Target language:
How does the story begin? Once upon a time, there was a very old man...
What happened next? As soon as the man finished talking, Yu Gong said that his family could continue to move the mountains after he died.
Why was Yu Gong trying to moving the mountains? Because they were so big that it took a long time to walk to the other side.
2.Ability objectives:
Students will be able to figure out some well-known legends or stories.
Students will be able to tell a story;
3.Moral objectives:
What you can learn from the story?
What do you think of Yu Gong and Zhi Sou?

Step 1 Greetings and lead-in
Greet students with daily greetings. Play a guessing game to help students relax and lead in the new class in the mean time.
Step2 Presentation
a.>Activity1a;
Invite students to go on a magic travel with me. And say something about the story – Yu Gong Moves a Mountain. After that, let students go on their own travelling, and learned the other 3 Chinese fairy tales and new words ‘shoot’.
b.> Activity 1b;
Get students listen to the tape recording to finish activity 1b. After that, check their answers as a whole and enjoy a short video clip of this part.
c.> Activity 1c;
Students will be given 3 minutes to discuss about the three questions with their partners after listening and watching. Then students will be asked to
answer the questions individually. Learn the new word ‘stone’.
d.> Make students think that if they were the neighbor or the children of Yu
Gong, what they would say? After that show students a short video clip of the rest stories.
e.> Activity 2b;
Help students learn the new word ‘weak, god, remind’ before listening.
Play the listening material two times for students to finish activity 2b. Check
the answers individually.
Step3 Practice
Divide students into 3groups and give them 5 minutes to prepare a 2-minute play of Yu Gong Moves a Mountain. After that, get 3groups to show in the front.
Step4 Consolidation
Give students three minutes to discuss their views on Yu Gong and Zhisou.
Then make a short report in groups. Learn new word ‘silly’.
Step5 Extension and Summary
Tell students that Yu Gong is just a common person. Although he met many difficulties in his life, he didn’t give up. Finally he succeeded. We’re also common people. In our life we will also meet those difficulties and
discouragements, but as long as we keep working hard and have persistence, we will be successful in the end.
Step6 Homework
Show students a funny new version of Yu Gong Moves a Mountain, and then let students write new versions of other Chinese fairy tales. Share their
stories with classmates.
