Who should take out the garbage Who gets to pick what to watch on TV To make a decision, some people play rock, paper, scissors. “It is a special sport,” Wyatt Baldwin said. He is president of the World Rock Paper Scissors Association. Baldwin is skilled at the
game. He once had a 43-game winning streak. “The secret to his success Look for patterns in your opponent’s (对手) moves,” Baldwin says.
People have been playing rock, paper, scissors for a long time. The game was probably played in China about 2,000 years ago. Today, people play it all over. In Indonesia, it’s known as semut, orang, gajah. This means “ant, person, elephant.” The Japanese version of the game is called janken. People in Singapore play bird, stone, water. Many people think rock, paper, scissors is all luck. Your chances of winning or losing seem the same. But the game is not completely random (随机的). All serious rock, paper, scissors players know this.
A 2014 study in China found two key patterns in the way people play. Winners tend to repeat their winning hand symbols. But losers tend to go from rock to paper to scissors.
So what’s the best way to win a game of rock, paper, scissors Expert players think about their next move. They also think about what their opponent’s next move might be. “There ar e lots of different strategies that are always running through my mind,” Baldwin says.

We got out the raft (木筏) as fast as we could, put all our things on it, and moved off down the river. When it began to get light, we hid. When it was dark again, we travelled on.
On the fifth day, we passed St Louis, and we decided to go on down to Cairo in Illinois, sell the raft there and get a boat to Ohio. There are no slaves (奴隶) in Ohio. After some time, we saw lights on the Illinois side of the river and Jim got very excited. He thought it was Cairo, but it wasn’t Cairo.
After that, we went on down the river. It was very dark and it wasn’t
easy to see where we were going. Suddenly, a big steamboat came at us very fast and hit the raft. Jim and I jumped off the raft into the water.
When I came up out of the water, I couldn’t see Jim anywhere. I called out his name again and again, but there was no answer. “He may be dead!” I thought. Slowly, I swam to the side of the river and saw that I was near a big old wooden house. Suddenly a lot of very angry dogs jumped out at me. Someone called from the house, “Who’s there ”
“George Jackson,” I lied quickly. “I’ve fallen off a river boat.”Well, the people treated me very well and I told them that my family were all dead, so they said I could stay with them as long as I wanted. A few days later, one of the slaves in the house came to me and said, “Come with me!” We went down to some trees by the river. On the ground, I found a man, asleep. It was Jim!
