Ask a classroom of children to draw a scientist, and you’ll see plenty of color1 ed lab coats and glasses. The image (画像) hasn't changed much since the 1960s, but the person wearing the lab coat is changing.
A new analysis finds that more female scientists have appeared in kids? drawings in recent decades — going from nearly nonexistent in the 1960s to about a third in 2016.
The first of many “ draw-a-scientist ’’ studies asked nearly 5,000 children to draw a scientist between 1966 and 1977. Of those 5,000 drawings, only 28 drew female scientists. That was just 0.56 percent. Today, female scientists are being presented more in the media. For example, in a content analysis, 13 percent of people pictured in science feature stories of the 1960s were women or girls, compared with 44 percent in the 2000s. “That might really affect children’s idea on what a scientist should be like, ” says Miller, a Ph. D. candidate in psychology.
To look for changes in children'sperceptionover time, the researchers conducted a meta-analysis ,combining data from 78 studies that included a total of more than 20,000 children from kindergarten to the 12th grade. On average, 28 percent of children drew female scientists in studies conducted from 1965 to 2016.
What hasn’t changed much: kids pick up stereotypes (模式化观念)by gender (性别)as they grow up. At age 6, about 70 percent of the girls in the more recent studiesdrew female scientists. By age 16, 75 percent drew male
scientists. This is an important period in which kids are learning stereotypes. It’s important that teachers and parents present diverse examples of both male and female scientists.
4. What’s the picture of scientists drawn by a 1960s, kid like?
A. A man with long curly hair.
B. A woman with lab glasses.

A. it's a stereotype that scientists are generally males
B. girls are more influenced by stereotypes than boys

Do you ever listen to the songs that your parents like? Chances are that you don’t. You probably think the music that they like is old and boring and that the songs on your playlist are muchcooler. But scientists found that people’s music taste changes as time goes by. So it is likely that your own musical preferences will follow a similar path to your parents’, whether you like it or not.
We used to think that culture and personality (个性) are the only reasons for different music choices. But researchers at the University of Cambridge noticed that as people enter into different age groups, their social environment changes, and so does their music taste. There are some musical periods that people go through in their life.
The first period comes in the teenage years, during which people like strong music such as punk and rock, because teenagers tend to be aggressive or want to be independent.
But as people move into early adulthood, their lifestyles change they want to build close relationships with others. As a result, they become fonder of contemporary music, such as pop and R&.B, which is usually uplifting
and danceable.
When middle age comes, most people have settled down. During this period, people prefer music, such as jazz and classical, as well as music like country, folk and blues.
As for old people, they prefer old songs in their childhoods. They generally listen to relaxing music, such as country music and jazz music. But you must be questioning. “Aren’t there old people who are still interested in or even crazy about rock music?” Of course there are. But their reasons for listening to rock music may have changed. At that age people may listen to remind themselves of their youth.
8. What do young people usually think of the songs their parents enjoy?
A. They are actually less cool.
B. They are worth listening to.
C. They are especially serious.
D. They are hard to understand.

Brown cows may not actually make chocolate milk, but pink silkworms(蚕)do produce pink silk, a team of scientists has discovered. To see if they could produce pre-dyed silk-silk that comes color1 ed, straight from the source-the team fed ordinary silkworms mulberry(桑树)leaves that had been sprayed(喷洒)with fabric(织物)dyes(染色剂). Out of seven tested dyes, only one worked, producing a thread that reminded me of pink-dyed hair.
And yes, the worms themselves take on some color1 before they produce silk. Their color1 ful diets did not affect their growth, the team, which included engineers and biologists from the CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory in India, reports in the journalACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering. (The researchers didn't look
too deeply into how the dyes affected the silkworms' health. After all, silkworms die when people harvest their silk.)
The team made dyeing silk this way because color1 ing fabric normally uses large amounts of fresh water. The water gets polluted with dangerous chemicals in the process, requiring costly treatment before factories can send it back into waterways. Dyeing silk directly by feeding silkworms would avoid those water-washing steps. Scientists are just starting to study this idea. However, it remains to be seen if it's commercially successful. In this experiment, the Indian team tested seven dyes, which are cheap and popular in the industry.
The scientists found different dyes moved through silkworms' bodies differently. Some never made it into the worms' silk at all. Others color1 ed the worms and their silk but the color1 disappears before the silk is turned into fabric. Only one dye, named "direct acid fast red", showed up in the final, washed silk threads. By the time it made it there, it was a pleasant, light pink.
12. The text is most probably a(n) ________.
A. science report
B. tourist guide
C. animal experiment
D. fashion advertisement
13. Silkworms can produce pink silk because ________.
A. they are born pink
B. they are dyed pink
C. they grow in pink water
D. they are fed dyed food
14. Where is the experiment carried out?
A. In America.
B. In India.
C. In Israel.
D. In China.
15. How many dyes have been proved successful in the experiment?
A. One.
B. Three.
C. Five.
D. Seven.

第二节书面表达(满分25分)

续写的词数应为150左右。
“Okay,” said our teacher, Mrs. Woodland:“It's time for the gift exchange.” I wasactually a little excited. I knew what a lot of the girls had brought, and any of those giftswould be great, especially my best friend Sara's. She had
made some candy and put it inthis super cute bear mug(马克杯).
Mrs. Woodland had us put our gifts on ourclassroom table. Then we opened the giftslike a game. We each drew numbers and we got to the table and chose a wrapped(包装好的)gift when our number was called. But we didn't necessarily have to. We could take a giftfrom somebody else that had already hadtheir number called-if we thought we'd like thatgift better than the wrapped ones.
When it was my turn, I didn't take a wrapped gift from the table. And I didn't takeSara's either though I really wanted to.I took the perfume(香水)Megan had broughtinstead. I didn't have enough money to get Mom something special, but the perfume wasreally nice. She might really like it.
I was busy thinking about the perfume and whether Mom would like it or not whenthere was a big commotion(嘈杂).It had been Hannah's turn to choose. She was the lastone. And unsurprisingly, she didn't go for the last wrapped gift on the table. Instead, she'dtaken Sara's gift from Lauren. Well, that meant Lauren had to take the wrapped gift. Shelooked a little upset when she got to the table. Everyone knew the last gift was from Kali. That was why no one had chosen it. Kali was really poor. And she always brought gifts thatno one ever wanted. This time, she brought a pair of old-fashioned crocheted potholders(编织的防烫套垫)!
"I don't want these,"Lauren whined(哀怨)。
“I want my candy back.”
"No way,"Hannah protested, keeping the mug of chocolate out of Lauren's reach.
“Then I want Megan's perfume."Lauren came over to take my perfume."Come on,Melanie, trade with me."
Paragraph 1:
Mrs. Woodland advised me to trade with Lauren since I had always been kind.
Paragraph 2:
"Here,”I said to my mom after I got home, handing her the potholders."They are an
early New Year gift.”
