英语四级阅读模拟练习
Introduction:
The English Reading section of the CET-4 exam assesses candidates' reading comprehension and ability to understand and analyze various types of texts. To help you prepare for the exam, this article provides a simulated practice exercise. The following passage is followed by a series of questions. Read the passage carefully and answer the questions accordingly.
Passage:
Butterflies are insects in the macrolepidopteran clade Rhopalocera from the order Lepidoptera, which also includes moths. Adult butterflies have large, often brightly colored wings, and conspicuous, fluttering flight. As with all insects, butterflies have a body divided into three parts: the head, the thorax, and the abdomen. They have two antennae, two compound eyes, and a proboscis.
Butterflies are always welcomed by people because of their beauty and their associations with fair weather and good luck. In addition, butterflies have the ability to pollinate plants while feeding on nectar, making them important for plant reproduction. Some butterfly species are also known to migrate long distances, such as the monarch butterfly.
It is believed that butterflies have been on Earth for at least 50 million years. Fossils of butterflies have been found that date back approximately 40 to 45 million years ago, resembling modern-day butterflies. The evolution of butterflies is closely linked to the evolution of flowering plants, as butterflies and flowering plants have developed a mutualistic relationship over time.
Butterflies undergo a process known as complete metamorphosis, which consists of four stages: egg, larva (caterpillar), pupa (chrysalis), and adult. During this process, the caterpillar transforms into a butterfly through a series of physical changes. The exact duration of the metamorphosis process depends on various factors, including temperature and species.
Questions:
1. What are the three parts of a butterfly's body?
2. Why are butterflies popular among people?
3. What is the significance of butterflies in plant reproduction?
4. How long have butterflies been present on Earth?
5. What is the process of metamorphosis in butterflies called?
6. Which factors influence the duration of butterfly metamorphosis?
Conclusion:
This simulated practice exercise provides you with an opportunity to enhance your reading comprehension skills in preparation for the CET-4 exam. Remember to carefully read the passage before answering the questions and try to apply effective reading strategies. By practicing frequently, you can improve your ability to understand and analyze different types of texts. Good luck with your exam preparation!。
