病人找医生说自己在网上看病的英语作文Online Medical Confusion
My name is Jamie and I'm 10 years old. A few weeks ago, I wasn't feeling very well. I had a sore throat, stuffy nose, and I felt really tired all the time. I thought maybe I just had a regular cold at first. But after a few days, I still didn't feel any better. In fact, I felt worse!
My throat was hurting more and more every day. It was getting hard to even swallow. My nose was so stuffed up that I could barely breathe through it. And I just had no energy to do anything fun. I didn't want to play outside with my friends or do any of my usual activities. All I wanted to do was lay around on the couch.
My mom started to get worried about me. She asked if I wanted to go to the doctor, but I said no. I don't like going to the doctor's office if I can avoid it. It's boring sitting in the waiting room forever. And I hate getting poked with needles or having that thing shoved down my throat to look at my tonsils. No thank you!
Instead, I decided to try diagnosing myself by looking stuff up online. I spent hours scrolling through medical websites on
my tablet, trying to match my symptoms. I came across so many possible illnesses and conditions that I started getting really confused and anxious.
Was I coming down with strep throat? No, wait, maybe it was mono! Or could it be some kind of horrible, exotic disease that would require tons of hospital treatment? By the end of my "research" I was convinced I had something super serious.
I finally broke down crying to my mom, telling her I thought I might have some crazy, deadly illness based on what I had read online. I was so scared! But my mom just laughed and hugged me tight.
"Jamie, you can't trust everything you read on the internet, especially when it comes to medical advice," she said. "You're probably just dealing with a nasty cold or sinus infection. But we should still get you checked out by a real doctor to be sure."
The next day, my mom made an appointment for me to see our family doctor, Dr. Miller. As we sat in the waiting room, I felt my anxiety bubbling up again. What if the websites were right and I had some horrible disease?? I couldn't stop thinking worst case scenarios.
Finally, it was my turn to go back and see the doctor. I explained all my symptoms to Dr. Miller - the sore throat, congestion, fatigue, everything. Then he examined me, looking in my ears, eyes and throat. He listened to my breathing too.
After the examination, Dr. Miller smiled. "Well Jamie, you don't have some crazy disease after all. It seems you're just dealing with a case of strep throat along with a sinus infection. It's nothing too serious, but we'll get you started on some antibiotics and other medication to feel better quickly."
I was so relieved! No deadly illness, just plain old strep and a sinus infection. Things I've had before that always went away after taking medicine for a little while. As Dr. Miller wrote out prescriptions for me, he said "You know Jamie, you were wise not to totally trust those medical websites. They can be helpful for learning about symptoms sometimes. But they often make things seem much worse than they really are. It's always best to come see me or another doctor in person when you aren't feeling well."
My mom thanked Dr. Miller and I nodded my head in agreement. "Yeah, I'm never trying to self-diagnose myself online again. That was way too stressful! From now on, I'll just come see you first thing if I'm sick."
Dr. Miller chuckled. "That's probably for the best. Now let's get you started on this medication and you'll be good as new in no time!"
I left the doctor's office feeling relieved, but also having learned a very important lesson. While the internet can be useful for looking up general information sometimes, it's no replacement for an actual medical professional. The next time
I'm not feeling well, I'll skip the online searching and WebMD self-diagnosis. Instead, I'll go straight to making an appointment with my doctor. That's definitely less stressful than scaring myself half to death thinking I have some crazy illness I read about on the web!。
