He hoses down (用水管浇) the backyard and the front walkway, and even gets halfwa y down the street, until we yell, “Dad, you c an’t hose down the world!” Then he comes inside and starts brushing the fingerpr
ints off the walls. So, no dog.
When I was eight, we moved to a larger house, with a pool, i n a gated community. I was very against moving. Why, I cried, were we leaving everything and everyone we knew and loved ?! Our old house was great; it was on a hill! Well, to calm me down, my parents told me that we could get a dog after the m ove. Now, in my twenties, I have a dog. He is fluffy (毛茸茸的), but not too fluffy; small, but not too small; white, but not to o white. He is amazing. I don’t even believe in perfection reall y, but this dog is perfect for ME. It’s the dog I always dreamt o f having, and he loves me as I knew a dog would.
At first I was not used to having a non-
human, living thing with a beating heart following me around. Now I give the dog water, walk him and teach him how to lie i n his bed while we are eating, so as not to bother us.
In some ways, I am glad I have been forced to wait until this age to have a dog. I don’t take him for granted. I am happy ev ery morning when I wake up and hear his little nails clicking a cross the floor. I can see how a dog is not for everyone. They require a lot of attention and love.

The demands of the modern world are growing day by day an d this is putting more pressure on scientists to do research. H owever, as stated by , “There is no hope of doing perfect rese arch”. Naturally, there have been a lot of criticisms, as many s cientists immediately announce that their research methods a re very safe and that they have the perfect research theory. However, scientific history is filled with examples, in which a p erfect scientific solution that was based on decades of scientif ic research, has been overturned with new theories. Naturally, the first example that comes to mind is the fact that ’s Theori es were thought to be very safe and they were used in all field s of science. For centuries, thousands of scientists around the world used Newton’s Theories to formulate(创
立) other theories.
However, after nearly two centuries of use, ’s Theories were f ound to be not as perfect as they were thought. Though Einst ein’s publication on the General Theory of Relativity, it was fo und that ’s laws were imperfect in explaining all motions that were taking place in our universe. It was found to be imperfect under some conditions, even though, ’s laws are still used to day to predict motion at low speeds.
Thus, perfect research is only a myth. Of course, this does no t mean that a scientist should simply give up and accept impe rfection in his or her research efforts. Improvements and chan ges in research techniques and methods are a natural part of evolution and it is each scientist’s responsibility to take it forw ard as much as possible.
While the final answer to the universe’s question may never e xist, a time will come when there will be fewer questions as ne w answers are found and more improved research is carried o ut by scientists around the world.
25. Why have there been a lot of criticisms?
A. The modern world demands more and more.
B. Scientists have a negative attitude.
C. Many scientists arrive at their conclusions too fast.
D. does not believe what scientists say.
26. Through the publication of the General theory of Relativity , ’s Theories turned out to be .
A. not so perfect
B. completely
C. very safe
D. very precise
27. What will scientists do to deal with the “imperfectness” pro blem?
A. Accept the fact and give up.
B. Improve and change their methods and techniques.
C. Try their best to carry out the perfect study.
D. Ignore it and do as they please.
28. We can learn from the last paragraph that .
A. the universe’s questions are sure to have a final answer.
B. the number of questions is sure to increase with the passin g of time.
C. scientists are carrying out improved studies.
D. there will be many new scientists in the world in the future.

At first I was not used to having a non-
human, living thing with a beating heart following me around. Now I give the dog water, walk him and teach him how to lie in his bed while we are eating, so as not to bother us.
In some ways, I am glad I have been forced to wait until this age to have a dog. I don’t take him for granted. I am happy every morning when I wake up and hear his little nails clicking ac ross the floor. I can see how a dog is not for everyone. They require a lot of attention and lov e.

The demands of the modern world are growing day by day and this is putting more pressure on scientists to do research. However, as stated by , “There is no hope of doing perfect rese arch”. Naturally, there have been a lot of criticisms, as many scientists immediately announc e that their research methods are very safe and that they have the perfect research theory. However, scientific history is filled with examples, in which a perfect scientific solution that wa s based on decades of scientific research, has been overturned with new theories. Naturally, the first example that comes to mind is the fact that ’s Theories were thought to be very safe and they were used in all fields of science. For centuries, thousands of scientists around the world used Newton’s Theories to formulate(创立) other theories.
However, after nearly two centuries of use, ’s Theories were found to be not as perfect as the y were thought. Though Einstein’s publication on the General Theory of Relativity, it was foun d that ’s laws were imperfect in explaining all motions that were taking place in our universe. I t was found to be imperfect under some conditions, even though, ’s laws are still used today t o predict motion at low speeds.
Thus, perfect research is only a myth. Of course, this does not mean that a scientist should si mply give up and accept imperfection in his or her research efforts. Improvements and chang es in research techniques and methods are a natural part of evolution and it is each s cientist’
s responsibility to take it forward as much as possible.
While the final answer to the universe’s question may never exist, a time will come when ther e will be fewer questions as new answers are found and more improved research is carried o ut by scientists around the world.
25. Why have there been a lot of criticisms?
A. The modern world demands more and more.

C. Many scientists arrive at their conclusions too fast.
D. does not believe what scientists say.

A. not so perfect
B. completely
C. very safe
D. very precise
27. What will scientists do to deal with the “imperfectness” problem?
A. Accept the fact and give up.
B. Improve and change their methods and techniques.
C. Try their best to carry out the perfect study.
D. Ignore it and do as they please.
28. We can learn from the last paragraph that .
A. the universe’s questions are sure to have a final answer.
B. the number of questions is sure to increase with the passing of time.

Instagram is containing so many photos of food—now a pop-
up diner in London is taking advantage of this new trend by letting people settle the bill for th eir meals simply by uploading photos of their dishes to social networks.
I always thought people's taking pictures of their food was kind of silly, but at this new pop-up restaurant in the UK, I'd probably do it too.“The Picture House”is the world's first pay-by-photo restaurant—you order, click a photo of the food, share on Instagram and eat for free!。
