高考专题辅导湖南省2014版高考英语专题检测卷(二十七)阅读理解
阅读理解(建议用时:25分钟)A(2013·潍坊模拟)People have wondered for a long time how their personalities and behaviors are formed. It’s not easy to explain why one person is intelligent and another is not, or why one is cooperative and another is competitive.Social scientists are, of course, extremely interested in these types of question. They want to explain why we possess certain characteristics and exhibit certain behaviors. There are no clear answers yet, but two distinct schools of thought on the matter have developed. As one might expect, the two approaches are very different from each other, and there is a great deal of debate between proponents of each theory. The argument is often conveniently referred to as nature vs. nurture.Tho se who support the“nature”side of the conflict believe that our personalities and behavior patterns are largely determined by biological and genetic factors. That our environment has little, if anything, to do with our abilities, characteristics and behavior is central to this theory. Taken to an extreme, this theory maintains that our behavior is predetermined(注定)to such a great degree that we are almost completely governed by our instincts(本能).Proponents of the“nurture”theory, or, as they are often called, behaviorists, claim that our environment is more important than our biologically based instincts in determining how we will act. Behaviorists see humans as beings whose behavior is almost completely shaped by their surroundings. Their view of the human being is quite mechanistic; they maintain that, like machines, humans respond to environmental stimuli(something that helps sb. /sth. to develop better and more quickly)as the basis of their behavior. The social and political connections of these two theories are significant. In the United States, for example, blacks often score below whites on standardized intelligent test. This leads some“nature”proponents to conclude that blacks are genetically worse than whites. Behaviorists, in contrast, say that the differences in scores are due to the fact that blacks are often robbed of many of the educational and other environmental advantages that whites enjoy, and that, asa result, they do not develop the same responses that whites do.Neither of these theories can yet fully explain human behavior. In fact, it is quite likely that the key to our behavior lies somewhere between these two extremes. That the argument will continue for a long time is certain.1. The author is mainly concerned about solving the problem .A. why our personalities and behaviors differB. what makes different stages of intelligenceC. how social scientists form different theoriesD. what causes the“nature/nurture”argument2. The underlined word“proponents”can best be replaced by.A. approachesB. advocatesC. principlesD. characters3. Which of th e following statements may be supported by the“nature”school?A. We are born with certain personalities and behaviors.B. Environment has nothing to do with our personalities.C. Abilities and characteristics are showed by behaviors.D. Only extreme behaviors are determined by instincts.4. What can we learn about the behaviorists?A. They believe human beings are mechanical.B. They compare our behaviors to the machines.C. They suggest that we react to the environment as the machines do.D. They agree that the mechanistic theory can be applied on us as well.5. The“nature”theorists believe that the blacks’low scores.A. are the result of the educational disadvantagesB. are a display of the blacks’poor intelligenceC. have nothing to do with their true intelligenceD. have nothing to do with factors other than heredityBWhen a child is told he is“uncool”, it can be very painful. He may say he doesn’t care, and even act in ways that are opposite of cool on purpose. Butthese are simply ways to handle sadness by pretending it’s notthere.Helping a child feel better in school had to be careful. Ifyou say, “Why are you worried about what other children thinkabout you? It doesn’t matter! ”Children know that it does mat ter. Instead, an active way may be best. You could say, “I’m going to do a couple of things for you to help you feel better in school. ”If a boy is having trouble making friends, the teacher can help him. The teacher can arrange things so that he has chances to use his abilities to contribute to class projects. This is how the other children learn how to value his good qualities and to like him. A teacher can also raise a child’s popularity in the group by showing that he values that child. It even helps to put him in a seat next to a very popular child, or let him be a partner with that child in activities, etc. There are things that parents can do at home, too. Be friendly when your child brings others home to play. Encourage him to invite friends to meals and then serve the dishes they consider. When you plan trips, picnics, movies, and other shows, invite another child with whom your child wants to be friends. What you can do is to give him a chance to join a group that may be shutting him out. Then, if he has good qualities, he can start to build real friendship of his own.6. A child who has been informed of being“uncool”may.A. care nothing about itB. do something uncool on purposeC. develop a sense of angerD. pretend to get hurt very much7. A teacher can help an unpopular child by .A. seeing the child as the teacher’s favoriteB. asking the child to do something for partnersC. forcing other children to make friends with the childD. offering the child chances to show his good qualities8. How can parents help their child fit in better?A. By cooking delicious food for him.B. By being kind to his schoolmates.C. By forcing him to invite friends home.D. By taking him to have picnics in the park.9. Which of the following is TRUE?A. Children don’t care others’comments on them.B. It’s only teacher’s work to make children popular.C. Parents should take their children out for picnics and shows more often.D. Inviting children’s friends to family activities is good for them to make friends.10. The text is mainly about .A. how an unpopular child can be helpedB. why some children are unpopularC. what good qualities unpopular children haveD. who care about unpopular childrenC(2013·永州模拟)Four out of ten women who diet end up heavier than when they started watching their waistline(腰围), a study revealed today. Consequently, there has been a growing interest in natural foods: foods which do not contain chemical additives and which have not been affected by chemical fertilizers, widely used in farming to- day.Natural foods, for example, vegetables, fruits and grains which have been grown in soil that is rich in organic matter. In simple terms, this means that the soil has been nourished by unused vegetable matter, which provides it with essential vitamins and minerals. This in itself is a natural process compared with the use of chemicals and fertilizers, the main purpose of which is to increase the amount—but not the quality—of foods grown in commercial farming areas.Natural foods also include animals which have been allowed to feed and move freely in healthy pastures. Compare this with what happens in the mass production of poultry: there are battery farms, for ex- ample, where thousands of chickens live crowded togetherin one building and are fed on food which is little better than rubbish. Chickens kept in this way are not only tasteless as food; they also produce eggs which lack important vitamins. There are other aspects of healthy eating which are now receiving increasing attention from experts on diet. Take, for example, the question of sugar, this is actually a non-essential food! Although a natural alternative, such as honey, can be used to sweeten food if this is necessary, we can in fact do without it. It is not that sugar is harmful in itself. But it does seem to be an additive: the quantity we use has grown steadily over the last two centuries and in Britain today each person consumes an average of 200 pounds a year! Yet all it does is provide us with energy, in the form. of calories. There are no vitamins in it, no minerals and no fibre. It is significant that nowadays fibre is considered to be an important part of a healthy diet. In white bread, for example, the fibre has been removed. But it is present in unrefined flour and of course in vegetable. It is interesting to note that in countries where the national diet contains large quantities of unrefined flour and vegetable, certain diseases are comparatively rare. Hence the emphasis placed on the eating of wholemeal bread and more vegetables by modern experts on healthy eating.61..Recently, some people are interested in natural foods because ______.A.these foods are fresh and sweetB.they don't like the processed foodsC.they want to change their eating habitsD.these foods contain more vitamins, minerals and fiber etc.62. According to the passage,to use chemicals and fertilizers means ___.A. to increase the amount of foodsB. to increase the quality of foodsC. to increase the amount and quality of foodsD. to increase essential vitamins and minerals63.It can be inferred from the passage that ____.A. People will no longer eat those foods containing chemical additivesB. Farmers will not necessarily use fertilizers to promote productionC. Natural foods will find a good market in the futureD. Certain disease will never befall people who eat natural foods64. What can we learn from the passage?A. Chickens live crowed together in one building lay more eggs.B. Natural foods refer to the food produced in the fields.C. Fewer diseases are caused by natural foods.D. Sugar seems to be an additive that is necessary for human heath65. The best title for this passage is ____.A.Eating Habits Are StableB. New Trend in Diet-natural FoodsC. Natural Foods and Chemical Additives.D. How to Go on a DietCLiving and dealing with kids can be a tough job these days, but living and dealing with parents can be even tougher. If I have learned anything in my 16 years, it is that communication is very important, both when you disagree and when you get along. With any relationship, you need to let other person know how you are feeling. If you are not able to communicate, you drift apart. When you are mad at your parents, or anyone else, not talking to them doesn’t solve anything.Communication begins with the concerns of another. It means that yo u can’t just come home from school, go up to your room and ignore everyone. Even if you just say “Hi”, and see how their day was for five minutes, it is better than nothing. If you looked up the word “communication” in a dictionary, it would say “the e xchange of ideas, the conveyance of information, correspondence, means of communication: a letter or a message”. To maintain a good relationship, you must keep communication strong. Let people know how you feel, even if it’s just by writing a note. When dealing with parents, you always have to make them feel good about how they are doing as a parent. If you are trying to make them see something as you see it, tell them that you’ll listen to what they have to say, but ask them politely to listen to you. Yelling or walking away only makes the situation worse. This is an example: one night, Sophie went to a street party with her friends. She knew she had to be home by midnight after the fireworks, but she didn’t feel she could just ask to go home. That would be rude. After all, they had been nice enough to take her along with them. Needless to say, she was late getting home. Her parents were mad at first, not when Sophie explained why she was late, they weren’t as mad and let the incident go. Communicati on is the key factor here. If Sophie’s parents had not been willing to listen, Sophie would have been in a lot of trouble.Communication isn’t a one-way deal: it goes both ways. Just remember: if you get into a situation like Sophie’s, telling the othe r person how you feel-listening is the key factor to communication.66. In the writer’s view, dealing with parents is __________ than with children.A. more difficultB. easierC. more uninterestingD. more interesting67. The main idea of the second paragraph is __________.A. the importance of friendshipB. to make your feeling known to othersC. the importance of communicationD. the disagreement between generations68. When parents and children are in communication, the key to a happy relationship isthat __________.A. children should always obey their parentsB. they should be equalC. parents play the leading partD. both make the opposite know their feelings69. The example in this passage proves that ___________.A. Sophie’s parents are willing to listen to herB. Sophie is very polite to her parentsC. Sophie did well in explaining her being lateD. communication is the solution(解决办法) to misunderstanding70. All the following statements are correct except “_______”.A. If you don’t agree with others, you’d better let them knowB. It is better to say “Hi” to others than say nothingC. If you are not able to communicate, walk awayD. Communication is a two-way dealPart IV Writing (45 marks)Section A (10 marks)Directions: Read the following passage. Fill in the numbered blanks by using the information from the passageWrite NO MORE THAN THREE WORDS for each answer.Laughter is a key component of a happy life, and it has powerful physical and mental benefits. No matter what you’re facing, you can learn to laugh and benefit from it.One of the many benefits of laughter and a sense of humor is that they protect you against the negatives of life. Researches show that people who use humor to fight stress feel less lonely and more positive about themselves.Although we can’t say that a certain number of laughs every day will keep the docto r away, studies show that people who laugh a lot tend to be in good health. And laughter is one of the most commonly used therapies (疗法) among cancer patients.Laughter could be healthy for your heart, too. Answer the questions according to the information given in the passage.A drunk driver speeding along in his SUV on the freeway last night killed three of four people in a car, which had slowed down because of the construction work on the freeway. Four lanes were merged (合并) into two. The Department of Transportation crew was making repairs to the highway. Hundreds of bright orange traffic cones (锥标) guided the merger. Four heavy duty trucks were parked in the emergency lanes. Their brightly glowing signs said, “Slow. Be prepared to stop. Construction ahead.”Missing all of these warnings, the SUV’s driver, going at least 50 mph, knocked into the car. The car driver, a computer programmer, was a recent immigrant to America. In the passenger seat was his wife, and in the back seat were his 6-year-old daughter and his 8-year-old son. It was 9 p.m. The family was going to a restaurant to celebrate the little girl’s birthday. They never knew what hit them. The collision caused the car to explode in flames. Somehow, the car driver managed to get out of the car seconds after the explosion. Third-degree burn covered much of his body. His chances for survival are slim. His life, as he knew it, is over. His loved ones were burned beyond recognition. The 28-year-old driver of the SUV was not only unhurt, but was able to escape from his SUV. He claimed that his brakes had failed. The police said that he had four convictions (定罪) for driving under the influence in the past 10 years.81. What does the car driver do? Louis have identified a gene that is required for proper development of the mouse ear, providing clues to deafness. In humans, this gene is known as FGF20. “When we inactivated(阻止活动)FGF20, we saw they were alive and healthy, ”says senior author David M. Ornitz, Professor of Developmental Biology. “But then we figured out that they had absolutely no ability to hear. ”The results show that disabling the gene causes a loss of outer hair cell, a special type of sensory cell in the ear responsible for amplifying(扩大)sound. While about two-thirds of the outer hair cells were missing in mice without FGF20, the number of inner hair cells, the cells responsible for transmitting the amplified signals to the brain, appeared normal.“This is the first evidence that inner and outer hair cells develop independen tly of one another, ”says first author Sung-Ho, PhD, research associate. “This is important because most age-related deafness and hearing loss caused by noise are due to the loss of outer hair cells. ”As such, Ornitz and Huh believe that FGF20 signaling will be a required step toward the goal of regenerating outer hair cells in mammals, incapable of hearing restoration. The FGF20 gene stands for one member of a family of proteins known as fibroblast(纤维组织母细胞)growth factors. In general, members of this family are known to play important and broad roles in embryonic(胚胎的)development, tissue maintenance and wound healing.Ornitz and his colleagues found that FGF20 signaling must occur on or before the 14th day of the embryo’s development to produce a normal inner ear. Even if FGF20 signaling occurred on the 15th day or later, the inner ear still did not develop properly. “In mice, the cells that can become outer hair cells must be exposed to the FGF20 protein at an early stage, ”Ornitz says. “After embryonic day 14, it doesn’t matter if they see the protein. It’s too late for them to become outer hair cells. ”46. After FGF20 was inactivated in mice, they.A. were not able to walk any moreB. didn’t appear abnormal immediatelyC. died without any symptoms soonD. saw an increase of outer hair cells47. According to the study, inner hair cells.A. are not affected by the absence of FGF20B. are responsible for regenerating soundC. will be missing if there isn’t FGF20D. have only been found in mice so far48. The underlined word“regenerating”in Para. 5 can be replaced by“”.A. reducingB. fightingC. preventingD. reproducing49. What can we learn from the passage?A. Mammals are capable of restoring hearing themselves.B. Age-related deafness may be cured with FGF20 signaling.C. Most deafness among people is caused by the loss of inner hair cells.D. To generate outer hair cells, cells must meet the FGF20 protein on day14.50. What is the passage mainly about?A. Why people become deaf.B. How to cure deafness.C. A new discovery about the gene FGF20.D. How the ear works.PartⅢWriting(45 marks)Section A(10 marks)Directions: Read the following passage. Fill in the numbered blanks by using the information from the passage.Write NO MORE THAN THREE WORDS for each answer.Renewable energy is natural energy that can be used repeatedly and will never run out.Renewable energy comes from natural processes. Renewable energy has various forms. It can come directly from the sun, the ocean, or heat deep within the earth.Renewable energy is also known as green or clean energy, because the process of complete change does not cause the emission(排放)of greenhouse gas, which is harmful to the environment.Renewable energy sources include solar energy, wind energy, geothermal(地热的)energy(from the inside of the earth), ocean energy, hydropower(水力发电), natural gas, tide power, wave power and so on.Renewable energy can be used without using it up. There is no greenhouse gas emission, no pollution emission—no contribution to global warming. It is healthy and environmentally friendly. All forms of renewable energy are expensive. This is because it is a new technology and has extremely large capital cost. But as time goes on and technologies develop, renewable energy generally gets cheaper, while mineral fuels generally get more expensive.Renewable energy can be used for power generation, hot water, space heating, transport fuels and so on. But it is difficult to generate the quantities of electricity that are as large as those produced traditionally. Soif we use renewable energy, we will need to build more energy facilities. The best solution is to have a balance of many different power sources.Renewable energy often relies on the weather for its source of power. Hydro generators need rain to fill dams to supply flowing water and solar collectors need sunshine to collect heat and make electricity. This can be unpredictable.Section B(10 marks)Directions: Read the following passage. Answer the questions according to the information given in the passage. How we look and how we appear to others probably worry us more when we are in our teens or early twenties than at any other time in our life. Few of us are content to accept ourselves as we are, and few are brave enough to ignore the trends of fashion. Most fashion magazines or TV advertisements try to persuade us that we should dress in a certain way or behave in a certain manner. If we do, they tell us, we will be able to meet new people with confidence and deal with every situation confidently and without embarrassment.Changing fashion, of course, does not apply just to dress. A barber today does not cut a boy’s hair in the same way as their fathers and grandfathers used to, and girls do not make up in the same way as their mothers and grandmothers did. The advertisers show us the latest fashionable styles and we are constantly under pressure to follow the fashion in case our friends think we are odd or dull. What causes fashions to change? Sometimes convenience or practical necessity or just the fancy of an influential person can establish a fashion. Take hats for example—In cold climates, early buildings were cold inside, so people wore hats indoors as well as outside. In recent times, the late President Kennedy caused a depression in the American hat industry by not wearing hats: more American men followed his example. There is also a cyclical pattern in fashion. In the 1920s in Europe and America, short skirts became fashionable. After World WarⅡ, they dropped to ankle length. Then they got shorter and shorter and the miniskirt was in fashion. After a few more years, skirts became longer again.Today, society is much freer and easier than it used to be. It is no longer necessary to dress like everyone else. Within reason, you can dress as you like or do your hair the way you like instead of the way you should because it is the fashion. The popularity of jeans and the“untidy”look seems to be a reaction against the increasingly expensive fashion of the top fashion houses.61. What do the fashion magazines or TV advertisements claim to bring us? (No more than 2 words)(2 marks)____________________________________________________________ _______62. Why does the writer take President Kennedy as an example? (No more than 14 words)(3 marks)____________________________________________________________ ________63. What does the writer try to explain by talking about short skirts? (No more than 8 words)(2 marks)____________________________________________________________ ________64. Why are jeans so popular according to the writer? 阅读理解(建议用时:25分钟)A体裁说明文话题手机对人体的影响词数370 Millions of people are using cell phones today. In many places it is actually considered unusual not to use one. In many countries, cell phones are very popular with young people. They find that the phones are more than a means of communication—having a mobile phone shows that they are cool and connected. The explosions around the world in mobile phone use make some health professionals worried. Some doctors are concerned that in the future many people may suffer health problems from the use of mobile phones. In England, there has been a serious debate about this issue. Mobile phone companies are worried about the negative publicity of such ideas. They say that there is no proof that mobile phones are bad for your health. On the other hand, why do some medical studies show changes in the brain cells of some people who use mobile phones? Signs of change in the issues of the brain and head can be detected with modern scanning(扫描)equipment. In one case, a traveling salesman had to retire at a young age because of serious memory loss. He couldn’t remember even simple tasks. He would often forget the name of his own son. This man used to talk on his mobile phone for about six hours a day, every day of his working week, for a couple of years. His family doctor blamed his mobile phone use, but his employer’s doctor didn’t agree. What is it that makes mobile phones potentially harmful? The answer is radiation. High-tech machines can detect very small amounts of radiation from mobile phones. Mobile phone companies agree that there is some radiation, but they say the amount is too small to worry about. As the discussion about their safety continues, it appears that it’s best to use mobile phones less often. Use your regular phone if you want to talk for a long time. Use your mobile phone only when you really need it. Mobile phones can be very useful and convenient, especially in emergencies. In the future, mobile phones may have a warning label that says they are bad for your health. So for now, it’s wise not to use your mobile phone too often.1. The mother was having a major operation and would be lying down for several weeks. Of course, I responded with an immediate“Yes! ”. As I planned the meal in my head, I reflected on how many times over the years I had been asked to prepare food. I have done so countless times with a very open heart. But the truly amazing thing is that I have received double over the course of my life. When my mother passed away, our house was filled with fresh dinners for weeks. A woman from the church of our community stopped by each evening with some food. The gift of food was her small way oftrying to ease our pain.Later in my life, when I was on bed rest during my pregnancy with twins, women of the church again stepped in to help. They arranged babysitting for my two-year-old daughter, and brought lovely dinners to our house. Even when I was put in the hospital, my husband would bring cooked meals to my hospital room. How we relied on these dinners to feed my tired husband and young daughter.Food is all about comfort. It feeds our bodies, but it can also feed our souls. When you hear people talking about their favourite holidays, it usually includes their feelings connected with sharing food. Reducing the amount of garbage we produce in the first place is one of the best ways to save the planet. From Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2012, I saved every piece of my garbage. No, I’m not homeless, and I didn’t lose my mind. Keeping all my trash meant literally living with the impact of my daily decisions, which led me to make dramatic changes in my lifestyle.I should clarify that I saved all my nonbiodegradable(不能生物降解的)trash—things like glass, foam, and plastics, which don’t rot naturally. I set aside banana peels, coffee grounds, eggshells, and other biodegradable waste for composting(制成堆肥). Just as I washed my dishes, I scrubbed my soda cans, potato chip bags, and juice bottles with soap and water and hung them on my dish rack to dry. “Doesn’t your trash stink? ”people often asked. As long as I washed and dried everything, it didn’t smell.I believe that“waste”is actually a resource that can be used rather than discarded. Saving my tra sh allowed me to recycle or“repurpose”it. Rather than throw out my plastic bags, I’ll put them into plastic bottles that can be sued as“bricks”to build bus stops, benches, and even houses. This spring, I was part of a group of students at the University of California, Davis, who used plastic bricks to create a bench for the campus.Though I won’t be saving all my trash again this year, my experience has permanently changed my consumption habits. Every time I go to the grocery store, I bring reusable bags. And I avoid consuming drinks from glass bottles. In short, I’ll never again be able to buy anything without pausing to ask myself: Is this really something I need? Is there a way to get it that involvesless waste? I also hope that all people will see“waste”as just a resource in the wrong place.11. What does the author mainly talk about in Paragraph 3?A. How he cleaned his trash.B. How he dealt with his trash.C. How he stored biodegradable waste at home.D. How he selected his nonbiodegradable trash.12. In the mid-1950s, I was a somewhat bored early-adolescent male student who believed that doing any more than necessary was wasted effort. One day, this approach threw me into embarrassmentIn Mrs. Totten‟s eighth-grade math class at Central Avenue School in Anderson, Indiana, we were learning to add and subtract decimals (小数).Our teacher typically assigned daily homework, which would be recited in class the following day. On most days, our grades were based on our oral answer to homework questions.Mrs. Totten usually walked up and down the rows of desks requesting answers from student after student in the order the questions had appeared on our homework sheets. She would start either at the front or the back of the classroom and work toward the other end.Since I was seated near the middle of about 35 students, it was easy to figure out which questions I might have to answer. This particular time, I had completed my usual two or three problems according to my calculations. What I failed to expect was that several students were absent, which threw off my estimate. As Mrs. Totten made her way from the beginning of the class,I desperately tried to determine which math problem I would get. I tried to work it out before she got to me, but I had brain freeze and couldn‟t function. When Mrs. Totten reached my desk, she asked what answer I‟d got for problem No. 14. “I (I)didn‟t get anything,” I answered, and my face felt warm.“Correct,” she said.It turned out that the correct answer was zero. What did I learn that day? A Valuable LessonThe behaviour of a building‟s users may be at least as important as its design when it comes to energy use, according to new research from the UK Energy Research Centre (UKERC). The UK promises to reduce its carbon emissions (排放) by 80 percent by 2050, part of which will be achieved by all new homes being zero-carbon by 2016. But this report shows that sustainable building design on its own —though extremely important —is not enough to achieve such reductions: the behaviour of the people using the building has to change too.The study suggests that the ways that people use and live in their homes have been largely ignored by existing efforts to improve energy efficiency (效率),which instead focus on architectural and technological developments.…Technology is going to assist but it is not going to do everything,‟explains Katy Janda, a UKERC senior researcher, …consumption patterns of building user s can defeat the most careful design.‟ In other words, old habits die hard, even in the best-designed eco-home.Another part of the problem is information. Households and bill-payers don‟t have the knowledge they need to change their energy-use habits. Without specific information,it‟s hard to estimate the costs and benefits of making different choices. Feedback (反馈) facilities, like smart meters and energy monitors, could help bridge this information gap by helping people see how changing their behaviour directly affects their energy use; some studies have shown that households can achieve up to 15 percent energy savings using smart meters.Social science research has added a further dimension (方面),suggesting that individuals‟behaviour in the home can be personal and cannot be predicted — whether people throw open their windows rather than turn down the thermostat (恒温器) , for example.Janda argues that education is the key. She calls for a focused programme to teach people about buildings and their own behaviour in them.66. As to energy use, the new research from UKERC stresses the importance of________.A. zero-carbon homesB. the behaviour of building usersC. sustainable building designD. the reduction of carbon emissions67. The underlined word “which” in Paragr aph 2 refers to”________.”A. the waysB. their homesC. developmentsD. existing efforts68. What are Katy Janda‟s words mainly about?A. The importance of changing building users‟habits.B. The necessity of making a careful building design.C. The variety of consumption patterns of building users.D. The role of technology in improving energy efficiency.69. The information gap in energy use _______.A. can be bridged by feedback facilitiesB. affects the study on energy monitorsC. brings about problems for smart metersD. will be caused by building users‟ old habits70. What does the dimension added by social science research suggest?A. The social science research is to be furthered.B. The education programme is under discussion.C. The behaviour of building users is unpredictable.D. The behaviour preference of building users is similar.七选五:When I was a kid my parents sent me to a summer camp in New Hampshire. ___71___ At camp we did tons of great things like swimming, sports, and archery, but for me, the most memorable experience was an overnight trip of mountain climbing. We do this because we know for sure that going on vacations must be good for us. Research proves this feeling without a doubt. Vacations help us perform better at work, improve our sleep quality and cushion us against depression.Yet, despite these benefits, many of us return home with a feeling that our last vacation was OK - but not great. In order to change this, some mistakes should be avoided. A classic one for vacation planners is attempting to maximize value for money by planning trips that have too many components (组成部分). Perhaps you‟re planning a trip to Europe, seven cities in 10 days, and you realize it will cost only a little more to add two more destinations to the list Sounds fine in theory, but hopping from one place to the next hardly gives an opportunity to experience what psychologists call mindfulness - time to take in our new surroundings, time to be present and absorb our travel experiences. Another mistake is that we worry too much about strategic issues such as how to find a good flight deal, how to get from A to B,or which destinations to add orsubtract from our journey. These issues may seem important, but our psychological state of mind is far more important.Actually, vacation happiness is based on the following top rules. First, choose your travel companions wisely, because nothing contributes more significantly to a trip than the right companions. Second ,don‟t spend your vacation time in a place where everything is too expensive so as to maintain a positive mood. Third, shop wisely, for meaningful experiences provide more long-term happiness than physical possessions.Section B (10 marks)Kids and PondsYears ago there was a group of kids who would hang around at some local ponds in the woods near their houses in Warwick, Rhode Island. In summer they caught frogs and fish. When winter arrived they couldn‟t wait to go skating. Time passed, and the ponds became the only open space for the kids to enjoy themselves in that neighborhood. One day. a thirteen-year-old boy from this group of kids read in the local newspaper that adeveloper wanted to fill in the ponds and build over a hundred small houses called condominiums. So the boy went door to door and gathered more than two hundred signatures (签名)to stop the development A group of citizens met and decided to support him.At the meeting of the town planning board (委员会),the boy was quite nervous at first and spoke very softly. But when he saw the faces of his friends and neighbors in the crowd and thought about what was happening to their favorite ponds ,his voice grew louder. He told the town officials that they should speak for the citizens. He also insisted that they should leave enough space for children. A few days later ,the developer stopped his plan.Title :Happy__71._ benefits mistakes to be avoided ____78_____ ● a better __72__ at work ● an improved __73__ ● a reduced level of depression● a(n) ___74__ to maximize value for money ● too much __75__ about the following issues finding a(n) __76__ selecting the best travel route __77__ or subtracing destinations ● making a wise __79__ of travel companions● Choosing destinations properly● __80__Nine years later, when that teen was a senior in college, he was informed that the developer was back with his proposal to build condominiums. Now twenty-two years old, he was studying wetlands ecology. He again appeared before the town planning board. This time as an expert witness, he used environmental protection laws to explain restrictions on development in and around wetlands and the knowledge of wetlands ecology to help improve the development. Finally some condominiums were built, but less than half the number the developer wanted. The ponds where those kids used to hang around were protected by a strip of natural land, and are still there today.81. A classic one for vacation planners is attempting to maximize value for money by planning trips that have too many components (组成部分)•Perhaps you’re planning a trip to Europe, seven cities in 10 days, and you realize it will cost only a little more to add two more destinations to the list Sounds fine in theory, but hopping fromone place to the next hardly gives an opportunity to experience what psychologists call mindfulness - time to take in our new surroundings, time to be present and absorb our travel experiences. Another mistake is that we worry too much about strategic issues such as how to find a good flight deal, how to get from A to B,or which destinations to add or subtract from our journey. These issues may seem important, but our psychological state of mind is far more important.Actually, vacation happiness is based on the following top rules. First, choose your travel companions wisely, because nothing contributes more significantly to a trip than the right companions. Second, don’t spend your vacation time in a place where everything is too expensive so as to maintain a positive mood. Third, shop wisely, for meaningful experiences provide more long-term happiness than physical possessions.Section B (10 marks)Directions: Read the following passage. Answer the questions according to theinformation given in the passage.Kids and PondsYears ago there was a group of kids who would hang around at some local ponds in the woods near their houses in Warwick, Rhode Island. In summer they caught frogs and fish. When winter arrived they couldn’t wait to go skating. Time passed, and the ponds became the only open space for the kids to enjoy themselves in that neighborhood. One day. a thirteen-year-old boy from this group of kids read in the local newspaper that a developer wanted to fill in the ponds and build over a hundred small houses called condominiums. So the boy went door to door and gathered more than two hundred signatures (签名)to stop the development A group of citizens met and decided to support him.At the meeting of the town planning board (委员会),the boy was quite nervous at first and spoke very softly. But when he saw the faces of his friends and neighbors in the crowd and thought about what was happening to their favorite ponds, his voice grew louder. He told the townofficials that they should speak for the citizens. He also insisted that they should leave enough space for children. A few days later, the developer stopped his plan.Nine years later, when that teen was a senior in college, he was informed that the developer was back with his proposal to build condominiums. What did the kids like to do at the local ponds in winter?(No more than 6 words) (2 marks)Section C (25 marks)Directions: Write an English composition according to the instructionsgiven below.学校正在组织科技创新大赛,你想为日常生活中某件物品(如钢笔、书包、鞋子……)设计添加新功能来参赛。
