China is a country on the move- especially around its Lunar New Year holiday. This year the holiday crush(客流量) promises to be even heavier than before.
Government officials estimate that Chinese people will take to the air, roads and railways 3.62 billion times over a 40-day period around the nation's most important holiday this year as people push their way home for family gatherings or to satisfy their new-found passion for travel.
Getting tickets to all those would-be travelers is a discounting challenge that annually tries patience. And it is the railway system that routinely is most unable to cope. Railways are the transport of choice for low-cost long-distance travel, and that's where the ticketing system routinely falls down
Much of the criticism has focused on the railway's-online purchasing system. Which has been unable to keep pace with the huge demand and also failed to stop scalpers (票贩子) from ending up with many of the hard-to-find tickets.
While insisting that online sales were the fairest way to get tickets for travelers, railway officials told reporters that the public need to be patient. Efforts were
being made to provide online identity checks that would reduce the ticket scalping problems. While officials had little good news for rail passengers, they did manage to bring a few smiles to those traveling by car as the country's extremely expensive highway tolls (通行费) will be free of charge for the period of the official holiday.

Everyone worries about exams, but test anxiety is in another league, causing such fear that it is impossible to do your best. Does your mind go blank in exams? Do you become distracted? Do you score much lower on exams than on homework? Then you may have what psychologists call test anxiety.
Test anxiety involves severe stress before, during or after exams, making it impossible to do your best. It can make your heart feel as if it is racing, and you may submit to “negative self-talk”, convincing yourself you are going to fail or upset. These stressful thoughts, not surprising, can block your brain’s ability to find what is stored in its memory, as well as making it harder to understand the questions and organize your thoughts. Is it possible to stop test anxiety?
Developing good study habits, understanding the exam format and marking scheme
(评分方案)can all help to reduce anxiety. But for a greater effect, other methods are also needed, such as relaxation techniques in which you lie down before the exam, close your eyes and focus on breathing while tensing and relaxing group muscles in turn (legs, arms and stomach).
A study looked at anxious students in maths exams and concluded that writing about how worried you feel before the exam may also reduce anxiety.
Be as prepared as possible before the exam, arrive early, and repeat positive statements such as: “Everyone feels anxious; I know I can do this.” Just as in a race, do not look at what everyone else around you is doing. Focus on the paper in front of you. Do a quick skim to evaluate the feel of the overall test. If you feel nervous, take deep breaths and remember that it is just a test.
29. Paragraph 2 mainly talks about ___________.
A. what causes test anxiety
B. how to deal with test anxiety
C. what effects test anxiety brings about
D. why everyone worries about exams
30. According to Paragraph 4, a study is mentioned to ________.
A. explain it is easy to get around test anxiety.
B. introduce another good approach to handling test anxiety.
C. confirm that maths exams are more likely to cause anxiety.
D. make a conclusion about how to overcome test anxiety.
31. Which of the following shows the structure of the text?
A B. C. D.

I live in Hollywood. You may think people in such an attractive, fun—filled place are happier than others. If so, you have some mistaken ideas about the nature of happiness.
Many intelligent people still equate happiness with fun. The truth is that fun and happiness have little or nothing in common. Fun is what we experience during an act. Happiness is what we experience after an act. It is a deeper, more long—lasting emotion. Going to an amusement park or ball game, watching a movie or television, are fun activities that help us relax, temporarily forget our problems and maybe even laugh. But they do not bring happiness, because their positive effects end when the fun ends.
I have often thought that if Hollywood stars have a role to play, it is to teach us that happiness has nothing to do with fun. These rich, beautiful individuals have constant access to exciting parties, fancy cars, expensive homes, everything that spells “happiness”. But in memoir(回忆录)after memoir, celebrities reveal the unhappiness hidden beneath all their fun: depression, alcoholism, drug addiction, broken marriages, troubled children, and long-time loneliness. The way people hold on to the belief that a fun-filled, pain-free life equates happiness actually decreases their chances of ever attaining real happiness. If fun and pleasure are equated with happiness, then pain must be equated with unhappiness. But, in fact, the opposite is true: More times than not, things that lead to happiness involve some pain.
As a result, many people avoid the very efforts that are the source of true happiness. They fear the pain inevitably brought by such things as marriage, raising
children, professional achievement, religious commitment, charitable work and self-improvement.
32. According to the passage, “fun activities” ________.
A. are the things we do before we find happiness
B. may help us relax and forget our problems sometimes
C. will lead us to the true happiness
D. could provide long-last positive effects
33. In the author’s opinion, those Hollywood stars ________.
A. possess happiness because they are rich and famous
B. experience almost all kinds of happy things
C. tell us happiness isn’t equal to fun using their own stories
D. have to suffer a lot before they become successful
34. It is difficult for people to find real happiness because ________.
A. they believe happiness is the fun life without pain
B. they find pain equals unhappiness
C. they fear to lose what they already have in life
D. they are afraid all their efforts were in vain
35. The main purpose of the text is to ________.
A. describe the difference between happiness and fun
B. show the true meaning of happiness
C. encourage people to pursue fun activities
D. advise people to find their real life

If you think you’re not especially smart or capable, or that failure is bound no matter how hard you try, you’re right. 36 You can do it by using these five tips to start appearing as confident on the outside as you will soon feel on the inside.
* Buy clothes that fit. Clothes never make the person, but it’s hard to feel confident inside when your outside sends signals of uncertainty. 37 * Keep laughing. Laughter releases (释放)some of the tension that builds in your body each day. 38 You don’t have to overdo it, but a bit of humor goes a long way toward elevating your level of confidence.
* 39 It helps to break things down into achievable pieces, and start to accomplish them, easy ones first, thus you will develop a mindset of success. This, in turn, makes it easier to feel confident. Whatever your goals may be, find something you truly desire, make a promise to see it through to the end, and then feel the confidence of success.
* Realize you know more than you think you do. 40 Admitting you don’t have the answer is the first step toward finding it, and the right answers pave the road to confidence.
* Be enthusiastic. Be happy and excited, and allow the world to see it. Your joy and confidence will be infectious.
Start with any of the five items on this list, and start feeling better inside out today!
A. Set reasonable goals.
B. But confidence is like any other skill you develop.
C. Wait until you have a good shape to start to dress well.
D. Love what you’re wearing and the world is likely to love it too.
E. Surround yourself with people who deserve your love and dignity.

Near the town of Montignac in Southern France, visitors can find some of the most beautiful cave paintings in the world—the Lascaux Cave Paintings(拉斯科洞窟壁画). The history of these paintings is very interesting. Most caves are formed 61 nature under the ground, but some have entrances people can find. That’s just what happened one day in 1940. Four boys were taking 62 walk in the woods near Montignac. As they walked along, one of them noticed an unusual rock. 63 they got closer, they found it wasn’t a rock but an opening in the ground. This opening led to a cave, so they decided to have a look around it. The walls of the cave were 64 (cover)with ancient art. The boys didn’t know it, but the cave was the find of the century! Over the years, many historians and artists came to study the art. They wanted to understand who painted the pictures and 65 they might mean. They soon realized some of the art indicated animals that were on Earth a long time ago. Many of the pictures also showed people __66 (follow)animals and trying to kill them for food. In the end, historians agreed that this was likely to be the art of a civilization that existed over 15,000 years ago.
By 1950, over a thousand people from all over the world were visiting the cave every day. But by 1955, the paintings were beginning to become difficult 67 (see). Many people were passing through the cave, so the paintings were losing their color.
68 (sad), people can no longer visit the cave. However, another set of cave paintings has been created. These paintings look exactly the same 69 the Lascaux Cave

One possible version:
Dear Zhang Hong,
I’m sorry to hear that you didn’t do well in y our last exam. You are not the only one who seems to try his best but ends up with a failure in exams. Quite a number of students feel the same way as you and they tend to lose their confidence and don’t want to study hard any longer. I’m sure you know that it’s unwise to do so because you might be left far behind.
I was once in the same situation as yours. Failure is the mother of success. In face of failure, what we need to do is to calm down and reflect on our learning methods and make some possible changes or to ask the teachers for advice. Anyway, Rome is not built in a day. Only by sticking to studying persistently can we make progress step by step till success. I truly hope I can be of some help to you.
Yours ever,
Li Hua

(Text 10)
W: I took my first trip to Ogunquit this past week with a friend. I decided on the Admiral’s Inn after seeing a few pictures on their website. I called the hotel directly to reserve a room, and the gentleman on the other end was very pleasant.
On travel day, we hit more traffic than expected. We called to let the hotel know that we would be a late check-in, and they were fine with it, stating that someone would be at the front desk until at least midnight. We finally made it by 11:30 p.m. Marty at the front counter was fantastic when we arrived. He gave us an overview of the town, what to see, what to do, how to get around.
The hotel itself was perfect for us. The room was really spacious. There was
a small mini fridge that worked great. The bathroom was clean and also spacious.
My only real dissatisfaction with the room is that the main window has thick curtains which work wonderfully, but there’s no privacy curtains. If you want any natural light in the room, you become completely exposed to anyone walking by. A soft white curtain added under the current thick curtains would be perfect.。
