第二部分阅读理解(满分40分)阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

21.(6分)Jeremy Baras remembers the first time he ever saw a pop-up restaurant. The 26-year-old entrepreneur
was on vacation in England four years ago and had to look up at the London Eye Ferries wheel to see it. Hanging above him was a capsule(航天舱) full of diners who were served a new course each time a revolution was made. “I thought that was the coolest thing ever”, he says. Baras, who founded in 2012 to promote the idea of pop-up restaurants in the USA, has been studying them ever since.
Pop-ups, which have been around since at least the early 2000s, are open anywhere from a few hours to several months, but their defining feature is that they are temporary. They may be only a tiny part of the $709 billion U.S. restaurant industry, but pop-ups have gotten a boost in recent years as a lower-cost, lower-risk way for entrepreneurs to test the waters. Some restaurant owners see them as a way to renew interest in existing locations. And some struggling cities, like Oakland, California, have turned to them to help revitalize local economies impacted by the recession(衰退).
The concept has been especially popular with up-and-coming chefs who want to test-drive as a menu concept without investing a fortune in a permanent space. “Your cooks and chefs are really talented, but they’re stuck in the back of somebody else’s kitchen cooking somebody else’s menu,” says Zach Kupperman, chief businessman officer and co-founder of Dinner Lab.
Chefs in Dinner Lab cook in the middle of space, give a brief introduction about the menu and themselves — and then bravely listen to diner feedback afterward. Pop-ups’ temporary nature also allows restaurateurs to charge a deposit to make sure the diners will show up.
Of course, trends in the food industry come and go quickly, and there is no guarantee that diners won’t tire of the concept. Some entrepreneurs have resorted to even weirder locations — in a former limestone mine, say, or at the top of
a crane —to keep customers interested. “It’s not quite part of the mainstream economy yet.” says Baras.
1、What does the underlined part “a revolution was made” in Paragraph One possibly mean?
A.Chefs designed creative dishes.
B.Diners tasted food in a new and creative way.
C.The capsule containing diners made a circle.
D.Great changes were made in the food industry.
2、Perspective chefs are drawn to pop-ups due to the fact that ________.

B.they have the desire to explore a safer way to make a living

D.pop-ups provide a changeable test field for talented chefs’ creativity
3、The writer’s purpose of writing the passenger is ________.
A.to appeal to people to dine out in pop-up restaurants
B.to give a brief introduction of pop-up restaurants
C.to warn business owners of the appearance of pop-up restaurants
D.to foresee the future of pop-up restaurants’ development
22.(8分)Women in East Asia are putting tiny pegs into their nostrils so their nose could look more European. The beauty trend apparently started from South Korea about two years ago and has spread to Japan, Chinese mainland and Taiwan, where women with a pointier European nose are considered more attractive.
The beauty trend, however, has sparked serious health concerns. In a recent case from China, a woman reportedly swallowed a peg by accident and the small item was later found in her stomach.
The non-surgical nose-lifting trend apparently involves a set of tools which are popular on shopping websites in East and South-east Asia. A typical set consists of two small curved pegs, measuring two to three centimetres long, as well as one adjusting hook.
The most popular brand seems to come from South Korea, but various other copycat products have cropped up and sell for as little as 1 pound. According to the instructions online, users should first insert the two pegs into their nostrils respectively. The pegs are said to be made with silicone. Then they should use the hook to adjust the pegs so they stand in a 45-degree angle inside the nose. One seller on China’s popular shopping site, Taobao, claimed that because the product was invisible, it could be a woman’s secret w eapon in getting a beautiful nose without surgery.
An advertisement posted by the seller said the product, said to be “anti-bacteria”, could change the shape of a nose in less than 10 seconds and is safe to use. However, potential customers are advised not to wear them for more than eight hours.
Although the nasal pegs are popular among beauty-conscious females, they have also brought health issues to the customers. Last November, a 25-year-old woman in Taipei nearly lost her nose after a peg poked through her nasal membrane and caused a bacterial infection, according to Apple Daily.

A.The most popular brand peg comes from South Korea.
B.Women in East Asia are putting tiny pegs into their nostrils.

D.A pointier European nose is in fashion at present.

23.(8分)A 12-year-old with end stage cancer, the child’s parents had recently moved her from the hospital to her home in the suburbs of Los Angeles. Some days later the g irl’s breath quickened, and her father phoned the family’s hospice nurse. Please come, he said.
The nurse knew the visit would require more than four hours of her time: a two-hour drive in each direction, plus her time with the girl. Why don’t we connect o ver FaceTime, she asked. The father agreed, and they connected.
The nurse asked the father to move his daughter gently to her side, then to her back, to lift the child’s shirt. The nurse would ask: What do you see, what concerns you, and the father would explain. In this fashion the pair examined the girl --- the nurse on her computer, the father his iPad. Together they decided that the nurse’s presence was not necessary, that the child had more time.
Later, the father reported feeling comforted by the nurse. He appreciated her availability, the fact that she could see what he saw, and their ability to discuss it in real time.
Telemedicine has become a trend in America. Some hospitals have gone so far as to specially design telemedicine clinics. The room is staged like an office but with better lighting. There’s a nice desk for the clinician to sit behind, a computer situated stage left, and books in the background. A physician taking a video call from home might wear a pair of headphones, equipped with a mic --- to ensure whatever the patient says isn’t broadcast to anyone off-camera.
However, there is something more than the technology bit. According to David, the head of the telemedicine pilot the girl’s family had been part of, there are some people who are great in person and you put them on camera they’re a dead fish. “Some physicians are camera shy. For others, the physical isolation can actually help them be more empathetic.” He adds.

How does this job offer sound? You’ll need to be available on short notice, including late at night and on weekends. You could be asked to do anything from helping at community events to responding to life-threatening emergencies (sometimes putting your own safety at risk). This job also involves a lot of regular training. Oh, and you won't be paid for any of this. Would you take the job?
This job might not necessarily appeal to everyone, but if this sounds like an opportunity you’d eagerly accept, then you’d fit right in with Western Australia’s 26,000 emergency service volunteers. It can also be a means to help loved ones. A case is someone close to me who recently lost her husband to a disease. When her husband was admitted to a nursing facility, she decided to volunteer for the patient advocacy committee. She found great support and felt she could make a difference in the lives of the patients. After her husband's passing, she decided to continue volunteering for the committee not only as a way to show gratitude for the great care her husband received but also because she made
friends there. She found a way to put her career skills to use for the common good and keep active after retirement.

29、Dear editor,
I am writing to tell you about what I saw while traveling during this winter vacation. I was surprised to see so many immoral behaviors in public places. Some people spit at wherever they went; some scratched their names on the street walls or other scenic spots, which did great damage to them.
In my opinion, it’s high time we should take action to help improve the situation. First, certain laws should be passed to ensure people won’t damage the environment. Second, our media should also take responsibility to guide people to protect the environment. Last but not least, we travelers should learn to be more responsible for what we did.
Only by working together can we make our country become more and more beautiful!
Best wishes!
Yours,
Li Hua。
