Not having the opportunity for a lot of quality time, they go in for quantity --- giving lots of gifts and taking the children on non-stop outings. But now I can understand. I’m a weekend mom. My child, Henry, is a dog.Henry just returned to his father, Jack, after a happy stay with me. For ten days, I fed him the best food, canceled plans to stay home with him and let him sleep on the bed every night.Jack and I broke up a year ago. But neither of us wanted to part with Henry, so we share him. Not surprisingly, Henry is a willing participant in our contest for his love.Jack doesn’t let Henry sleep on his bed, so that’s where I can always gain big points. I feed Henry higher-quality food. I am always replacing his expensive “thingy”, a cotton kno t he likes chewing on. It’s his favorite toy, and the only one he has is at my house. Score another one for me.Jack now has a girlfriend, Lucy. At first she was afraid of dogs, which secretly delighted me. But that Henry, just trying to be polite (the way I taught him to be), won her over.If truth be told, as time passes, there has been a slight change in Henry’s behavior toward me. The worst was one day when Jack dropped him off for a two-week stay. Henry and I were in the backyard playing as Jack was d riving off. When he heard Jack’s truck, he ran after it for two blocksuntil Jack had to stop and bring him back. That hurt, especially since I had friends over at the time. In a rare conciliatory(安抚的)mood, Jack said to me, “You know, I’m his best friend, but you’ll always be his mom.”Whatever it takes, I plan to make sure it stays that way.59. At the writer’s home, Henry ____________.A. does a lot of runningB. enjoys high-quality foodC. has many expensive toysD. is not allowed to sleep on her bed60. The writer feels hurt because ____________.A. Jack has got a girlfriendB. Lucy doesn’t like Henry at allC. Jack doesn’t treat Henry as well as beforeD. Henry’s attitude to her has changed slig htly61. This article is mainly about ____________.A. the tips on keeping dogsB. the writer’s happy life with a dogC. the writer’s efforts to win a dog’s loveD. the relationship between the writer and Jack62. The writer wrote the passage in a/an ____________ way.A. humorousB. seriousC. angryD. painfulCThis is a story told or read to children of young ages. The heroine(女主人公), Cinderella, treated cruelly by her stepmother and her two ugly stepsisters, is helpless until the right magic comes along. She meets her prince and they live together happily.Just a sweet, pretty tale? Not in the view of Ellen Macintosh, who has written much about fairy tales. Ellen’s main concern is with what the story implies. “Instead of standing up to her cruel stepmother and stepsisters, Cinderella just waits for a fairy godmother to appear and solve her problem. But wouldn’t you want a daughter of yours to show more spirit?”The story is long-lasting, whatever its shortcomings, and it doesn’t take much to see its influence on a number of recent Hollywood productions. In these versions for the silver screen, the Cinderella character no longer has to clean the house and has no sisters to make her life terrible, though she keeps the way of not showing much courage. The character of the rich and handsome stranger, however, is kept, and in some cases really is a prince. The role of the fairy godmother is often played by luck; we live in a civilized age when even very young children might reject the idea of fairies. In the majority of film versions, the heroine has a profession and is even permitted to continue working after marrying her prince --- this is the twenty-first century, after all.Doesn’t the success of these films indicate that the story has relevance to children even today? “Yes,” admits Ellen, who sees its message as being rooted in a fundamental childhood desire for love and attention. “Most children experience a sense of inner loneliness as they are growing up and empathize with (与…共鸣) the character who faces some sort of challenge. This can be seen in the original story of Cinderella, where the fairy godmother tells the heroine that she must learn to be gracious and confident if she is to go to the ball. She has to grow spiritually, and by maturing, she becomes attractive to the prince, thus ensuring that the ending of the story will be happy.” “In the later versions, this element(因素)is missing,” says Ellen, “and the theme of the story is simply that a girl’s role in life is t o be more beautiful than other girls so that she can carry off the prize: the handsome prince. Is this really what we want girls to grow up believing?”63. Why does Ellen disapprove of the Cinderella story?A. The plot is too simple.B. The description is not vivid.C. The heroine is not brave enough.D. The story is unfit for the children today.64. In the film versions of the Cinderella story, ____________.A. luck plays an important role in the heroine’s happy lifeB. Cinder ella’s family background remains unchangedC. the heroine becomes a successful career womanD. the character of the prince is removed65. According to Ellen, the film versions of the story _________.A. succeed because of the happy endingB. ignore the children’s psychological needC. deliver a mistaken message that beauty is everythingD. reflect modern people’s attitude toward challenges in life66. What is the purpose of the passage?A. To analyze the characters of the Cinderella story.B. To introduce different versions of the Cinderella story.C. To explain the changes of the Cinderella story over time.D. To present a different understanding of the Cinderella story.DSchool Counselling(咨询)In our grandparents’ time, it was unthinkable. In our parents’ time, it was unusual and nobody spoke openly about counselling. These days, more and more schools are asking for this service and it is considered a necessity for most. Why is it? What has changed in the last fifty years to have made counselling at schools so important?“One reason is that we expect schools to do more to protect their pupils than we did in the past,” says school counsellor, Mike Hudson. “Also, our society doesn’t work as well as it should. Many parents are either under pressure of work or face the economic problems of unemployment, while children are under more and more pressure to do well at school. Many pupils feel they are pushed to their limits by their parents and teachers. ”Most school children face some kind of relationship problem at some stage with family members, teachers or other pupils, so it helps to have somebody to talk to. From the pupils’ point of view, it is easier to talk to a counsellor in confidence rather than a family member or teacher. This solution is less embarrassing to pupils, who are not forced to face the person that they had problems with in the first place. They can calmly talk things through without arguments.School counsellors advise not only students but also their teachers and parents, and offer other services as well, such as deciding learning disabilities or assisting parents and guardians to make the correct decisions about their children’s education.Counsellors can help students with problems ranging from the most serious, like a death in the family, to what an adult would consider really trivial, like an argument with a friend. In a society that is becoming more and more stressful, this service is providing children with a supportive way to express their fear and worries.67. Why is school counselling becoming important?A. Pupils are not well protected in school.B. Parents can’t help their children in learning.C. Parents and pupils are under too much pressure.D. The relationship between parents and schools is worse.68. According to the passage, school counsellors ____________.A. bear high pressure themselvesB. are the guarantee of school successC. have more responsibilities than teachersD. are more likely to be accepted when pupils have problems69. Being a journalist in the real world looks very different from writing stories. Maybe if we spent some time exposing them to real life experience - maybe two or three courses m areas of interest in high school that give them a "feel" for what that particular field would look like, they might be better prepared. I do not know the solution, but it seems that it should at least be a topic of discussion. 1、Why does the author mention the movie Easy A? A.To prove the importance of book learning. B.To show the parents' ignorance of spelling. C.To lead to the topic he is going to talk about. D.To share with the readers his feeling about the movie. 2、The author believes that A.students need to focus on the skills in learning B.parents and school should be consistent in education C.his daughter is smart enough to make her own choice D.courses in areas of interest in high schools will benefit students 3、The underlined word "daunting" in Paragraph 6 probably means_____ A.discouraging B.specific C.rewarding D.regular 4、What is mainly discussed in the passage? A.Schools should prepare students for the real life. B.What students learn in school should be practiced in life. C.Life experience is of greater importance than school education. D.Students should spend more time discussing practical problems.The term, culture shock, describes the anxiety produced when a person moves to a completely new environment. This term expresses the lack of direction, the feeling of not knowing what to The feeling of culture shock do, and not knowing what is appropriate or inappropriate. generally sets in after the first few weeks of coming to a new place. We can describe culture shock as the physical and emotional discomfort one suffers when coming to live in another country or place. Often, the way that we lived before is not accepted Everything is different, for example, not speaking as or considered as normal in the new place. the language, not knowing how to use banking machines and so forth. Although one can experience real pain from culture shock, it is also an opportunity for resetting one' s life objectives. As long as the air-conditioning(空调) was working and the TV remote had batteries in it, I'was ready for a relaxing summer holiday. But then, out of the blue, this happened - " Pack your bags. We' re going on a road trip ! " Mom said excitedly. This isn't the first time Mom has sprung a trip on us without any warming. Last year onthe first day of summer, she said we were going .to visit Aunt Loretta at the nursing home.It wasn't exactly my idea of a fun way to kick off the summer. One time when we visited Aunt Loretta, her roommate grasped me and wouldn' t let me go until someone gave her a chocolate cookie !Mom kept talking about going to the nursing home for a whole day, which made me worry a lot. But at breakfast the next morning, she told us where we were really going - Disney World.I was very happy, because I was really worried about spending the whole week at the nursing home. So was Dad.But when my little brother, Danny, heard about the change he became very angry. Mom had talked up the Aunt Loretta trip so much that Danny was actually excited about going there. We ended up putting off our trip to Disney so we could visit Aunt Loretta.I tried to talk Mom into letting us do something normal, like going to a water park for the day, but she didn't want to hear it. This term expresses the lack of direction, the feeling of not knowing what to do, and not knowing what is appropriate or inappropriate. The feeling of culture shock generally sets in after the first few weeks of coming to a new place. We can describe culture shock as the physical and emotional discomfort one suffers when coming to live in another country or place. Often, the way that we lived before is not accepted as or considered as normal in the new place. Everything is different, for example, not speaking the language, not knowing how to use banking machines and so forth.Although one can experience real pain from culture shock, it is also an opportunity for resetting one' s life objectives. It is a great opportunity for learning and acquiring new viewpoints. Culture shock can make one develop a better understanding of oneself.Culture shock has many stages. The first stage is called the "honeymoon" stage. The new arrival may feel excited as everything is new.In the second stage, a person may encounter some difficult times in daily life. Forexample, communication difficulties may occur such as not being understood. There may be feelings of discontent, anger, sadness, and feeling incompetence. This happens when a person is trying to adapt to a new culture. Transition (过渡) between the old methods and those of the new country is a difficult process and takes time to complete. The third stage is characterized by gaining some understanding of the new culture. One may start to feel a certain psychological balance. The new arrival may start to have a feeling of direction and want to belong. In the fourth stage, the person realizes that the new culture has good and bad things to offer. The person has a more solid feeling of belonging and starts to set goals for living. The fifth stage is called the " re-entry shock". This occurs when a return to the country of origin is made. One may find that things are no longer the same. For example, some of the newly acquired customs are not in use in the old culture. Many factors (因素) contribute to the length and effects of culture shock. For example, the individual' s state of mental health, type of personality, previous experiences, familiarity with the language, and level of education. So the five stages are present at different times and each person has their own way of reacting. 64. What do we learn about culture shock?64. What do we learn about culture shock?A. It has negative effect on people.B. Its effect can differ from person to person.C. It disappears when people return to their homelands.D. It can be avoided if one can understand the language.65. Which stage of culture shock is Tommy in?Tommy moved to France with his parents two months ago. But now he still cannot get used to the life there. He also has problems in schooling. Even worse,he doesn't think anybody cares about him.A. Stage 2.B. Stage 3.C. Stage 4.D. Stage 5.66. The main purpose of the passage is to________A. discuss and clarifyB. argue and adviseC. introduce and explainD. compare and evaluateDCertainly, a well-rounded education is the foundation from which all of us spring forth. I am grateful to the many incredible teachers who have inspired me to do greater things, and have fired my enthusiasm for everlasting learning!I have also been honored to have the most amazing teachers in all of my children's lives. These are extraordinary people who not only teach our children, but love them, challenge them, and provide an environment where a child learns how to learn. But, sometimes I wonder if the outline of our educational plan is lacking something. I watched the movie Easy A with my older daughter. The main character' s parents were loving, supportive, and built great confidence in their daughter and developed her ability to handle her own problems. There was a scene where the mother was speaking to the younger child and he announced that he received an "A" on his spelling test. She replied, "That' s great, honey, but everything has spell check these days. " It was funny --- but TRUE ! I don't mean that we shouldn't teach our children how to spell, but maybe some of our time should be spent educatingthem about the dangers of posting things on Facebook.Maybe we might want to spend time showing them how real life works - the credit card isn't free money - you will have to pay it back at sometime. Oh, and get this - they charge you for borrowing that money. Perhaps, we should spend some time on interpersonal relationships. I worry that our kids do not know how to relate to one another.Choosing a career (职业) is a daunting task. My daughter is in her second year in college and has changed her major twice. It' s not that she didn' t know what she wanted to do. What she "wanted to do" and the degree she chose did not match.I have learned many college students do not know what they want to do because they haven' t seen what it looks like in the real world. Being a journalist in the real world looks very different from writing stories. Maybe if we spent some time exposing them to real life experience - maybe two or three courses m areas of interest in high school that give them a "feel" for what that particular field would look like, they might be better prepared. I do not know the solution, but it seems that it should at least be a topic of discussion.67. Why does the author mention the movie Easy A?A. To prove the importance of book learning.B. To show the parents' ignorance of spelling.C. To lead to the topic he is going to talk about.D. To share with the readers his feeling about the movie.68. The author believes thatA. students need to focus on the skills in learningB. parents and school should be consistent in educationC. his daughter is smart enough to make her own choiceD. courses in areas of interest in high schools will benefit students69. The underlined word "daunting" in Paragraph 6 probably means_____A. discouragingB. specificC. rewardingD. regular70. What is mainly discussed in the passage?A. Schools should prepare students for the real life.B. What students learn in school should be practiced in life.C. Life experience is of greater importance than school education.D. Students should spend more time discussing practical problems.每二节(共5小题;每小题2分,共10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的七个选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

Other days, I feel a sense of expectation within me just thinking about fall that makes me want to burst. Tonight, all five of us were in the family room doing our own things. At this moment, my littlest kid is my number one trouble and my number one joy. He has a tooth on the way and although it‘s such a tiny thing, it‘s causing so much grief. I‘m holding him a lot and I‘m not going to lie. I live for his afternoon nap (小睡) so I‘m able to actually get dressed and use the restroom. The big E is starting school soon. The other day, I found myself a bit depressed about the end of summer and the beginning of another school year. I looked out of our front window with eyes that were heavy and a bit teary. Then, I suddenly realized just how silly this end of summer depression of mine is. I can‘t change time. But, I can change my emotions and my thoughts. I decided not to spend my final days of summer vacation walking around with a sad face. I decided to hug the last few days of summer and remind myself that before I know it, we will be back in our school routine and all will go well. This week we plan on meeting teachers. I‘m taking my girl to have her nails done before her firs t day of kindergarten. We want to bake a few dozen cookies. We‘ll take our evening walks as usual and stay up late. And last but not least, I‘ll get sc hool cloth ready, I‘ll pack lunches and write lunch notes, we‘ll read―The Kissing Hand,‖ like we normally do, and I‘ll tuck (掖好被子) my third grader and kindergartener in their little beds before the big first day.Thank you summer, you‘ve been warm and wonderful, you‘ve been sweet and sticky, you‘ve been refreshing and exactly what we need. And your sunsets have been amazing, so thank you.56. According to Paragraph 1, the author __________.A. feels excitedB. has mixed feelingsC. feels worriedD. has bad feelings57. How will the author spend the final days of the summer vacation?A. Live a simple life.B. Stay at home and relax herself.C. Treasure the vacation.D. Walk around with a depressed face.58. From the passage, we can learn that the author __________.A. is fond of reading novelsB. has two annoying childrenC. often takes evening walksD. has no time to get dressedBCCBEver walked to the shops only to find, once there, you‘ve completely forgotten what you went for? Or struggled t o remember the name of an old friend? For years we‘ve accepted that a forgetful brain is as much a part of ageing as wrinkles a nd grey hair. But now a new book suggests that we‘ve got it all wrong.According to The Secret Life of the Grown-up Brain, by science writer Barbara Strauch, when it comes to the important things, our brains actually get better with age. In fact, she argues that some studies have found that our brain hits its peak between our 40s and 60s – much later than previously thought.Furthermore, rather than losing many brain cells as we age, we retain them, and even produce new ones well into middle age. For years it‘s been assumed that brain, much like the body, declines with age. But the longest, largest study into what happens to people as they age suggests otherwise. This continuing research has followed 6,000 people since 1956, testing them every seven years. It has found that on average, participants performed better on cognitive (认知的) tests in their 40s and 50s than they had done in their 20s. Specifically, order people did better on tests of vocabulary, verbal memory (how many words you can remember) and problem solving.Where they performed less well was number ability and perceptual speed– how fast you can push a button when ordered. However, with more complex tasks such as problem-solving and language, we are at our best at middle age and beyond. In short, researchers are now coming up with scientific proof that we do get wiser with age.Neuroscientists are also finding that we are happier with ageing. A recent US study found older people were much better at controlling and balancing their emotions. It is thought that when we‘re younger we need to focus more on the negative aspects of life in order to learn about the possible dangers in the world, but as we get older we‘ve learned our lessons and are sub-consciously aware that we have less time left in life: therefore, it becomes more important for us to be happy.59. Barbara Strauch probably agrees that __________.A. the young are better at handling important thingsB. people‘s brains work best between their 40s and 60sC. ageing leads to the decline of the function of the brainD. wrinkles and grey hair are the only symbols of ageing60. The continuing research has found older people perform better on __________.A. vocabulary testsB. number abilityC. perceptual speedD. body balance61. People are happier with age because __________.A. they learn to value the time leftB. they know how to share feelingsC. they cannot focus on negative aspectsD. they do not realize the possible dangers62. What is the main idea of the passage?A. People get wiser with age.B. People get more forgetful with age.C. People get happier with age.D. People get more self-aware with age.BAAACEveryone procrastinates. We put things off because we don‘t want to do them, or because we have too many other things on our plates. Putting things off – big or small – is part of being human. But procrastination does have consequences. When your procrastination leaves you feeling discouraged, it is time to take action, and one of the best ways to get rid of it is to make an un-schedule.An un-schedule is a weekly calendar of all the ways in which your time is already accounted for. You consider not only your timed commitments such as classes and meetings, but also your untimed activities such as meals, exercise, time with friends, and the like. Once you have made your un-schedule, you may be able to see your time is often filled with more activities than you realize, for instance, that you really don‘t have five hours to spend writing on the night before your paper is due. Procrastinators‘ views of time tend to be unrealistic, and the un-schedule can help you outline a realistic plan. By planning accordingly, you will not only get a better night‘s sleep, you may also end up with a better paper. The un-schedule might also be a good way to get started on a larger project, such as a term paper or an honors paper. Youmay think that you have ―all semester‖ to get the writing done, but if you really map out how much time you have available to write on a daily and weekly basis, you will see that you need to get started sooner, rather than later. In addition, the un-schedule may reveal especially busy weeks or months, which will help you budget time for long-term projects.Perhaps most importantly, the un-schedule can help you examine how you spend your time. You may be surprised at how much time you spend watching television, and decide to make a change. It‘s especially important that you build time for fun activities into your un-schedule. Otherwise, you will procrastinate in order to steal time for relaxation. You can also use the un-schedule to record your progress towards your goal. Reward yourself for your small successes. Seeing what you‘ve achieved will help you reinfor ce (强化) the productive behavior, and you will feel more motivated in the following process. As you explore ways to conquer procrastination, don‘t expect overnight transformation. You developed the habit over a long time; you aren‘t going stop magically. But you can change the behavior, bit by bit. If you start to make an un-schedule now, you will eventually develop new habits.63. From Paragraph 2, we can know that procrastinators __________.A. usually have sleeping problemsB. tend to be unrealistic in daily lifeC. spend more time in doing exerciseD. often fail to notice untimed activities64. Which of the following statements best reflects an un-schedule?A. ―Now I have more time for fun.‖B. ―I can start my big project later.‖C. ―I‘ll treat myself to a movie for my progress.‖D. ―I‘m going to have more time to finish my paper.‖65. According to the writer, people need to make an un-schedule because of their __________.A. interests in doing things differentlyB. determination to try out new thingsC. inability to manage time properlyD. lack of concentration on a project66. The author writes the passage to __________.A.show concernsB. offer suggestionsC. express dissatisfactionD. make commentsDCCBDI wish documentaries, not movies. I read history books, not fiction. I use every free moment to accomplish one of the tasks on my never-ending checklist, and I am completely filled with thoughts of productivity. An hour sleeping is an hour wasted. And like the rest of 21st century America, I like it. But this fixation on productivity is increasingly destroying character and transforming men into robots.New York Times c olumnist David Brooks warned American University students of this cultural decline in a speech. ―We cut off all things spiritual and emotional in a competitive urge to stand out‖, he said, ―The pressure to succeed professiona lly, to acquire skills, to do the things you need to do to succeed in an information age economy really became the overwhelming (难以应付的) pressure, and it sort of eclipses the thinking about character and morality. Many students happily go to college, viewing it as a next step on their rise to professional achievement. Forcing as many success-building activities into their schedul es as they can, they enjoy keeping busy with little sleep. ―Today‘s outstanding kids are likely to spend their afternoons and weekends shuttling from one skill-improving activity to the next,‖ Brooks wrote in an article, ―We fear failure more than we desire success.‖A century ago, college was about character building. Today, our characters are in decline. We are experts on economics, material things and professional skills. We fail to discuss and understand relationships, emotions and all things spiritual. Philosophers Karl Popper divided the world into two categories: Clocks and Clouds. Clock problems are those that can be taken apart, examined and solved through deductive reasoning (演绎推理). Clouds cannot be taken apart. Cloud problems represent whole systems that need to be understood in a different way.―When we have a Cloud problem, we try to turn into a Clock problem,‖ Brooks said. And in a reason-centered culture, adding titles to one‘s resume becomes a trend. At American University, 85 percent of seniors (and 89 percent of business majors) graduate with at least one practical experience which is often helpful to a student‘s future career, but can sometimes draw f ocus away from academics. To prevent the death of man‘s character, Brooks urges rediscovering our human natures through falling in love. And by love he means love for a task, job, or another person. ―Synchronicity is key to happiness,‖ he said. Rather than crazily increasing our long lists of accomplishments, we need to lose ourselves in what we do, and success will come on its own.67. From Paragraph 1, we can learn that people __________.A. are controlled by timeB. are keen on reading booksC. are changing their charactersD. are eager to achieve more68. In Paragraph 2, the underlined word ―eclipses‖ means __________.A. deletesB. weakensC. worsensD. emphasizes69. The last paragraph mainly tells us that __________.A. love is more important than focusB. the focus on human natures countsC. more work contributes to happinessD. success comes from devotion to work.70. The purpose of this passage is to __________.A. bring awareness to character buildingB. stress the importance of productivityC. warn about the pressure to seek successD. criticize students‘ desire for achievementsDBDA第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,共10分)Weighing the OptionsMaking decisions when shopping is often a to ugh cal l. Even if you‘re satisfied with the first dress you try on, would you go on looking for alternatives, comparing styles and prices, until literally dropped dead?Psychology researchers have studied how people make decisions and concluded there are two bas ic styles. ―Maximize r s‖ like to take their time and weigh a wide range of options, – sometimes every possible one –before choosing. ―Satisficers‖ would rather be fast than thorough.__________ (71) So even if they see what would seem to meet their req uirements, they can‘t make a decision until after they‘ve examined every option to make sure that they‘re making the best possible choice. Researchers followed 548 job-seeking college seniors at 11 schools from October through their graduation in June. They found that the maximizers landed better jobs. __________ (72)―The maximizers is kicking himself because he can‘t examine every option and at some point had to just pick something,‖ they say. ―Maximizers make best decisions and end up feeling bad about them. __________ (73)‖Satisficers also have high standards, but they are happier than maximizers. Maximizers tend to be more depressed and to report a lower satisfaction with life, his research found.Faced with so many choices in our lives, we need to learn how not to waste time and energy on our decision-making._________ (74) For instance, if you‘re picking a restaurant for lunch meeting, first deciding on a certain part of town or type of cuisine can narrow your options.Once you‘ve arriv ed at a decision, stick with it. __________ (75) To limit the number of options you can set a time for decision-making. Say you are buying a new bag, you could spend an amount of time studying features, price and value – but if you give yourself only five minutes to make a decision, and there are only bags you can consider, you‘ll save time. You‘ll be happier with your decision, too.A. Maximizers are people who want the best.B. First of all, decrease your range of options.C. Comparing is often a must when you make a decision.D. Just accept that no decision is ever completely perfect.E. Satisfiers make good decisions and end up feeling good.F. The other is to make decisions more accurately at the beginning.G. The main character's parents were loving, supportive, and built great confidence in their daughter and developed her ability to handle her own problems. There was a scene where the mother was speaking to the younger child and he announced that he received an "A" on his spelling test. She replied, "That' s great, honey, but everything has spell check these days. " It was funny --- but TRUE ! I don't mean that we shouldn't teach our children how to spell, but maybe some of our time should be spent educating them about the试卷第2页,共13页dangers of posting things on Facebook.Maybe we might want to spend time showing them how real life works - the credit card isn't free money - you will have to pay it back at sometime. Oh, and get this - they charge you for borrowing that money. Perhaps, we should spend some time on interpersonal relationships. I worry that our kids do not know how to relate to one another.Choosing a career (职业) is a daunting task. My daughter is in her second year in college and has changed her major twice. It' s not that she didn't know what she wanted to do. I do not know the solution, but it seems that it should at least be a topic of discussion. 1、 Why does the author mention the movie Easy A? A .To prove the importance of book learning. B .To show the parents' ignorance of spelling. C .To lead to the topic he is going to talk about. D .To share with the readers his feeling about the movie. 2、The author believes thatA .students need to focus on the skills in learningB .parents and school should be consistent in educationC .his daughter is smart enough to make her own choiceD .courses in areas of interest in high schools will benefit students 3、The underlined word "daunting" in Paragraph 6 probably means_____ A .discouraging B .specific C .rewarding D .regular 4、What is mainly discussed in the passage? A . Schools should prepare students for the real life. B .What students learn in school should be practiced in life. C . Life experience is of greater importance than school education. D .Students should spend more time discussing practical problems. The term, culture shock, describes the anxiety produced when a person moves to a completely new environment. For example, communication difficulties may occur such as not being understood. This occurs when a return to thecountry of origin is made. One may find that things are no longer the same. For example, some of the newly acquired customs are not in use in the old culture. Many factors (因素) contribute to the length and effects of culture shock. For example, the individual's state of mental health, type of personality, previous experiences, familiarity with the language, and level of education. So the five stages are present at different times and each person has their own way of reacting. 64. What do we learn about culture shock?5、What do we learn about culture shock?试卷第4页,共13页A .It has negative effect on people.B .Its effect can differ from person to person.C .It disappears when people return to their homelands.D .It can be avoided if one can understand the language. 6、Which stage of culture shock is Tommy in?Tommy moved to France with his parents two months ago. But now he still can not get used to the life there. He also has problems in schooling.Even worse, he doesn't think anybody cares about him.A .Stage 2.B .Stage 3.C .Stage 4.D .Stage 5. 7、 The main purpose of the passage is to________A .discuss and clarifyB .argue and adviseC .introduce and explainD .compare and evaluateIf there's one thing I' ve learned from my years of being a kid, it' s that you have ZERO control over your own life.Ever since school ended, I haven' t had anything I' ve needed to do or anywhere I' ve needed to be. Last year on the first day of summer, she said we were going .to visit Aunt Loretta at the nursing home.It wasn't exactly my idea of a fun way to kick off the summer. But at breakfast the next morning, she told us where we were really going - Disney World. I was very happy, because I was really worried about spending the whole week at the nursing home. She said that spending a lot of time together in the car would bea " bonding" experience for the whole family.8、What did the author prefer to do during his summer holidays?A.Visit Aunt Loretta.B.Travel with his family.C.Look after his little brother.D.Watch TV comfortably at home.9、From the passage, we can learn that the author_______A.loved his aunt very muchB.got pretty excited about the road tripC.felt helpless with his mother's surprise tripsD.blamed Danny for not going to Disney World10、Who makes the final decision in the family?A.The author. with their children through visits on the weekend. Not having the opportunity for a lot of quality time, they go in for quantity﹣giving lots of gifts and taking the children on non﹣stop outings. But now I can understand.I'm a weekend mom.My child,Henry,is a dog.Henry just returned to his father,Jack, after a happy stay with me.For ten days,I fed him the best food, canceled plans to stay home with him and let him sleep on the bed every night.Jack and I broke up a year ago.But neither of us wanted to part with Henry,so we share him.Not surprisingly,Henry is a willing participant in our contest for his love.Jack doesn't let Henry sleep on his bed,so that's where I can always gain big points.I feed Henry higher﹣quality food.I am always replacing his expensive"thingy",a cotton knot he likes chewing on.It's his favorite toy,and the only one he has is at my house.Score another one for me.Jack now has a girlfriend,Lucy. At first she was afraid﹣of dogs, which secretly delighted me.But that Henry, just trying to be polite(the way I taught him to be),won her over.If truth be told,as time passes, there has been a slight change in Henry's behavior toward me.The worst was one day when Jack dropped him off for a two﹣week stay.Henry and I were in the backyard playing as Jack was driving off. When he heard Jack's truck,he ran after it for two blocks until Jack had to stop and bring him back. That hurt, especially since I had friends over at the time.In a rare conciliatory (安抚的) mood,Jack said to me,"You know,I'm his best friend, but you'll always be his mom."Whatever it takes,I plan to until the right magic comes along. She meets her prince and they live together happily.Just a sweet, pretty tale? Not in the view of Ellen Macintosh, who has written much about fairy tales.Ellen's main concern is with what the story implies."Instead of standing up to her cruel stepmother and stepsisters,Cinderella just waits for a fairy godmother to appear and solve her problem. But wouldn't you want a daughter of yours to show more spirit?"The story is long﹣lasting, whatever its shortcomings, and it does't take much to see its influence on a number of recent Hollywood productions. In these versions for the silver screen, the Cinderella character no longer has to clean the house and has no sisters to make her life terrible, though she keeps the way of not showing much courage. The character of the rich and handsome stranger, however,is kept, and in some cases really is a prince. The role of the fairy godmother is often played by luck; we live in a civilized age when even very young children might reject the idea of fairies. In the majority of film versions, the heroine has a profession and is even permitted to continue working after marrying her prince﹣this is the twenty first century, after all.Doesn't the success of these films indicate that the story has relevance to children even today?"Yes,admits Ellen, who sees its message as being rooted in a fundamental childhood desire for love and attention."Most children experience a sense of inner loneliness as they are growing up and empathize with (与…共鸣)the character who faces some sort of challenge. This can be seen in the original story of Cinderella, where the fairy godmother tells the heroine that she must learn to be gracious and confident if she is to go to the ball. She has to grow spiritually, and by maturing, she becomes attractive tothe prince, thus ensuring that the ending of the story will be happy.""In the later versions, thus element (因素)is missing,"says Ellen,"and the theme of the story is simply that a girl's role in life is to be more beautiful than other girls so that she can carry off the prize:the handsome prince. Is this really what we want girls to grow up believing?"43.Why does Ellen disapprove of the Cinderella story?A.The plot is too simple.B.The description is not vivid.C.The heroine is not brave enough.D.The story is unfit for the children today.44.In the film versions of the Cinderella story,.A.luck plays an important role in the heroine's happy lifeB.Cinderella's family background remains unchangedC.the heroine becomes a successful career womanD.the character of the prerace is removed.45.According to Even, the film versions of the storyA.succeed because of the happy endingB.ignore the children's psychological need'C.deliver a mistaken message that beauty is Cinderella story.C.To explain the changes of the Cinderella story over time.D.To present a different understanding of the Cinderella story.47.School Counseling(咨询)In our grandparents'time,it was unthinkable. In our parents'time,it was unusual and nobody spoke openly about counseling. These days, more and more schools are asking for this service and it is considered a necessity for most. Why is it?What has changed in the last fifty years to have made counseling at schools so important?"One reason is that we expect schools to do more to protect their pupils than we did in the past,"says school counselor,Mike Hudson."Also, our society doesn't work as well as it should. Many parents areeither under pressure of work or face the economic problems of unemployment, while children are under more and more pressure to do well at school. Many pupils feel they are pushed to their limits by their parents and teachers."Most school children face some kind of relationship problem at some stage with family members, teachers or other pupils,so.it helps to have somebody to talk to.From the pupil's point of view,it is easier to talk to a counselor in confidence rather than a family member or teacher. This solution is less embarrassing to pupils, who are not forced to face the person that they had problems with in the first place. They can calmly talk things through without arguments.School counselors advise not only students but also their teachers and parents, and offer other services as well, such as deciding learning disabilities or assisting parents and guardians to make the correct Pretend,假装.故选D.19.A 【解答】根据主句是我躲到一旁("I stayed off to the side"),现代分词表示原因,即因为我不知道该在哪,该做什么("Not knowing where to be or what to do").故选A.20.D 【解答】根据上文,这种尴尬终于随着我朋友凯利的到来而结束了,作者此时的感觉应该是尴尬,故选D.21.C 【解答】根据让步从句,我们是闺蜜,就是放学后一起骑车,偷偷去距离几条街远的肯德基的那种,即使我们不被允许离开本街道.即使不被允许("even though we weren't allowed to…"),名词种类("the kind")的同位语从句应该是就是…偷偷去距离几条街远的肯德基的那种("who…,went secretly to a KFC a few blocks away"),故选C.22.B 【解答】根据下文他们经常走很远去商店买巧克力("even though we weren't allowed to…"),本句应该是巧克力是作者最喜欢的东西之一("Kelly knew that was one of my favorites").故选B.23.D【解答】根据下文,我们经常走很远去商店买巧克力.故选D.24.C 【解答】根据上文作者的祖母离世,再根据独立主格结构with的复合结构(with+主语+doing)表示原因,本句主句应是作者的痛苦经历变得好承受了("A painful experience had suddenly become easier to bear"). 因此此处应该是可能使我微笑,故选C.29.B 【解答】根据介词和宾语巧克力豆("M&M's")的关系是带着巧克力豆,故选B.30.A 【解答】根据句意,此处名词巧克力豆("M&M's")的同位语成分应是巧克力豆是一种小件让人欢乐的礼物("M&M's,a small offering of cheer").故选A.31.D 【解答】根据句意,我们开过玩笑说到老的时候,先离世的那个会有一个疯狂的老妇人把M&M巧克力豆扔进她的坟墓里.此处是开玩笑时说的,故选D.32.B 【解答】根据上文,这里应该是总结性的,M&M巧克力会永远对作者有意义("M&M's will always be significant to me.").故选B.33.D 【解答】根据句意,此处的主句应是它们会提醒我("They will remind me…"),故选D.34.C 【解答】根据宾语从句中包含让步状语从句(even when…即使在什么时候…),这里应该是表示比较,像死亡一样痛苦而强烈的东西("something as painful and powerful as death").故选C.35.B 【解答】根据全文,M&M巧克力对作者的心灵是一种慰藉,此处是融化在心中("melt in your heart"),故选B.三、阅读理解(共4小题)阅读下面短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项.36.A 【解答】细节理解题,根据To celebrate a birthday, there is no better place than the Sunshine Sports
