injured, displaced or sick creatures can be heartbreaking;survival is never certain. However, when it works,it is simply beautiful.I got a rescue call from a woman in Muttontown. She had found a young owl(猫头鹰)on the ground. When I arrived,I saw a 2﹣to 3﹣week﹣old owl.It had already been placed in a carrier for safety.I examined the chick(雏鸟)and it seemed fine.If I could locate the nest,I might have been able to put it back, but no luck.My next work was to construct a nest and anchor it in a tree. The homeowner was very helpful.A wire basket was found.I put some pine branches into the basket to make this nest safe and comfortable.I placed the chick in the nest, and it quickly calmed down. Now all that was needed were the parents, but they were absent.I gave the homeowner a recording of the hunger screams of owl chicks. These advertise the presence of chicks to adults;they might also encourage our chick to start calling as well.I gave the owner as much information as possible and headed home to see what news the night might bring.A nervous night to be sure, but sometimes the spirits of nature smile on us all!The homeowner called to say that the parents had responded to the recordings.I drove over and saw the chick in the nest looking healthy and active. And it was accompanied in the nest by the greatest sight of all﹣LUNCH!The parents had done their duty and would Educational,Scientific and Cultural Organization)recently set April 30 as a day to raise awareness of jazz music, its significance, and its potential as a unifying (联合)voice across cultures.Despite the celebrations, though,in the U.S.the jazz audience continues to shrink and grow older, and the music has failed to connect with younger generations. It's Jason Moran's job to help change that.As the Kennedy Center's artistic adviser for jazz,Moran hopes to widen the audience for jazz, make the music more accessible, and preserve its history and culture."Jazz seems like it's not really a part of the American appetite,"Moran tells National Public Radio's reporter Neal Conan."What I'm hoping to accomplish is that my generation and younger start to reconsider and understand that jazz is not black and write anymore. It's actually color, and it's actually digital."Moran says one of the problems with jazz today is that the entertainment aspect of the music has been lost."The music can't be presented today the way it was in 1908 or 1958.It has to continue to move, because the way the world works is not thesame,"says Moran.Last year,Moran worked on a project that arranged Fats Waller's music for a dance party,"just to kind of put it back in the mind that Waller is dance music as much as it is concert music,"says Moran."For me,it's the recontextualization. In music, where does the emotion(情感)lie? Are we,as abstract as a Charlie Parker record gets us into a dialogue about our emotions and our thoughts?Sometimes we lose sight that the music has a wider context,"says Moran,"so I want to continue those dialogues. Those are the things I want to foster."28.Why did UNESCO set April 30 as International Jazz Day?A.To remember the birth of jazz.B.To protect cultural diversity.C.To encourage people to study music.D.To recognize the value of jazz.29.What does the underlined word"that"in Paragraph 3 refer to?A.Jazz becoming more accessible.B.The production of jazz growing faster.C.Jazz being less popular with the young.D.The jazz audience becoming larger.30.What can we infer about Moran's opinion on jazz?A.It will disappear gradually.B.It remains black and white.C.It should keep up with the times.D.It changes every 50 years.31.Which of the following can be the best title for the text?A.Exploring the Future of Jazz.B.The Rise and Fall of Jazz.C.The Story of a Jazz Musician.D.Celebrating the Jazz Day.32.(8分)A buld﹣it﹣yourself solar still(蒸馏器)is one of the best ways to obtain drinking water in areas where the liquid is not readily available.Developed by two doctors in the U.S.Department of Agriculture,it's an excellent water collector.Unfortunately, you must carry the necessary equipment with you, since it's all but impossible to find natural substitutes. The only components required, though, are a 5'×5'sheet of clear or slightly milky plastic, six feet of plastic tube, and a container﹣perhaps just a drinking cup﹣to catch the water. These pieces can be folded into a neat little pack and fastened on your belt.To construct a working still, use a sharp stick or rock to dig a hole four feet across and three feet deep.Try to make the hole in a damp area to increase the water catcher's productivity.Place your cup in the deepest part of the hole. Then lay the tube in place so that one end rests all the way in the cup and the rest of the line runs up﹣and out﹣the side of the hole.Next, cover the hole with the plastic sheet, securing the edges of the plastic with dirt and weighting the sheet's center down with a rock. The plastic should now form a cone(圆锥体)with 45﹣degree﹣angled sides. The low point of the sheet must be centered directly over, and no more than three inches above, the cup.The solar still works by creating a greenhouse under the plastic.Ground water evaporates (蒸发)and collects on the sheet until small drops of water form, run down the material, and fall off into the cup. When the container is full, you can suck the refreshment out through the tube, and won't have to break down the still every time you need a drink.32.What do we know about the solar still equipment from the first paragraph?A.It's delicate.B.It's expensive.C.It's complex.D.It's portable.33.What does the underlined phrase"the water catcher"in paragraph 2 refer to?A.The tube.B.The still.C.The hole.D.The cup.34.What's the last step of constructing a working solar still?A.Dig a hole of a certain size.B.Put the cup in place.C.Weight the sheet's center down.D.Cover the hole with the plastic sheet.35.When a solar still works, drops of water come into the cup form.A.the plastic tubeB.outside the holeC.the open airD.beneath the sheet. If anyone had told me three injured, displaced or sick creatures can be heartbreaking;survival is never certain. And it was accompanied in the nest by the greatest sight of all﹣LUNCH!The parents had done their duty and would probably continue to do so.24.What is unavoidable in the author's rescue work according ro paragraph 1?A A.Efforts made in vain.B.Getting injured in his work.C.Feeling uncertain about his future.D.Creatures forced out of their homes.25.Why was the author called to Muttontown?CA.To rescue a woman.B.To take care of a woman.C.To look at a baby owl.D.To cure a young owl.26.What made the chick calm down?AA.A new nest.B.Some food.C.A recording.D.Its parents.27.How would the author feel about the outcome of the event?BA.It's unexpected.B.It's beautiful.C.It's humorous.D.It's discouraging.【分析】本文写了作者做为一名救助野生动物的志愿者,挽救一个猫头鹰雏鸟的故事.【解答】24.A 推理判断题. Trying to help injured, displaced orsick creatures can be Paris and New Orleans to celebrate the first annual International Jazz Day.UNESCO(United Nations Educational,Scientific and Cultural Organization)recently set April 30 as a day to raise awareness of jazz music, its significance, and its potential as a unifying(联合)voice across cultures.Despite the celebrations, though,in the U.S.the jazz audience continues to shrink and grow older, and the music has failed to connect with younger generations. It's actually color, and it's actually digital."Moran says one of the problems with jazz today is that the entertainment aspect of the music has been lost."The music can't be presented today the way it was in 1908。

2017届上海英语高考新题型----六选四专题练习(一)(1)Have you got an addictive nature? Are you unable to stop yourself joining in with the latest obsession for collecting or doing something? This probably describes most of us because it's only human nature to not want to miss out on something that everyone else is talking about. Most fads arrive suddenly and enthusiasm for them spreads quickly. They become a talking point on social media; we read about them, give them a try and, before we know it, we are hooked. _________________________. Maybe you were the proud owner of a Rubik's cube, which became the best-selling toy of all time – around 350 million have been sold so far. Now, technology is driving the latest crazes(风靡一时的东西). In some parts of the world, flavour of the month is Pokémon Go – a game that uses augmented reality, where little virtual monsters pop up onto your phone and you have to catch them. And games such as Angry Birds and Minecraft are other crazes, available on smartphones and tablets, that have been hard to put down. Our keeness to participate in crazes has been analysed by experts. One of them, Dr Ben Michaelis, a clinical psychologist, explains that ________________________________ and this "hooks into an ancient evolutionary fear of being left behind or abandoned by our tribes"; we have to join in or lose out.Although becoming addicted to a computer game might not seem like a 'benefit', ______________________________________. It allows you to learn new skills and gives you something to talk about at parties! But fashions come and go and most fads are just a flash in the pan so if one of them is not your cup of tea, don't worry: ________________________________. Look at the addiction to the unsophisticated loom bands – those little rubber bands you could make jewellery and other things out of. For a brief period they were the must-have item for any schoolchild, now they're the bargain bucket item in a discount shop or worse still, trash filling up our landfill sites! What crazes have you been addicted to?(2)The Barking CoughYour child went to bed with a stuffy nose but he's been sleeping peacefully for a few hours. Suddenly, you hear what sounds like a barking seal over the baby monitor. ____________________________________What's probably causing it:Croup, a viral illness that causes inflammation in the larynx (voice box) and the trachea (windpipe). _________________________________, and it usually affects children ages 6 months to 3 years. Some kids tend to get croup every time they have a cold. How to help: When your child wakes up barking, bundle(穿的严实)him up and go outside , ___________________________. Or turn on a hot shower and sit with your child in the steamy bathroom for 15 to 20 minutes, since the warm, moist air also may help him breathe, says Parents advisor Jennifer Shu, M.D., editor of The American Academy of Pediatrics' Baby and Child Health. _________________________________ or he has stridor(喘鸣)that gets worse with each breath or lasts for more than five minutes. Between attacks, use a cool-mist humidifier(加湿器)in his room, and make sure he drinks plenty of liquids. Although croup usually resolves on its own, always call your doctor when you suspect it. 2017上海高考英语阅读六选四
1. Evaluating Sources of Health InformationMaking good choices about your own health requires reasonable evaluation. A key first step in bettering your evaluation ability is to look carefully at your sources of healthy information. Reasonable evaluation includes knowing where and how to find relevant information, how to separate facts from opinions, how to recognize poor reasoning, and how to analyze information and the reliability of sources. 71 Go to the original source. Media reports often simplify the results of medical research. Find out for yourself what a study really reported, and determine whether it was based on good science. Think about the type of study. 72Watch for misleading language. Some studies will find that a behavior ―contributes t o or ―is associated with an outcome; this does not mean that a certain course must lead to a certain result. 73 Carefully read or listen to information in order to fully understand it.Use your common sense. If a report seems too good to be true, probably it is. Be especially careful of information contained in advertisements. The goal of an ad is to sell you something. Evaluate scientific statements carefully, and be aware of quackery(江湖骗术).74 Friends and family members can be a great source of ideas and inspiration, but each of us needs to find a healthy lifestyle that works for us.Developing the ability to evaluate reasonably and independently about the health problems will serve you well throughout your life.A. Make choices that are right for you.B. Be sure to work through the critical questions.C. And examine the findings of the original research.D. Distinguish between research reports and public health advice.E. Be aware that information may also be incorrectly explained by an author‘s point of view.F. The following suggestions can help you sort through the health information you receive from common sources.2Eyesight plays a very important role in our daily life. Every waking moment, the eyes are working to see the world around us. Over forty percent of Americans worry about losing eyesight, but it's easy to include steps into our daily life to ensure healthy eyes. Here are five suggestions for a lifetime of healthy eyesight:• Schedule yearly exams. 37 Experts advise parents to bring babies 6 to 12 months of age to the doctor for a careful check. The good news is that millions of children now can have yearly eye exams and following treatment, including eyeglasses.• Protect against UV rays (紫外线). Long-term stay in the sun creates risk to your eyes. No matter what the season is, it's extremely important to wear sunglasses. They can properly protect your eyes.• Give your eyes a break. Two-thirds of Americans spend up to seven hours a day using computers or other digital products. 38 Experts recommend that people practice the 20/20/20 rule: every 20 minutes, take a 20-second break and look at something 20 feet away.• 39 As part of a healthy diet, eat more fruits and vegetables each day. Vitamins C and E help protect eyesight and promote eye health.• Practice safe wear and care of contact lenses Many Americans use contact lenses to improve their eyesight. While some follow the medical guidance for wearing contact lenses, many are breaking the rules and putting their eyesight at risk.40 Otherwise, you may have problems such as red eyes, pain in the eyes, or a more serious condition.A. Eat your greens.B. Eye care should begin early in life.C. Stay in good shape by taking more vitamins.D. Parents usually don’t care about their own eyesight.E. Always follow the doctor’s advice for appropriate wear.F. This frequent eye activity increases the risk for eye tiredness.3.The jobs of the future have not yet been invented. 37 . By helping them develop classic skills that will serve them well no matter what the future holds.1.CuriosityYour children need to be deeply curious. Encourage kids to cook with you. Ask kids, ―What ingredients (配料)can we add to make these pancakes even better next time ? And then try them out. Ingredients make the pancakes better? What could we try next time?2. CreativityTrue creativity is the ability to take something existing and create something new.38. There are a dozen different things you can do with them. Experimenting with materials to create something new can go a long way in helping them develop their creativity.3. Personal skillsUnderstanding how others feel can be a challenge for kids. We know what‘s going on inside our own head, but what about others? Being able to read people helps kid from misreading a situation and jumping to false conclusions. 39 . ―Why do you think she’s crying? ―Can you tell how that man is feeling by looking at his face? ―If someone were to do that to you, how would you feel?4. Self Expression40 there are many ways to express thoughts and ideas –music, acting, drawing, building, and photography. You may find that your child is attracted by one more than another.A. And we can’t forget science education.B. We can give kids chances to think about materials in new ways.C. So how can we help our kids prepare for jobs that don’t yet exist?D. Tips for Cooking on a Tight ScheduleFrom my experience, there are th ree main reasons why people don’t cook more often: ability, money and time,____37__Money is a topic I’ll save for another day. So today I want to give you some wisdom about how to make the most of the time you spend in the kitchen. Here are three tips for great cooking on a tight schedule:1. Think ahead. The moments when I thi nk cooking is a pain are when I’m already hungry and there is nothing ready to eat. So think about of the coming week. When will you have time to cook? Do you have the right materials ready? A little time planning ahead can save a lot of work later on.2. Make your time worth it. When you do find time to cook a meal, make the most of it and save yourself time later on. Are you making one loaf of bread? ___38___ it takes around the same amount of time to make more of something. So save yourself the effort for a future meal.3. ____39____ This may surprise you, but one of the best tools for making cooking worth your time is experimentation. It gives you the chance to hit upon new ideas and recipes that can work well with your appetite and schedule. The more you learn and the more you try, the more ability you have to take control of your food and your schedule.Hopefully that gives you a good start. ____40___ A nd don‘t let a busy schedule discourage you from making some great changes in the way you eat and live!A. Try new things.B. Ability is easily improved.C. Make three or four instead.D. Understand your food better.E. Cooking is a burden for many people.F.
注意逻辑关系词:but, however, therefor, for example, because, and, or, furthermore, also, in addition等等。

To read the message of a real code, you must have a code book.__4__ For example, “bridge” might stand for “meet” and “out” might stand for “me.” The message “bridge out” would actually mean “Meet me.” .It is very hard to break a code without the code book. However, it is also hard to keep a code book secret for long. So codes must be changed frequently.A.In any language, some letters are used more than others.B.Only people who know the keyword can read the message.C.As long as there have been codes, people have tried to break them.D.You can hide a message by having the first letters of each word spell it out.【试题解析】前后文都在说网上课程的发展情况,It 代指网上课程69【参考答案】F【考查内容】上下文衔接【试题解析】前文说Ng 举行了免费的网上课程,后文应讲到它的受欢迎程度才会让Ng 惊讶70【参考答案】E【考查内容】上下文衔接【试题解析】Ng根据现状好多人可以参加高水平课程的人都不是来自于名校,推出自己公司发展的前景知识点2:考纲单词(老师自行安排)一词多性归纳总结课后作业【松江,闵行】Section CDirections: Read the passage carefully. For centuries, scientists and natural philosophers have proposed that stars in the night sky have planetary systems similar to our own solar system. The existence of extrasolar planets, or exoplanets, has long been discussed. 67 Although not the first exoplanet discovery, a planet near a sun-like star was discovered by astronomers in 1995. This kicked off an era of exoplanet hunting, with thousands of discoveries and confirmations following in its wake.68 However, in 2015 NASA’s Kepler space telescope found its first Earth-sized planet in a “habitable” zone. This is the distance from a star where surf ace temperatures of a planet wouldn’t be too hot or too cold for liquid water. So far, only a small slice of our galaxy, the Milky W a y. has been explored. Even so, scientists have confirmed over 3,500 exoplanets, with more being added every day.To detect exoplanets, scientists use data from a variety of sources. Large ground-based telescopes, earth-circling and sun-circling satellites all collect different types of information. Because exoplanets are so far away and very close to stars, it is very difficult to see them directly. 69 For example, when an exoplanet moves between its star and us, it causes a small drop in the star’s brightness. Measuring this drop is the transit (凌日)method of discovery. NASA’S Kepler space telescope has discovered many exoplanets this way.As a planet circles a star, it pulls on it and causes it to shake. 70 Measuring these slight changes is the radial velocity (径向速度)method of discovering planets. It is one of the most productive methods for finding and confirming exoplanets. These are just two examples of the many methods scientists use in their hunt for exoplanets, hoping for more information and enhanced detail. As we grow older, we keep this system inside. Psychological experiments have shown that this so-called inner speech can improve our performance in tasks like telling what other people are thinking. Our words give us an interesting view of our actions. One recent study suggested that self-talk is most effective when we talk to ourselves in the second person: as “you” rather than “I”.69 if you want proof, turn on sports channel. You’re sure to see an athlete shouting at himself or herself. Talking to ourselves seems to be a very good way of solving problem and working through ideas. Hearing different points of view means our thoughts can end up in different places, just like a regular dialogue, and might turn out to be one of the keys to human creativity. Both kinds of self-talk – silent and out loud – seem to bring many different benefits to our thinking. 70 .67-70 EBDC【嘉定】Section CDirections: Read the following passage. Wilson (University of Virginia):Conversation is the most common of all human social activities, and doing it e requires that we know what our conversation partners most want to hear. 67says psychological scientist Daniel T.Gilbert of Harvard University“When our friends try to tell us about movies we’ve never seen or albums we’ve never heard, we usually find ourselves bored, confused, and underwhelmed. 68 And yet, as soon as it’s our turn to speak, we do exactly the same thing to our friends—with exactly the same consequences. We wanted to understand why this happens.”The researchers decided to do this by conducting a series of four experiments.I n their first experiment, the researchers assigned participants to groups of three, with one person acting as the speaker and the other two acting as listeners. Speakers watched a video – either a TED talk about the intelligence of crows or an interview with the owner of a specialty soda shop – and then tried to describe it to the listeners. Some of the listeners had seen the video the speaker was describing, and others had not.69 . When the speakers were done speaking, the listeners rated them on these dimensions. The results showed that speakers’ predictions were exactly backwards. Speakers expected listeners to respond more positively to their stories when the listeners had not seen the video they were describing. ____70______Although speakers expected listeners to enjoy hearing about a novel experience more than a familiar one, it was actually the other way around.A second study showed that when asked to predict their own reactions before hearing the story, listeners made the same mistake that speakers did.67—70 DEAF【虹口】Section CDirections: Read the passage carefully. The greatest advantage of the tutorial system is the various curriculums that students receive.F. In the mean time, tutorials are also beneficial for developing students’ skills of critical anal ysis. The Tutorial System of Oxford UniversityIn the University of Oxford, teaching is conducted primarily through the tutorial system. It is one of the most unique and well-known methods of teaching across the world. The weekly tutorial consists of a one-hour meeting between the tutor and small numbers of students (usually two to four). During this time, an essay prepared specifically for that tutorial is read by students and commented upon by the tutor. At the end of the tutorial, the tutor will assign the topic of study for the coming week and suggest readings. __67__ Meanwhile, they are also complemented by departmental lectures which are conducted on a university wide basis, lab work, and seminars (研讨会) often with groups of perhaps 10 students.Tutorials have gained their reputation because of the close relationship they maintain between the tutor and the student. The tutorial system provides undergraduates with direct and in most cases weekly contact with tutors in their academic fields.__68__Before the weekly tutorial, students are required to prepare an essay or other works, which they read or present to the tutor. During each tutorial, students are expected to communicate, debate, analyze and critique the ideas of others as well as their own in conversations with the professor and fellow-students. The tutorial system has great value that it creates learning and assessment opportunities which are highly authentic (可靠的) and difficult to fake, as the student’s work is discussed on the spot.__69__The contrast between tutorials and large lectures common in the American universities is obvious. In the typical American university, students are taught by the same specialists, in the same manner, and held to the same standards. However, during tutorials, students have the opportunity to explore their own ideas directly with experts in particular subjects. __70__ As a result, students must engage in extensive independent reading and research, using the resources available, under the guidance of the tutor.67-70: BFA C【浦东新区】Section CDirections: Read the following passage. The formal practice of philanthropy traces its origin to a Founding Father.Charity -Humanity’s most kind and generous desire -- is a timeless and borderless virtue, dating at least to the dawn of religious teaching. Philanthropy(慈善行为)as we understand it today, however, is a distinctly American phenomenon, inseparable from the nation that shaped it. From colonial leaders to modem billionaires like Buffett, Gates and Zuckerberg, the tradition of giving is woven into the national DNA.67. Benjamin Franklin, an icon of individual industry and frugality (节俭)even in his own day, understood that with the privilege of doing well came the price of doing good. When he died in 1790, Franklin thought to future generations, leaving in trust two gifts of 1,000 lb. of sterling silver - one to the city of Boston, the other to Philadelphia. According to his instruction, a portion of the money could not be used for 200 years. While Franklin’s gifts lay in wait, the tradition he established evolved alongside the young nation.68. Often far less famed men and women have played a critical role in philanthropy’s evolution. One of my personal heroes is Julius Rosenwald, who helped construct more than 5,300 schools across the segregated(种族隔离)South and opened classroom doors to a generation of African-American students.69. The answer is not just to benefit others. Tax reduction, for one, encourages the rich people to give. And philanthropy has long helped improve the public image of everyone from immoral capitalists to the new tech elite. More troubling, however, are the foundational problems that make philanthropy so necessary. Just before his death, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. wrote,“Philanthropy is praise-worthy, but it must not cause the philanthropist to overlook the circumstances of economic injustice which make philanthropy necessary.”Franklin’s gifts represent a broader principle. We are guardians of a public trust even if our capital came from private enterprise, and our most important obligation is ensuring that the system works more equally and more justly for more people. Some studies will find that a behavior ―contributes t o or ―is associated with an outcome; this does not mean that a certain course must lead to a certain result.73 Carefully read or listen to information in order to fully understand it.Use your common sense.
