a Vol ocopter to the next voloport near you. The volocopter would c ome and autonomously pick you up and take you to your desti nation,” CEO Florian Reuter said.

Are you having difficulty falling asleep? Try drinking a gla ss of warm milk. If that doesn’t work, listen to soft, beautiful m usic. Still no luck? Try thinking about sheep jumping over a fe nce. If you are still awake, take a sleeping pill. But people who take pills often become dependent on the drugs. So you lie a wake knowing that the new workday will soon arrive. If you ha ve been in such condition for at least one month, you may hav e primary insomnia(失眠症).
A new study has found that you might fall asleep more q uickly and stay asleep longer if you try “cerebral hypothermia”. It is not a complex medical process. It just means cooling do wn your brain. Eric Nofzinger and Daniel Buysse from the Uni versity of Pittsburgh Medical School led the study. They exam ined twelve people who had sleeping problems. Twelve other s had no sleep problems. Each of them wore a soft plastic ca p on their head at bedtime.
The caps had tubes inside filled with water. The researche rs moved the water through the tubes and then changed the t emperature of the water. Other studies showed that people w ho had sleeping problems often had more chemical reactions
in the front of their brain. The researchers thought cooling do wn the brain might help.
On the first two nights of testing, the patients wore caps wit h no water. On the next two nights, the caps were worn, but th e water was not cooled. Then the researchers cooled the wat er a little for another two nights. On the final two nights of the study, the temperature of the water was made much cooler. The researchers found that the water caps didn’t help the patients until the temperature was about 14℃. Most of the pat ients fell asleep faster and slept better when the coolest water was moving around their heads.
Dr Nofzinger and Dr Buysse noted that this was only the b eginning of the brain temperature study. But they believed the y had discovered something important that needed more rese arch.

D. lowering the temperature of their brain
(15)
