国际交换生项目交换生经历英语作文My International Exchange Adventure
Hi, my name is Jamie and I'm 10 years old. Last year, I got to do something really exciting - I was an exchange student and went to live in another country for a few months! It was part of an international exchange program that my school participates in every year. When my parents first told me about the opportunity, I was a little nervous but also really eager to go on an adventure.
The country I went to was Japan. It's really far away from where I live in the United States. To get there, I had to take a huge plane ride that felt like it lasted forever! But it was cool because I got to see the clouds up close and even got a peek at the curve of the Earth from so high up. The plane had TVs too so I could watch movies the whole way.
When I finally arrived in Japan, it was night time and everything looked so different from my hometown. The writing on all the signs used different characters that I couldn't read at all. The buildings were narrower and more crowded together too.
I was feeling a mixture of excitement and being a little scared of
all the newness around me. Luckily, the host family I stayed with was really nice and helped me get settled in right away.
The host family's home was pretty small by American standards, but that's typical for Japan since it's such a densely populated country. Instead of having bedrooms, we slept on thin mats called futons that were rolled out at night. It felt like camping indoors! The food was delicious but very different than what I was used to - lots of rice, fish, vegetables, and flavors like soy sauce. My favorite was the plates of sushi rolls with shrimp, avocado, and crab.
One of the biggest adjustments was learning about Japanese culture and trying to follow all the unique customs and etiquette. You're supposed to take your shoes off whenever entering a home and put on slippers. At school, we had to wear uniforms with knee-high socks. During meals, it's considered rude to stick your chopsticks straight up in your rice. There were so many little rules to remember!
Speaking of school, that was probably the hardest part of my exchange experience. All of the lessons were taught entirely in Japanese, which I didn't understand at all at first. I had to rely a lot on body language and pictures to try and follow along. The teachers were really patient with me though, and some of the
other students who spoke a little English helped translate too. By the end of my few months there, I had picked up quite a bit of basic Japanese! Subjects like math were easier since the numbers were the same.
Outside of classroom time, I got to experience so many fun adventures around Japan. My host family took me to explore massive cities like Tokyo where the streets were wall-to-wall neon lights and vending machines. We visited peaceful temples set in beautiful Japanese gardens too. One of the coolest things was getting to attend a traditional tea ceremony and learn about the precise movements and customs involved. We even got to try on kimonos and see a Sumo wrestling exhibition!
My time in Japan flew by so fast. As sad as I was to leave and say goodbye to my host family, I was also excited to go back home and share all my stories with my parents and friends. These days when I think back, I'm so grateful I went on that exchange because it really opened my eyes to how big and fascinating our world is. There's so much to explore and learn about cultures different from our own. While the traditions may seem strange at first, at the heart of it people are just people - laughing, loving, and living their lives the best they can.
If you ever get a chance to be an exchange student like I did, I highly recommend going for it! Nothing could fully prepare me for the incredible sights, sounds, and experiences waiting for me in Japan. Looking back, being an exchange student in elementary school was definitely one of the most amazing adventures I've had in my life so far. Maybe someday when I'm older, I'll have a chance to visit that beautiful country again!。
