Then his moment arrived on February 4, , on which his excellent performance made him famous overnight. After that, he led the Knicks to their fifth straight victory.

“Confidence” is probably one of the most noticeable traits in the Americans. They show confidence in the way they talk, the way they smile, the way they dress and the way they walk. Living and competing with all these confident American students, I find it extremely important to be confident as an international student and instructor. As a student,
being confident means you should never hesitate to raise your hand whenever a question or a point comes to your mind. Don’t mind if it sounds simple or silly. Ot herwise you will never get a chance to speak in class at all. What’s worse, the professors may think you are not prepared for the discussion or you do not have your own opinion on the issue—this is the last comment any graduate would like to receive.
Being confident for me as a foreign instructor means calmly asking the student to repeat what he or she has said if I did not get it. Pretending to understand what you actually did not may just bring yourself embarrassment or even disgrace. But the time I most need to be confident is when my students come to my office and bargain about the grades I have given for their speeches. (The course I’m teaching here is public speaking. )Modesty is a trait highly valued in China, but it won’t be of much help here if you want to survive and succeed in a good American graduate program.
60. To compete with American students it’s very important to.
A. be quite confident
B. be polite and friendly
C. have more discussions with them
D. understand what they think about

A. we should also remain modest in America
B. modesty doesn’t help in America
C. Americans also like modest people
D. modesty can help you through an American graduate program
63. The passage is mainly developed by.
A. providing examples
B. making comparisons
C. giving different figures
D. telling personal experiences

The normal links that you’d see to each section of an article are no longer on the main screen. Instead, there’s a small icon located at the bottom of the App, which can be used to access all the sections of an article. You can also open the links in Safari(苹果浏览器). According to the developers’ site, loading Wikipedia pages with Wikipanion is a lot faster than accessing the Wikipedia site from the iPhone’s browsers. To be honest, we agree.

Ireland has had a very difficult history. The problems started in the 16th century when English rulers tried to conquer Ireland. For hundreds of years, the Irish people fought against the English. Finally, in 1921, the British government was forced to give independence to the south of Ireland. The result is that today there are two “Irelands”. Northern Ireland, in the north, is part of the United
Kingdom. The Republic of Ireland, in the south, is an independent country.
In the 1840s the main crop, potatoes, was affected by disease and about 750, 000 people died of hunger. This, and a shortage of work, forced many people to leave Ireland and live in the USA, the UK, Australia and Canada. As a result of these problems, the population fell from 8. 2 million in 1841 to 6. 6 million in 1851.
For many years, the majority of Irish people earned their living as farmers. Today, many people still work on the land but more and more people are moving to the cities to work in factories and offices. Life in the cities is very different from life in the countryside, where things move at a quieter and slower pace.
The Irish are famous for being warm-hearted and friendly. Oscar Wilde, a famous Irish writer, once said that the Irish were “the greatest talkers since the Greeks”. Since independence, Ireland has revived(复兴)its own culture of music, language, literature and singing. Different areas have different styles of old Irish songs which are sung without instruments. Other kinds of Irish music use many different instruments such as the violin, whistles, etc.

A. food shortages in the 1840s led to a decline in population
B. people are moving to the cities for lack of work in the countryside
C. it is harder to make a living as a farmer than as a factory worker
D. different kinds of old Irish songs are all sung with instruments
70. The last paragraph is mainly about.
A. the Irish character
B. Irish culture
C. Irish musical instruments
D. a famous Irish writer
71. What can be the best title for the text?
A. Life in Ireland
B. A Very Difficult History
C. Ireland, Past and Present
D. The Independence of Ireland

“Big dogs apparently die younger than smaller ones mainly because they age quickly”, researchers say.
Normally, larger mammals live longer than smaller ones; for instance, elephants can get up to 70 years old in the wild, while house mice reach only 4 years. But the opposite seems true when you compare animals wi- thin one species – in mice, horses and perhaps even humans.
We can especially see how much it hurts to have a bigger body with dogs, a species that comes in various shapes and sizes. The heaviest known dog may have been Zorba, an English breed that weighed 155 kilograms, while the smallest dog alive may be Meyzi which is less than 110 grams.
Large breeds often die young compared with smaller ones, with a 70- kilogram Great Dane having an average life span (寿命) of about 7 years, while a 4-kilogram toy poodle can expect to live up to 14 years.
To figure out the possible tradeoffs of large size, researchers figured out at what age dogs from 74 breeds died, using data from more than 56,000 dogs that visited veterinary (兽医) teaching hospitals. The researchers focused on why large dogs lived shorter lives on average.
The scientists found that large breeds apparently aged more quickly; the speed at which the risk of death increased with age was greater with larger bree ds than smaller ones. Indeed, among dog breeds, an increase of 2 kilograms in body mass leads to a loss of approximately 1 month of life expectancy. “Their lives seem to end in fast motion,” said researcher Cornelia Kraus, a biologist at the University of Göttingen in Germany.
The investigators now want to look at the growth and health histories of a large number of dogs and figure out the leading causes of death for large dogs. For instance, bigger canines apparently suffer from cancer more often, which could make sense; large dogs
grow more than smaller breeds do, and cancer is rooted in abnormal cell growth.
These new findings might be able to help unravel (解密) the bio- logical links between growth and death, the scientist s added.
72. Which of the following is TRUE according to the article?
A. Smaller dogs usually age at faster rates than big dogs.
B. Dogs’ sizes don’t vary much compared to different species.
C. The life spans of dogs differ a lot based on their body sizes.
D. The biggest dog is about 100 times heavier than the smallest dog.
73. If a 70-kilogram Great Dane has an average life span of about 7 years, how
long will an 80-kilogram dog be expected to live according to Paragraph 6?
A. 7 years and 5 months.
B. 6 years and 7 month s.
C. 7 years and 10 months.
D. 6 years and 2 months.
74. The underlined word “tradeoffs” in Paragraph 5 is closest in meaning to ______.
A. disadvantages
B. Exchanges
C. chances
D. improvements
75. According to the last three paragraphs, the scientists are planning to _____.
A. find out what larger dogs do to stay healthy
B. find out ways to extend the life spans of dogs
C. find out why cancer attacks bigger dogs more often
D. find out the most common causes of death for larger dogs
